Gears of War 3 - Release Date Sept. 20

Going to have to agree with this. As a casual fan you might just want to pick up DLC 3, and probably 4 for the maps/dedicated servers. I beat RAAMs shadow and it was a nice little campaign, but nothing you must play. Ive also only played it once through, a few chapters here and there to help others get achievements. Personally though, for me, i love gears of war so i want to buy every MP skin, map pack, campaign, whatever. (with the exception of weapon skins). So id say if you are just a casual fan go for DLC 3 and 4, if you love gears get the season pass.
 
DLC 4 - Forces of Nature - Coming March 27th

Screw it, i made my own post, but this one from Epic forums is more informative....

New Maps:

AFTERMATH – Aftermath is a government park after a tsunami. There is seaweed and wreckage everywhere, and the main play space sits under a huge cargo ship which was deposited on top of a building during the storm. The area floods and quakes during gameplay, as the whole thing is teetering on the edge of falling into the water below. This has gameplay implications as it is difficult to aim during the quakes, and difficult to be stealthy while splashing through the water.

ARTILLERY – Artillery starts out looking like an ordinary military base, but during gameplay a storm kicks up. Lightning begins to flash on the horizon and eventually a tornado develops and sweeps near the play space. Dust and debris are kicked up making it difficult to see, and the buffeting winds can mask your approach.

COVE – Cove is a small port that the Stranded have taken over and turned into a little village. The map is very open with long lines of sight, but there is a really, really heavy layer of fog that masks just about everything. There’s a really nice sniper nest inside a central ship, but the sniper’s form is silhouetted by the low angle light shining through the fog.

JACINTO – Jacinto was a beautiful city, but huge stalks have popped up through the buildings and flooded the entire area with imulsion. Half of the map is dead and crumbling, with imulsion fumes hanging in the air. To make matters worse, the drizzle that is present when a match begins quickly develops into a heavy rain storm that impedes visibility and lines of sight as water starts sheeting off the buildings.

RAVEN DOWN – Raven Down is a very small crossroads that is blanketed in a blinding snow storm. A Raven helicopter has crashed in the storm, and crashed through an elevated train on its way down, so there’s train wreckage to deal with as well. The snowstorm ebbs occasionally, but is more often so heavy that it’s difficult to see more than a few meters ahead at any given time.

New Characters:

New Weapon:
Elemental Cleavers(Horde Easter Eggs)
snow cleaver - that can gust an icy breeze at an enemy and stun them from a distance
emulsion cleaver - that explodes on impact and does a small amount of AOE burning damage to nearby enemies in addition to the normal cleaver damage

New Weapon Skins - 5 new weapon skins for immediate use, and 2 additional weapon skins that were designed based on community feedback that can only be unlocked through gameplay in the 'Forces of Nature' DLC

wow...that's shite (for ppl who worked hard to collect all the preorder skins through trades and great for ppl that didn't), giving the preorder skins away? I want a beta cole skin then.

snow cleaver? Sounds like Climhazzard...did Locust have this tech? I want Wally Cleaver how about that?

I thought they were going to do something for Beast mode?

I hope at least the skins don't dissapoint, maps are great but I was hoping for something more substantial like more advanced tech in Horde or more locust in Beast. Hopefully one of the achievements isn't, Re-up 5 times!
 
I somehow knew that there was not going to be a purely Beast focused DLC. I'll reserve judgment on this until I see the weapon skins and achievements. :)
 
Blue Mechanic Baird looks better than my grey one. I wonder why Epic didn't offer that to Best Buy. It would have gone better with their blue shirts.

I just found out you can get Come to Poppa and Locust, Forever in Brothers to the End playlist. I still need them, so if someone can help me get them I'd appreciate it.

I think I need them as well. I will be doing some Insane horde tomorrow morning(I work tonight and all weekend night shift) if anyone wants to do kick some locust ass tomorrow morn just let me know. or just hope in anytime!

So basically what I'm reading here is, "Forces of Nature" DLC is free for season pass holders...and we're due one more DLC as part of our Season pass holding?

I've been getting my ass handed to me lately in MP by people with Retro. Sawed Off I can tolerate, since the reload time is really slow and if they miss they're fucked. Retro on the other hand, god damn it. I get downed with like 4 bullets of Active or so. I barely have a chance to move.

not sure what's more annoying to me, getting sprint double bashed in Reach or getting evade/shotgunned in 1 hit while 3 of my shots seem to always do 99% of their life in damage but never downing them.

i like the retro though because it packs a punch at close range and of course you can retro charge...c'mon now.
 
made it to level 268, also got my sawed off to gold medal, yeah only 4,000 more kills till i can go back to a real shotgun. Also got silver in wingman and all fathers, so i unlocked prescott. Ive been using him, since he is rare online, and also he is pretty small. His comments are pretty funny too.
 
Been sick and recuperating so I just went to play a little random horde with no mic. After the first round only two of us were left. The other guy gave me all his cash after round 32 and quit. I made a dumb mistake and died near the end of round 34. Should have made it another round or two, but I got greedy. This was on Escalation. Really goes to show how teamwork and holding a strategic point can work in horde. I bet we could have lasted all fifty. It did help that the bosses we faced were Reavers twice and the lobsters once.

