Guitar Hero II - General Disscusion - Indie Pack #2 - 3 Songs Up Now

as much as I'd like it anyway, online play would be pretty broken.

There's always some lag when you play online. FPS, GoW and other action games can get away with-- it's simply not as obvious in shooter (until the lag gets really bad.)

but GH requires precision and any amount of lag throws it off, making the match effectively broken. It's the same reason Tekken and VF developers are against online play for their games, and why DoA can work (to an extent)-- DoA doesn't require as much precision, so the game is still very playable online (though there are some higher level techniques that won't work online.)

I think I may pass on this game. I've been playing a ton of GHII on PS2 and it's just too hard for me. I can play a lot of these somgs on a real guitar much easier. The Medium difficulty is way too easy but the Hard difficulty is way too hard. I cannot get past "Woman" by Wolfmother and I've tried about a bazillion times.

Practice makes perfect, just like real guitar. Of course if you're going to put tons of time and effort into perfecting fake guitar songs, you may as well buy a real guitar and put time and effort into perfecting real guitar songs.

It sucks that they're bumping up the price due to the success it's been having. I guess I'll still pay the premium since I don't own a PS2, though. $150 plus tax to be able to play this game with a friend is a lot. And it's ridiculous that they're charging so much and the controller is still not wireless.
it's only 10 bucks more than the ps2 version....just like any other next gen game...i don't get the fuss about that?
True, but once the numbers get up there... it's hard to justify them squeezing $10 more outta it.
LOL @ $60 for a wired guitar
Is there a chance by April we could see a cheaper 3rd party guitar controller? Or maybe even a wireless one?

10 dollars more than the ps2 version for exclusive tracks/dlc and acheivements i think is worth it.

I have sold my PS2 along time ago(when I got my xbox) so I have been holding out for thsi game. The $10 +tax hurts...but its the same with every other nxt gen game.

the 360 version of Guitar Hero 2, should run perfectly on HDTV's right?

I only ask because of how my PS2 version runs on my LCD TV. The game does have the option to calibrate lag, but it still stutters sometimes.

You should be able to match the native resolution, yes. If you have an older LCD with a really high response time, there may be a very small amount of lag, but nowhere near the PS2 version and probably not even enough to throw you off.

There is something in the new OXM, a rumor apparently (according to LinkinPrime) that the Halo Theme will be one of the downloadable tracks for GH 2.

That would be insane.

Just like the Mega Man theme was supposed to be in the PS2 version? ;)

Just pre-ordered from Red Octane's site. Free shipping, no tax, and a free guitar bag took some of the sting out of the $90 purchase.

Great interview...was interested most in these parts:
YVG: Another staple for Xbox 360 is online play. What's the status on that?

BL: Initially there won't be multiplayer co-op, because we don't ever want to rush anything. With online multiplayer, you'd need to synch up audio and have no lag time. That's really difficult to have in this type of game. That's not to say we won't be able to implement it later on. We want it just as much as everyone else wants it. It's just a matter of getting it down and fine-tuning it.
What we will have is online leaderboards. We're planning to have both weekly and monthly updates. It's similar to what you'd get from online multiplayer. If you'd play online multiplayer in faceoff, you're starting the song at the exact same time, ending at the same time, and playing the same thing. The only interactivity you'd be missing is trash-talking while you're jamming through the song. At the end of the day, you want a score and to see how good you are compared to other people.

YVG: It's honestly surprising to see a chord attached to the X-Ploder controller, seeing how wireless leaning Xbox 360 is.

BL: Why are we having a wired guitar? Electric guitars are wired! As gamers ourselves, wireless is something we'd love to have. Hopefully we can have it soon for everyone. If you look at the PS2 version, we came out with a wireless guitar as well. It happened a little bit later, but at the same time we put out a product that we thought was good enough for the game.

good news...thanks cheapy...after using some deciphering tools i was able to translate that interview into we are going to give you what you want at a later point in time for a fee...what we are releasing soon is to wet your appettite

my mistake, thanks violentlee I just read the last post..

Cool. Nothing most of us weren't expecting as far as a wireless guitar, but nice to see the talk about a download for online play isn't necessarily just overzealous daydreaming.

VL - if you can edit that story....it's "Gibson X-Plorer," (or Gibson Explorer for the original name) not "Gibson X-Ploder."

I can't personally edit, but I can ping my editors on the typo. Good lookin' out!

Hmm. Didn't notice the guitar names, though I did notice that you may have been thinking in a guitar frame of mind a bit much b/c you used "chord" when referring to the 360 Guitar's "cord." Just a lil' thing (forgive me, I do a lot of copyediting and tend to notice that sort of thing).

Silly me mixing up a guitar's cord with its chord. Again, submitted to my editor. Thanks.

Any word on an a PS2 to 360 adapter for those of us that already have 2 guitars?? I badly want this for 360, but don't want to have to purchase another guitar to play it.

GameCrazy has officially stopped preorders on this. They've lowered the price to a penny in the system and no more orders can be taken, since it requires a $5 minimum deposit.

Just curious...is anyone going to wait on this to see if a wireless guitar gets released? (i know it would have to be by MS, since they have the exclusive rights....not even sure if they can do that though).

I never played Guitar Hero, curious if I'd like it....most people seem too. I have credit to burn at GameRush.

I'd like to know this too, I'm keeping my PS2 guitars since my system is modded and I can play the hacked versions.

I'd rather not have 4 Guitar hero guitars.

Don't take this as any hard evidence of anything, but a friend was just asking me about the 360 GHII. Apparently, he picked up Fu Manchu's new album the other day ("We Must Obey"), and a sticker on the shrinkwrap said "featuring "Hung Out to Dry" as featured in Guitar Hero."

Hmmm...I dunno what to think about that.

Was the Mega Man theme played by Stevie motherfucking Vai? No? I didn't think so.

Stevie motherfucking Vai is a complete cheeseball.

sorry.

carry on.

i'll be adopting the wait-and-see approach.

Just curious what this means on Gamestop's product page for GH 2?

Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 gets turned up to 11 with its downloadable content on Xbox Live. Grab new songs, themes, and picture packs off Xbox Live! Check where you rank on the Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 Leaderboard, or play any of the 12 songs that are available for download.

?????

has anyone ordered from redoctane before? If so how good are they about shipping the right product to you in a timely manner?

I ordered the special edition Cherry SG when it came out (not the GH2 one). They were very good with shipping and I trust them so much I went for the Multiplayer bundle.

Very tempting...but $148.XX hurts my wallett right now.

It would be cool to get it early though:

Your free gig bag may be shipped out with your order of Guitar Hero II prior to the launch date 4/3/2007 so you may receive your order by or after the launch date of 4/3/2007. We will ship out your order as early as possible so you will be one of the first to receive this product.

Possibly...

Alright, so can someone help me catch up a bit here (I know my "I'm IGNORANT!!" posts in this forum are getting old--I'm trying to get up to speed as quickly as I can. ;) ).

According to the lists in the first post, GH2 is going to have 74 songs (some unlockable), plus whatever tracks they may throw up on the marketplace to buy, is that right? And the original GH had like, what 30 something? I played through the "normal" mode on the first GH and really liked it, but ditched my PS2 before I played anymore.

I'm really tempted to get in on the RedOctane "You might get it early!" deal, but I dunno yet. $90 is a hard pill to swallow, but at more than 70 songs, it's certainly tempting.
