Gears of War 3 - Release Date Sept. 20

I've done 50 horde waves on the new maps 3 times already, lol, so I'm gonna pass on that one, sorry. I still need "I've got this" though (10 kills as Guardian leader on FoN map in one round). I've got hw tonight, but I'll leave my xbox on in case anyone wants to try and knock that out (since this might be the last chance we get).

That is the last DLC achievement I need as well. Just can't get 10 kills before I die or someone kills the leader. Maybe we can get a team in a room of bots and go from there
 
This weekend is old school horde event. whatever that means, maybe no fortifications and only gears 2 type enemies?

Also there will be the raven down execution gnasher/pistol only this weekend but on every map.

I can still help you with what we got tho and I still need help in some earlier stuff as well as the horde and beast cheves. For those who need to do 50 waves, I still need the ribbon for doing 50 in one sitting, but mutators can speed that up.

Had a lot of fun last night just playing as a team on Guardian. We should do that more often! It kind of sucks going in alone when no one talks or works together.
 
Got my 53rd, 54th, and 55th Onyx medals today. Hammerburst, Rifleman, and Master at arms. Really glad i got that over with. Only have 10 left, and 3 of them i have to do manually. Skunker and Wingman might be the last one i end up getting. The rest im halfway there or better.

the highlight of the evening was, our leader died and then we all went berserk and killed their team in one quick rush. I still chuckle when I think about it...and that team was decent.

I'll be on tonight for whatever. I still need the elemental cleaver kills and beast. I figure I'll do bag and tag on my own time.

Now that you guys have the Ivory Skin we'd play even since we don't have to hold out for 10 kills.

I still need the Beast stuff, and if people want to play Classic Horde I'll play.
 
wow i was just removed from a guardian match for not playing, but i was, camping like a leader should. And i was well on my way to another untouchable ribbon. -_-

I played some horde and it IS intense. We got to wave 18 i think before i quit because the host was leaving (last guy alive was walking backwards constantly into a wall). But it was pretty cool, brings back Gears 2 horde memories.

100xp, bag n tag takes all of 2 minutes if you do a private KOTH. You dont even have to hit anyone with the bag n tag for it to count. I was kind of surprised about that.

Man..I thought I was tripping or something on sandbar. 1 random quit in the menus. looked around and noticed everyone had bunny heads. Tried to race to top and heard wretches already racing around me. Started my chainsaw and just ran around chainsawing everything. 1 more random quits midway through the level and 1 more quits at the start of 2nd. So it was just me and another random running around chainsawing/sawshotgunning everything. No rest...no barriers...just bunny parts everywhere.

Two guys quit before Wave 1 even started when I played. Then the host quit, calling us a gay slur for wasting his time...even though we were the ones who stayed in the game. Migrated game made me the host. The last guy quit after Wave 3, pissed because I got 3 Point Man Ribbons, and he was downed in all 3 rounds (though he was always revived by me).

I still don't understand how people don't "get" that in Horde your find a place and hold it, not run around like a dip-shit, then start crying like a jackass when you're downed.

It really was nice to play this mode, even if I only played 4 Waves, so far. It's interesting to see how poorly people play without fortifications to aid them.

I really hope they keep an option for Classic Horde in the menus, as I like not having to compete for the Silverback, or worry about repairs. Plus I like how fast it happens...minus the instant loss of Boom Shields between waves unless you've grabbed them. Even Gears of War 2 gave you time between Waves to collect and set them up.
 
Yeah the weapons and stuff disappear so fast if you dont grab them before the wave ends. On the plus side ammo is only 1000k and it gave me boomshot ammo when i bought it, 3 x boom. I dont remember it doing that in gears 2. I would also like to see this mode stay as a classic horde mode. I dont really care to build and repair things.

I kind of miss gears 2. I feel like most of the maps that came with Gears 3 are too wide open and more for rifles. COD maps. I sort of miss a lot of the gears 2 maps, even the shitty ones. Especially when i play Guardian. Though i think the FON maps are good, and have a good Gears feel to them. But the maps that came on disc are too open and rifle friendly. IMO thats not gears.

