I never owned a ruxpin so I don't know the price of it but I remember the prices of the toys I had to save up for ;) $5 to $10 for most of them and that seemed like a lot of money at the time  Original NES games ran $50 to $60 so I was only able to get a few per year :(
I know you remember 'The Wizard' Movie, right?
absolutely. i went to an E3 like thing the year SMB3 was released, before it was out (which i really thought was E3 until i found out there's only been an E3 for like 17 years?). they had an inflatable tanooki mario outside. they showed us how to do the 'duck down on the white block to go behind the scenery' trick onstage. it was the best event of my childhood. it was in Dallas, but have no idea what it was, exactly. there were Japanese guys presenting the mario games, so i probably thought it was mayimoto, lol. good times. they were few & far between, but they were there.

yeah, a convention, and i only remember SMB3 & nintendo being there. don't know how old i was (young, of course, & i was born in '78), but i'm almost positive it was after 'the wizard', but before SMB3 released. in was in either Dallas, or Ft. Worth. i'd like to know too, so if you do find anything, post me a link, please.
"I always wanted that R.O.B. Robot from Nintendo" BUMP!
My older cousin had one of those it was really cool when he unwrapped it on Christmas day. I ended up staying the night so that we could play with it but we ended up playing with the light guns and duck hunt more:lol:

I had to look for some screen shots of The Wizard but after seeing a few and reading the synopsis I definitely remember that movie. IMDB said it came out in 1989 so I was already a teenager but I still liked watching family films;) I didn't remember that it was Fred Savage but I guess it made sense for him to be the Star since he was doing so well in the wonder years. I don't know if you remember him in Little Monsters but his Monster friend was... Howie Mandel!

that was it. i had the white nintendo championship shirt that 'nick' was wearing with the upside down triangle (forgot what the mathematic name is). no power feast, though, but there was a tourney & now i remember being upset that you had to enter weeks or months in advance, but didn't know that until trying to enter. it seemed more like a show than an actual tourney (kind of like 'the wizard live'), but the big deal was the SMB3 reveal. don't remember if anyone got to play it, or if i just didn't get to play it.

that tanooki mario was probably the exact one they took to every venue, as i was so excited when i saw that thing. i was so happy to be around others that liked games as much as i did, as i thought i was never gonna meet anyone that knew you had a 1 in 255 chance of fighting a pink fluff (name escapes me, but pink something) in a tiny obscure room in final fantasy 3 (US), then a 1 in 255 chance for them to drop adamant so you could get the adamant sword & armor (but had to choose which if you ever got it, as it could only be used once, unless you spent weeks trying again, lol). there, i did, and even met people that liked dragon warrior (quest now). never thought i'd meet anyone that liked that game. people i knew would barely play contra with me.

that's great i know what it was called now. thanks a ton. i think i found out about it in nintendo power, then called the place they held the event for deets. that's crazy they had that dude announcing it in Cali, or Florida, though. never saw him, lol.

it definitely cost. my mom was like, "this is your Christmas present." it wasn't, but i know it was pretty costly for tickets at the time. yeah i got to play games that were already out (or soon to be), but i can't remember what, so that's how fascinating that part was, lol. watching vids of never released games was the best part. until recently, i thought it was literally E3, as they had press only sections (which were probably magazines at the time), but they were in rooms with closed doors, so not sure if there were games set up in there. i wanted in there SO badly.

kids that ONLY wanted to play tecmo bowl are the ones never wanting to play contra (which is easier if the 2p isn't soaking up your lives). i bet they are the people that buy madden every year for a roster update now. lost contact with them before my graduation year ('96, but got my GED in '95, so around then since they were schoolmates and neighbors, and i moved out on my own then).

Bump...

Bobby's World was one of the "good" cartoons that I was able to get my nieces and nephews to watch. I enjoyed watching it with them when I could but I was usually doing my homework while it was on. Howie is one of my favorite actors and he's had a had a fairly long career. He was also the voice of Skeeter in Muppet Babies and did you ever see "Walk Like a Man"?

I was lucky twztid, almost everyone in my neighborhood liked to play games and had at least one console. When I was younger there was a Capcom store in the mall near me and that was the only place that I could try out upcoming console games. I played Tecmo bowl, Dragon Warrior, Contra and pretty much anything I could get my hands on

WHAT!?! it's been 103+ degrees the last week or more (actual temp., not heat index), and looks like it'll stay that way unless we get storms like predicted (which are dangerous this time of year & always come with power outages & tornados).

my bill was $150 this last month & it was nowhere near as hot as this month has been. i live in an efficiency apartment alone (1 'big' room, with no wall to seperate the 'living room' & 'bed room'. have a wall between a very small kitchen & the rest, and a walk-in closet & bathroom are seperate rooms, but still small in comparison to a normal 1 bedroom), have no company over, and am very energy conscious, so i can only pray for a cheaper bill later this month (think billing period is 22nd to 22nd, but still gonna include lots of july which is killing my AC).
"I'm just a bill... sitting on capitol hill" BUMP!
I loved Schoolhouse Rocks! wasn't that series from the early 70s to 80s though? Also, I need the walking stick so that I can continue to speak softly
LA Noire is an amazing game. Hope you enjoy. I beat it already. Will not spoil the ending or plot twists for you.
i hated it at first because i'm a graphics whore, and the framerate was hideous. as it's gone on, i've nearly forgotten about it (and it's really not as bad during the story, but BAD in free roam & inside buildings). i even have 21 gold film reels just by exploring. out of the 15 people on the social club on my friends list, the closest is someone with 4. i need 9 cars to have all 95, and i'm on the 1st vice case. i may have to look up the rest of the film reels, cuz thats too many to just give up on that 80 point achievement.

every case gets better & better. i've gotten 5 stars on every single case so far, but i play games SLOW (i have to analyze every single inch of detail the devs put into a game's graphics). i think it says i've played for 30 hours already, lol. glad to know your taste in games is still dead on. convince oldschool to play it. he has it sealed, but can easily profit on it. i told him to take the profit before, but i've since changed my mind.

Reciprocal bump! *bumpity-bump*

I don't have any of the current gen consoles, so I haven't played LA Noire. They're going to release it for the PC with improved graphics (or so I've heard). I'm trying to get out of PC gaming, but I'm wondering if the PC version will be slightly better (in terms of framerate issues). Of course, that all depends if my GPU is "good enough" for the game. Blegh, I'm so sick of upgrading every 2 years!
