Fallout 3 - Gen. Discussion & Info - 'GOTY' Edition w/All 5 DLC Packs 10.13.09

You can return anytime you want.

Just finished it. Took roughly seven hours. Pretty good since I got through the other DLC add-ons pretty quickly.

Wow, seven hours? Not bad at all, in my opinion. My only disappointment with this one is that it doesn't seem to really add any cool equipment. The DB shotgun is a pretty cool novelty, but I stopped using it after a few minutes.

Yeah, there weren't any kick ass equips that I could see myself using later on. The main quests were insanely fun though. Especially the second one! Freakin' crazyyyyyyyy.

For clarification, there are thirty locations if you're going for the achievement. Maybe one more, but thirty was the amount I counted.

The lever-action rifle (and its unique variant, the Backwater Rifle) is actually pretty good. I didn't realized it uses 10mm rounds. Not bad. Still, considering all of the powerful crap I have, I'll probably just mess around with it for awhile.

I really dig Point Lookout, if only because it's a change of scenery (Note: I didn't download The Pitt.. I'm sure I will sometime soon). OA was really short and I only downloaded Broken Steel last night, so PL is pretty cool. I spent at least two hours just exploring it before I even did any of the main quests. I wish there were more random objects laying around instead of the usual. I love the Lever-Action rifle.

One funny thing I've seen so far.. in one of the motel rooms, there's two skeletons there with a ton of pre-war money. Someone totally robbed a bank and tried to retreat to PL

One of the saddest things in Fallout I've seen is behind the mansion on a park bench overlooking the ocean. There's a skeleton hunched over a baby carriage. There's a toy car, a teddy bear, a few empty whiskey bottles, and a 10mm pistol  There's also a small group of flowers, possibly the first I've seen in Fallout.

Done with Lookout already. Main story was pretty short like the others were. There is a good bit of content there though that I still have to go back and go through, that and maybe play through a couple parts to see the other options. Overall well worth it I think, better than Operation Anchorage or The Pitt...as good as Broken Steel.

LOL! Not only that, but there is blood by each skeleton, so it looks like they probably ended up arguing over the money and killed each other.

I finished lookout, I got all the achievements as well. Spy mission was cool. I didn't really like it as much as broken steel or the pitt.

Got a lot on my plate right now.. will surely pick this up early next month.

@ilivas: is this about the same length as the other DLCs?

One of my favorite things about Fallout is how they can tell a story with dead bodies and objects. They can set up a small camp and explain who the people were and how they died with objects. I really wish they would have created more misc objects (like you said), because they could have done a lot more.

The hunters you run across the wasteland sell strange meat. I thought it was a bug, since strange meat is human flesh. But you can actually see the hunters attacking lone wastelanders for food. So the strange meat in their inventory is hinting that they are cannibals. They also have some dialogue that hints at this as well.

I always love the little shelters you find via the radio signals. I felt so bad when you hear the broadcast of the guy asking for medical assistance for his son.

Another nice touch was the the terminal entries in the Dunwich Building...

I'd say it's a little shorter. The "find all 40 locations achievement" took awhile, but it's a lame achievement. It's just busy work.

Finding all of the locations is fairly easily, as long as you are doing all of the quests on the map. You'll either be going to most of them for the quests, or else they are pretty close to where you are going.

Oh, I only did the main quest, and the chinese spy quest. After that, I ran around with my chinese stealth invisi-armor and ran towards all the hollow triangles.

I wish they wouldn't have put 50+ Confederate Hats in the damn mansion and had some nicer outfits or something instead. My character looks nice wearing one, though.

The hicks are too funny lookin', too. I hate the double barrel shotgun, but it does some really nice damage in close quarters.

I didn't like the weapons as much, but the little short range scrambler thing is kind of cool. I use still use the weapons, and armor from the other DLCs like the chinese stealth armor, winterized t51b armor, tesla cannon, and tri-beam laser rifle.

There's a lot of mesmer-whatever ammo which is good since I killed every person in paradise falls to get my kill 300 people achievement. Come to think of it, I killed everyone in every town.

Debating whether to pick up PL and OA/TP DLCs w/points or DLC cards from Amazon. I'm leaning towards the latter, but I just wish the Amazon $5 off promo applied to these...

I really think that Point Lookout is the best DLC yet.. the sheer amount of story packed into it is amazing.. all this in one's months worth of development? WOW! My favorite mission was actually the Chinese spy mission, since you learned a lot about the covert side of the Great War.

In my opinion, Point Lookout > Broken Steel > Operation Anchorage > The Pitt.

Looking forward to #5!

Technically, it would be the covert side of the Resource Wars. The Great War is only the two hour period on October 23rd, 2077, during which the bombs fell.

Considering the sheer amount of penetration the Chinese had into America, though, it really makes you wonder if it was the US that triggered the Great War. In the main game, you have a building full of Chinese operatives at Mama Dolce's, you have a radio broadcast of Chinese propaganda, and you have other various Chinese troops (likely detached from MD's) scattered all across the waste. And now, Point Lookout just adds even more fuel to that fire.

I stopped playing a while ago because I got stuck after getting outnumbered right when I entered an area so I pretty much hard a trial and error frustration fit. Well decided to start up again and sure enough the same thing happened to me, jesus. I barely got away and my last save was 4 hours ago so I had to use my autosave and just luck out with like 34 hp. The game is great when it works.

