Guitar Hero II - General Disscusion - Indie Pack #2 - 3 Songs Up Now

Holy crap, with the new controller, dlc, it looks like I am just gonna have to wait for the 360 version. Hopefully, it will be early 2007 (I'm talking January early).

holy crap ive been waiting for this day for a long long long ass time. I will without a doubt be getting this. Ive even contimplated getting a ps2 just to play guitar hero 2 but now huzzah here it is hot damn.

I was thinking about getting a PS2 to play GH1! It's definitely gonna be worth the wait. Major Nelson's site says there should be a video for this at www.xbox.com sometime today.

Now my question...does it run on AA batteries, or will it come with a usb plug to charge it?
Bad news from Major Nelson
To be clear, the guitar I am wearing DOES have a wire...it's just not showing up well in this photo. Not sure what the plans are for wireless and the people from Guitar Hero were not talking.
Sold, this is excellent news. Now I can wait on buying Guitar Hero 2 for PS2 and get the 360 version when it comes out.

Major Nelson tried it out and it turns out its a wired controller:

Xbox Live's favorite, Major Nelson, reported back from X06 after trying out Red Octane's version of Guitar Hero for Xbox 360.

He got to rock out with the X360 version of the sweet axe ripping sim complete with an X360 version of the Guitar Hero controller. Turns out that assumptions that the guitar controller would be wireless are wrong.

According to Major Nelson: "The guitar I am wearing DOES have a wire....Not sure what the plans are for wireless and the people from Guitar Hero were not talking."

IGN contacted a rep from Red Octane who confirmed that the "initial guitar controller for the X360 will be wired." The "initial" controller? Perhaps, wireless rockers can hold on to a bit of hope.

I don't know what to think now:

Xbox version features wireless Gibson X-Plorer controller and downloadable content
Words: Dan Amrich

Activision let it slip earlier in the week that Guitar Hero II would be coming to multiple platforms, but today we've got proof - a few early screens and a photo of the new controller for the Xbox 360 edition. The 360-appropriate white X-Plorer controller will work just like the PS2 version with the addition of being wireless. The controller is an update to the classic Gibson Explorer solidbody guitar, made famous by (among other players) The Edge of U2.
No mention of online multiplayer makes cheapy a sad man.
They said at E3 that they'll probably never have online because of lag issues that would screw up the game, which is interesting because Amplitude was online and played very well.

The hardest part will be avoiding the ps2 version till the 360 version comes out. From the impression saying the video was off of the music at times and the guitar controller that looks un-finished i.e. has a guide button and d-pad that dont work, lacking colors and wireless or not. Im figureing a release of next year.

From the chipping on that strum bar, I'd say that that model's seen some use.

The d-pad/guide button are awesome, though. I just hope I can wait the extra months it takes to get to 360.

guys wired guitar good:
-Hopefully drivers come out and youi can use it on your computer
-USB to PS2 adapter, for those who still want the original game
-USB extension cords can be dirt cheap
-Cheaper cost
They should have online coop/multiplayer w/ Live camera support
This is a good idea, however, if it does end up going online, I don't think Guitar Hero II would support this. The major concern right now is lag, and camera support certainley wouldn't make this any easier on the developers.
Here's why we won't be rockin' without a wire:

It basically says MS hasn't shared it's wireless 2.4 GHz protocol with RO. They do say that if they do get some help we'll get one down the line.
I'm really torn about this game. On the one hand, the Playstation version will have wireless but no downloadable songs. On the other hand, the 360 version will have downloadable content but a wired controller. Plus, microtransactions on XBL haven't proven to be CAG friendly and I'm concerned these idiots will try to charge way more money for songs than they are worth. As much as I am interested in this game I think I am going to wait and see how things play out.

I swear, I hate the uncertainty that shrowds the game industry right now.

Yeah, if I'm getting the 360 version of Guitar Hero 2, which will probably cost $70+, I don't want a wired controller. Down the line, I'm sure they'll release one, and I don't want to have to pay extra for it.

Well, if nothing else, I don't really forsee the price of the game (if you wanna resell it) going down anytime soon. I'm likely going to buy GHII (game only) and then sell that w/ GH1/Geetar when the 360 version comes out (contingent upon GH1 tracks being available for the 360).

I gotta play the Spinal Tap track, dammit.

MS hasn't shared it with anyone, which is why you don't see 3rd party wireless pads.

However, unless MS is fucking retarded, they will help RO out here.

Don't people PLUG IN guitars to amps anyways? As long as the wire can be disconnected from each end would be nice or make it 10+ feet long at the very least.

Awesome. Added to the op. I'll have to get one of these some day, probobly not at launch but definately looking forward to picking one up.

Sweet. Wireless or not, I've gotta get my Guitar Hero fix. GH is the only non next-gen stuff I play nowadays. Can't wait.

I just wish they'd combine Guitar Hero 1 and 2 together, that would be the ultimate package, and I could get rid of both of them for the PS2 ;)
I just wish they'd combine Guitar Hero 1 and 2 together, that would be the ultimate package, and I could get rid of both of them for the PS2 ;)
That would be nice. One of the truly compelling possibilities of DLC is that you could have one huge mega-game featuring the songs from GH, GH II, and brand new stuff.

They'll probably gouge everyone on the DLC, but honestly I think the convenience may be worth it. IMO, the value of an all-in-one package is more than the combined value of both games purchased separately. The ability to access all songs without switching games is worth a trade-off. Of course it would be great if they make it cheap, but if you end up basically paying for two games then at least I could understand the rationale.

yeah, if they make the GH1 songs available to DL for like $1 each or 50 MS points something I'd definitely buy them over time. I want to get rid of my GH1 and 2 and the PS2 controller so I can get this.

This could be potentially awesome if they add different songs than GH 1&2, or at least download new songs that haven't come out yet. I am still a little upset that GH2 came with a red guitar, similar to the limited edition cherry guitar that came out last year. You think they could have used a different color.

I have heard rumors of this in the Game mags as well. (GameInformer, EGM, Gamepro) So i dont think its bull. Its just a matter of time really. But thats the only reason my PS2 has stayed around as long as it is has. I Just hope they add Downloadable content to it and no just port it over like they did with Smackdown Vs Raw 07 and have no new features. Also there is actually a guitar on the market right now thats wireless for around 50 Bucks. Not a bad investment if your into wireless technology now.

Ditto

I can't wait for this to come out and if they do include Gh1 songs that would be even better. I held off on buying this one for PS2 not to mention most stores kept selling out of it.

lol @ a song costing less than a picture pack, I expect no less than $2 a song.

anyway I think it was confirmed you can download the previous songs for the 360 version.

Ever since I heard about Guitar Hero for 360 I've been thinking about getting rid of my copy of the first one for PS2 and my guitar. Now that I know its the second one I'm glad I kept my ps2 stuff cause I like the songs from the first one much more.
