I think we REALLY need to be concerned if these people learn to make fax machines explode!

But honestly, what would be the reason anyone would use a pager? Are cell phones banned in Lebanon or something?
Ironically, the military was using pagers to be less susceptible to hacking that happens to smart phones.

This might be for real this time.

- Official name is Switch 2
- Evolution not a revolution
- Joy-Cons use magnetic attachments not rails
- Right Joy-Con has an extra button underneath the Home button
- Kickstand appears to resemble the one from the OLED model
- Much larger screen compared to OG Switch
- 12GBs of RAM
- 256GBs of base storage
- Will use physical media again
- Built in mic
- 4K capability
- HDMI 2.1 support (meaning VRR and HDR)
- Performance in the range of PS4/PS4 Pro with modern tech advancements (DLSS)

We'll see.

People mainly care about two things:
  1. What is the upgrade level of graphical capability?
  2. Can it play Switch 1 carts?
I guess it would be good to hear that it does HDR and VRR. But most of this stuff was to be assumed already. Including incompatible Joy-Cons and sub-optimal memory capacity. Nintendo better not blow it with the backwards compatibility.

Another thing to think about...
  • If the Switch 2 launches at $499 price, customers are going to think "whew, wow, I can probably get along with my Switch 1 a little longer. That's kind of expensive for dated, 2017 technology." It plays OG Switch games at like half the price.
  • If it launches at $399 MRSP, people are going to go "oooh wow, I could get two of those for the price of a single PS5 Pro. I'm definitely buying one of those right away. great value."
Price perception is everything. Especially in online discussions.

If it was more expensive than that, then customers could just get a high-end Steam Deck. That's not going to happen. It will be competitively cheaper than other similar devices. I have a hard time seeing this at anything besides $399, or else ppl could just get a dd PS5 or XBSX (with better graphics); that would be the talking point.

But it better not be a case of launching at $299 or $399, and then cutting out $100-$200 in vital components that anyone needs to operate it. (seriously doubt Nintendo would do that).

Also there's no reason the previous Pro controllers shouldn't work on the new system. They better not act like greedy old Nintendo. who always used to try sell you 'more plastic' every subsequent hardware cycle. I hope they're past that. I understand developing and releasing newly upgraded Joy-Cons but Nintendo can seriously still botch it all at this point.

It's a very competitive market out there, and total PS5 Pro sales are going to show that to everyone one year from now. People aren't buying new hardware (phones and tablets) every 2yrs like they used to. Performance and QoL gains have diminished.

I am optimistic about backwards compatibility of most games and accessories. Part of that belief is from seeing no significant discounts on controllers the last 3 years and the lack of Nintendo Selects.

Thanks! I was just about to head out to Best Buy to get one, so any discount was fine. Wasn't planning on a red one, but can live with it.
not sure if you already bought it, but its $260 at walmart now, seller is Nationwide Distributor, so if you are looking to price match might be an issue.

If they announce a Switch 2 anywhere around Christmas season for $399, they're going to piss off a lot of people who bought $350 Switch OLED bundles, IMO.

Better soon or not until 2025.

As for Nintendo getting patent case (not copyright) against Palworld, fuck Nintendo. Patents on game mechanics are trash and don't actually benefit the end user at all.

The original Switch only has a 6.2 inch screen, basically every iPhone and every Galaxy except the base models is bigger than that. And honestly with the resolution and the bezel the Switch screen manages to feel even smaller than it is, especially if you spend any time using a 10 inch tablet and then go back to it.

Mine is 6.5" 4K display, so... yes?
I have to admit that I was thinking more along the lines of the Switch (without joycon) unit size -- about 9.5" x 4". I can't see any device being that big and still being considered "phone" portable, hence my confusion... I was thinking strictly of the dimensions of the device. If we ignore the bezels, then yes, the Switch has a smaller screen than most post 2019 Apple (and Samsung, I guess) devices.

