Demon's Souls - Atlus & From Software's Action RPG - October 6

Just be wary, Black Skeleton is very difficult. I hit it once, ran all the way to the beginning of the level and fought it there. It took like 6-8 soul arrows to kill it. And, it can probably nearly kill you one hit, shield or no shield.
You find a crescent falchion +1 in 4-1 relatively close to the beginning behind the black dual-welding katana skeleton.
If you are going as magic as it seems, you may be interested in the
Kris Blade that is in 2-2. It increases magical damage. Have to have it in one hand and catalyst in the other. You may die a few times as it is in a hard spot on the right "drop down" path of 2-2.
I don't think I'm confident enough to not have a shield equipped.
You shouldn't worry about that. ;)
As long as your dodge rolls are quick (Unlike priest)
I don't think I'm confident enough to not have a shield equipped.
Have shield and blade in left slot... witch to blade to fire off shots from a distance. If anything gets close, click on the shield. What I do for crescent weapon, have it in left with catalyst in right to regen my MP. If something is close, I switch to shield.

If something REALLY needs to be dealt with i use the dragon long sword +5... it is a beast (so long as enemy is not fire resistant).

How far have you gotten to get all these things? Did you upgrade them yourself?
are the worlds pretty big and good for exploring or is the game linear?
They're pretty large, and not completely linear. As you go through the levels, you unlock places you were able to go previously, and there are places that only unlock when you get your alignment to a certain side.

Me?

There is a
+2 dragon long sword and a +2 dark heater shield in 2-2. I upgraded the sword from 2 to 5 myself as the dragonstone needed to upgrade a dragon weapon is in 2-2 (and pretty much only in 2-2). The heater shield is a great help as well. The Kris Blade is also in 2-2. I have a crescent weapon (the one you mentioned) from when I beat 4-1. Biggest thing for the 2-2 items is some of them require a little leap pf faith. You might see something way down a mountainside... make sure you don't have a bunch of souls (or can get back to them) and give yourself a slide down the mountain.
It is scary for sure.

So far I am through 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, all of 2, and 4-1.

How is the boss of 2-2? I'm not sure where I want to beat next because I'm mostly afraid of the bosses. I could've gone to the boss of 3-1 after saving Freke, but I had like 10K souls that I didn't want to lose, so I left.
I really want to try to farm 50K souls to get the ring of avarice in 3-1 (I also wish I made a female character so I could equip the silver bracelet).

2-2 is not too bad for you... make sure you are quick... and just peg away with soul arrow. Here is a big tip...
run straight towards the fog (boss 2-3 is RIGHT after boss 2-2) and run up the stairs. There is some debris. Stand behind it and peg away. Chances are he won't get up to you. If he does... RUN... and then run back up there. Always be ready with shield and herbs though, if he hits you it is massive damage.

Also, after 2-2 souls start becoming in easy supply. Easier. 10,000 is nothing. I lost (for good) 9,000 last night. I am soul level 54. Doing some farming helps build that up too. Then beating big bosses or the enemies around them... start raking in large amounts. Plus, don't be afriad to cash in you random souls you collect for big soul bonus (not demon's souls of crouse, never use those for cash).

Hmm nice.

I'm starting to hope for DLC contents on Demons Souls, but not anytime soon of course, A dungeon randomizer would be a nice + (optional dungeon)

I hope they release the 6th Archstone as DLC. LAND OF GIANTS or whatever... yes please.

For grinding/farming... big bearbugs in 2-2 pose almost no real threat and are worth about 1600 souls each. They just take a while to kill. Most stuff in 2-2 is weak to magic or posses no huge threat (as long as you do it right). Great place to farm. There are some
black phantoms, but you only have to beat those guys one time.

I just picked this game up and am looking forward to playing it later. I'm reading the manual and flipped to the back to see what kind of person I want to play as. They do not give much detail. What do you guys suggest...I want someone who can do at least some magic, but is pretty tough at up close fighting.

Well, in the end, the class you chose doesn't really matter as anyone can use any weapon/armor/magic as long as you have the stat requirements for it. So, you should probably just start out as the royal to get the MP regen ring from the beginning.

Yea, I noticed soul collecting becomes a lot easier. The skeletons in 4-1 aren't that hard to kill and they give you 200+ souls.

