Madden 11 League-OFFICIAL CAG LEAGUE-That's all folks! Mini-tourney still coming tho!
Yes, but not everyone subscribes to the idea that "stars" shouldn't be dealt, the concern seems to be more about perceived fairness based on the current ratings in the game....(Brian Orakpo, Terrell Suggs, Sam Bradford!?, Stephen Jackson) all of these players in real life are absolutely untouchable, outside of some sort of off the field scandal...but these are a few of the players actively being shopped here.

I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to these things and in my own personal opinion, it would be better if we had a trading block that closely resembles what would really happen in the NFL. I feel like a lot of the rosters could turn into something that resembles results from a fantasy draft and I am far more interested in sim-style, realistic moves being made.
You said exactly what I've been thinking and have been wanting to say since Trading Fever kicked off.
None of the current proposed trades I think are near unrealistic but, just due to the fact some members have been putting out their franchise-defining guys out there shows that they're more worried about achieving some vague and unreachable fantasy style team then playing and BUILDING a team.

I dont agree with trading stars for the sake of stacking draft picks or just because your team sucks. Obviously, that team will suck more without that player. To trade Brian Orakpo from the Redskins isnt as damaging as tradingJon Beason from the Panthers. I think the importance of a particular player to the team needs to be taken into consideration when making trades because there will be a lot of senseless trades just because a deal could be made. Not to call anyone out but Peyton Manning for Frank Gore just aint a sensible trade in my eyes cuz Peyton Manning is the Colts' offense. Reggie Wayne cant throw the ball to himself. It's these kinds of trades that need to be discussed because there are scenarios(a user's playing style mainly) that could warrant such a trade but to just trade a high profile player for another is just plain ridiculous.
Terrell Suggs was shooped in two of the past three seasons in real life...
No way they shopped the guy they made the highest paid defensive player in the league (at that time). Suggs is a cornerstone on the Ravens' D, maybe they fielded calls, but no way they actively sought a trade for him....NO WAY.

FYI: Matt Leinhart was officially released today by the Cards. I kinda hoped after several years under the tutelage of Warner he'd show the same drive that Rodgers had under Favre but, really he needs to go back to his frat house hot tub parties. I'm really curious how big of a asshole he really was.

i dont follow the Ravens... i bleed Carolina blue... so iono if they were actively shoppin him and i doubt that they actually sought a trade but his name was out there in back to back seasons and i think part of it was cuz he wanted a bigger contract. he's still a Raven so whatever happened happened, but he aint doin a damn thing for me right now so i can afford to let him go. Another user might actually play on the LB or the team just needs one period... so I can parlay Suggs into a player(s) that actually fills up the stat sheet and fills a hole in my gameplay... no homo lol
With the Tampa Bucs selecting LE Adewale Ogunleye and the Redskins taking CB Shawn Springs, the Minnesota Vikings are now on the clock.

The Bills sent me a list of players he wants. So Eagles, Chiefs, Lions, Bears stay on your toes today or send me a list of your own via PM.
could've used springs earlier today.

I'm running out the door so I only got to scan all that, but I feel like the peer/commish review will probably solve most of our problems themselves. I will address everything when I have a chance to sit down tomorrow or late tonight.

As for the FA draft, the Chiefs are taking DT Robertson. So the Lions are on the clock. Please make your pick.

Just wanna say, since kayholiday tried to contact me through this thread, that I can't really keep up with every single post in this thread(and I'm sure I'm not the only one either). If you wanna contact me, then pm'ing me through here or xbl is the best way. Especially through here if you see me online in the forums. I'm pretty quick to reply to pm's, and I'm sure there's some people here that can back me up on those claims.

ESPN's Ron Jaworski reports that the Ravens and Redskins have been in serious negotiations involving T. Suggs and L. Landry...

