God of war clones don't exist. God of War is a devil may cry clone without cool guns.
I am gonna wait for Metal Gear Rising and the Last Guardian and just play out rdr and turismo while i wait.
if it doesn't have the guns, then that's not really a clone.
I DON'T CARE what the reviews are, the game is coming out tomorrow and K-mart is going to give $20 gaming coupon for it. I'll be using the DR2 $20 on it, release day it is!
Sigh, mine has been stuck at shipping soon all damn day. Figures any other release I don't care as much about would already be in transit. :\
Did you do the 99 cent release date delivery? It seems like all of these collector's editions are getting that offer (maybe even some things that aren't collector's editions). That's a pretty good deal though.
I have Prime and didn't get the CE. $20 for an art book and CD is waaaaaaaaaay overpriced. I'll just wait for them to be $20 instead.
Yeah, but you get $20 VG credit, so it's kind of a wash. But I agree, it is overpriced. I wouldn't have gotten it at all if I had to pay for it.
I've played through the demo a couple of more times now (once on Warrior, and once on Knight) and I think I'm going to go for the higher of the 3 difficulties on this game. Warrior seems a bit too easy, and I can only imagine that Esquire basically gives you the Congratulations screen from the start.
The game has BB exclusive marking on it (not just a sticker, it's printed on the cover art).
Following up on this, the BB exclusive has stickers ONLY. There's one tiny one on the front to indicate the pack-in and there's a barcode sticker over the UPC on the back. Otherwise it's no different than any other retailer. Good thing my Amazon order still hasn't shipped otherwise I'd have to return my Best Buy copy.
I played the demo last night and thought it was very well done. I can see how much time and effort was put into the game and it made it a day 1 purchase for me. The story, setting, and voice acting really convinced me.
Got the LE copy today, and yeah, I feel gypped. The "art book" is all once piece with the game and CD case, and it's super duper thin. I got home and saw a tiny bubble envelope and couldn't believe that's all it was. The GOW III CE box was humongous and the art book is very nice compared to this (and it's actually a book that's separate from the game).
All the photos of this thing online show a book that looks like 1/2" to 1" thick--not so, it's like 3/8 to 1/4 of an inch thick, and the rest of the space is taken up by the game and the CD packaging.

Yeah it is pretty crappy to make a "book" part of the actual BluRay case. Weird design choice for sure.

Yeah, and now I'll have some odd book thing next to my other games LOL
The cover is pretty cool though. It shows what's-his-name Belmont and it's got that embossing on the color image. The quality of the pages and packaging is pretty good. All glossy with a really thick clear coat so it won't get fingerprints. Anyway, compared to the huge Pandora's Box and the cool art book, this is totally not worth the extra $20.
Another random thought just occurred while playing this. I think I might've figured out a big secret. If that's the truth, I call bullshit on this game.
maybe a little off topic but did anyone else not receive their amazon promo credit, i contacted amazon and they said they didnt know of any promotion with this game

Forward them your original order confirmation. It should mention that you qualify for the $20 credit.
I'm playing on EASY (squire), it's not like GoW at all... I had fun playing it, it's pretty good. I doubt I can platinum this one, I can't imagine how difficult is PALADIN mode is

Did you plat GoW3? So you think Castlevania hard mode (or very hard) will be harder than GoW? I have yet to go back to GoW3 to try the TITAN mode and clean up the rest of the trophies, so I was curious.

I plat GoW I, II and III... C:LoS doesn't play like GoW at all. The range attacks are strange, it's new to me. I don't like L2 and evade, not natural (