I wish more of these game companies would do "Launch edition" versions of their consoles at a higher price because they know they will sell out and that scalping is a major problem and if they did that, they could then lower the price more rapidly and actually profit a little off of the early systems. I honestly think the PS5 Pro launching at $700 is a great thing, the people that want it for that price would be paying that much to scalpers anyway and everyone else can wait for a price drop.

A "premium launch edition" Super Switch at $500 (just make the color gray or something) would sell fine and they could announce then that six months later they will put the next wave of production out at $429 or $399 and not get backlash rather than just selling all of them at that price from the beginning for no good reason. Of course the internet being the internet there will be backlash regardless.

As for the leak, I can't see magnetic attachments being a real thing, the main device is being supported by the controllers when you're holding it, if one comes loose and falls and breaks that's just endlessly bad PR and expense. And there's just no way they're calling it the Switch 2. And I've had 32 gb of RAM in my computer for years now, RAM is cheap, 12 GB seems NIntendo-ish but I can't see a good reason to not have more.

I certainly agree that phones have gotten obnoxiously big and barely portable. I have clung to my older Galaxy model for almost six years now largely because I don't really want one any bigger. And I wouldn't want a new Switch to be a lot bigger as an overall device, just a bigger screen.

Not a fantastic deal but finally ordered physical copies of Hollow Knight (~$30) and Castlevania Advance Collection (~$40) from PNP Games. Total was $70.15.
PSA - foreign transaction fees may apply so check with your credit card and compare currency conversion rates. PayPal wanted to charge me $3 more for me to pay in USD instead of CAD.

Yeah I saw that this morning, with the cheap Hollow Knight availability.

That's a solid cart purchase. God it's a great time to be a gamer. 🥰 Picking up high quality games like that, at those prices.

The images that leaked were some enthusiasts renderings. They looked AI generated to me. Totally fake... pure speculation.

Better soon or not until 2025.

I feel like it's already too late to build hype and get retailers a chance to do preorders. I wouldn't mind if it was March 2025. The March launch of the Switch felt kind of perfect. Far enough after Christmas to not get bundled in the hype but also far enough from the next Christmas to get hardware in stores and make that first Christmas not too bad. But they need something big to launch it with. Maybe Prime 4 as a cross platform game and then we are overdue for a proper new 3D Mario game.

All Nintendo has said is they will announce it by the end of March. They've got new Mario, Mario Party, and Zelda games coming out before the end of the year. No need to announce anything until March.

All Capital One cards have no foreign transaction fees. If you have a Costco membership, the Costco Citi credit card has no foreign transaction fees. Also the Chase credit card for Amazon Prime members is also foreign transaction fee free.

I think that’s the major no annual fee ones. There are of course credit cards that have annual fees along with no foreign transaction fees.

Yes! Discover cards also have no foreign transaction fee. I prefer to use my Kroger card if there’s Apple Pay since it has no foreign fee and gives 5% back on Apple Pay. PNP didn’t take Apple Pay though so I settled with 2% back and no foreign transaction fee with my Fidelity card. 🤓

Best Buy Citi Visa has no foreign transaction fees as does Barclay Card Master Card. American Express Platinum and Gold cards also don't have foreign transaction fees, but do have annual fees.

Anyone else play the Romancing SaGa 2 : Revenge of the Seven demo? Having not played the franchise before, I'm curious to what people's thoughts are on the demo.

Personally found it enjoyable and am looking forward to the actual game release now.

I have it already pre-ordered, but I'm going to try it. Romancing Saga 2 (the original) wasn't the easiest to get into, so I hope this is a bit more lax on some things and looks really nice. Likely will give my write up like I did Visions of Mana. Have about 7-8 demos on Steam too, so it will be a fun few hours this weekend.

Fragrant Story and its DLC expansion is now on Switch with a 75% off launch discount. This game was infamously the last 3DS game ever released, but it didn’t get much love when it first came out due to it being obscenely short and barebones. It seems to have improved a lot when the DLC expansion was released though, and this version has even more added content. So basically its a mid indie take on FF Tactics with a couple dozen hours of content for $2. I was able to cover the cost with my gold coins. Can’t complain, worth checking out imo- FFT knockoffs aren’t exactly plentiful these days!