I was thinking about how i wish they could bring back River, but idk if that map would be good in gears 3. With the amount of time you have to wait as the leader before you can move, you would probably end up getting killed before you got to the shack on your side. Either people would rush over or maybe even grab torque/sniper before you make it all the way there. I also miss Security, and all of the snowblind maps.

Is it just me, or has everyone in gears switched to the retro for their rifle? Sometimes in a great while i see a lancer but all i see lately is retros. People just sit back and spray and pray. I use it myself but mainly when im leader in guardian. If im not leader i strictly use my gnasher most of the time.

and im 3 untouchable ribbons from my 56th onyx, yeah played a lot of guardian tonight. :)
 
I thought Classic Horde would be awesome, since I really enjoyed it in Gears 2... Turns out, once you've played 2.0, you can't go home again. I really missed the fortifications. :lol:

I also noticed that randoms refused to hole up in one spot and defend it, they insisted on running all about the map and got downed constantly.
 
You can pretty much tell how far your team will get on horde by how the players work in the semi-early rounds.

If they're setting up defenses and backing-up each other, then you'll get pretty far.

If they're all over the map and only one guy is setting up the defense...you're bound to get quitters when the going gets tough...and everyone is screwed.

@ebbtide. Yup...we did pretty well, when we stuck together at the sandbar hilltop. But, somewhere in the 6-7th round, he started running off on his own...I'd try to follow and when he got downed..I healed him..worked on the 2-3 grunts that where surrounding us and looked around...and he had gone off on his own again and gotten himself killed.
 
Would anyone want to play Insane Horde tomorrow with 1 easy mutator (Super Reload) and 2 hard ones? You'll get a lot of XP from the 2x XP event going on, and if we get to an impassible wave we can just start from Wave 1 to continue getting XP. Plus, Classic Horde starts the waves immediately, so it should potentially be faster than actual Horde.

Blood Drive would probably be an easier map to use if people are interested.
 
I'm down for that. What about Escalation? In normal horde on normal difficulty a random and I lasted 32 rounds. I lasted two more and would have been longer if I hadn't done something stupid. Even without fortifications all you need to do is hold two bottlenecks and you can always drop back a set of bottlenecks or two if you start getting overrun. Beyond that I'll be down for beast on new maps or the previous maps, beast on insane, horde on insane or really anything.
 
Saw this on raptr, sounds interesting. I would love to get some more campaign DLC, but i really want some old gears 2 maps. They had a lot of good maps. Miss a lot of them. Not sure who everyones fav could be but id love to play as dizzy. A horde vs beast mode sounds interesting.

At the Epic Games panel at PAX East, Cliff Bleszinski hinted at new downloadable content for Gears of War 3.

The DLC will expand on a character that didn’t get much story in Gears of War 3 and stated that the character is ‘everyone’s favorite‘. Could we being seeing more of Colonel Victor Hoffman or Bernadette Mataki? Maybe a storyline based around Dizzy before we met him? It appears that this DLC will be storyline based, like the RAAM’s Shadow DLC and being the 6th installment of DLC for the game could be the last. With each DLC also coming within 2-3 months of each other, we could be seeing this DLC around June-July time. Of course, this is all speculation.

A Horde/Beast Versus mode was also mentioned, this would clearly combine the two modes and players would battle it out as both sides. This would be an extremely fun game mode and it will be interesting to see how they do it if it is released as a game mode.

I'll play horde/beast with you guys. More XP to get to my next set of wings.

Neat idea about horde/beast. I was excited that they were amping the beast for this weekend but it was disappointing in the end.

Also, I need the following ribbons:
Retribution - killed your nemesis
Trick Shot - 1 Torque Bow headshot leading to a double kill
Sapper Star - Killed an opponent with his own planted frag grenade.
Ole - grenade tagged a retro charging opponent
Roadblock - stopped a retro charge with the SOS
Want Something Done - Captured the enemy leader when playing as the leader
Rear Guard - Survived every round of wingman
Sacrifice - broke the ring alone while DBNO
Special Delivery - Killed an opponent with a bag and tag
No Smoking - killed an opponent with a smoke grenade
Medic - revived 5 teammates in a round
I Gotcha - Revived all 4 teammates in one wave

Also some singleplayer ones that I'm going to boost now including: kicked 5 small enemies, kill 3 headsnakes, sever 5 lambent mutant arms, and killed 4 former with a retro charge

EDIT: Damn I just need one more ribbon! The revive 4 players in 1 wave of horde one... will probably need some help from you guys on that one.

