Gears of War 3 - Release Date Sept. 20
So, being that it's easy to find deals on live for $40-$50 for 12 months, why is it a deal to pay $10-$20 more for two extra months? Just the art on the card?
I'm saying that if you wanted the card that will give you your 14mos that card that is posted is not the right card so you will spend your $60 and end up looking stupid when you don't get your extra 2mos or the lancer dlc. so do what you want. I have 4mos left on my 12mos live for $12 deal.

Hustle: I think Rod or Joe is supposed to announce the weapon skin price tonight along with more details on the Season Pass. I forget the PST time but it should translate to around 10 - 11pm EST.
That's the first time I've seen the skin, now that I think about it, it's even more bullshit that the gold skin we get for being such great fans isn't even animated. Nit picking or not the bullshit keeps coming.

I think Gold looks gaudy and awful. I'm holding out hope that Onyx looks cool. I guess there's no way to see that one for quite a while, eh?

Dude... that's just the current state of the industry and general developer attitude speaking for itself. Lately it seems production costs and demand are so high everyone is maintaining focus on attracting new fans to cover it while taking the core audience for granted because they have already more or less secured our money. I obviously don't agree with it, but ultimately understand the logic behind it. The casual audience greatly outnumbers the hardcore regardless of how much they play so devs can afford to neglect us in any capacity either way. Most of us aren't going anywhere and the few that do are nothing more than a drop in the bucket.

Take this ridiculous weapon skin situation for instance man. How many angsty posts did you read on Epic's forum that ended with "but I'm still probably going to buy them..."? I mean... come on. Really? We're as much to blame as they are for the current state of affairs. For every one of us that refuses to pay for this shit you can guarantee 10 - 20 will fight tooth and nail over our spot in line.

When the bullshit is simply too much to bare I write off the franchise and move onto another or buy used. I always speak with my money. The real problem is options are becoming so limited if it gets any worse I would be much better off finding a new hobby.

Trakan: I wouldn't be so sure of that. 6,000 kills isn't that much if you play a few hours every day and there have already been reports of early adopters in the 70s from boosting on bots and beating on reviewers. I'm pretty sure I was over 2,000 before the beta was over. At the very least over 1,000. Time flies when you're a competent player having fun.

Ink is right. If you want some bullshit things look at how well the horse armor sold in Oblivion and look at how well the colors and packs sold in SSFIV, SFIV and MvC3.

It's a tough problem. On the one hand, a game like Gears 3 probably has a budget comparable to a Hollywood action movie and if we want to keep seeing games like that, Epic needs to make money on the game any way it can. And, not to be that guy, but at the end of the day, this stuff is optional. I think it's hard to argue that someone who pays their $60, leaves it at that and ignores the DLC isn't still getting a worthwhile experience.

On the other hand, you'd think that there would be a way to make money off of DLC while avoiding the perception that you're screwing over your fanbase or nickel-and-diming them to death. And you'd think that Epic, a company with a generally positive reputation and a good relationship with its fans, would be able and inclined to figure out how.

I don't know though, maybe they're perfectly aware of the bad PR this is generating, but they've run the numbers and it's still a net positive.

Why would anyone in their right mind use one of those skins? All you are doing is making it easier to see your character. The gaudier the skin the easier it is for a sniper to pop off your dome or for someone to spot you while you are running for cover.

I did read somewhere that a lot of the reason they are justifying the micro transactions is that they are having to pay for the dedicated servers. If that is the case I am willing to cut them some slack. Nickel and diming idiots so I can have a lag free experience is fine by me.

Its amazing how many people give a shit about skin color on a gun. I agree with this.
So...$45 for skins? No thanks, Epic. This is worse than Street Fighter 4.
So is it true 3600 MSP is what I've been seeing for the skin so called "DISCOUNTED" skin pack? Yeah epic can fuck off and suck my left nut. Not buying.

Yeah, not buying any weapon skins now. I'll just use the ones we have, and whatever comes with the Season Pass (How is the season pass that actually gives maps and such cheaper then weapon skins? That's ridiculous!).

Well for the affordable price of absolutely nothing I'll have a slightly easier time recognizing the morons, fresh meat and hardcore fanboys when the match starts so that's good. The road to Onyx should be fun. Any news on Season Pass or November DLC contents from the stream yet? Depending on that and the price of extra characters I might skip those too. If this sort of price point carries over to map packs I'll ignore those as well.

Yikes...

All Weapon Skins - 3600MSP

Animated Weapon Skin - 320MSP (All 5 Starting Weapons)

Non Animated Weapon Skin - 240MSP (All 5 Starting Weapons)

All Hammerburst Skins - 1200MSP

All Lancer Skins - 1200MSP

All Retro Lancer Skins - 1200MSP

All Shotgun Skins - 1200MSP (Both Gnasher and Sawed Off)

240 points for static skin sets (all 5 weapons); 320 for animated skins sets. Rod said 21 skins which has me wondering if they downgraded a set from the original list to an in-game unlock. Also confirmed the existence of other skins in future DLC. All of this information is on his twitter account GearsViking.

