The game sharing is awesome for families like mine that have 5 Switch's. We have avoided buying digital games in the past because of not being able to share them. This digital cartridge thing is great! I hope Sony and Microsoft get on board with it as well.
I hope this expands to being able to sell digital games to other people. I know it wont, but it is nice to dream.

Virtual Game Card coming for digital games on Nintendo Switch. When purchasing the digital version of a game, it will be loaded onto your system as a "virtual game card", allowing you to play that title. Your digital games will lined up as 'virtual game cards' on a dedicated management screen. Here you can load, and eject your VGC and manage which games you can play on your system. coming via a system update in late April.

Loading on a Second System:
If you have two Nintendo Switch systems, you can eject the VGC from one, and load it onto the second. Now you can play this game on the second system whenever and wherever you want, just as if you had inserted a game card. With VGCs, you can freely load and arrange which games you can play on up to two systems. Local connection with your first system is required, but only the first time. You can also lend VGCs to your Nintendo Account Family group members. You can only lend one game at a time to a particular person. Games can be lent out for two weeks, after which they will automatically return to you. Making digital games even easier to use.

Is this even an improvement?

As long as they don't tighten existing restrictions, then yes adding this feature is an legit improvement. I worry that it will quietly come with a background changes to "primary console" offline privileges.

Is this even an improvement?
To me yes. I have a regular Switch and a Switch Lite that I use personally and currently, the regular Switch is set as my primary Switch. That means when I am offline on my Switch Lite, I can't play any of my digital games. With this, now I would be able to transfer the license from the regular Switch to my Switch lite on a game I want to play and play it offline. If any of my kids want to play my digital games on the Switch they have, I can send it to them for the 14 days.

I was half paying attention to the Direct and at first that is what I thought the Marvel game was.

I haven't watched it yet, but I did look it up when I saw your post, and the screenshots along with "beat 'em up" got me interested. And then, yeah, I immediately thought of the arcade X-Men from back in the day. Had a lot of great times shoving quarters in there as a kid. That and The Simpsons Arcade. Bring that back, too.

I wasn't really buying things on the PS store at the time, so I didn't know those were both made available there (and on the Xbox). That would have been nice. But, by the time I found out that those were on console, all I could find was people lamenting that it was delisted. Too late to the party. Ah, well. :)

Yeah, the digital game sharing is a step up from just everyone putting their profiles on everyone elses systems and turning off cloud saves from the non-primary switches and people just play under your profile on their system. This cleans it up so you just loan them the game and they don't have to deal with the whole check to see if the game is currently being played. Requring the systems be on the same wifi is the main step backwards, but at least for my family we do see eachother enough that we could make use of this. Though, I'm probably still buying physical games for games in the main series I follow (or games that just tick a lot of boxes and seem worthy of having a physical copy).

My hype for Prime 4 just deflated to nothing after that. I think Prime Remastered actually has better visuals. The combat still looks exactly the same as it did 23 years ago. I'll still play it, but I guess I was hoping this would be the game to push the series to new heights like BOTW did for Zelda. It's just going to be a safe iterative sequel that Nintendo could have made any time they wanted to.

Did you not see? Now Samus can open doors!

The direct was better than I expected. Some surprises and more MP4 Beyond. I thought Beyond looked a little underwhelming. The original trailer's graphics wowed me more. I only watched 1 min of these latest footage so I don't get spoiled but what I saw visually wasn't that impressive. This game screams Switch 2 upgrade to me. Hopefully we see the game in all it's glory next week. Nintendo Today was a nice quirky thing for them to do and I am liking the app so far.

Not for my family. My kid and I can play the same digital game simultaneously (and even online together) by his switch being my primary and my switch being my secondary. The ability to play the same game on two consoles at once seems to be lost.

While I know that's a use case that's otherwise impossible with physical carts and it's greedy of me to want to retain it, it still sounds like I'm paying twice as much for every game we want to play together moving forward to switch 2

Yep this is a downgrade for me who shares my account with my sister so she can play my games. Although people are pointing out it says it's opt in/out so maybe the same system we have been using will still stay with this new option as a new choice. Knowing Nintendo though we will just have to wait for the update to drop to truly see if that's the case.

It might be opt in/out on Switch but on Switch 2 they'll change it so you are buying virtual game cards for Switch 2 games.

