Mercenaries 2: World in Flames - Gen Discussion & Info
I read that it was out there last night so I joined an open coop room really quick and got it on my first try.

What percentage were you at when you beat it? I'm at I think 60% right now and each mission is only giving me like a +1%. I wasted so much time dicking around with the races for the other factions because I thought they would advance the story and give me more missions and it turns out all I had to do was go down the mission path for the oil company's faction. :dunce:

Did you(or Jim, depending on who was hosting) at least get credit for completing all the HVTs?
I think we were at 58.9% on the third to last mission.

We didn't do the HVTs yet. We did kill/capture some like on the way to missions though, so I guess we're screwed.

The game screwed Jim out of the final story achievement too. He was hosting and I somehow got it. I was the one who did the final quick time event for the final boss though.

if anybody wants to run this co-op tonight hit me up on live

i already beat the game but i need to do some contracts only got 71.1% complete

I've been playing this game all day with a friend. We're about 30% through; doing a lot of side missions. We both love this game.

It has some "pop-in" and a few collision issues, but nothing that detracts from the game play. It plays great and generally looks really nice. It's absolutely a blast (literally). I'd almost liken it to Crackdown. It's easy and simple, but pure fun. The story keeps the game going, but doesn't get in the way. It's all gameplay and all fun.
There's no need to worry about the length of the game, there are a good 20-30+ hours of gameplay, easy.
How the hell are you first on the leaderboard with 954 million and the guy below you only has 366 million?

I hear the game freezes a lot.

Is it an isolated incident, or more widespread? I would eventually like to get this title.

I've put in about 15 hours and had no freezing whatsoever and I'm at 46% in the game basically just doing all the HVT and Destruction missions.

By the way, the Devastator is the game's most awesome vehicle.

I played this almost all day today and didn't have it freeze once.

There may be a glitch that would prevent you from blowing up all the buildings and killing/capturing all the HVTs.

While doing missions for the AN and progressing through the main story, you have to go and kill a Chinese HVT. If you do this before talking to that HVT and setting up outposts for China, you may not be able to unlock the buildings or HVTs.

I think that's what happened to me and Jim. We've done everything possible, yet it says there's no work for us and there's still 10 HVTs we haven't got yet. We're at max relations with China and we can't get them to offer us any missions.

Yeah, I've put in at least 20 hours and it hasn't frozen on me once.

I ____ing LOVE the A.I.

I drop down to take over an outpost. After finally demolishing every last one of those stupid-ass bunkers with infinitely spawning RPGers in the windows, I start calling in the faction support so they can actually go inside the building and claim the outpost. Of course, there's stairs blocking the landing so if I put the smoke beacon thingy close to the outpost they are dropped by the helicopter on the roof and they drop down 3 stories and die on impact. Ok, so I figure I'll put them a little further away by the stairs. I call in two helicopters and all of the like 8-10 guys assemble next to a vacant SAM turret trying to demolish it with small arms fire(which isn't doing any damage) and completely ignoring the outpost building. I throw some C4 on it since they seem far enough away from it, they're a good 10 feet even from the sandbags around the turret and of course I indirectly end up killing at least one and turning them hostile, which ends the mission. :bomb:

I also like when I can literally see enemy reinforcements falling out of the sky onto the road.

Ah, okay. That's good. Mercs 2 is on the top of my wants list (when I get back my 360 from repairs).
already done with the game? Please don't tell me you just bought it today. If so, this game is sounding worse and worse.
Doesn't matter how long or short a game is, the "blitz" crowd will have it beaten on the first day of release.

This is confirmed. Blow up buildings and kill/capture HVTs first. If you beat the main storyline first, you can't complete China's.

Picked this up yesterday and haven't had any problems.

Best Buy was sold out of the 360 versions, but CC had plenty. This was probably because they were setup in a display stand over in the corner by the in store pickup counter. I only saw them because I asked.

Also, I think if you start the game by immediately jumping into someone's co-op game (without starting the single player), you don't keep any of the money you accumulate. At least I didn't.

The game is a lot of fun though. Only problem we had yesterday was when you have to help the guy shred documents, my friend and I kept shooting down helicopters that would spiral down into the building, blow it up and fail the mission. Here's our best in-game conversation from yesterday:

me (seeing this GIANT radio tower): "I'm gonna blow this tower up."
friend: "Can you?"
me: *plants C4*, boom, nothing
friend: "It didn't even warp or anything."
me: "The developers said you can blow up anything. Move, I'm gonna airstrike it."
*BOOM* tower falls into crumbling heap
friend: "OK, THAT WAS AWESOME!"

Being rich is so ____ing awesome, no more dicking around with those shitty smoke grenades and beacons to call in airstrikes, all laser for me.

Although, the targeting system on the laser bombs will ____ up all the time and it'll end up dropping the laser guided bomb on my head instead of the target I pointed it at.

Also, I need to find out where to buy more Anaconda(Hind-D helicopter knockoff) drops. Those are so great for demolishing the buildings that the factions want destroyed.

i remember reading not to long ago that a very select few games were playable on LIVE even with a Silver Membership. Has anyone with a silver tried this game on live?

Just got this from Blockbuster. The first couple levels were quite fun. Looking for someone to co-op with. Hit me up.

Got a few hours into the game last night so I'll post my impressions. I am a big fan of Mercs 1. Hopefully this will help some people considering that this thread is lacking details regarding how the game actually plays.

