i've never held a sixaxis. are they really that much lighter? i remember them being really expensive when that was the only 1st party sony ps3 controller (DS3's were out in abundance by the time i got a ps3 - in jan '09). got 360 in dec. '08 i think, then the wii/ps3 in jan.'09. finally, i got an hdtv, and an internet connection in february '09 (all but 360 with my tax refund that was all for me since bills were paid off at the time).

that was a great few months of gaming for me. replaying all the games in your collection just to see what they looked like in HD was classic. such a cool thing to do that everyone i know has done (or close to everyone, lol).
 
I had to look it up but according to what I could find the DS3 is 40% heavier than a sixaxis. To me I just know I can play a lot longer without noticeable fatigue :lol: I paid less than $30 for the second sixaxis I own since it was used and from a friend :lol:

You probably have a native 1080P TV resolution right sdragon? So far I'm happy with how all of my console games look except for a handful and those are mostly on the Wii :lol: I don't expect much graphically from a console game since I'm spoiled by my PC graphics ;)
 
I sold my SixAxis. Never noticed the weight difference. Yes, I have a 1080p TV.

I really would like a comprehensive list of 1080p games on PS3 (that wasn't put together by fanboys & fangirls). I know NBA 2K11 is 1080p. I know Killzone 3 and LA Noire are only 720p, but they look fantastic, so it's whatever. When I switched from regular old TV to HD, I did sort of abandon the Wii...

Besides, we all know the gameplay is what matters most.

That's good news that the games won't be restricted to 1080P. I had read an article about the new PS3 console having that limitation but I guess it doesn't apply to the older hardware? I really only looked through my BCUS games to see which ones were 1080P but I could look through all of them and let you know which ones say 1080P. I never really paid attention to what the resolution was for PS3 games I just knew it looked way better than my previous console (a Gamecube) when I bought it :lol:

What I'm saying twztid13 is that your TV's must be upscaling the games (GOW Collection/Uncharted) to 1080p. I played GOW Collection on my 1080p and it was indeed 720p. Now, I can turn off the settings on the PS3 itself, so it will only output in 1080p, but all that basically does is shoehorn it into 1080 (sort of zooms it up a bit), and I'm not sure I like that so much, so for now, I have been leaving everything to play in it's normal resolution of 720p.

i know uncharted 2 is in 720p. you need to discuss that with oldschool. god of war collection is indeed in 1080p on my tv, and the devs said it was made in native 1080p. i have my ps3 set to play in the games native resolution. oldschool was the one saying the tv upscaled it, not me. i think you are confused. read my posts & make sure you meant that to me. if so, please explain why. thanks.

EDIT: and my earlier bump was to in fact agree with you, as i assumed you'd read my reply to oldschool in my thread about uncharted 2's box being wrong.

not sure on GoW coll. i got it on release day, and it filled up my whole screen (16:9 of course). i think you might have to go to an in game menu, maybe? not 100% sure, but i promise, cuz i was just as surprised that it was 1080p on my tv. don't have it anymore, so can't check, but just heard the devs of the new one (ready at dawn studios?) mention that the new GoW:Origins coll & the original one were made in native 1080p at 60fps (that's possible cuz they aren't brand new, cutting edge graphics, though).

not doubting you that it was 720p on your tv, but on mine, GoW 1&2 (both on the same BR as part of GoW collection) played in 1080p in full screen for me & looked amazing (as i was just in the middle of playing GoW1for the 1st time on my ps2 with component cables, then sold my ps2 & both GoW games when i heard abt this collection. i had never played GoW2 before the collection, even though i owned it for a bit). i got the GoW Collection on release day, so maybe a diff version? or maybe when i say fiddling in the menus, i'm thinking of the ps2 version, as i know you had to there, so i really can't tell you how it got that way, but i know i didn't force it, or change settings on my ps3. it would have been in-game menus, if anything.

i completely understand on wanting the physical copies & not wanting to pay an arm & a leg for them. i kinda still wish that's all there was. i, too, regret giving away all my MINT toys/games to friends long lost that no doubt made a fortune off of them. i had FF7 BL, too, but i don't remember which friend i gave it to, to try & get them into rpg's. at least it got them into money, more than likely.
 