I wish he'd shed some light the Season Pass so I could plan ahead of time.

EDIT: Nevermind as Ryu saves the day with much needed info. Does the all inclusive single weapon DLC skin package include gold and beta unlocks?
All I want is the green and pink skins, hopefully they're unlockable in game.
Anyone know if the pink skin is animated or not?
Anyone know if the pink skin is animated or not?
I don't think it is. Every picture I've seen of it just makes it look like a normal non-animated skin, same with the green.

Wow $45 for all the skins, fucking cock suckers!!!!!!!!

When you lay out the option to buy 1 set of skins for all weapons $4 doesn't seem like much but when you add it up it's way more than $45. I cannot justify $45 on extra pixels I can't even use all at the same time.

I'm probably not going to buy the Season Pass either when it comes out to $30 and I'm not even sure I want everything in it............but I have 4k MSP just hanging around uhhhgggg

Just save your points for the campaign DLC of other future games like I am. Not like Epic is making the decision that difficult man.

The only one I'm interested in is hot pink....I did just get 400 free points from some twitter contest, so I guess I could get the one skin...but just doesn't feel right.

I'm gonna rock the official CAG skin. That's the ONE THAT COMES WITH THE GAME THAT DOESNT COST A PENNY MORE!

Mostly kidding. I'm a sucker for digitial goods and I'm actually just fine with microtransactions and what not, but that does seem a little steep for weapon skin packs. But, hey, to each his own. I do like the idea that some would go to charity. I'd be more likely to pick one up if I knew it went to childs play or whatever.

Nickle and Dime isnt the right phrase to use for what they are doing. LOL Seriously 45 bucks for WEAPON SKINS? WTF. I might buy 1 or 2, like the Deadly Cute, but no way in hell im spending 45 dollars for the whole lot. 15 dollars for all of the skins to use on both shotguns seems like a bargain since the other 3 weapons are all split up by themselves. If they combined shottys why not lancers, and cut the hammerbursts lower than both those packs to maybe 10 bucks. I guess the good thing is not everyone will have all the skins, if that is any kind of positive spin to put on this. if it was 800 pts im sure most people would shell out that for the whole wad.

You know how many MLG idiots are going to buy these things to stick out from the crowd, or how many idiot newbies are going to do the same? So many dumbasses are going to buy these things that it is going to be hilarious. I don't care what they charge there is always going to be some idiot lined up to buy some.

They already stick out from the crowd by being gigantic toolboxes. :p

I will sell the Game and both controllers (since i already got the game+controller from walmart 100 dollar deal) to make some money back, and probably will sell Kantus and infected omen+adam fenix DLC too. If you are interested in any of this DLC let me know, id rather sell it here than on ebay. Though ill be trying to get as much as i can for em.
Heard that.
Yup.

Who gives a shit about this? It doesn't make the guns any better. You want it, buy it.

I played Gears 1 and 2 without skins just fine.

I have a question regarding a pre-order. Did anyone here pre-order gears 3 at walmart.com? It say my gears shipped yesterday?? So does walmart get the copy earlier?? What is the deal =0

Im thinking of selling my walmart pre order skin. I mean the game has a guy that looks almost like him, and im pretty sure these pre order skins will end up in the season pass, or possibly DLC later.

I still can't believe that the weapon skins pack cost 45$. I look at it like this, I am all for DLC but only if it's actual content that adds to the gameplay, nothing cosmetic. And normally when you buy dlc the cost is that of a couple of indie games, maybe even an arcade game. But with this you would be paying 45$ which is the price of some actual retail games such as Halo Anniversary, and instead of getting a full game, you get some guns that do absolutely nothing for you. Now I can see people buying a skin or two that they really like at this price but I just don't see the bundle being justified at all.

A high-profile game like this, retailers usually get them at least a week or two in advance. That way, there is no shipping delay and they can have the product on store shelves the day it releases.

Just heard they decreased the rounds of Execution and Warzone from 5 to 3 in the retail. So not only does Epic not understand the definition of 'exclusive' they are equally clueless on the word 'unchanged' as well. It's becoming obvious the only thing I have to look forward to besides the Onyx unlock at launch is the game play until unnecessary TU weapon nerfs ruin that too. Definitely going to scrounge up enough cash for X-Men: Destiny this month now instead of postponing it. I'm honestly not sure why they feel the need to penalize players who prefer Execution rules over Warzone. God forbid some people prefer to not have their kills stolen from jackasses across the map. I had my fill of TDM in the beta, loathed Annex game types so it's a miracle I enjoyed KOTH but that will eventually grow stale, Wingman with a random is guaranteed frustration and CTL is Submission 2.0. This is so stupid.