i platted gow3 and playing on hard right now. only on chapter 2, but it isnt that hard. i figure itll get easier as you go when you power up more and get more moves. when you play the hardest difficulty, youll have maxed everything out, so it really shouldnt be that hard. platting it will def take a good 50+ hours though. doing the trials on hard or really hard just doesnt seem fun.
The demo didn't do much for me. Felt too similar to other hack n slash games. I'll probably still get it down the line since I'm sure the full game has more variety.
Just a heads up, but the free SOTN included in the BB copy forces you to register on the Konami site to redeem an annoyingly long code. Not a huge deal, but I don't like it when they pull that kind of crap on you.
maybe a little off topic but did anyone else not receive their amazon promo credit, i contacted amazon and they said they didnt know of any promotion with this game
You only see it when you create a new order for a video game or related merchandise. It will prompt you to redeem it with a button or checkbox. Also, check your shipping notification, mine had the following:
Congratulations. Your purchase has qualified you for a $20 Video Games promotion code. The promotion code will be applied directly to your Amazon.com account up to two (2) business days after your product ships.
You didn't get a shipping notification? Check the text of it, and see if it's in there. Also, maybe you have a different e-mail address in your Amazon account?
I'm playing it and I'm frustrated w/the controls. I'm so angry that they won't let you map the actions to the buttons you want. The game would be so much better if they stuck to the tried and true God of War controls instead of f-ing with them.
I think the part that's throwing me off the most is the shitty choice of block button, L2. L1 is so much easier to use for blocking. Also, they don't use the right analog at all, which is perfect for the roll away. At least if they weren't going to use the right analog for anything, they should have allowed you to use it to move the f-ing camera around. Also, the quicktime event where you have to wait for the circles to line up is throwing me off, but I think I might actually like that better than having to hit the right button at the right time (a la God of War).
/rant
Other than those issues, I'm finding the game pretty good. I just beat the 1st (mini?) boss in the swamp area. I hope I can get used to the controls so I can actually enjoy the game.
I can see why they made L2 block though, since they were using L1/R1. It was weird at first, but I got used to it. the circle thing was annoying at first, until I realized you don't have to line them up, just as long as you hit a button while the circle is in the other circle you're good.
I'm glad they didn't use the right stick for roll though, I never liked that in GoW since you'd have to move your thumb to dodge, then back to attack. Just never felt right to me.
Anyone run into this 'unhandled error' that wipes your save? Apparently a few people on PS3 have had that happen. Fingers crossed. . .
Oh lord that would suck. Do you have any info on it? Like a link or something?
Okay, wow...the platforming segments in this game are HORRENDOUS.
Yeah, the part that makes me the most mad is when you get to the edge, you can't just jump. It pauses you. If you take a running start, you get to the edge and press the button, and nothing. It cancels your button press and you fall down.
I wish they would have gotten a better developer to do this game; one that can make really tight controls. If it weren't for the controls, this game would be a 9 or a 9.5/10.
Well anyway, I'm getting used to the controls, and I'm liking the game a lot. The story is good, and it's got a lot of different game mechanics. It's just a damned shame they couldn't let you modify the controls to suit your style.
BTW, I really like the graphics. A lot of the textures are really sharp.

That must have happened to me, because when I tried to load my game this morning the save was just gone. Right back to 0%.
I'm having the weirdest flashbacks to Wolverine playing this, specifically the exceedingly linear paths and glowing guys hanging around waiting to be discovered. That's OK, because I thought Wolverine was a ton of fun. Just weird.
So I just beat it on Knight Difficulty. My thoughts on the ending right now:
Complete and utter BULLSHIT. He defeats Satan for crying out loud. No Death, no Dracula, just Satan. COME ON! This is a Castlevania IN NAME ONLY. Okay, yeah, setting up Gabriel as Dracula is okay, but it's been talked about before. But turning him emo in a MODERN SETTING to fight Satan again? WHAT KIND OF SHIT IS THIS!? Just wow, man. that.
But yeah, I refuse to call this game "Castlevania" because it certainly is not. There are some pretty BIG flaws in this game, too. Let me think about this so I can score it.
Wow, from reading around here, and other posts on the web, this sounds like a glitchy mess. I was willing to give it a try, but not after reading your posts. I'll hold off, and see what's the best price in the next few months.
It's a pretty lengthy game (15+ hours), and as far as "glitchy" goes, it mainly stems from the framerate and platforming problems. But the graphics, gameplay, soundtrack and story are all pretty good.

I know they explained that this game is a "reboot," but the ending felt like they were setting up an alternate version of the Demon Castle War.