GOW collection is definitely in 1080P on my set, no borders at all. Is your TV 1080P or 1080i, other than that the only thing I can think of is that maybe you have a defective copy of the game? I was trying to find more info on the Uncharted series and supposedly there is a patch that lets it upscale to 1080i, never tried that resolution to see how it looks though.

This is a partial list of some of the PS1 games I have: Dino Crisis, Silent Hill, Alien Trilogy, 007 racing, Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi, Fear Effect 1&2, Mechwarrior 2, Wing Commander III & IV, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, MDK, Armored Core, Armored Core: project Phantasma, Gauntlet: legends. I have more but they are on PSN so I can't trade those :lol:
 
I sent that pm by the way. Most of the time, I'm looking for MINT PS1 games, and what I've found has left a lot to be desired (mostly through other sites like Amazon).

if you watch any podcasts, www.epicbattleaxe.com does a weekly video podcast that agrees with the stuff we usually talk about & i love it. it's called epic battle cry. on episode 126 now, that mentions this very topic now that ubisoft & sony are doing it now. not a fanboy site (except 2 of the 3 guys like nintendo much, or more accurately think they're irrelavent, as you stated you thought after you got an HDTV).

small site that needs support (fans, not money), as they are kind of to the 'gaming sites', what CAG is the the 'deal sites'. great community (lots of international fans, which is ironic for a small site that needs US support for the ads to pay them for site traffic). give it a listen if you don't mind. if you don't like heavy metal, it's only the 1st 2 minutes that has it, so please stay past that. another friend told me that's why he hated it, but i know he didn't listen to the conversations, and the music was only at the very 1st of the episode he 'watched'.

one of the normal 3 guys is out, so they have a replacement guy, Lorin, filling in. they have 1-2 other spin off shows that are audio only that are great if you do like it. i love it because i get to watch the latest video game trailers, etc., of whatever they're discussing at the same time, without having to go watch them later, which saves me lots of time. may not matter that much atm, as it's so slow, and this was recorded the day before comicon, so next week will probably have better vids. new ones every friday. thanks for listening to my sales pitch, lol. i may copy/paste this on all our peoples' thread to get the word out, lol. j/k.

Dino Crisis is in great shape and black label but it doesn't have the RE3 demos disc and it's in a replacement jewel case. Silent Hill is just the manual and game in a jewel case, The manual is black label but heavily used and the game disc is in very good shape but it's the greatest hits version. I bought the Silent Hill manual and disc separately from two different lowball sales a while back.

i made maps for metroid & zelda, but never played might & magic (i'm not into the current ones either, but i like high fantasy. maybe it's the strategy element that turns me off?).
 
Well, I can only vouch for the first 2 or 3 Might & Magic games that I played, but they are more traditional RPG's, with a pinch of strategy mixed in. Went so far as to almost make a spreadsheet for the monsters (hit points, what magic worked well against them, etc.). But, I'm OCD, so...

you think i ain't, lol? i did the same stuff. i got nintendo power so it would have maps for zelda (way after i'd have made my own) and other games, occasionally.

just started arson on la noire. 'bout to go beat it, cuz amazon knocked the TIV down a little.
 
the GoW collection statement on psn says they were made in 720p, so i either misheard, or dev mispoke about that & new collection being in native 1080p. it does say they will run from SD to 1080p, though, so gonna check my settings to see what i have it on later.

as i said, i looked SWEET in 1080p on my tv, but i may have my ps3 settings on put it to the highest setting the software will output. that would explain why it was different resolution on our tv's, but not the black bars you saw. i have yet to see that, but were they like the bars that would be there if a movie or game sent that signal to a 16:9 tv?
 
the settings on my ps3 ask me which connection, i put hdmi. it asks to check all the boxes my tv can display. i check them all. it says, output:1080p under the display section. i have the 'cross color reduction filter:eek:ff', the 'RGB full range (hdmi):full', the 'super-white:eek:ff", the 'deep color output (hdmi):automatic'. that's it in 'display settings'.

