Demon's Souls - Atlus & From Software's Action RPG - October 6

Knights are a good class. I think they get a miracle early on.
I think you're thinking of Temple Knights, they start out with heal.
Well, I was responding to a post where someone said they put down the blue stone to help with 3-1 and ended up being the boss fight in someone else's game. I checked it several times and they said 3-1 for sure. So I guess that was a typo.

Edit - Wait, in fact, that someone was you!
You can put your stone down in 3-1, but you'll be summoned to be the boss in 3-3.
I think you're thinking of Temple Knights, they start out with heal.
Oh yeah, Temple Knights are better, IMO. Just ask Jodou, lol.

I decided to stop playing online for now. My Internet connection has been prone to very brief interruptions, enough to where I get logged out of the game. It's annoying to be playing fine and then have the level reset because your Internet connection went down.

That resets your level? That thing has happened to me and it just counts as a quit game. I've never had a level rest, I would be mad!

Sorry, that's what I meant. It's not the biggest deal, I know, but it sucks when you're on a roll and almost at the last fog. >_

+ game is a little tougher than I thought it would be. Having run through the levels so many times and just mowing people down by the end... big change. Fat officials are particularly nasty this go round. Way too many hit points! And it is weird to actually have to watch out for even the smallest enemy... do tons more damage.
How did everyone beat
The False King does anyone know if Death Cloud works on him or Acid Cloud?
Only
poison cloud. If you hide at the bottom of stairs with thief ring, you can just poison cloud him when he turns his back. I recommend this... as he is tough as hell and if you might lose soul levels too.
Be safe! Don't think it's boring like I did... I paid in souls!
Oh yeah, Temple Knights are better, IMO. Just ask Jodou, lol.
Temple Knight rapes, but any class can go down the same path really. In the end, everyone is pretty much using the same gear but weapons are what define how you play. I went with a pure faith build to maximize damage output from the Large Sword of Moonlight and in PvP it's dominating since the damage is unblockable and warding does nothing to mitigate the damage either. Just remember to keep your equip burden
The guide says that you don't want to rescue him in 1-2 until you beat the boss there too. I beat the boss and he's still in his little cage. I have yet to rescue him though I might do it tonight.
Wow really i did and hes fine...
Hahaha! Went to 3-1 and used my Blue Eye Stone to help people out.

Ended up getting warped as a Black Phantom, which baffled me. I remember someone in this thread talking about getting warped like that though, so I geared up as the boss and got ready to try and kill that guy. He came through and I hit him with Poison Cloud. He starts beating my ass with some sword that makes me bleed. I fall back and cure the bleeding and my health. I cast God's Wrath and it missed. I think I'm screwed at this point but I remember I have my Scraping Spear equipped. I proceed to go on the offensive and break all of this dude's equipment. I can tell it's working since he's switching through numerous weapons. I got him in the corner and proceeded to beat him down. That was so gratifying, hahaha. I feel kinda bad for the guy since I broke all his stuff, but it didn't occur to me that that damn boss would summon me. Boy oh boy, was that damn fun to play as the stage boss though.

What other game let's you do that? I'm in love with this game.
Thats sick.. I had been avoiding talk, but I thought you
got to use his stuff, not your own... pretty sweet idea, although I can see this fizzle out in a year or two as less people are playing it, I wonder what happens if you play offline? Maybe I will understand more when I get there.

yeah i am running the assasin leather or whatever. Tons of poison resistance, way lighter than regular leather, with minimal difference in defense. ~2 points per piece or less.

Whats everyone else running for armor?

* I just realized I triple posted... I am going ot condense it to one post, just catching up from checking this thread last night..

I still have the starting equipment. >_<

And yeah, the camera and R3 can be a total bitch sometimes. Granted, it's really not as bad as other games, but I notice that R3 has a hard time finding objects in 3D space, so occasionally it will think an object just above or below you is closer than the object seemingly right in front of you.

If you play offline, you just play against a generic Black Phantom. What's the fun in that?! It'd be wise to go offline for that battle if you feel you're pretty weak though, I guess. Most people are smarter than the CPU's, after all.

