My PS4 Eye review

Okay today I tried the PS4 eye camera, the Playroom robots, and the PS4-eye compatible game Just Dance 2014.

The first thing I want to note is that I'm not sure what the right eye is doing on the camera, if anything. When I tried the Playroom robots, and covered up the right eye with my hand, it made no difference it seemed. Covering up the left eye messes up the picture though. So what is the right eye really for? Is it for if you are playing 3-4 players? Perhaps someone can elaborate on this.

Okay, let's go to talking about Just Dance 2014 and using the PS4 camera with it. The camera and game combination doesn't result in the most accurate thing in the world, but it is more accurate than when I played a Just Dance game on the Kinect 1 for the XBox 360. If I had to make a guesstimate, I'd say it was 30% more accurate than the Kinect 1 at Just Dance, picking up a lot more moves but still needing better accuracy to be perfect.

Weighing in on the Just Dance game, it's funny that it saves video of you doing the moves and plays it back to you after each round. I do not remember that before, but maybe it was there. Either way, it's funny to watch.

I should also note, you will need the camera or Playstation Move equipment for playing Just Dance 2014 PS4. I'm pretty sure of it, anyway.

My score of the Playstation Eye camera: 8.8/10
My score of Just Dance 2014 for PS4: 8/10

Update: I can confirm both cameras can work together. In two-player in that Playroom hockey, it needs both eyes to produce video of the players.

Hm, I know that the saving of video and playing it back after you're done is something that Dance Central did on the original Xbox, so that maybe where they got it from.

Anyone have a clue when more of these are hitting the stores? I picked up a used one the other day from GS, but I really wasn't thrilled with it so now Im thinking of selling it or returning it, but I would like to know when more might be produced in case they add a feature or two that'll make me interested in it again.

Wish I could find a Playstation Camera. I don't really need it but, I feel like I do. I thought I might use it to stream but I haven't even streamed yet so I probably don't have any use for it, but the fact that you can't find them anywhere is making me really want one.

Sony was advertising the PS4 Camera on their website back in early January with a March 2014 shipping date. This is consistent with what I've been told from managers at GS and a Sony rep I happened to bump into and is also the reason why they are reselling for such a high price. Retailer simply won't get restocked for another month or so
