Gears of War 3 - Release Date Sept. 20

Can someone please explain to me how you can kill someone with a boomshot thats right next to you, but survive as the person shooting the boomshot? People seem to be able to shoot me close range and not die, however whenever i try, shooting the ground or person, i seem to die.
 
Finally got a chance to get back in the game and was excited when I read that it was gonna be a creepy crawly horde. Tickers, wretches, a few serapedes...maybe a corpser..what's the worst that could happen? This should be fun and easy...right?

O what fun and easy it was to be the last one standing, running around the map being chased by a serapede and a couple corpsers on round 11. My team-mates already downed by the tons of reavers, shriekers, wretches, tickers and bloodmounts.

Aim at the ground past the person you're trying to hit but close enough to kill them, you'll end up taking a lot of damage but surviving. Happens often enough I'd say.

It's a Digger and Boomshot playlist. Characters will also be wearing party hats.

And anyone who still needs to get their Re-Ups done, don't forget that the 5x XP Bonus is permanent for executions made in the game (at least in Versus and Horde).
 
Random question... I get a little lag sometimes when I play Gears 3 not really bad but its there. Its like really minor when I run or go into cover at times. Is that the norm or is my internet just shit? I assume the second because it does act up at times. pingtest and speedtest was fine but it still had some lag.

I do get the occasional hiccup. Not super often, though.

the digger is like a spam weapon; imho.
 
My Special Events counter is at 27 at the moment. I also need 4 more matches as a Zeta team member and to win a match on Jacinto. I'd love it if I could find a turbo controller that worked with the left stick so I could idle XP with it. But the preferred ones are so expensive since they're not made anymore.
 
I still have to grind heavy weapon kills. im at 2700/6000. The rest of the medals i can do AFK. Longest one is gunna be skunker or Wingman. Right now im doing TDM and i can get about 50 matches per 5 hours.

I should just take a break, ive been thinking of playing skyrim, but im so close to getting 3.0 i jut keep going after it.
 
I'm thinking of just doing KOTH or TDM and rack up kills along the way, since I have 2453 of KOTH and 2355 of TDM to do. Oh, and not to mention the 2435 I have to do of Warzone. UGH.

You should probably take a tiny break, 7th Number. I did and I'm sort of ready to go for Seriously 3.0 now entirely.

Oh, forgot to mention I got the "I Got This!" achievement. Had to do it against bots though.

Yeah, funny thing is i took time out to boost some medals like gnasher, reloading, etc. and found out im already getting them a second time just from playing normally. But i have been playing a ton of Guardian since its come back. But the last few days ive just been AFK letting the cpu play TDM matches. But heavy weapons is kind of a hard weapon to get kills with in regular games. Id be lucky to get 1 or 2 kills and thats IF that map actually has a heavy weapon.
 
For me to get Seriously 3.0 i need the following...

2,999 Heavy Weapon Kills
1,298 Skunkers
520 CTL matches
419 TDM matches
2,690 Wingman matches
577 Last man out ribbons
235 First blood ribbons
 
Is the Bang Bang playlist permanent now? I keep going back to it. Good way to rack up explosive kills since you don't have to hope you can grab a boomshot since you start with it. Also, matches go pretty fast for the most part. One more event away from Onyx!
 
I finally completed the Raam's Shadow DLC. Kind of a chore if you ask me. I still need to win a match on Jacinto to get my last Forces of Nature achievement, but I suspect that'll take a while.

EDIT:
Got my Force Multiplayer Achievement thanks to some randoms on Ranked. I looked over my Weapon Skins and I didn't get my Ivory Skin Set. Bullshit Epic. Bullshit.

3 Achievements to go. None of them easy.

Just got my 58th onyx, TDM. I think ill start on Wingman next. Any tips to idle boost these types of matches?

From a little research it seems like this is the best way.

10 score limit
3 minute rounds
2 teams of COGS, if they are both COG they spawn closer together.
Insane bot difficulty
60 minute bleed out
Boomshot pickups

Seems like best case scenario would be getting 100 matches a day. Shit, this is gunna take me at least 30 days to onyx unless i actually play them.

Not really gears related, but anyone check out the Spec Ops the Line demo. Feels like Gears on earth with its pretty similar design. Controls felt good though I have to wonder about the story.

Yeah

- 3 bots (1 for you, 2 for the other team)
- All Weapon Spawns set to Boomshots (Nothing is also preferable since it makes the AI more aggressive, yet it's slower to kill you)
- 3 minute rounds (Sandbar and Academy are to blame for this)

This way you're boosting 300-350 matches every 24 hours. It's like pulling teeth. There's no easy way around it. It sucks. But you have to do it.

Yeah, ive been using 2 controllers that are idle vs 2 insane bots. Get about 100 matches a day so far. Im up to 504.
 
I'm just idle boosting TDM now. I can work on kills in KOTH and Warzone. I'm still below 30 Onyx Medals at the moment. It's...a grind. But I've gotten everything else out of the way and I'm still somewhat hopeful that Epic will modify all of the Medal requirements to half of what they are now (except the 30/60 needed for the 2 Special Medals).

Although, some setup methods for match types would be appreciated.

I can't recall if it was a live stream, or a twitter post or forum reply, but I seem to recall that Epic said they won't be reducing any of the medals anymore than they have. Since people have already begun unlocking Seriously 3.0, they feel it's attainable...and realistically, like the other Seriously, it's supposed to take a while to get.

If there's one Seriously I wish they'd update, it's Seriously... The fact that I genuinely don't know how close or far I am to it is such an obstacle to motivate myself to play for.
 