My family came far earlier and left much later than I expected.

I'm on now though, if people want to play.

Revive ribbon is easy. Just throw on friendly fire and you can get it in less than a minute. As for getting 5 people in a game, I have an extra controller I can login a guest as to help you get it You'd still need 2 more.

If the XP bonus is around, would people want to try to do Horde or Beast tomorrow? I really don't care about the XP bonus, I just figure it's an extra incentive. I still need to do the Forces of Nature Beast maps.
 
78/82 for this game now. All I need are the two re-ups, the ribbons, and Seriously 3.0. I'm not sure if I want to worry about grinding out the ribbons, I have something like 101/132 right now. I'll probably get to it eventually. God knows I'll never have Seriously 3.0.
 
I enjoyed the classic horde this weekend. didn't make 50 waves on any map.. but it was a real change of pace. the 2xp was nice as well.

How many people have that one friend that has re-uped so much faster then you. But they suck so bad at all game types *even horde* so the whole time I was playing with my friend this weekend I just got mad as hell bc I'm still on my first 98. this guy is on a red 75. come on. granted he has no job no kids and can play all day but damn man. the guy dies about 6 times out of 10 waves of horde. I'm talking about he died on wave 1, times in a row on normal!

if your buddies sucks lambent bawls and is close to red wings, he probably just found a way to boost medals for xp very efficiently. it's also possible he never turned off his xbox since launch.

We played Aftermath after you left, so now we all need just Artillery and Raven Down. If we play tonight, I might bump it up to Normal difficulty, just so that we get a little more XP bonus.

Also, we'll try to do the Just in Time ribbon again, since it seems it's only awarded to the individual who scores the final kill on the last second, and not the whole team.

And if people still need to beat Insane Beast without failing, it might be better to try it after the Event is over. The Onyx Guards and abundance of heroes makes it difficult to get through the waves as it is. If people are interested in the challenge, though, I'd definitely play. Insane Beast with 2x XP should turn out some worthwhile XP (I'd hope).
 
I'll be on tonight to try and get my last ribbon if you guys wouldn't mind helping. It should only take a second, and maybe we can play some more guardian or something afterwards? Or if anyone needs some help with specific ribbons I'd be happy to help with that too.

I'm going to be finishing up MMA and Burnout before the servers close Friday, but after that I'll be down for beast/horde if you haven't done it by then.
 
Today i had a nice game of guardian with 25 kills and 6 deaths. But for every good game i have bad games. I remember one game on thrashball i mantle kicked 2 people, and gave them each one point blank gnasher shot, both sponged it and i died. I remember another game im playing on raven down and i was the leader. 3 guys come rushing me around a corner and i blow the first one away one shot, 2nd i kill with one shot. next guy comes bam.... bam.... bam.... bam... 4 shots into him and he shoots back at me and i die. Then he gets killed immediately by one of my teammates and i get +9 assist points, WTF? LOL My favorite is getting killed by the fisher price shotgun from 5-10 feet away.
 
the blue has the most potential to be used as a great cosplay or costume prop. the rest look like Nerf guns...of course if your wife loves the color pink, get the pink.

Is it too late to get a refund? Those look really disappointing, and it's not what you wanted.

I'd like to try to do Insane Horde tonight with Super Reload and 2 hard mutator (Must Active Reload and Vampire?). That setup combined with the 2x XP still being offered, and free item pickups, until tomorrow (potentially?), should allow for decent XP gain. I have no expectation of actually completing Insane Horde without 3 easy mutators, so I just plan on restarting it to Wave 1 every time we fail to continue to gain XP.

If anybody is interested, let me know.