Although I was a little miffed when I lost my 10,000+ souls yesterday :[

The best place for farming I think is 1-4 after you've beaten penatrator just go to that archstone and back track the stairs theres three red eye knights with ring of avarice you get around 10k each time you kill them jump back to nexus and repeat as much as you want (well Im getting 10k in pure black its like 7500 otherwise I think). If you have Makoto it works well double handed vs. the red knights if you dont have good magic, just be sure to equip the ring of regeneration as Makoto is cursed with bleed.

^ That is a good spot for sure. Knights are dangerous to some folks, so just use your judgement. I need to get me one of them rings of avarice!

ChibiJosh... spoiler..
I see in the guide that a corpse in 3-2 has the ring of avarice on it... prolly better than wasting 50000 on it.

My copy finally came. So far it's great, and the royal is awesome, although I have now died twice to the same guy (I'm sure you all know) My turpentine seems to be gone so the second time I tried using all my firebombs so I'm out of them now too.... (I assume I'll find more going through it all again though).

Man, I so want to play this game! BTW, I saw a guy buying PS3 just for this game today(had the game in hand as well) @ Best Buy. I never thought it could be a game that would sell systems.

I hope he doesn't return the systeem because the game was too hard. :booty:

After I ran out of firebombs, they've never popped up as 'loot' that dead enemies are dropping now and I've had the same happen with the turpentine. Although, I've heard from some that you can spam the Soul Arrow to kill the first boss. I know it works on its mini versions.:D

Actually I realized that guy wasn't the boss, but merely some really strong knight that I guess I should return to. The first boss took 3 tries, but wasn't that hard, just had to get patient. Of course trying to go to 1-2 I died
thanks to the dragon
, so I have yet another level in soul form I guess.

I bought a crossbow from the vendor in 1-1 but I don't know that I want to spend 30 souls for each bolt so I haven't used it yet (I doubt it will do more damage than soul arrow). How do most people do range weapons and is it worth the cost?

You can find a compound short bow in the second tower past the dragon (run through the first part, then go underground to get to the second one). Then you buy 100+ arrows and then sit in that first tower and keep shooting him. It takes a while and it's hard to tell if you are hitting him (the health bar will pop up for a second but it is hard to see as he's moving so fast). Fortunately he's so big he's pretty easy to hit. And arrows only cost 20 each. It does take a chunk of change to get enough though. I went back and killed the red-eye knight in 1-1 again just to buy arrows with the souls.

I just got wrocked by the tower knight. had him down to less than 1/4, but by then I was out of Herbs. What are the recommendations for this? Should I go back to 1-1 and kill guys for herbs/souls? I am a hunter, but I never seem to have enough arrows.

I would. Lots of guys in 1-1 drop grasses all the time. This would be a good place to farm them, especially for a lower level character.

I was getting my ass handed to me, until I realized
that if you go up and kill all the archers, you can stand where they were and take pot shots with a ranged weapon, or in my case soul arrow. Time it so just as he moves his shield aside you hit R1, and as soon as you launch your attack step back. He'll launch his, but it will hit the wall and you'll score your attack. Maybe mine glitched, but I was 100% safe just standing there waiting. His blue glowing javalen looking attack just hit the wall, and I was safe. For me it was just a battle of attrition and waiting for my friggin MP to regen :D

Anyone else almost getting a castlevania vibe from this? Especially during some of the boss battles. Throw in a little more exploration and some platforming, and this is what a 3d castlevania should be like imho.

Also, can anyone tell me if the artbook is inside the early preorder copies, or if it is handed out? I got impatient and picked the standard edition up at GS yesterday, and will return the game from inside my Amazon copy. But at BB today, I saw a standard edition that had a sticker saying free artbook and soundtrack. Please tell me I didn't screw myself over (I know, irony in screwing over GS...)

The artbook/CD was shrinkwrapped with the game I got from amazon.

Did anyone kill the dragon in 1-2 with magic? I can't seem to hit it.

GOD. This game is so much tougher then I thought it would be. This is the first game in 10-15 years that I actually RAGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEQUITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTt on.

Infact this is the first game that I actually started swearing at again. I remember doing that as a kid saying fuck YOU. THAT WAS CHEAP YOU fuckING GAME. And I notice I'm starting this habit up yet again. I'm like fuck YOU 2-2. fuck YOU fuck YOU fuck YOU YOU fuckING CHEATER. GET YOUR fuckING ASS UP YOU DAMN KNIGHT. RARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrr.