According to Insider Gaming:
Retailers are expecting that they will run out of pre-order units for the Nintendo Switch 2 on day 1, despite Nintendo allegedly accumulating a large quantity for launch.
That’s according to internal emails and documents provided to Insider Gaming from a large US retailer, who are anticipating they will sell out of the Switch 2 on the same day they open up the pre-orders due to a limited unit allocation from Nintendo.

According to the documents, the Switch 2 is scheduled to release in June, a release month that has already been a widely rumoured and was a highly talked about by developers at this year’s GDC.

According to the documents from the US retailer, pre-orders are set to go live on April 9th, one week after the Nintendo Switch 2 direct. The documents include a messaging strategy following the direct to include “Pre-Order Coming Soon” messaging and a Countdown Clock that will end on April 9, with an exact time to be confirmed by Nintendo on April 2.

The documents also included details on a exclusive collectible coin for those who pre-order the console.

Knowing Nintendo this will probably be true to curb gamesharing on switch 2. I will wait to see how the first year or two for switch 2 goes and then see if I want to buy it still. I didn't get a Switch until the beginning of 2023 so I can wait for exclusives to build up plus I have a lot of games in my backlog for it still.

Zelda movie coming out 3-26-27 per Nintendo today app.

Strange times... a Horizon spin-off game on NS, and a Zelda movie made by Sony (granted Sony's film dept and not the games dept).

I was kinda excited until I read it was live action... figured after the Super Mario Bros movie, it would be an animated movie.

I’m looking at putting in another woot order today and had a question regarding dlc if the cart is from a different region. I want to grab Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity from woot, but I also want to eventually pick up the dlc for it too. If the Woot copy ends up being a different region, would I still be able to purchase the DLC, or would I have to set up a different region’s account to purchase it? Thanks for the help!

Age of Calamity runs fine on the Switch outside of a few moments where there are just too many enemies on the screen and it's slows a little (which I found kind of helpful in those moments). I finished the whole game not long after it released and have no complaints. it was a great followup to Breath of the Wild as a sort of sequel and prequel (since it takes place in the past but with stuff from the future affecting it).

Wow, it's going to be an hour. I could deal with 6am CT as I'm up already by then... 6am PT I'll be starting my day at work. I guess I'll just try to stay off the internet once it starts and tune in when I get done with morning stuff and pick through it as the day goes on.

Everything I've read about the game says the frame rate is terrible.

It's funny how he says pretty much the same thing about the first level (which is the one with the worst issues on frame rate) but then goes on to play some of a later level and has little to no complaints about how it runs and can't really reproduce any of what he's describing. The game runs pretty smoothly. There is some slow down when you pop open a menu that is part of the actual game, but the framerate isn't dipping... that's the game giving you extra time to make a selection of weapon. Which, really, that video is a good example of what's wrong with people crapping on the performance of Age of Calamity. The first area, sure, it has some issues. It's an absolutely monsteous level in size... but the game isn't that most of the time and like the guy in the video, it runs well even for someone like him who is very overly senstitive to a frame rate dip.

Most of his complains are because he played Hyrule Warriors and remembers it not having any issues. Of course that game was more confined areas and didn't have quite the major theme going for it as AoC which is a BOTW game with Mosou added instead of a Mosou game that happens to have Zelda assets like Hyrule Warriors did.

I would be playing single player but here is just one of many examples that scare me away
Pretty much every post on reddit talks about the terrible framerate so I might as well wait to see if it runs better on Switch 2.
I got 100% in Age of Calamity and it's DLC. It's one of the few Switch games I kept. Fun game, but yeah the framerate is awful. Especially compared to Hyrule Warriors: DE. I played docked and it doesn't keep a steady 30 fps. The worst culprit is that it has uneven frame pacing. Still fun and playable, but I doubt the Switch 2 can fix frame pacing issues with brute force.

Quick update on my backlog purge. I forgot to post this since I've been busy the last month or so. I went from 88 Switch games down to 25. I've had great success selling my games at the local swap & shop. Sold over 120 games between Switch, PS5 & PS4. It's been nice to have shelf space & actually opening/completing games I want to play. I'll add pics of the last batch of games sold & my final collection. Only my favorites that I'll come back to over the years.

Going to buy the Switch 2 eventually, but will stick to exclusives I will immediately open & play. The days of buying games just because are over for me.