under 'game settings the only 2 settings are - 'PS smoothing:eek:n', and 'PS upscaler:fullscreen'. the latter might be the difference in the black bars, but it's description is to upscale games shown in SD to HD, and only available on hdtv's of course, so i never thought that effected anything except original ps1/2 titles that were downloaded from ps store since mine's not backward compatible. maybe your ps3 treated those games like a ps2 game?

i thought there used to be different options, but maybe they changed with the updates? is that what yours are set to? do you have a BC ps3?

okay, lets get this out of the way for the 10th time, lol. i know you can force the games to 1080p, and i agree it looks crap. none of the settings that i listed, that i have on, do that. i tried playing games by changing all the settings. the games play in the same resolution no matter the choices in those options EXCEPT the one i'll mention below. the ps upscaling has nothing to do with making hd games into another resolution, as it's ONLY for 480i & 480p games that are NOT in HD.

the only way to force it on the ps3 when it's hooked up through hdmi is to uncheck everything except 1080p on the 1st option i listed in my last post. it will then only play games in 1080p, no matter their resolution. it looks horrible, even when forcing a 720p (which is already high definition) to 1080p.

the full screen option on GoWC is the only difference in our settings, most likely. now that you solved that, every game you & i play, will be in the same resolution it's created in. i also double checked the ratchet & clank:quest for booty, and it is indeed 720p. oldschool77 says the case on tools of destruction says 1080p, but i don't trust the cases. the R&C game i have is the downloadable one, so it could well be different than the others.

you and i agree that the majority of the games are in 720p on ps3. i wish they'd do better, but the people who make the great games on ps3 (1st party), make it look great in 720p. the problem i have is the 3rd party devs aren't as good & have a hard time programming with the Cell CPU cores, and the hardest time with any type of lighting engine on ps3. it's mainly time, as the 3rd party devs rush games, and sony give their devs the time they need to make it look right. can't wait for the ico/sotc remastered collection on Sep. 27th. i guarantee that old game will have better lighting than most current games on ps3. the big dogs like rockstar & some EA games, are just about all that get it right. the ps3 will have a long life cycle, and devs will get better (with lighting & everything).

i hate that the 360 is the other way around. it's looking like they will be releasing a new console in 2012 w/ the Wii U, and after this BS with ninty (slashing 80$ off the 3ds 5 months after i bought it), there's no way in life i will buy another console on release (ninty is gonna have a 2 year waiting period for me from now to eternity for that BS).
 
sure it's smart if you weren't one of the people ripped off. nintendo told their loyalist of loyal fans to bend over, they took a corkscrew and churned until we bled money.

3ds was rushed out w/o the freakin' web browser & eshop available for more than 2 months. worst thing is, my 3ds will probably play out/break before every single late adopter that's getting theirs ALOT cheaper. i've put MAYBE 8 full hours of gameplay on my system cuz i was not excited about these games. i would've EASILY waited 5 months where i could get the system 80$ cheaper & the majority of the release titles for half price instead of 20 roms of crap i could play on my pc if i wanted to. the LEAS ninty could have done is extend my warranty by 1 year, so the loyal ninty supporters not calling in & having to pay for a repair while a late adopter gets a better EVERYTHING. there is not 1 single benefit to me buying the 3ds when i did.

i will now only buy a nintendo console 2 years after it's released, if ever. this is the only time i've felt burned. i didn't buy a ps2 on launch. i bought it when i played tekken tag tournament many months later. that was the only system i never bought on launch day, and i have never felt i had been done evil like this. lack luster games? yes. slashing the price 30%+ 3 months after the full feature set of a console is released in addition to no games, then saying, but were giving you free games for the amount we screwed you over by.

anyone can spin it either way depending on the situation your in. i straight up trusted this company that i have supported for 26 years, and they screwed me without vasoline. i don't think one can righfully understand unless a) they are in my position, or b) they buy my 3ds from me with those 20 games for more than it's worth. interested?

btw, so sorry if i've been at all rude this past week. very stressed, and lots of stuff going on, and this just put icing on it all. hope you understand.

I'll get those pics taken and try to post them tonight in my thread, I probably should have arthritis by now from all the gaming I've done over the years. Luckily, I also really like arts and crafts so my fingers are toughened from ceramics, woodwork, leather working, metal working, and fishing :lol:
