Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

If it's ANYTHING like the Shitty Anime they released for PSO2, they can keep it...
ugh that anime is pretty awful. I prettymuch just want to punch every character in the face on that. Its only rivaled by ajin for me. where the one kid character is the sole likable character while everyone else including the main is a sociopath.

You can turn off motion controls in Splatoon fyi
Yeah, I knew that. Everyone was talking about how good the motion controls where, so I gave them a go. My complaint there was that I tried that for aiming and I din't care for it, not that the game didn't offer another option, which it does. I was just pointing out that if SFZ works similar to that, I won't like it.

Preordered the TMS CE from gamestop. Hopefully Amazon puts it up soon as I'd like some free shipping. Too bad Bestbuy isn't getting it =/

Gotcha. I always turn off motion controls ASAP. People who claim they're better in anything are liars.

Resident Evil Umbrella Corps Confirmed Release For Exclusive Asia Physical Version
http://www.play-asia.com/resident-evil-umbrella-corps-confirmed-release-for-exclusive-asia-physical-versi/5f/747lb
JUST CONFIRMED: Western and Japanese Versions of Umbrella Corps will be CODE-IN-BOX - there will be no physical disc with purchase.
The Asia Edition of Umbrella Corps is the only Physical Version available; much like previous Capcom Asia releases, this title will also feature English and Japanese language options: Speech, Text, Menus, and Subtitles!
I was interested in this game as one of the few people who actually enjoyed Operation Raccoon City. However,I won't be buying the Western release. I'm not supporting this new idiotic "code-in-box" sales model. Probably will hold off on the Asian version too, at least until the price drops significantly. Crapcom...

Those of you who complained about not getting the advertised figure with Bravely Second, who did you complain to? Your store, or is there an email address, or...?

It is news to me to hear Capcom is doing a download voucher for Umbrella Corps.  Will there not be DLC to hide on the disc and charge money to unlock?

Is the file size so small that a blu-ray isn't worth the effort?  If so, I would be wiling to buy a digital Vita version if that one has offline bots.

Glad I'm not the only one who likes to go I to games blind, especially Zero Time Dilemma. I haven't even seen the box art that people are raving about.

I normally suck at rhythm games, but putting almost a hundred hours into Dancing All Night has improved me quite a bit. I'm now getting King Crazy on many songs on All Night difficulty.

I will say that the boxart is really fuck ing awesome...but I won't post it again. I just don't need to watch anything regarding ZTD because I enjoyed 999 and Virtue's Last Reward so much that I have zero (pun totally intended) doubt that it will be amazing.

Speaking ZTD, I'm interested in the series given I like Danganronpa a lot, so I've got a question regarding 999. How long does playing through each ending take? And did it get repetitive or not too bad? Gracias

It gets pretty repetitive in 999. It doesn't take all that long to play through each ending, which helps. But the original DS version does require that your re-play from the beginning, which can get tedious. In Virtues Last Reward they added tools for choosing which point in which branch to start from, which drastically reduced overall time spent back-tracking.

that's good to hear regarding the sequel. I'll probably give the original a go over the summer and go from there, thanks!

If you want to get through it faster there is the iOS version which cuts out the puzzles. I haven't played that version so I can't speak for it but it's an option if you want it.

IIRC 999 let you fast skip over previously read text, so the repeated sections weren't that big of a deal. I somewhat prefer playing though VN's like this, so when you hit new scenes you're fully aware of what's happening on the current run.

Anyone actually recommending the iOS version deserves a special place in hell. Content is cut and shoehorned onto a platform the game was never meant to play on. I can't imagine how they could possibly subtlety recreate...
nope, I'm not going to say it, even in a spoiler box