I grabbed "The Slab" for nook on Tuesday, got through the first 100 pages or so, then had to start over because I get Nevil (Adam's assistant) and Niles (the VI at the hall of spires) confused.

They're teasing how Adam and Myrrah came in contact and how Azura was built, but by 180 pages or so in, there hasn't really been any big reveal. I'm DYING to know about the Research Facility with the Spires and how Adam and Myrrah met. I don't need 10 page urban warfare scenes... Oy.
 
man i played some games for the first time in a week maybe. All i can say is it was full of lag. Try wall bouncing and you warp all over. I even played a match where a frag blew up, and after i was dead i heard the beeps. LOL.

Oh great. One of the TB tag events I got 7 MVPs in a row (8 win streak) and then another MVP loss.

I also have 28/30 (I think). How many events officially have counted towards the 30 so far? I'm pretty sure I missed a few especially if they were dlc related.


I played a few games yesterday and encountered the worst lag I ever experienced with Gears 3 when I decided to stop TDM and go to KOTH. It was the "chopping" and "jumping" kind. I did do well a few times since I got many chainsaw kills.

After a while I got into a match with "normal" slight lag.

Is Forces of Nature the last dlc? I'm still waiting for the pass to go on sale but if more dlc comes out...
 
Yup, dedicated servers my fucking ass. This games connection is so bad. I just joined a game where i was the last man left. I started shooting someone who was rushing me for 4-5 seconds in a straight line as i lancered him for the whole time. I got no stopping power, no damage being done. Dude just rushed me and shot me dead with one shot. WTF?!?!

But beside that, this game is so fucking annoying. Most of the time i die i feel like its the games fault. I had a game today where someone was retro charging me and i did my lancer chainsaw... now in theory chainsaw beats retro every time. But what happened was he bumped into me and i didnt chainsaw him at all. Apparently i cant hear nades land anymore. All i can hear are the beeps and explosions.

The game feels like i have to do twice or three times more damage to people as they have to do to me to down me. Ive gotten updated so many times today its not even funny. I dont know how they can say they have dedicated servers, it must be the cheapest dedicated servers they could have bought.

Did i mention that i shot a guy in the back and we traded kills? LOLWUT?

Oh and i planted a smoke nade and dude ran through it like it was never there. Love the inconsistencies in this game so much!

One more! I hip fired a mortar at someone and it landed right by him, he rushed through it, then i shot him in the face with my gnasher.... thats ok, apparently he is superman as he runs through all that and one shots me dead.

PS.... Sawed offs are not supposed to be able to kill from 5-10 feet away... someone needs to tell my connect that because it happens tooooooooooo often.

The servers possibly being down is one problem, but the real issue is that players from Mexico and their shitty connections are now in every game.

I even tried going into Ranked and it was even worse. A team of level 200+ players who just murdered my team of same skilled players because 6 gnasher shots wasn't downing, heads running over planted frags and living, retro and lancer fire being 100% useless and other garbage like being shot behind cover and 1 shotted by a single melee attack. That no DLC playlist seemed like the only safe refuge, I played it for over an hour and the games were mostly fine.

I just hope Epic fixes this mess soon but to be honest, the community isn't upset enough at the current state of online play.
 
It would probably help if they got rid of a few of the playlists. Right now we have 8 in standard, and 8 in FON. Then all of those are broken down into ranked or casual. So thats splitting their users into 32 different directions. This isnt Call of Duty where that is really possible. The less number of players in a playlist, the worse the connection is going to be. At least thats what ive always believed.
 
yup, noticed the same lag issues. sucked badly; teleporting, desynced inputs with video and audio...multiple WTF reactions.

on the upside, torque bow tag gave me my 30th special event! woot!

on the downside, my (ramdoms) team went 1-50 in horde straight in one-sitting, but we couldn't beat wave 50 for dear life. host decided to quite after what seemed like over 10 attempts by 3:30 in the morning. when the brumak was able to enter the main building in mercy; we were toast.
 
somehow got the Socialite achievement. Also it seems only those with dlc (or latest dlc) can play the actual event playlists. I'm pretty sure that's Epic's doing and not M$ being greedy.

I have no idea why there is a TDM No DLC playlist, making 3 TDMs while eveything else has only 2.

Also Player's Choice is dumb. If anything there should be a voting system unless they've changed that since I last played months ago.

Since the first dlc came out, I'm sure I've been stuck on player host which I never get (is there a way like in 2 to check like no melee after round etc?)
 
No idea about host, i tried throwing a smoke to see if it spun around when i was put into a game with all bots but it didnt. Though sometimes it did feel like i had a better gnasher than usual, but not all the time. That was a while back though.

Does anyone know whats up with this pink/purple tiger stripe skin? Ive seen a few people using it and i really dont remember it being available, unless its a free weekend skin, but when i looked for a special one i didnt see anything. Maybe i just dont remember it being available for purchase?

Oh, and my FLAK skin still hasnt unlocked, even though i got the achievement on the first day.

Wait, I don't understand...

I was able to get Event Ribbons without having to actually play the specific events. I even would get the ribbons from playing games of Beast Mode (all of them were public, online games). Did they change this setup?

my theory is, currently all the events (socialite achievement) are w/DLC maps and modes...making it impossible for him to actually be rotated into one of them to complete.

That's happened to me too, but I don't think it's consistent. There have been other times where I had to play the actual event before the ribbon would pop.
 
I don't have any of the (paid) dlc and I have 30 event ribbons (all legit no glitch counts). I've noticed that I receive credit for an event even if I don't play a game of the event playlist.
