Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - 8/21 Dragonforce Track Pack
OK, so I beat One and Number of the Beast today after finishing Cliffs of Dover yesterday. Now I'm stuck on Raining Blood.

Are there any tips to get past the mosh at the beginning? It doesn't look like I can build up star power to help me, as I did for the fast solos in One.

If it's a matter of just slugging away in practice then I'm game. I just wanted to see if there's anything I'm overlooking first.

Edit: Bah! I suppose I should mention I'm on the hard career.
Make sure to get the first two star powers before the Mosh, which will help a little. Otherwise, you just gotta practice.

I practiced the MOsh itself a ton and didn't really get a whole lot better. Then I just decided to practice the full song (minus The Calm) a few times, and that helped me immensely. I think hearing/playing more than just the mosh helped me get the rythm down for the mosh and allowed me to pass it. Also, you really don't want to pass the mosh and then fail on something else.
the dlc (or lack of) depresses me.
Yea, once again GHIII is really behind with the DLC times. Rock Band has songs lined up every week and you know they aren't going to stop that trend anytime soon. They have really cornered the market on how to do DLC.

The thing I dont get is how could GHIII make the same mistake they made with GHII DLC especially with RB on the way.

I'm not sure how GHIII doesn't have a bunch of bands lined up for DLC. It is a perfect form of marketing for groups to get their music out to a new audience. There are so many options to explore with product and pricing. Why not do one new song for free from an artists new album with 2 or 3 classic tracks from them available as a bundle? It seems like marketing 101,
but maybe its not as easy as we think.

That said, I'm stuck about 40 songs into Hard and I dont know if I'm going to ever get through. I think I've reached the point where the game becomes, as Shipwreck said on CAGforeplay, "a bunch of notes flying by". Frustrating!

Now the fact that there is no co-op career over XBL really gets me!

They've vastly outsold Rock Band, so I don't think they feel any pressure to put out DLC.

I do wish we'd see a pricing structure like RB ($5.50 or so for a 3-pack, $0.99-1.99 per individual song, compared with $6.25 for any 3-pack, and $2.50 for every song, irrespective of whether it's an indie nobody or a major hit), though. But Rock Band is not the market leader here, Guitar Hero is. They don't have to do shit, in their opinion.

Probably too busy signing product placement contracts for GH4 to release any DLC. I can't wait to play the final tier of songs ("I Wish I Were an Oscar Meyer Weiner," "I'm a Toys R' Us Kid," "The 1-800-SAFE-AUTO Jingle," "That Goddamned Annoying Ass FreeCreditReport.com Jingle") at the Dunkin' Donuts/GEICO arena in GH4. Woohoo!

(Don't get me wrong, RB has product placement, but at least it's relevant: Fender guitars, ludwig drum kits, etc. Not the Axe Body Spray fuckin' Dancers).

Very good points. The funny thing is even as everyone bitches about the DLC that has been released, those GHI song packs sold well. Well enough that they didn't feel compelled to change up the formula much for GHIII.

They might be the leader now, but how many plastic guitars do people need? At some point people are going to have to decide if they want to shell out $50-60 for GHIV or some GH spin off release every 6-9 months or spend selectively on only the downloadable songs that they want.

Actually, based on the success both GH & RB have had it might be irrelevant because there is enough demand for these types of games that both will still flourish for the foreseeable future.

Bingo. They'll sell like those "Now That's What I Call _____" music compilations. There's no shortage of awesome songs for either series, so it's not like it will get tired after GH4, like Activision did with the Tony Hawk series.

I do think, however, that an entire GH game devoted to Aerosmith is one of the worst imaginable ideas I've heard. I'd rather play Guitar Hero: Yacht Rock Edition.

C'mon, pink isn't your favorite color?
But seriously, I can not stand playing the Aerosmith songs in Guitar Hero.

I think they exhausted the good Aerosmith songs in GHII and III (whatever they were, I can't remember). Aerosmith would be a legendary band if they all up and died after their self-titled album, Get Your Wings, and Toys in the Attic happened.

But do you *really* want to play "Dude Looks Like a Lady" and their umpteen 1990's ballads? Like fuckin' 30 of them? For $50? I didn't think so. Be ye warned: you may want GH: Aerosmith, and if you do, wait three weeks before you buy it. It's destined for the fast-track to the clearance rack.

I'm amazed they went with the Aerosmith tracks that they did. I wish they'd throw in Walk This Way, especially if it's the version featuring Run DMC.

But an "All Aerosmith, All the Time" version of GH does seem a bit overkill.

I feel shitty even asking this, but is there some secret to getting better at this game other than practice?

I can five star easy, get 3-4 stars on medium, but can only beat one track on hard.

I use four fingers and can't decide if its easier to "stretch" my pinky to reach the orange button (which ends up in my pushing blue) or to shift my four fingers down which confuses the hell out of me trying to get back to green.

Any advice? I was like this in GH2 (quit after beating medium) and now I'm frustrated again on GH3 (stuck on hard).
Thanks, guess I just need to practice a few songs to get use to it.
I just started on Hard. I played 1 song with stretching the pinky, but I have a feeling I'll be shifting before too long.

This game needs more Amon Amarth.

The jump from medium to hard is by far the hardest. I would say that you are not close to ready for hard untill you can five star all of medium except maybe a few songs. Play through medium again and try to improve your score on every song, then go for five stars. When I finally went to hard in GHII I got stuck about 8 songs in and ended up replaying the easiest songs over and over again and five starred most of them which helped me get used to the fingering. So once you are good enough for hard maybe play the first two sets for awhile till you get used to moving your hand up and down.

Thanks...I got to the point where I have almost 5-starred/perfect everything on easy. I'll go back through medium and see what I can do!

When I first started having to hit the orange button in GH1, I was doing the pinky stretch to reach it. It worked pretty until I got used to shifting my fingers back and forth; ultimately, you'll want to work up to being able to slide your fingers back and forth and be comfortable with where they are at all times. Doing the stretch until you reach that point is a good start, though.

You might try starting with your index finger on red and your pinky on orange, stretching your index finger to reach green; your index finger has a lot more dexterity than your pinky, so you might find it easier to do the stretch with that finger. Then again, there tend to be more green notes than orange notes, so it's a toss-up.

I find now that I tend to keep my index, middle, and ring finger on red, yellow, and orange respectively. I use my pinky to hit orange when it comes up, and I shift to place my index finger on green, middle finger on red, and ring finger on yellow when I need to hit a stretch of those notes. Overall, I'm mainly using my first three fingers and shifting a lot instead of using my pinky, unless the notes are really fast; some sections do require all four fingers.

Experiment with different styles and do what feels the most comfortable for you.

Thanks RedOctane.

In the face of DLC juggernaut known as Rock Band you ignore the fan outcry for more downloadable songs, but instead going for an Aerosmith expansion. I want to believe it isn't true, but the lack of downloadable content AGAIN isn't giving me much hope for the franchise, especially when passed to Neversoft. So I'm gonna be able to play the whole goddamn Alicia Sivlerstone music video trilogy AKA songs that ALL really sound the friggin damn same.

Goddamn it, if these rumors are true I damn well better be getting an all out metal expansion or better yet a full on Dethklok version. I'd easily shell out $60 for that. If somehow Rock Band does this instead of GH, I say final nail in the coffin of the GH franchise for me.

I disagree. Getting a lot better at medium won't help too much for hard, since you can play medium without moving your hand and having to move your hand is mostly what makes hard more difficult.

It took me forever to make the jump, but ultimately it comes down to practice. Just keep trying to play the songs from hard and eventually you'll get used to moving your hand.

Moving your hand is probably the best strategy, the second-best strategy is stretching with your index finger (between red and green); stretching with your pinky is the hardest thing to do. That said, most people (myself included) seem to start out stretching the pinky, then move to stretching the index, and then finally move to moving the whole hand as needed.

Alicia Silverstone's still hot. PETA ad, anyone?

Correction. Alicia Silverstone was never hot.

As for the rumored 4 releases this year, I'll bite. I'd much rather be able to find a deal on them and physically own something I can sell down the line than own a bunch of 1s and 0s and can't do dick with.

Very true, however, I still think the utter lack of d/l content is pretty shitty during the meantime before expansions come out. At least give us like one new song a week, that is enough to even keep me happy/show some support for GH 3

IMO she was never hot. Now, the girl in your sig is a different story

Finally picked up some Microsoft Points, so I'll probably pick up a couple of the new DLC songs.

I'm bummed out that I can't get Mastodon separately.

How are the Foo Fighters songs? Is it all chords and up/down strumming?
How are the Foo Fighters songs? Is it all chords and up/down strumming?
Pretty much chords. IMO, This is a Call has some tricky fingering. I've found all the songs to be fun to play, though.

hey guys, i got that german song, Die Fantastischen Vier | Ernten was wir säen from the downloads and its probably in my opinion, one of the top 5 songs in the game. Its fun to play and it sounds awesome. My question is, are the other 2 german songs fun also? I have every downloadable content except for those other 2 german songs. I'm wondering if they are fun unlike most of the other downloadable songs. (3 kings is awesome too)

I'm gonna play through as many as I can on the hard difficulty, then sell this shit. I doubt there's going to be any good dlc anytime soon. :bomb:

Same with GHII.

Regardless, there's massive amounts of airbrushing and touching up done in that "photo." I'd hardly consider it as evidence for either camp.

I'm really not digging the present DLC, other than the freebies; which are okay. I envy Rock Band's "Interstate Love Song." Stone Temple Pilots is one of my favorite bands. I guess it's time to get Rock Band. x_0

Amen on that, although I'm keeping GHII. I'm now squarely in the Rock Band camp as it just presents a better all around experience. One run through on hard for GHIII and back to Goozex it goes.

Just curious on why you're keeping II but not III.

Have any CAGs been able to beat Mastodon on Expert? I love the song so much, but I can't for the life of me get past Drizzle 1, even with full star power. My fingers just act retarded, and I've tried practicing. I fail at 86% everytime.

I've seen the YouTube video where somebody FC'ed it, but that didn't really help :p
Just curious on why you're keeping II but not III.
I like the song lineup. Freebird as an ending song is worlds more relevant to guitar than Devil Went Down To Georgia. I get why they did it, but still. Plus, I've kept it this long and the value I get from keeping it outweighs for me whatever cash I'd get for it.

GHIII on the other hand, I can play through that and get some value out of getting rid of it as it's still pretty current.

Okay, I'm gonna go and say it. I hate the Les Paul. I want to love it, it feels great on the fingers compared to the X-plorer plus better design. Last week though I got my replacement and just a few days ago, it fucks up again, this time worse. None of the fret buttons respond after awhile and i've detached and reattached the damn thing over and over again, but it's still a friggin piece of shit. So now I'm gonna possibly return it again or just give up and fix it myself.

All i know is Guitar Hero 4 better get rid of this goddamn detachable neck BS because I blame that as main problem for majority of them being a piece of crap.

I love my Les Paul to death. That is all.

I tried TTFAF on medium last night. Failed at 22%. I think I'm pretty much done with this game.:D I like Lacuna Coil, but that song by them sucks, too. My left hand was getting a little cold, though (poor circulation?), so I'm blaming my failure on that.
I love my Les Paul to death. That is all.
I wish I could say that...

Ass

Though at least I still got the love of my Kramer.
I've beaten sleeping giant on expert, have it 5 starred too. The end is pretty rough thats for sure.
Any tips for the last 15% of the song? (insane drizzle pull offs)

I was on the fence about whether to breeze through medium or to go through hard and get stymied at the end, but medium was just too easy for me to go through with.

So, I'm up to tier 6 on hard and I'm dreading the end of this game. I haven't been challenged so far, but I'm guessing those last few songs really ramp up the difficulty.

(BTW, thanks to all the boss mode comments on stacking powerups, I beat Tom & Slash in about a minute each doing just that)