I played and sold my copy before the DLC content aka full game expansion. The little timing for things I didn't like much, but I'm willing to give it a try for very cheap. Will see if it's worth anything.

Flagrant Story is also getting a Physical copy on Squire-games.com.. $8 Eshop Download or $35 physical version- seems like a decent game to possibly pick up as it says 30 hrs %100 completion time - add to the backlog maybe

So, I was one of the folks who bought the 3DS physical version previously. I have not yet played the new DLC that was recently released, but just be aware that the original game was pretty barebones. I enjoyed it for what it was, but there was not much of a story and it was essentially ~5 maps with a couple variations and rulesets you could run with. The 3DS version was $4 to download, and you could clear the initial run of content in about 30 minutes (clearly, it will take you significantly more time if you enjoy the loop and go back to unlock the rest of the items). I'd say take a look for some gameplay on YouTube to see if you might enjoy it, especially before grabbing the physical version.

EDIT: Just saw rpgaymer's post above. At $2, absolutely, I think even the original release without the extra content is worth that. I'll even go in for that to not have to dig out the 3DS to try to the new update.

Gamestop online at least shows the Nintendo Switch Lite Hyrule Edition is no Longer Available & Sold Out.. I think only BestBuy has em now ? Hopefully anyone that wants one ordered by now - it is quite nice looking -

I believe the Mario RPG style timed button presses are now optional in the switch version and can be toggled off, so there’s that too.

It sucks to buy a switch lite at the end of the console generation like this, but I've got one pre ordered. My switch online sub just ran out so cool that it comes with a year.
Yeah they've had those Animal Crossing Switch Lites with full game included for $160. I had a Switch Lite and sold it. The buttons feel cheap to me and battery life is meh. $100 device in my mind.

Yeah I already have animal crossing and admittedly the only reason I'm buying it is because it's Zelda. Still have my Majora's mask new 3ds

I hope the next system has bigger A B X Y buttons on the integrated controller. I couldn’t believe how tiny those buttons are now on joycon. For ants I tell you.

Best Buy sent me my shipping notification today for my Gold Zelda Switch Lite. I'll wrap it up when it gets here to save it for my 10 year old for Christmas. He wants to play Fortnite on it though so I'm wondering if I should put in the memory card and install Fortnite before I wrap it.

Just finished the first dungeon in Zelda echoes. Enjoying it so far, but man the over world sections still feel kinda juttery at times similar to links awakening. Surprised they didn't get that fixed for this game.
Yeah, sadly Digital Foundry said the framerate is worse than Link’s Awakening at times. Was hoping they would have been able to fix it as well.

Seems like they might've squeezed all they could out of the switch hardware. Here's hoping it runs better on the switch 2.

I did not notice it in handheld mode but soon as I was playing it docked on my 55" TV I noticed it right away. Hoping for an update but still enjoying the game even with the jutteryness from time to time.

I really hope Nintendo has performance updates planned for their 1st party games once the Switch 2 comes out. I could also see a lot of 3rd party updates as well to make the games run even better.

Ah yeah I've been playing docked on my TV. Maybe I'll switch over to handheld for this one.

Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart prove that solid performance is possible on the Switch if prioritized.

Grezzo developed Links Awakening and the new Zelda. They obviously don’t have the same standard as Nintendo.
Agreed. With any platform it depends on how well they optimize the engine around the hardware. There are multiplat switch versions of titles that run better than the Sony versions occasionally. Recent Trails ports of Azure and zero duology come to mind. Granted those also came with enhancements while the ps4 versions doesn't have them.

Does anyone have experience with the Nitro Deck or ND+? I’m leaning towards the ND+ with the docking cable to use on trips with my kids, but am curious to hear about the analogue stick placement compared to the regular deck.

Echoes of Wisdom has been running better for me so far than Link's Awakening, which I stopped because it ran so poorly that I wasn't enjoying the game.