Trade Alert:

Ravens get: S LaRon Landry - 87
WR Devin Thomas - 74

Redskins get: LB/DE Terrell Suggs - 90
S Dawan Landry - 82

Is it like the cool thing to do in online games to randomly start off doing an onside kick like in the first quarter and then audible into a regular kickoff once they realize their opponent isn't retarded? I swear everyone I play (random people online) tries it at least once. That's so annoying...I wonder how many times that actually works, it just wastes time and is such a dousche thing to do (assuming they're trying to make their opponent use up a timeout if they don't know how to audible). If it wasn't for this league right here...I would have to assume every Madden player is a huge tool.

This is fine too me too, but I'm going to wait a day to officially approve it so other people can weigh in on it.

All the trades from this post here are good to go. I will update the OP for the picks owed and add/drop the players either tonight sometime or early tomorrow. It didn't seem like anyone had an issue with them.

RE: Trading picks. I don't see a huge problem with it. If someone takes over the Bucs, for example, I'm sure they would be happier to see Josh Freeman on the team than their 1st or 2nd round pick. And that's the kind of thing they would have to do to build now (they can also build through the draft mind you). I would 100x rather see people trade picks than superstars or cornerstone players. Please don't take that as a cue to start trading all your picks though. AND, you have to imagine if all these trades are being reviewed and approved that picks aren't just being given away. The team giving those picks up are improving themselves.

RE: Numbers of trades.
I think a good limit would be 2 or 3 'core player' trades per season. For example, the Skins trading Moss and Orakpo, and then now Landry. I would say they are done. I would count a 1st round pick as a core player too, if that scenario presented itself. Sproles could be argued a core player, but with the 2nd round pick packaged with him, I would count that as one core player trade for the Chargers. Suggs is definitely a core player. In fact, a core player rated 90 or above could count as 2. So if someone deals a Manning or a Gore, they only have one left.

Rules broken down: 4 trades allowed per season per team. In those 4 trades only 3 "core" players can be traded from one team. A core player would be loosely defined as someone rated in the early 80s to 90s, but we can debate the merits of it. Essentially, a starter that can't be easily replaced by someone else already on the roster. Which is why Sproles is borderline non-core. A first round pick would count as a core player. A superstar, a player rated 90 or above and can also not easily be replaced by someone on the roster, we're talking Peyton Manning, Frank Gore, etc, counts as TWO core players. If one of these players are traded you will still have 3 trades left, but only 1 of them can include a cornerstone/core player.

RE: FA 'draft': Okay, no movement since I left this afternoon. The OP is now updated though with everyone who has been picked up so far. The Lions, Bears and Packers should know that they should be getting their picks in the thread or to me via PM asap. I know it's a holiday weekend, but I'd like to move things along. So all 3 of those teams have until 1pm EST tomorrow to make a pick or I'll select one for them. I will glance at their depth chart and try to make the best pick possible for them, so honestly it shouldn't be that big of a disadvantage to anyone, I just want to get things going.

That's all!

Hope everyone is still moving along with their games this week.

edit: **please comment on my above proposed rules for number of trades and how each trade counts**

Online ranked games are terrible. I think the last game I played last night started with some guy starting on his 20, going no where, it's 4th and 10, maybe longer and he goes for it! If I stop him (which I sadly didn't, I just missed a tipped ball and was not thrilled with myself), he's essentially giving me 7 points. 1-3 plays and I'm in. 7-0, not even a minute into the game and you started with the ball. W t f! People are idiots. I'm most amused when people who don't seem like bad players at all go for it on 4th and try gimmicky things like onside kicks early in the game and all it does it make it easier for me. Trust me, I love getting the ball in your territory EVERY TIME! Still annoying though. It would be nice to not have to gameplan for that stuff, which is why this league rules.
can I trade my trades if I don't plan on using them?
I'm hoping this isn't serious. And if it is, no.

I'll probably be getting on in an hour or so to choose my free agent. I was on earlier this afternoon, but I hadn't seen the PM yet, and apparently I can't view free agents through the league website. Regardless, I'll be picking tonight.
Trade Alert:

Rams trade: Half of our defense
KFC trade: 8 piece bucket and 4 biscuits
Aw man...I tried to trade half my offense, and they would only give me popcorn chicken.