Haha, yep. That was me. ChibiJosh already said what happened, but let me go more in-depth to how it worked:

I did in fact plant my Blue Soul Sign on 3-1. After a few minutes of waiting, the text at the bottom of my screen shows up saying I'm joining another world as a phantom, but then it says something like, "Invading another player's world as a Black Phantom." I ended up getting warped to 3-3 by the boss of that stage (Old Monk) and there was a cinematic for my summoning and everything. I've only beaten 3-1, so that was quite a surprise, since I haven't even been close to getting to 3-3. I had the boss health bar at the bottom of my screen and everything. It was so damn cool.
Whats everyone else running for armor?
Some people like the look and balance of the Dark Silver set, but it still hampers stamina regen heavily. I run with the Ancient King's except for the helm, which I subbed with the Assassin's Hood for more poison resist. You get less physical defense overall, but the idea is not to get hit and have greater stamina regen/mobility.

Of course, the real pro's play naked. ;)

I think I said somewhere before, arrows work great too. As long as you can learn the timing of rolling out of the way of his lunge attack, you're golden. I only got hit like 5 times in the entire fight (well, the 3rd time I tried fighting. But it was the first time I tried a bow). It's especially useful when he
goes for his AoE, cuz you can interupt it by hitting him, and at least in my experience he'd keep trying to do it like 5 in a row, so it was 5 free shots
Whats everyone else running for armor?
heh, whatever I can. No real set, but I literally took every combination of armor I had and found out what gave the highest defense and was still within 1/2 my max equip weight. I think it's one of the heavier armors, assassin's hood, mage gloves, and I forget what boots...

ATLUS SUMMONS MORE COPIES OF DEMON'S SOULS INTO STORES ACROSS NORTH AMERICA;
DELUXE EDITION SOLD OUT, OFFICIALLY DISCONTINUED
Own one of the best reviewed RPGs of all-time!

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 19, 2009 -- Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today announced that additional stock of Demon's Souls™, the newly released award-winning action RPG for PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, will be making its way to stores across North America this week in response to overwhelming demand.

"We're thrilled at the level of interest and acclaim gamers are showing for Demon's Souls, one of the best reviewed games of the year and one of the highest-rated role-playing games of all time," stated Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales for Atlus. "We're working quickly to get more copies of the game out onto store shelves. We thank fans for supporting a daring, innovative product, and we ask interested gamers to be patient as stock is replenished."

The publisher also announced that the game's Deluxe Edition, which featured a 160-page strategy guide and collectible embossed slipcase, is now considered out of print in North America and will not be remanufactured.

"While the now discontinued Deluxe Edition of Demon's Souls was the only way to obtain the game's official strategy guide, the title already benefits from an in-game messaging system, a tremendous online community, and dozens of online resources for players who are finding the game to be a bit challenging."

Among those online resources is the official Demon's Souls wiki (LINK), which offers a central location for community members to share what they've learned about the surprises that await in the Kingdom of Boletaria. As more and more people discover the game, the community-driven assistance tools expand in quality and breadth, ensuring that while gamers are tested during their adventures, they never have to be frustrated.

"Mr. Jabbari," interrupted a frantic worker. "The game-making engines... They just can't take much more of this! They're going to blow," cried the man in a thick Scottish accent before turning about and returning to the game-making furnaces, soon followed by Jabbari.

Demon's Souls is out now for PlayStation 3 system and retails with an MSRP of $59.99. For more information, visit the game's official website (LINK).

To add, gohastings is out of stock and (as SynGamer posts above) Atlus has a press release confirming that the DE is OOP and will not be reprinted.

Makes sense since the online messaging system and growing community make a hard copy guide "less necessary".

fuck DEMON'S SOULS.

fuck. fuck. fuck. fuck. fuck. fuck. fuck.

I've played for 4.5 hours, and i've killed 1 boss, 1-1. Everything else has just been a clusterfuck of deaths because this game is fucking impossible and i hope this game burns in hell.

fuck.