Lobsters are easy to beat. Just boil them and serve with some melted butter :). Gotta love autocorrect
 
Can't blame autocorrect on that one. I always forget what corpsers are called so I call them lobsters, crabs, spiderthings, whatever.

Can you tell which icon is for the level 100 and level 400?

After seeing this, i might just keep my 300 wings, they are red. Bronze and Gold are hard to tell apart. But that means i wont be able to get the last set of Re-up skins if i keep red.

that's just crazy that you/(we the people) can't tell a diff. I will re-up after I get my first set of wings. just hit 90 last night. I think I will be doing some insane horde the next couple of weekends. with work and the wife it will take me at least 2 weekends (if not more) to get the last 10

Are you in agreement that it is hard to tell them apart, or are you saying its crazy i cant tell the difference? Im colorblind, but beside that fact, if there isnt a 100 and 400 in the same room together, it could be hard to tell them apart.

Ok LOL.

Man i hate the sawed off so much. I recently got to 2000 kills with it, i hate knowing i still have to get 4000 more kills. I feel like it makes me a worse player when i try to use it online. Like 50% of the time i shoot someone with it, nothing happens, even if its point blank. But i see people kill others, or me, from 5+ feet away with it. It just doesnt make much sense for me to use my gnasher since i already onyx that, and still need SOS kills. But its a chore to use and makes me look like a noob when my shot goes right through them and i have to run because it didnt kill them. Also i hate playing bots, so getting SOS kills in private matches would be so boring, but i might have to go that route.

Epic said that the onyx color didn't show up on the screen along with the silver. that's why we have the green,blue,red numbers system and the wings.

you play to win the game! I don't see anyone standing in spot as they are reloading so why is running way for fire a "noob" move if that's the case then so be it I will be a noob 4 ever. I've never been one to use the gnasher more then my lancer. sorry it's just the way I play! at least you onyxed a weapon. I think my gnasher is at 900 right now!

if enough ppl complain epic can probably change it, gears 3 seems to be a lot more dynamic in making changes than Reach did.

Well i look like a noob for missing, when i actually didnt. I feel embarrassed when i try to shoot someone with a SOS and it doesnt kill them, i just wait for people to tell me how i suck after a moment like that. LOL

If you're buying the launch skins, make sure to do it before February is up, and that you are in the Live Rewards club so you get the 5% back on that purchase. It's only 90 points back, but it's an extra discount on a discount.

Also, I could immediately tell the difference between Bronze and Gold Wings, without even needing to see the alternate icon.

But nobody cares about [your] Rank, so don't worry about it.
 
Technically, paying 160 for weapon skins is way too much. If you're buying several skins though, 1800 is probably the best idea.

The Haze Skin is stagnant and kind of dull. Oddly, it is more camouflage looking than the actual Camo Skin, though. I guess if someone had a 420 gamertag or was into weed and showing it off, they'd be appropriate, but I never really use them.

I have both Haze and Thunderstorm. I love Thunderstorm, use it on my shotguns. Haze i got free when it was listed as free when Gears came out. But its garbage, so dont think about getting it. LOL
 
why would 1800 be a better choice than 160 for weapon skins? you can only use one skin on a gun at a time, if thunderstorm is cool looking, I'd get that and be happy. 1800 for a bunch more that I'm not going to use is much more of a waste than 160...

but thanks, think I might get thunderstorm, or none of them. lol
 
Got gold medal in hammerburst today. 1,000 more retro lancer kills until i gold all 5 starting weapons and unlock gold miner and gold hunter. Cant say i would use them really, maybe gold hunter. But i love my kantus. Just like the way he is positioned, makes it easier for me to know where to aim my gnasher.
 
Got up to 21 Onyx Medals yesterday (Untouchable, Leader and something else), and I'm now less than 30 Execution matches from my 22nd.
 
i think a lot of ppl got Haze for free at launch for some strange reason. i got it, it looks good on the hammerburst and gnasher if you're going for a jungle cammo look.

That's why I stated several skins. If you're strictly buying just 1 set, then this is irrelevant, but my comments were aimed at people considering buying more than a few.

I just find from reading game forums that most people buy skins because they're bored of looking at their currently available skins, but they then get bored of looking at the new skins they bought, so they buy others. There's definitely people who don't follow this trend, but if you're already paying for skins, I can't see why you'd limit yourself.

My point is;
Animated weapon skins regularly cost 320 points.
320 x 5 = 1600
Static weapon skins regularly cost 240 points.
240 x 7 = 1680

If someone was interested in several weapon skins, they would benefit from just buying the 1800 pack simply because they're so close to hitting 1800, and would get more skins to select from anyway. I'm adamantly against buying any skins, but if you're going to start buying several that's why I'd currently recommend buying the 1800 point pack, since you'll get 90 points back next month.

1710 points for a large selection of weapon skins, both static and animated, is a lot up front, but would probably save people lots of points in the process.