I found Point Lookout to be a bit disappointing. It is the first of the DLC for Fallout 3 to have me feeling like I did not get my moneys worth. I would rank them in this order....Broken Steel, The Pitt, Operation Anchorage, and Point Lookout. I really think this should have been 5 bucks or so. It was by FAR the shortest of the DLC, even Operation Anchorage took me longer to finish. I think there might be one or more side quests I have not done yet, and Operation Anchorage really was a linear experiance, but this was dissapointing. To get all achievments I think it took me maybe 2 hours tops.

That being said, there was one moment, and anyone who has played it knows what I am talking about, that was truly a mind fuck of a moment. Almost made it worth the 10 bucks.

Did you do the Velvet Curtain side quest? It's got some meat to it and added some interesting stuff to the overall story of the Fallout universe, in my opinion. I also kind of enjoyed the Dark Heart of Blackhall, just because I felt really bad when
I found Marcella was murdered
. I also liked how they tied that into Jamie and the Dunwich Building.

Yes I did the Velvet Curtain, but I did not do Dark Heart of Blackhall....Velvet Curtain was sort of fun, but predictable....

Definitely. OA has the best equipment you can get in the game. The Winterized T-51b Power Armor has great stats and insane item HP (over 1 million, whereas standard Power Armor has 1000). The Chinese Stealth Suit is considered game-breaking by some, because you can allegedly run right up to people in daylight, and they still won't see you. I never used it, though, so I can't comment. Jingwei's Shock Sword is a pretty sick melee weapon, too. I think the only one that is better is the Shishkebab combined with the Pyro perk.
I am just considering getting the disk that has them both on it for 13 used at GS.
Can you download this and then take it right back to GS for a refund?

How? If it's used, won't the code already be taken? :?:

I'm mostly done with Point Lookout. It's good. It's mostly exploration and interesting quests. You get some new weapons, which are cool, but the other DLCs had better weapons. I don't think there's a doctor there, which is annoying if you have addictions.

I would imagine it would take most people between 5-8 hours to do the quests and get all the achievements. If you just did the quests with achievements and didn't go to all the locations (or do the other quests), you would probably spend around 3-4 hours.

Each of the DLCs has been very different. My least favorite one was anchorage. I actually really liked the Outcast part at the beginning and end. It has a super mutant fight similar to the GNR one. I didn't think the simulation itself was that interesting though.

so when i first played Fallout 3, pretty much the first thing i did was blow up megaton city, leading me not no where to find my father, which lead me to wander around the wasteland, aimlessly creating all sorts of adventures for myself and eventually going to Rivet city to finish the game, i spent 40 hours with that character so far and it was awesome.

yesterday i started a new character and decided to be good, and omg, how much new crap i missed for blowing up megaton LOL, i feel like im experiencing the game for the first time again, its a whole new experience. god i love this game.
Is the dlc pack (pitt and anchorage) actually worth it?
I think they were all worth it, but then again I'm pretty much nuts about Fallout 3. Out of the 4 packs thus far, I'd say The Pitt is my least favorite just because half the 5 hours or so I put into it was spent looking for the steel ingots. Broken Steel wasn't all that hot either in my opinion, except for the fact that it ups the level cap and lets you continue playing, but the actual missions weren't that interesting for me. Still, it's the one DLC you can bring Fawkes with you. My favorites were Operation Anchorage and Point Lookout. Both places are much different than anything else in the game and like others have said, the loot from Anchorage is insane. I haven't even messed with the armor, but the Chinese sneak suit is borderline cheating if you already have a high sneak. I also thought the mission was pretty fun. Point Lookout actually kind of sucks in the way of loot, but it also has the most new stuff to do of the four I'd say and I thought the side mission "The Velvet Curtain" is one of the better ones in the whole game. I just wish they had included more missions with it because it almost seems kind of wasteful with such a big area. Can't wait for Mothership Zeta now.

Just beat broken steel and am looking to try the others. Does buying the expansion disk at gs and then downloading it work or do you need to have the expansions disk in the slot to play.

you install the disc on your 360, and then you run off of the fallout 3 disc, so you dont use the dlc disc

The Zeta DLC looks great! Can't wait to try out the new alien weapons. I'm working my way through the operation anchorage DLC that I picked up during the discount week. Any suggestions on which DLC to grab next? I only have OA but plan on getting them all eventually.

Man, they have really turned Fallout 3 into a freakin machine. I haven't picked it up since Operation Anchorage came out, but I have been following each release. I think they are a little overpriced @ $10 a month myself, but I am wondering how much longer I can have the willpower to say no.

The "Earth's past" comment really have me intrigued. Do the aliens have famous people in stasis or cloned? What if I get to give the Lincoln Repeater to...Lincoln?!?! Mind = blown.

I'm waiting for a game of the year edition. 2-disc's, Disk 1 = the full original game, Disk 2 = all DLC and some commentary and such. I'll gladly pay $60 for that.

Definitely looking forward to Mothership Zeta... I don't think $10 is too much to ask for monthly episodes. Don't WoW players pay more than that?

I'm thinking I might sell the game after MZ comes out.. unless there's more DLC to come.