Schedule update...

Jags vs Chiefs (haven't seen either, what's up here?)
Giants vs Cowboys (sometime Sunday)
Browns vs Saints (sometime Sunday)
Vikings vs Packers (9:30pm EST Sunday)
Raiders vs Broncos (playing Monday night, should be last game of the week)

And I just put those 3 trades through mentioned at the top of this page.

AND all the free agent picks have been added to their respective rosters. I dropped the lowest available of the position you took, or for example, the Chiefs I dropped the lowest offensive lineman (a RG), since the lowest center wasn't that low. I would 1. Check your depth charts to make sure your new player isn't at the bottom of it and 2. Check who I dropped (you can do that by looking at the league news) and see if you'd rather drop someone else on your team. If that's the case, just pick up who I dropped and drop someone else.

Cowboys - 7

Tony Romo looked very erratic most of the game for the Cowboys. He was frequently missing wide open passes and finished with a 17.1 passer rating. His receivers did him no favors by dropping a couple of balls as well.

The Giants head into the bye week 7-0 and looking to get healthy. New York will receive an infusion on defense with the return of CB Corey Webster and DE Osi Umenyiora when they return to action in Week 9.

Make sure you add those trades to the OP too so we can keep track of the picks traded.

I'm still in the market for one more WR btw, for anyone looking to trade one.

Free Agent News

The Detroit Lions auto select CB Mike McKenzie. Logic: Holy crap their secondary is bad. McKenzie should find himself starting on the Lions right away.

Bears take Mike Gandy, LT. Packers take Daunte Culpepper, QB. Bengals take Orlando Pace, LT. Cardinals take Cornelius Griffin, DT. (Thanks for getting these picks to me btw)

The Denver Broncos auto select CB Fred Smoot. Logic: Their nickel back is rated 69. I was looking for a C or a LOLB but there was nothing rated very high.

The Redskins take Kevin Curtis WR, a much needed position to fill on Washington.

The Colts are on the clock, with the Falcons, Pats, Chargers and Panthers to follow.

In trade news, the OP has been updated to reflect the approved trades from yesterday. My trade limit is in parenthesis. (Number of trades left/Number of core players allowed to be traded). That is assuming we go forward with that rule.

Sounds good, Hydro. Make sure you take a look at the OP for those taken because only the first half so far have actually been added to the appropriate rosters.

I'm going to play basketball for the next 2-3 hours, so if it's coming up to your turn just keep up with the thread and post your pick when it's your turn. I know the Falcons are around too, so I expect these next two picks (Colts, Falcons) to be posted shortly. The Pats, Chargers, Panthers and Cowboys follow them.

Didn't have a chance to comment before, but I think your rules make perfect sense, we want to avoid TOO much roster turnover I think. And while I wouldn't think Sproles is a core player either, I agree that him + a 2nd should count as one, I think it's good that you've worked in some flexibility for what defines a core player.

My lack of a passing game drove me nuts. I should of subbed for the newly aquired vick. Good game regardless.:bomb:

I was thinking of trading Tom Brady for a KFC double down.

Pats are on the clock. I'll update the OP later to reflect these 2 new picks.

Chargers and Panthers have both sent me their selections via PM, so Cowboys, Ravens, Seahawks and Dolphins should tune in and/or submit their top 3-5 FA picks to me via PM.

should we go on and sign them ourselves or do you have to do it?

Pats told me to give them best available, I check their needs a bit and a RE it is. Mr. Darren Howard. Chargers select Nick Ferguson, SS and Panthers select Angelo Crowell, ROLB.

Cowboys are on the clock with Ravens, Seahawks and Fins to follow.

There weren't really any players at positions I was weak at except punter, and I don't want to have to punt much. I hope Culpepper never has to play, but if Rodgers ever was to get hurt, I'd have a 57 overall for a QB, and who's to say Culpepper would still be available later? There aren't many decent QBs available.

I'll go on now to pick up Ferguson, assuming you haven't already.