Though I have found out that RAGEQUIT on the game CAN be a good cheat. On the YOU DIED SCREEN if you exit right before it goes to the "loading" and starting you back at the beginning, you can start right off before the boss. Kind of like a continue. But no matter how many damn continues you get, the boss is still fuckING CHEAP. I HATE YOU. I HATE YOU SO MUCH DEMON'S SOULS. I KILL YOU.

Game is bringing back some HUGE RAGE. Infact I forgot that I had this much rage. Is it possible to have such animosity with a game?

Hahahaha, for real? For whatever reason I have found it challenging, but not ZOMG I'm pissed challenging. I got pissed at Batman AA challenge rooms way more than this game (thus far).

I don't even see this game as cheap. I get more pissed at Burnout Paradise when I am doing a run and a random car pulls out in front of me. I dunno, maybe just knowing it was tough before hand prepared me.

Having the Tower Knight sit on you with that big fucking shield and then dying at full health makes my anger level rise exponentially. After the 5th death..............

But I thought the people saying this was tough were just saying it. I thought I would breeze through it since I played an eternity of NES games and beaten many old 8-16 bit games. Now I'm paying the price for my folly.

I spent like 2 hours in 2-2 going down the "shortcut" and somehow ended up back at the fucking beginning of the level. Although, it was kind of a good thing because I couldn't carry anymore and still didn't find either of those weapons you were talking about, SaintNoir.

I just got finished with 3-3 and now I understand fully what happened to me earlier. This level has the most intense and insane boss battle, I don't wanna spoil it for anyone but this fight lasted almost half an hour.

I started out with the Hunter class, twice now, and then decided to restart again and go with the Royalty class after my experience with Level 2
/spoiler, those damn Bearbugs! I spent forever chipping away at them with my weapon only to have it break on me...I need magic...

Yeah dude... bearbugs suck big time.... take forever to wear down.

ChibiJosh... only the magic enhancing sword is on some plank or random ledge in that shortcut chasm. The other items are spread out in the level. Be careful, if you loot a corpse and can't carry the item, it's gone forever I think. One of the good items is way down a ledge in the part with Patches, I do remember that.

Possibly the worst advice I have ever been given. ;) I ran up the stairs, turned around, and dead.

 Oh my! Sorry! It worked for me. Swerve around him and out and then up the stairs... straight on is the boss. I don't know what to say... hope I didn't cost you too much.

Well, I'm already back to the boss for attempt 2, so we'll see.

EDIT 3rd time's a charm, right? At least I was able to get a few hits on him this time. That's something.

There are also some bones and things in the "arena," you can dance around those as he can't cross straight over. You could in theory circle around that and keep him on the other side while you soul arrow.

Wait til you get to NG+ with soul thirst, silver bracelets, avarice ring, and if you have capped spell slots soulsucker as well. That's how pro's farm.

So I beat the game this morning and immediately had some PvP when I started my NG+. My god is PvP awesome in this game. I could tell that the guys looking for a fight were shitting their pants once they saw how intimidating I look. I picked the right class and build, because nobody can touch me lol. My temple knight has 42 points pumped into faith and a Large Sword of Moonlight +5, which is unblockable damage. In fact, none of my three opponents today scratched me, but I 2-3 shot them once they made a mistake. I was really hoping to fight a mage today, because I wanted to test the magic block by switching to 2H. It's supposed to block 80% of dmg, but I suppose I could always switch to the dark silver shield and absorb 100% until I wear them out.

Leveling up is really starting to slow down though, so I may have to start farming at SL 100. I'm almost to NG+2 and I don't want to find myself slowed by enemies that are too tough because I fell behind in the curve. I'm loving this game so far, but I might take a break when Uncharted 2 comes out. Don't want to burn out after just a week heh.

Oh BTW, where's the key to open the door in 1-1 that leads to Old King Doran? He's the last boss trophy I need!

Screw 2-2. I beat 3-1 though.

That guy you save through out world 1 will give it to you after you save him in 1-4. Alternatively, he drops it when he dies.

Nice. I haven't even started the game and people who got the game a week ago beat it already, lol. Grats, Jodou.

The guide makes special mention that the gap between a regular game and your first + game is the largest. It says there is an increase after that, but it is not near as large or noticeable.
