Marvel VS Capcom 2, which version is better?

I was wondering if you guys can help me out, which version of Marvel VS Capcom 2, is better and why? The Dreamcast, Xbox, or PS2 version???

Dreamcast, since the hardware is practically identical to the arcade. Most accurate console port of the game you can get.

Xbox version is good but not perfect. Never played the PS2 version but I hear it's the worst of the 3 versions (mainly sound & graphics problems I think).
 
the Dreamacast is the closest to the arcade, but you are probably not going to notice the different with the other versions. Go with the cheapest version (probably also the dreamcast).
 
Dreamcast > Xbox > PS2

The Xbox version isn't too bad, the gameplay is essentially the same. The PS2 suffers from a lot of things, most notably that they had to remove frames of animation from a lot of the characters. Some combos don't work on the PS2 version beause of this.
 
I had all versions. DC is my favorite. I ripped out the music and replaced it with punk even did one with an all music.. :) took forever but worth the effort also did this with samda de amigo... MvC2 with better music rocks
 
The dreamcast and ps2 versions both play very well, I would have to say the ps2 version is the best one because of the controller (I own both). All of the reviews for the xbox version were in the 6 range so I'm assuming it sucks.
 
Ps2 Version is the best IMO because its controller is better suited to 2d fighting games. I've only played Xbox and Ps2 versions so out of those, Ps2 wins.
 
As stated before, the Dreamcast is the best - Xbox is the 2nd and PS2 is a distant 3rd (unless you just love the PS2 controler).
 
Like nearly everyone else has already said, go with the Dreamcast version first, and the XBox version second. The PS2 version kinda sucks.

Ah the Anniversary controller is one of the worst controller ever made. Stick with something from Hori or the Saturn PS2 game pad.

Thats right, they do have a PS2 controller to Dreamcast adapter. I have the Street Fighter Aniversary Arcade stick which works for PS2 and Xbox. So if I get the PS2 to DC converter I should be able to use it with the dreamcast. That would rock.

This probably the 3rd time I've seen this discussion. Anyways I say Dreamcast, now good luck unlocking everything, it'll take several hours away from your life.
 
The Dreamcast version, by far. For some magical reason, it's worse on PS2 and Xbox (sound-wise, and graphically). Especially the controls.

MVC2 is on the Naomi board.
Import version, has 3 diffrent points to unlock verything.
3 months before NA release.

you also cant unlock any extra character in the import DC version without a Japanese MvC2 arcade machine

That's great but I believe the OP is asking about console versions only.
 
if u play on with a controller, PS2 is the best.

the reason is,

with extra shoulder buttons u can do things like wave dashes & triangle jumps easier

not to mention things like roman cancels on GGXX or whatever rolls, tech lands, etc on CVS2, extra shoulder buttons really help on playing fighting games w/ controllers.

if u got a joystick tho, get DC version
 
I love the arcade version of it.. I own the xbox version and I think it holds as a fairly good Capcom Fighter for the system.. I also have the anniversary collection and thats a "meh".. I can't seem to get the settings right.. i wanted to play classic street fighter so I chose classic Ryu and it sets me against like Super Turbo Zangiff and i get slaughtered everytime.. ah well.. fighters are meant to be played against humans.

why does a fighting game being "arcade perfect" matter to anybody??

becoz I kno that most ppl who can play fighting games real good could care less about tiny differences that go unnoticed

coz in the end, they can all still do the same shit they always do

I mean I kno that in DC vs PS2, the order of the characters on the selection screen is changed (coz of different ways to unlock them or something, so I hear)

but does that really affect the gameplay?

especially since most ppl who play these games casually just do simple combos and hadukens and stuff

you can download the save file now for it. also back then you could've played it online in jap to unlock those points.

for the hardcore peeps, we like the fighters to be arcade perfect because the arcade is the standard. competition and tourneys are almost always held in arcades (not as of recent years) but it used to be like that. even now fighters that shift to home systems more than arcades people still pick what is closest to arcade.

also alpha 3, and sf3 have huge arcade differences than home. same with older ones like xmen vs street fighter when it hit home version they took out alot of broken combos and infinites/glitches. people didn't like that, i didn't either.

for people that go pro with fighters, like myself, these little differences are actually huge. in high level play, glitches and game expoits really matter alot.