The world seems very large and looks nice considering its size. The South American environment is very colorful which is a nice change from the dreary North Korean countryside in the first game. The shooting mechanics are not as good as they could be. At 40+ meters your M4/AK47 is very inaccurate. On top of that there is also some visible auto-aim that cannot be disabled. I would prefer more accurate weapons with no auto-aim. Shooting is a lot more fun up close than it is from a distance. I enjoyed running up to guys with the shotgun and micro SMG.

The missions early into the game are quite well done and put you in control of heavy firepower in some fun places. The game does a great job of setting up just the right moment to unleash maximum destruction without forcing it. If all the missions are as well thought out as the first few this will be a real romp.

The control scheme is quite baffling to say the least. Face buttons are used for brake/acceleration in vehicles when other games have shown that the trigger buttons work better for this task. The airstrike/airdrop menu can only be accessed while you're standing still but the game is not paused when using it. It's frustrating to want to toss a smoke marker near a heavily defended enemy outpost and get shot at because of this strange design choice. This menu should have been put in the PDA/pause menu so that you can choose your destruction ahead of time and use it without getting blown to hell.

Right now I'm playing as Mattias and his quips of dialog are quite funny in the heat of battle. Enemy soldiers repeat the same lines over and over, but that's only a minor issue until you blow the snot out of them. The game doesn't take itself too seriously and I appreciate the humor.

The factions from the first game are back and they're as fun as ever. If you're driving an enemy vehicle in friendly territory your allies will rightfully shoot you. Conversely you can disguise as the enemy by jacking one of their vehicles. It's interesting to see how the factions interact with each other and how they treat you depending on what you're doing.

Reviews really nailed this game for being buggy. In about three hours of gameplay I didn't observe a single notable bug. It's important to note that as of yesterday you will be prompted to download an update for this game. I suppose it's possible the update fixes some of this bugginess, but the secrecy of X360 game updates makes it difficult to know exactly what the update was meant to address. The AI has also taken a beating in reviews, but it's not horrible. They shoot at me when I'm in their perimeter shortly before I blow up the area. I have not observed the AI doing anything so stupid that it brought down the immersion factor. Again, maybe the update fixed some AI issues?

I haven't tried the co-op mode yet. I'm waiting on my XBL friends to hopefully get the game.

Despite a few curious design decisions, fans of the first game will enjoy this. Lots of folks have nitpicked technical issues and unfairly compared this game to other games in this genre. But really, Mercenaries 2 is in a genre of its own. It's all about over-the-top action and being given nearly limitless options in how to create beautiful chaos.

Edit: Peter Stormare rules. "Why can't everything be rocket-propelled?!"

Someone already traded this in at Gamestop so hopefully it lasts until tonight and I can get it with the Gamestop coupon!

Unfortunately I am one of the ones affected by the constant freezing. :(

I can't go 5 minutes without it freezing, tried everything I could think of to fix it. Around the 2 hour mark played time (yes, that my means my game has frozen 30+ times and I still try and play :p). I think I finally have to give up and send it back to gamefly if someone doesn't know a solution; I seem to have reached a point in the game that won't even load 70% of the time.

Maybe it's your 360? I can't imagine the exact same game freezing on one console and not another.

Possible it's the code not agreeing with certain hardware combinations (disc drives/boards/chip sets/etc., the problem is too widespread to fully convince me it's just a malfunctioning DVD drive.

I also just got done taking apart my DVD drive and gave it a thorough vacuum and cleaning and still experiencing game lockups, while every other game I throw at it runs just fine.

It could also just be a bad batch of discs out there, too.

:cry::cry::cry::cry:

Finished the game today. Pretty fun, but gets old relatively quickly. There's a bit of replay once you unlock a certain big boom weapon, but after you destroy 90% of VZ there's not much else to do.

Also, this game is buggy. Disappearing supply drops/vehicle deliveries, clipping, and the game refusing to load in certain places (not my DVD drive).

Overall, if this hits $30, I might pick it up again for co-op.

Anyone have like a map of where all of the hidden parts are??? I am looking for one similar to the GTA IV one for like pigeons or Stevie's cars, or just a map
I'm with that. Without a demo I'm not gambling on a freeze-o-thon.
It does freeze sometimes. Like when you enter an outpost and it is loading, the little loading icon will stop with its cycle. But once you get the Magnum, it rocks

Yeah this map worked great for me. If you aren't finding any of the spare parts at these marked spots then you need to reboot the 360. I was questioning the validity of this map until I rebooted because once I did they all showed up where the map said they were. I guess they were invisible or something.

Oh and make sure you use a helicopter to get from spare part to spare part because I ran into what I consider an awesome glitch. I was in coop with a friend getting the spare parts. I was the host, he was the guest. If I flew over a spare part that I had gotten previously—as in before I started up the game just now with the intent of finding the rest—then my helicopter would magically re-pickup the spare part.

Does anyone have the viral achievement already? I want to get 1000/1000 points eventually and it can't be done without it.

Also, the game is fun and all but it has some serious pop in problems. It gets kinda annoying but it's not all bad when you are blowing crap up.
how long is the game?
If you're looking to do all the sidemissions and activities, probably 30-40 hours.

Yeah, I am just gonna go solo and get all(or most) of the parts

Thanks for the map:wave::wave:
I have it. I have to rent the game again here in a few days so I'll let you get it then
thanks, anyone else notice the acheivements are very easy to get? I'm worried that I'll blast through this game quickly and not want to play it later. I'm still having a lot of fun playing it so it was worth it.

I like the game, but like mentioned above, I might have to reboot the system cause where the parts are supposed to be they aren't there.
I have a code for the extra costumes to give away. First one to PM me gets it.
I'll take it if you don't mind.
