So, the next question becomes, what's the point of the Gamer Club Coupons if all the games are usually on sale and thus the coupons are meaningless?
 
I don't understand what is the deal with all the crying about the Transformers coupon not working. The coupon clearly says "Markdown taken from regular prices. Not valid on sales prices..."

After the Blades fiasco, Best Buy knows better. I will save my dignity and not even try.

Tried Transformers, Lets Tap, and Madworld, and as said, no go with the coupons. Still got Transformers as a gift for friend, and one for myself, so it works out ok.

But yeah, Coupon doesn't work with "sale" priced games.

We had access to these prices for a longer time, than the non-reward zone people. I guess that's the bonus. It's like Reward zone members get a first-pick at future sales, I suppose.

Still wish I got a free Fairytale Fights XD I actually wanted to play the blasted thing, demo seemed like a perfectly fun slash-em-up, and unlike most next gen games, it has COLOR! (you wa SHOCK!)
 
I'm pretty sure it's against the law to NOT accept those coupons. You can't bait people with coupons and then tell them they can't have the game because it's on sale. Thats total BS especially if it's a corporate wide sale. I'd contact the BBB on that one.

That's a good way to look at it. We still had an advantage from CAG.

No go in Houston area stores. Tried Copperfield and Spring-Cypress locations with no luck. Still, I picked up Motorstorm for $19.99 for my son and he loves it.

I would agree with you on this, its the old bait and switch. I understand legally it says not valid on sale prices but thats part of the "scam". You see the sale price and the coupon. The average joe will just think the coupon works like any coupon, taking a price off the top.
Having said that dont they get reimbursed for the coupons like most companies do? Also whats the point of having the coupons when they are reducing the prices the next week in the weekly ads to match?

not even trying this time but as I recall my ftf did have astericks on the checkout screen as well.

I had a cashier (she was cute) to multiple times and then she called the manager but the other cashier told her why it didn't work. She was like "then why offer this coupon if it's still valid until the 1/3/10.
 
Struck out this morning at my local BB. I tried Transformers on a separate transaction and no dice. I tried Mad World and Let's Tap on a separate transaction and no dice. I got free copies of Fairlytale Fights last week, but I guess the free game party is now over.

I dont understand the nonsense of them changing there computers too. I'm hoping if any thing like this has the chance of occuring again that the system will take it. We've had "You're In the Movies" come up free earlier this year, as well as X-Blades months after that, and now recently "Fairytale Fights". Yet now Best Buy pulls the plug.

Perhaps its because they realized there was more than 1 game that had the chance to be free. The other times it was only 1 game wasn't it? I don;t recall any other games for free during the times of "You're In The Movies" and "XBlades" being free.

Went to Best Buy at opening and had the wife drop me and my son off at the loading curb and told her to stay there with the car running.

I printed out a fat stack of coupons from their RZ computer terminal.

I grabbed 3 of each of the three games, then had my 5 year old grab three of each and gave him an extra RZ card.

We each stood in line separately and were helped by different cashiers. Coupon was denied so I started to throw a bitch fit about this was a bait and switch and why would their company be so stupid as to offer these coupons primarily good during the same time they had a sale on these items too. I screamed some more about how I'm going to have my lawyer in court at 8 AM tomorrow to file papers against Best Buy for fraud and finally the manager came over.

Meanwhile my son was being denied the same free games so I turned and went over to his cashier and asked what the problem was. The cashier tried to explain the same bullshit my cashier did so I cussed him out too and asked him why the fuck he wouldn't honor the coupons so this little kid could have his free video games. The manager followed me over so I got up in his face and asked him what he was going to do about it.

The manager turned and said he's let the LAPD figure that out, at which point I motioned to my son who grabbed his stack of games and clutched them to his chest and started crying. I asked the manager if he was really going to call the cops on a 5 year old boy who wanted free video games but was denied because of a bait and switch. The manager said no, he was calling the cops on me for being out of control.

At that point I grabbed my son, who was still clutching the games, and ran out of the store to the wife who had the car running in the loading zone.

She sped off and I told her to get across the street to the Walmart parking lot where there was also a GameStop. Me and my son smashed the plastic security devices in the parking lot to free our free games and ripped off the plastic so they looked "used."

The snot nosed teenager in GameStop told us it wasn't really the policy of the store to accept more than 1 of the same game per console, but I told him that BestBuy had these games really cheap this week. He grabbed the local newspaper and looked at the Best Buy ad to see how cheap the games were, then said screw it and accepted our pile of trade ins w/ a local bonus trade in credit.

I walked out of there with over $75 in credit, which I then used with some other GS credit I had to buy a PS3. I saw the cops had arrived across the street at Best Buy so I took the plates off my wife's car and we drove home where I'm now enjoying Blurays on my PS3.

All in all a great day!

Sucks that BB's caught on to the free games coupon. I really would have liked to have gotten Transformers and Let's Tap for free. (or $5 at the very least)

On a serious note, thanks to all on the east coast for the early reports-- it was nice to not have to race off to BB just to get into an awkward cashier moment. And I guess my inconvenient trip out to BB last week to get Let's Tap for $10 wasn't entirely in vain.

It worked last week with Fairytale Fights,
but they must have fixed the system.

I did get the Office season 5 for $16, though....
 
Well, it seems that there will be no free games today unless someone has a very lucky YMMV cashier that overrides. With that being said, I still bought both Madworld and Let's Tap at $10. This is still an awesome sale on two great games. Hopefully, disappointment about the coupons does not stop people from enjoying the deal as it is.

coupon didn't go through so cashier (hot blond girl) went asked customer center people
other girl came and put some words in to cashier TADA worked and got 3 copies for free

everyone told me it was failure so I had only one coupon
went home printed one more

This time cute black cashier

" So you are telling me you want to use $20 off coupon on 19.99 game.. ? "

" Ya "

" .... "

" Wait here "

5 min later

" No, This game's original price is 39.99 and this coupon does not apply to sales prices "


... so 2nd was failure
at least I have 3 copies ...
 
I'm guessing the widespread abuse of FTF screwed everyone over. Really, 14 copies of the same game? Greedy much?

I actually wanted to get a copy of FTF but wasn't able to go out that day. I would have stopped at one copy, same as I would have stopped at one copy of Transformers and Mad World.

Oh well. I understand why Best Buy wouldn't do this. And for once I'm no their side. There have been too many borderline-evil CAGs posting their abuse of Best Buy for one quarter.
 
Went to check for Transformers and Terminator. Transformers was like it didn't even exist, had no spot. Terminator was sold out :(. guess I can prolly find it around $10 somewhere else I suppose.

Had like 50 million Wolfenstein's where Terminator and Transformers was supposed to be.

Why is everyone so mad at each other around here? Some people abused the system? Wait a minute, because you think you "bought" only one
game for free your a nice guy and everyone who "bought" multiple copies are the d bags? Sounds kind of hypocritical to me.

EVERYONE who bought these games for free are partly responsible. We all gained something for nothing here. Just because some abused the system more than others does not make anyone more responsible than anyone else.

If you guys wanted to keep all these deals secret (are they deals or are they abuses of the system? same thing? hmm...), why did you go and post them on the internet. Some people are just kidding themselves...

Anyway, I am not too worried about it. I was able to get my copy of FTF last week and already have TF so I wasn't too pressed.

ok, just went to another best buy (yes, got denied for Transformers 2 again, oh well) but I wanted to share that I was doing a lot of price matching, so I had Target and GS ads on me to get DVD TV seasons. I notice Avatar is $39 at Target and figured I might as well get it at that price and remembered there was a $5 off RZ coupon. Went to the kiosk, printed coupon. PM'd at CS counter, guy scans the game and it comes up $39.99. I thought that was strange b/c shelf tags said $59.99, even the sticker on the game. So he went with it, and I think he even changed it to $39 even. Now, I failed to note an asterisk (I am going to say there wasn't one b/c I did get a quick glance leaning my fat ass over the counter) but the coupon worked.

I didn't really even want that game, haven't seen the movie yet, but I wanted to test the RZ system. So, if Avatar a) was on sale, b) did or did not have an asterisk, c) had a RZ coupon for $5 off d) was even PM'd over-rode; then it all worked to $34.99, then that definitely sheds new light on Operation Get Free Games..
 
I am going to try Bestbuy everyday from now, to get free Transformers..
I know it works for sure, problem is which cashier is stupid enough to / nice enough to let me have it my way