i am very surprised this question is coming from you since you just posted about triangle jumps and roman cancels and such.

as for controller pad, i highly disagree with ps2 controller. the ps2 dpad does not have the angles like dc and xbox. and from my experience i miss alot of modifies, fast flies with sentinel and basicly anything complex it cant do consistently. go ahead try out custom combos on ps2 dpad on sakura on cvs2. you will miss consistently mid way through because of the controller set up. the xbox pad is definitely alot better than ps2 imo especially if you play picky characters in any fighter.

anyone disagrees about somethin', i'll be more than glad to argue about it.;)
 
Hmm, the PS2 version controls well do to the Dual Shock 2 is just a good controller for fighters but the port has some problems. On my copy, one of the stages music always stops playing shortly after the fight starts. I think this bug was reported in several copies of the game but not all. It doesn't really bother me because I'm really a fan of the astro-jazz soundtrack of the game.
I did have the Dreamcast version of the game when it came out. It's good but the controller wasn't very fighter friendly for me. I can't tell any difference between the graphics between the too but considering that the PS2 version came out way after the Dreamcast version I'm was a bit disappointed that they didn't try to clean up the sprites from the Dreamcast version. IMO, I enjoy both versions but the PS2 barely edges it out due to the controller. I haven't tried the Xbox version but I really can't get into 2-D fighters on my Xbox due to the positioning and feel of the D pad.

Home versions usually add a bunch of stuff anyway... galleries, vs. modes, sound options, etc. All that makes it different from the arcade if you wanna get technical. No one's gonna complain about that extra stuff not being in the arcade though, because that's what makes a home version great. But when it comes to the actual gameplay, that's where arcade perfection matters. When you're actually holding the controller in your hands and doing moves, you want to be playing the actual game, not a distant cousin that looks and plays kind of like the game.

I don't know if anyone here would really care about a select screen being different, unless you want to go back and read one of VGM's old posts about why Street Fighter II Double Impact was supposedly better than 3rd strike...

so besides the availability of certain controllers, besides the features you get in the console version, besides cosmetic shit like the order of characters in the character select screen..

what actually are the gameplay differences in the dc and ps2 versions of mvc2? what makes a dc match different from a ps2 match?
 
they modified a little with the ps2 version. characters look more pixelated because they are a little bigger than the dc version. game play stutters alot when you do supers on the ps2 version and especially if you cancel supers it pauses at wrong times making it difficult to time crucial things. random slow downs in the ps2 version is really annoying.

glitches from the dc version are taken out. ruby heart freeze glitch, gambit glitch, and one of the big ones i thought they took out was the juggernaut power up glitch.

glitches are also added into the ps2 version (unintentionally of course). i am credited for finding this glitch on ps2 version. pick magneto, pick whoever as opponent. throw your opponent with mag using HP. snap them out and the game will freeze forever. this is not in the dreamcast or xbox version.

some supers react differently (i haven't read about these much because i really dont care for ps2 or xbox versions).

overall the ps2 and xbox versions are solid but if you are playing the game at high level play it will be annoying. even down to the muffled sounds of xbox and ps2. for example when you are doing infinite combos with magneto the hit sounds are muffled and IMO can screw up your game play.

i can add more stuff later but right now these are the major ones that i remember.

I mean the reason I ask was coz, jus MVC2 in particular, I kno ppl who played both xbox and ps2 version. And while theyre not top tourney players, theyre still pretty good and can pull off a mean Magneto or Sentinal, and they say the gameplay is jus fine.

SF3S outside of DC, I donno anything about coz I never played it.

CVS2 on PS2 works fine for me, and I also have DC version. However, I suck major at this game anyways so it's not like what I say mattered.

GGXX on ps2 was arcade perfect for me, everything I learned I was able to take to the arcades. But I read they altered May's air dust somewhat (which dont matter to me coz I dont use her)

but in the end, I believe it's the controller that makes the fighting game. Think of what controller you will use then decide from there.

No its not, the Anniversary Edition controllers are great. If you play alot of 2D fighters, then you should definitely pick one up.

I'd go with the PS2 version because it has the best controls. The PS2 controller just seems meant for this game. I'm sure the stuff in the other versions that are better are just minor differences, so the PS2 version is the way to go.

Also, call me nuts but I actually quite liked the music in this game. Am I the only one?
