Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

Has anyone's order for Stranger of Sword City CE shipped from Amazon yet? Mine is still in the "shipping soon" phase since last week. I just want to make sure I get this since I cancelled this at the NISA store.

Yep. Shipped yesterday and arriving tomorrow from UPS.

 
I don't know if anyone was waiting for it (I was) but BestBuy listing for Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate is up there. I doubt it will be stocked at BestBuy stores so order up if you're GCU.

Mine from the NISA online store came today and was well packaged and undamaged.

I'm very curious to know how Amazon will ship them. I don't have Prime right now, but if I could save 20% off NISA LE's and TMS it might be worth it. In the past Amazon has always destroyed most things I've ordered from them though.

Mine did. Was weird though, they charged me back on like Saturday but it was sitting as not yet shipped till this morning.

Was worried they caught on to the double 20% i got on it lol

Yeah and people would actually play the games they bought and received as gifts. If I had a WiiU I would eventually get that game nonetheless. I have been bad at playing and just collecting, but i'm trying to turn that around. All I know is the Vita releases are dwindling and I'm getting all those ones I want...like Shiren and that Exist Archive and well that's pretty much it for the Vita for me on the Horizon with Stranger coming in soon.

I honestly had a tough time playing Dragon's Crown on the Vita so an action heavy game like Odin Sphere will be better for me on PS4 with better graphics and better controls. Just my humble opinion of course.

 
Thanks for all the replies everyone. I just checked my bank account and saw that I was finally charged. It's still set for coming in tomorrow. Now I'm crossing fingers that the box won't be too damaged.

My sentiments exactly. I'm just happy that we're getting games localized. ppl need to go browse porn or something. Or else buy the JP versions if it's so important to them.

The relentless crying over the taming down of suggestive cartoon girls shows how people have real personal issues and no actual problems at the same time.

 
When all your Amazon Stranger of Sword City LE arrives, I'll be curious to here about packaging, as I don't expect that to end well, but I hear the art book is big and heavy, so they may package in boxes(doubtful though).

I personally understood censorship ages ago, as it had and needed to be done. As there was no rating system at a time, and no way to block content. But now, why have such good parental controls on a system, and still modify content? Seems like a waste of time and money to me, but whatever.

That's what's funny to me, they themselves are telling us that the rating system is fucking useless. Because either lil kids are getting their hands on games they shouldn't or worse, they think that 13 or 17 year olds aren't supposed to know what the woman's body looks like.

If FF7 came out today with the whole honeybee inn section removed, people would have thrown a fit. A lot of us were kids before having constant access to information was available. Ignorance is bliss.

We also had a time where there was no internet, and even though I have been importing almost as long as I've been gaming, there where some cultural difference that I understood changing as well. But now with the global market we now have, the lines of culture have been blurred for years. No one really cares about the content, they just want to play the games as they where intended to be played.

I just can't understand why they have all these forms of protection in place, and no one seems to use them. Every gamer in the world knows before a game is even released what and where changes are being made, and more often than not, videos show the changes as well. Anyone can view the changed content at anytime, so it seems a waste of time and effort to make changes, when anyone can view the content anyway.

 
The librarian in me just can never accept these unnecessary changes without complaint, especially when it's all about poor business decisions rather than actually trying to "fix" something. That's the problem with big companies like Nintendo or Capcom dealing in niche games. I mean TMS especially is very blatantly targeted towards otaku/weebs and the content they're changing/removing certainly does not bother most of that fan base. Instead they're trying to appeal to a wider base and avoid controversy. I mean ultimately I can understand why they make these decision so it bothers me more that we're at a point where it "needs" to happen. It just feels like we're regressing as a society.

What makes it worse is the "hurr durr just watch porn instead" argument, like it's not about having more skin in the games it's about having the games not be needlessly edited. I mean really, you could make that argument about countless literary classics (and people try) but that would be crazy.

Don't mistake my post as an endorsement, their food is average at best. Its definitely a last resort for me. Can't turn a corner without bumping into one though, dominance through convenience.

Obviously, people like me are pro-censorship too. We are all for the needless editing of suggestive content and have no comprehension of your viewpoint so it's best to keep explaining it over and over, day after day. :wall:

Well I just cancelled TMS so it won't give them that early sale which is most important.  Wasn't that excited after a while, and now I'm even less so.  Will just pick it up cheap or used later instead, since the Wii U is dead for me, and I need a game to make it feel like buying the system wasn't a total waste.

Nintendo is not going to find much money in the fanbase of "weebs who are disgusted by weeb things and want them removed from their weeb games." They chase this imaginary fanbase at their own peril.

Certainly cost them a sale from me, and I would have bought it entirely on impulse.
