For those wonder about picking one up in Mexico and bringing it back.....

Nah, I'm talking about buying the console domestic and using the internet like people have been doing with the switch for ages to buy their digital games in other markets. Of course Nintendo might block this with the Switch 2, though that's going to burn a lot of Switch 1 users.

Just is an awful time for a console launch just being honest. I'll likely just wait and see on everything as I go into the mines of my backlog hopefully finding some gems.
Make sure you bring a canary with you.

Let me know if you find any gold out in dem thar hills.

I need to start giving impressions of non demos for console games too. I've gotten so used to Steam games just after a demo/playing for a bit I make comments in a word document and give a preliminary grade usually. I'm barely playing Super Mario Wonder right now so I'm way more behind on some of my console backlog. Super Mario Wonder is just one of those good not great games, though the style is great and it's good for short bursts.

Meanwhile people in Japan are just walking around the promenade, checking out the cherry blossom trees blooming, enjoying their quiet and peaceful lives, and probably the NSW2 news too. Gosh 'normal' sure sucks, doesn't it.

Pfft, Wanting things to be “normal” is for apathetics, conservatives and moderates. Their time is over- the reactionaries are in charge now. And after they tank the economy and there is a backlash, the progs will take over, who will then fuck things up in their own special way. Rinse and repeat for years and years, until maybe someday voters stop listening to the political lunatics and mind virus peddlers in their toxic social media feeds (lol, unlikely).

We are all sitting on backlogs like dragons guarding a hoard of gold, so now is the time to dig in to it. Other hobbies will remain affordable so we can still entertain ourselves during these self-inflicted dystopian times. The weather’s getting good and a yearly state park pass for the whole family costs less than a video game. They are replenishing fish populations right now everywhere, so go get a rod and fishing license and catch yourself dinner a couple times a week. Hell, I even bought a beehive, supplies and a queen and her colony last year for a fraction of the cost of the switch 2 price. I got more honey than I’ve ever seen in my life, was able to give it away as bday and Xmas gifts, and now I am even brewing mead like my viking ancestors. And there is nothing more zen than doing my weekly beekeeping.

Now is not the time to spend a grand on a new system, games and accessories anyway. Things are about to get rough in the economy. The reality show clown in the white house literally had one of his back-office employees use ChatGPT to come up with these tariffs and upend the global trade system, while he went golfing for the weekend. This is who is in charge right now.

(And *SHE* had no business being in charge either, having not won a single primary, being chosen as VP on the basis of skin color and gender above all else, and being complicit in covering up the severe mental decline of the former Skeksis president for years. So don’t get too smug libs)

This is probably for the best. The NES launched at $200. Nintendo can take this opportunity to properly account for inflation and price the Switch 2 at $600. $1000 would not be unreasonable for a highly anticipated luxury item like this. Wanting $400 consoles and $60 games is blatantly disrespectful to Nintendo.

/s for the slow folks

Looks to Me Like I'll Just Get a Switch 2 Mario Kart Bundle Easier if Everyone Opts Out Due to Price Increase, Right? I Still Want The Switch2 Bundle and Maybe a Couple of Games - Happy Hunting -

Yea, unless Target has some % off deal that for some reason works for Switch 2 I think I will wait. I am five hours into Xenoblade Chronicles X so I have a lot to play there, and since it doesnt look like there is a Switch 2 upgrade for it there is no reason for me to bother getting one until I finish this. If nothing else I can wait and get one in 4 years!

It looks ok. I've actually warmed up to uniform spines, like the Switch and Xbox, because of the way they look on the shelf. Everything looks too chaotic and random with the cover art wrapping around.

No mistaking it's Switch 2 and not Switch 1 lol

A modder found an unfinished 60 fps mode in Xenoblade X, so there's a chance that gets finished up and implemented for Switch 2.

going to have a hard time figuring out if you got a generic case for switch 2 games from gamestop now, assuming any of these switch 2 games are actually on the cartridge.

The switch 2 enhanced games being switch one carts with a download codes, it makes sense they’d do this, it’s a switch 1 game meant to still work on a regular switch regardless of if you have the original game digital or physical. Like PS5 enhanced game stuff, it’s all downloads to for ps4 discs. Right?

in theory yes, but i don't remember buying any ps5 games that had ps4 discs inside them and a code for the upgrade to the ps5 version. it seems kinda scummy to sell a switch 1 game in a switch 2 game case, just put the damn thing on a switch 2 cart or leave it alone and let the upgrade appear on the eshop for all the old switch games that can be upgraded.

It's wild that they can't give old games like Zelda and Kirby normal price cuts and then bundle the DLC/upgrades for $50. I wish we could see the development costs for Kirby. They could have probably priced it at $40 and still made a killing.

So you pay extra for the Switch 2 version of the game and get the switch 1 and the switch 2 upgrade, but the upgrade is essentially non transferable DLC, so you only resell "part" of the game. Smart move on their part.

Yeah like Tesla. From what I understand, you pay extra for self-driving and it doesn't transfer to another owner if you sell.

All "Switch 2 Games" All Completely on cartridge or it's absolutely pointless.. games complete and Switch 2 playable only.. we already have Zelda BOTW or TOTK.. Kirby.. this & that for the original Switch and they played just fine.

