Captain Lou Albano (1933-2009) memorial wrestling topic

Dlo is the shit. He's a really nice guy too. I got his autograph at a show a few years ago.
Their blurb points out not that it's a "big reveal,"
The article claims differently, but alrighty.
It was WWE when D'lo came back and nothing happened.
Hey! Come on! Dude did a different thing with his arms rather than the head-bobble thing. That counts for something!

Also, head-bobble thing 4-life.

Yeah, I saw King/Cole and I remembered that The Grish is on his honeymoon, or something like that.

Man, SD tonight was abysmal. I missed most of that tag match in the beginning, but it looked pretty good. Surprisingly, I thought the RayTista tag match wasn't all that bad, either.
Nostalgia for the fail.
Yeah, we know, we know, if it isn't a hip Indy fed you're not interested in it and you don't like it. Good luck with that.
I'd sell my soul to fuck Beth Phoenix.
If it hurts any more, I'll point out that she was stunningly more attractive in person at the OVW shows I used to go to compared to how she looks on the television screen.

I liked how back then they made her more sexy than she is nowadays.

Inconceivable!

Name me one good Dlo Brown match of the last 10 years.

No, no, no, you do it like this...
You're joking, right? He's Nigel McGuiness.
To be fair, it took me a second to figure out it was him with his new look.

Wait, that Wolf name is real? What the hell, TNA stumbles on an absolute darling of the indy scene and they change his name? fucking retarded. I'm glad I didn't watch TNA this week.

The name changes are standard protocol with new talent. I read that Nigel came up with the name, anyway. I prefer his old name, but this one's not so bad. And what you missed was Nigel debuting extremely strong by kicking the ass of Kurt Angle.
You're joking, right? He's Nigel McGuiness.
o the famous nigel... he does look diff but still.. i prob wouldnt have guessed it was him anyways... desmond wolfe?
You're joking, right? He's Nigel McGuiness.
And he's in it to win it.

New look? He's had the shaved head for months.

Nigel has had his head shaved ever since Wrestlemania weekend when he lost the ROH belt to Jerry Lynn. That said I wasn't too particularly impressed by his beatdown of Angle. It seemed to lack the intensity that I was hoping for. I actually really prefer the smarmy Nigel versus this GRRRR one.

Hunter Hearst Helmsley is a ridiculous name for anybody.

It isn't about Desmond Wolfe being a more or less ridiculous name, it's about building a legacy and an identity. Nigel McGuinness' legacy and identity is being at least temporarily derailed by people adjusting to his new name.

He has a pretty long and storied history in indy wrestling, it just seems superfluous to switch the name outside of a potential WWE lawsuit (which I don't think is the case here).

WWE usually swings by Nashville or Memphis once every 5 or 6 months.. they came in February, and there's currently no date scheduled through January 2010. Lame.

TNA wanted to copywrite his name and Nigel refused to sign over the rights. Hence the name change. They own the new name and Steven Haworth gets to keep Nigel McGuinness.
What is this from? Mad tv?
That's a CBS logo in the corner so I guess it is from one of their late night shows.
raven_punk can't cut heel promos.

Let's not fool ourselves: "McGuinness" is a ridiculous name for a man who's supposed to be a Briton. Always has been.

At the very end it cut to someone sitting at a desk. I can't make out who, but it was definitely from one of the late night talk shows.

There ain't no legacy in indy wrestling outside of some thousands of people nationwide (maybe tens of thousands). But when TNA/ECW/Superstars, the wrestling shows nobody watches have around 1 million viewers each week, and three times that many for Raw, you're talking about a fraction of a smidgen of an iota of the total wrestling viewing population who would say "oh, that's Nigel McGuinness, duh."

Here, let me offer you another, far shorter, counterpoint: Evan Bourne.

That would be Craig Kilborn who use to be host of the Late Late Show on CBS which is now hosted by Craig Ferguson.

.....wasn't cena's indy name The Prototype or something???

Sometimes, a fresh gimmick name is all you need

That was his name in OVW.

hopefully this sopcast channel will be up shortly, this is the one that has been showing the wrestling PPVs lately. I'll check around for some more.

I def know who always to come to for streams of WWE & UFC on sopcast ;)

Having never seen a Nigel McGuinness match (I don't get HDNet and haven't gotten around to watching RoH on youtube) I was pretty impressed with his debut. I just hope TNA doesn't burn people out on him by pushing him to the main event right away.