Haha... I run this same get up.

And punisher... go with Royal... it will make your blood pressure go down. Promise.

EDIT... nice to see about the demand and love for the game. They also twittered this...

"Demand for Demon's Souls has been tremendous--thank you! More copies are on the way to stores; please keep spreading the #demonssouls love!"

Yeah, I saw the tweet first, then went to the article. Can't wait to pop this game in tomorrow :D I need to go back a couple pages and find that post if oi about tips for starting the game...

I'm only up to 3-1, so I'm certainly no expert, but the game gets easier after the initial learning curve.

I died so many times in 1-1 because I was trying to parry every attack (that and I did a couple Peter Pans off staircases). When I realized that simply rolling to avoid attacks was easier and less risky, things got much simpler.

fuck yes, the one time I buy a collector's release, and it is a collector's release, not just a more expensive release you can find in stores for the next two years... Best day 1 purchase in years.

Saint Noir is right--try the game with the Royal. The starting areas are much easier with Soul Arrow. You'll still need to be careful and consider practicing blocking and dodging with the easier enemies, IMO, but having a range attack is invaluable, especially in the early stages of the game.

Yeah, I'm so glad I pre-ordered the DE. Almost wish I had gotten a couple more copies for my buddies as gifts, but they can slum it with the standard edition, lol.

I don't really use the guide anymore though considering the stories I'm hearing about the cover getting worn out quickly with repeated use.

HAHA. YOU DIED. But seriously. Get used to that. You're going to see a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT of that in this game. I used a Knight for my first playthrough. Soul Arrow? BAH. I rather use SOUL fuck

Now that i've calmed down:

I think i'm going to keep going with my knight for now. I didn't realize that you could choose any level you wanted, so i'll just go through the various levels and build up my character, then come back to 1-2 later. It brings me to the one major flaw with Demon's Souls, the fact that they don't really tell you what to do.

In 1-1, i tried so many times to defeat the guy guarding the level 60 door, only to realize it was pretty much impossible, and useless anyway. There was also the dragon that i couldn't even hit but i thought i needed to kill.

And at the Nexus, i didn't realize until reading online how to even find whoever it is you need to talk to to open up the rest of the world, or the fact that you can switch between world. Now that i'm a little more back on track, it's time to go back to it!

Also, the Deluxe Edition was discontinued. I own one. fuck yes :).

Yeah for me there was a "Be soul level 30 before continuing" message before the red knight and a "go here first" message in the direction of the blue knight. I guess people are getting lazy now. I've been playing through as a knight and it's not so bad. Royal is for panzies.

Also I just went through 5-1. That was by far the easiest level of the game so far. I got hit with a club that brought me to maybe three fourths of my life once. That was about it. My armor didn't even lose any durability. And if you're having problems with the boss
just try to get an ally or two and shoot him with arrows from the entrance. He can't regenerate fast enough from more than one person.

Ha, getting other souls to help you is for pansies! ^_^

But as for not knowing what to do, they were counting on the messaging system to help with that. And it does help to a certain extent.

Even when it doesn't it's something unique about the game.

oh I'm in NG+ and I'm grinding the shit outta the black phantom skellies in 4-2 w/ soulsucker. Joudo, is this the fastest way you've found to grind out souls, or is there a faster way? I also kill the golden skellies & the 2nd reaper in the level, so every run I net about 200k souls. Can't imagine there would be a way to get more than that, but if you know of one lemme know bro, thanks!

Finally found a copy a few days ago. Would have loved to have gotten my hands on the Deluxe Edition just for the guide.

Anyway, I started as a Royal and 1-1 took me 4 hours simply because I'm blind and missed one of the levers to open the door. As per one suggestion, I've grabbed the long bow from 4-1 and have the purple flame shield or whatever it's called -- my strength stat is still 7-9 points too low to use it.

Any thoughts on what to do next? What's a good progression? Head over to 2-1 next? Grind away and level up? Also, I'm hating the winged-whatever spear and rapier ... tired of poking guys to death. Any suggestions for a new weapon?

The difficulty doesn't bother me so much, I've lost a ridiculous amount of souls but I've yet to throw the controller. It's the lack of direction that's hurting me.

Personally I would do either 1-2 or jump and do most of 2. 2 has some good/great as is equipment for a royal to start out with such as
a dark heater shield and a dragon long sword.

I like the whole guy you just can't kill yet, when I returned and crushed that guy on 1-1 I felt so good. Although the fact that I did it twice and he never touched me means I could have done it then as well if I were as good as I am now (I'm still not too good - haven't made it through 5-1 yet).

It's nice to see that atlus sold out of their first shipment so the game is doing well beyond the crazy crowd found here - do they ever release how big the first shipment was? I'm sure it isn't big enough to show up on NPDs, so for all I know it could have been anywhere from 10k to 150k

It sounds like you did 1-2 already? Once you get the Soul to obtain Warding you can grind in Shrine of Storms a bit before doing 3-1. It's good to free Sage Freke early as he can teach you sweet spells that help a lot later on.

There's no real order to do the game. I see people do them in all kinds of different ways.

That sounds like a good plan to me. I appreciate the advice. We'll get crackin' nice and early tomorrow morning. Taking the day off work. ;)

Haven't completed 1-2. I managed to get all the way across the bridge and died. Got a little bored so
I climbed the second tower and pecked away at the dragon with the bow for 15 minutes to down him.

Ah, you found the gold mine I was talking about. Nothing comes close to farming that place. Are you running soul thirst and using soulsucker? When I was still grinding souls there, that was the only way I'd do it. Best part is you can just go to the vendor in the tunnel and buy 99 mana pots for the price of one kill down there. Just wait til every stat costs you 400k souls; that's what I'm up to lol.

I just spent an hour farming those damn mosquitoes and must have killed over 300 using God's Wrath, but not a single fucking marrowstone chunk dropped. Unbelievable since just yesterday I did half the runs and got 3. Is there any other gear (for male) or a spell that increases drop rates? I'm drawing a blank other than the sword of searching. And no, I'm not using stat points on luck because that's a waste.

Boss 1-5 is seriously the death of me
I watched a few vids of it and most people were either Deathcloud (which doesn't work on US version) + stamina boost ring or light enchant weapon + slash a lot. (which I might try but am skeptical. However I do have one of the better bows equipped but that isn't working too well. as he always sees me then charges and hammers me then soul sucks me. :/ Will probably grind for a couple days (at level 95 right now but apparently isn't helping) No one ever puts their soul stones down for me to invite.

Poison cloud does work. You simply need to reapply it every couple of minutes.
Just large sword of searching and black wt far as I know... not looking forward to farming the rarer ores, that's for sure.
I think black WT is just unconfirmed rumors but once Dodgers win this game, I'll try farming again. Really sucks they made random drops a trophy because it's all I have left.

The guide says black tendency increases drop rates on lots of rare ores out of lizards for sure. From 9% to about 17%. I don't know for sure if this works on other rare drops as well though.

Anyone have any tips for an order to do the game in for a Knight? I couldn't beat 1-2, so i went to 2-1, but i spent an hour only to not even make it to the boss yet. I'm really in a love/hate relationship with this game right now, can't decide if it's even worth my time or not. It's fun, but there are so many things that just piss me off.

I dunno if world order will make too much of a difference. It really sounds like you'll have an easier time with a good range attack. Either invest in Magic for Soul Arrow or Flame Toss, or get the long bow and a lot of arrows.

Yeah, if you are sticking with that character, upgrade magic or go to
level 4-1 for
a good bow.

Meh. I am officially /done/ with the Gecko hunting.

Not done as in completed, but done as in I just can't make myself care. At this point I specifically chase the damn things off.

When I get to a point where I cannot progress through a new game iteration due to weak weapons, I'm done with the game.

EVERYTHING besides Gecko Camping gives you as many chances as you'd like to get it right. X+ number of bosses= Geckos is still Missable in my book.