Why offer the Mario Kart bundle? Seems like they are simultaneously saying Mario Kart is worth $50 and $80. Afraid the $450 console wouldn't sell enough? If it's an anti-scalper thing, why not only sell the bundle...maybe stock will be 90% bundle and 10% console-only.

Because you get people to spend more money on the bundle thinking they're saving money and then spending that savings on more games and accessories.

because it's a (not so) gentle nudge towards digital.

"Okay Timmy, would you like one booster shot, or two? you get to choose." It's the illusion of choice. Of course most everyone (buyer) is going to choose the Mario Kart bundle. Plus it starts them down that path.

This will be interesting to see if the backlash translates to slower sales. Of course it'll initially sell well, or maybe we'll have a repeat of a 3DS's launch.

Nintendo has the unenviable position of being the first major consumer electronic launch right in the midst of these tariffs.

It’s not even launches either but I’m sure most major companies were stockpiling or at least dramatically increasing inventory of existing product in the US in anticipation of this. As a new product, they don’t have that luxury.

It’s gonna get bad if this sticks around for very long, and if it lasts into mid-late summer when inventory buildup for Christmas would start happening?

I think Nintendo genuinely has no idea what to do at this point, just not sell in the US? That’s crazy given we’re their biggest market. Raise the price to account for the tariffs? 25-30% increase on top of the prices people were already balking at? Also nuts.

Wait it out and hope dumbass comes to his senses? That seems to be where they’re at now given they’re holding the release date but if they want to hold that date with only 2 months left those units have to be on the verge of getting shipped now so are they just gonna pay the tariff, increase the price for US? I genuinely have no idea what they can do at this point.

The tariff increases are on wholesale price. But of course dumbass Trump is making imports from Vietnam 46% as of the 9th… which is where Nintendo moved its manufacturing in anticipation of issues with China. So the situation which was bad with the universal 10% threat, now is probably not with tarnishing the image of the company with a $850 or whatever bundle.

if I were Nintendo, given the launch lineup isn’t exactly Mario 3D platformer or new Zelda, I’d try to get an exemption and failing that, just not launch here. Keep pushing any announcement and wait to open preorders and if all fails, push it to the fall or even 2026. There are still good switch games coming this year. They can wait.

Mario Kart is their best selling franchise. It's pretty obvious they are going to use it to push console sales. Mario Kart is also the only 1st party game ready to go at launch. Apparently Donkey Kong, Kirby and Metroid are all coming later.

I fully expect Nintendo's first batch of consoles to sell out. It's after the initial sales that will paint the real picture.

I honestly couldn't envision a more nightmare scenario for Nintendo fans. They've just been priced out of their favorite console. Nintendo have always been the cheapest out of the big 3, but not anymore. It's not uncommon for people to buy multiple switches. I couldn't imagine this Christmas a family needing to buy multiple switches for their kids, games, joy cons, subscription services. You're easily looking into the thousands of dollars. Good luck with that!

At least when Playstation raised prices on their games it could at least be justified because they spend hundreds of millions of dollars on their 1st party games. When Xbox sells their Series X for $500, it's because it's the most "powerful" console on the market. Nintendo raised prices just out of pure Greed. Their games cost on average $30 million to make and their console uses outdated tech. In comparison, Red Dead Redemption 2 had a massive budget of $540 million dollars and Rockstar still only charge $60 for the game.

People blaming the increase in price on tarrifs are just fear mongering and have absolutely no idea how tarrifs work because cognitive dissonance won't allow them to fathom that they've just been betrayed in favor of pure corporate greed. If tarrifs was truly the reason for the price increase then riddle me this, why is the price so high in EVERY single other country outside of the US? We know that Nintendo likes to make a profit on their consoles as well as their games, so if they can afford to sell the Switch 2 in Japan for $330us and still make a profit then that tells you everything you need to know about how much you're being price gouged. I never thought Nintendo would be the one to crash the video game industry but here we are!

Tariffs (not tarrifs) can lead to a trade war of retaliatory tariffs, a condition where prices will increase (inflation) across the board on a wide range of consumer good end products and their material inputs involved in manufacturing on the producer's side. It has nothing to do with fear, it's directly tied to the actions of government and people don't even have the choice to fear and choose, they're simply subjected to its outcomes.

The tarriffs are simply to line politicians pockets with back room deals on the backs of the american people. It isnt going to undo the last thirty or so years of becoming more integrated with the world for consumer goods productions or raw materials.

As for Nintendo making a Japanese only langage version and charging less. The yen is weak. The economy in Japan is weak. they are likely taking a loss on this version of the system. If they made the multi-language version cheap like this it would get scalped to hell. Not just by foreigners but locals buying to resell out of country. Of course there are people that just hate Nintendo and will try to use this to make some smartass point about Nintendo screwing all the other countries, but those people have their own agenda. Which is pretty sad. Like, no one has to buy anything. Go play whatever you enjoy and maybe go outside and touch grass.

I don't believe tariffs have anything to do with the pricing. The price of the console is actually fair. It's a very powerful hybrid console, it was never going to be cheap if you want it to actually perform up to 2025 standards. If they raise the price from here then we can blame tariffs, but I don't think $399 was ever on the table.

The software pricing is nothing more than Nintendo being greedy. If sales take a hit I expect them to drop games back down to $60.
