FAQ:
  • What is this thread? A massive collection of limited edition games & other attributing items, included with links.
  • Why put it all in one thread? More traffic due to collaborating interests.
  • Why is that important? This keeps the thread popular and doesn't risk a failed CE from falling through the cracks unnoticed.
  • What can be discussed here? Anything relevant to what is posted.
  • Why make another CE compilation? Karma.
  • Where are the big pictures? Still here, scroll down. Due to the increased number of CEs, a preface post is needed.
  • When is the Final Fantasy XVI CE? Not announced. Granted, IF it does, you can bet I will devote an entire page to it.
  • What about other CEs that have been announced? Give me a minute. It takes a bit of time to format the title, price, date, & retailer links in correctly.
  • What about the Book/Steelbook/Console/Misc. Picture Posts? I condensed the thread. Not necessary to include pictures for all those items. They will still be included in the Everything List post.

I was lucky and BB sent Monster Hunter and Avowed in boxes. Walmart has been sending movie steelbook in thin mailers.

I'm looking forward to the AC Shadows CE. I had to cancel and reorder when they dropped the price, but it stayed in stock for a while. PS5 version is gone, but Xbox is still there. I do like the Target steelbook more though.

Target has its own steelbook….? Never knew.

I have two AC shadows CE preorders from the original announcement day. One in store. One online. I believe in store they auto price adjust with the new lower price. Looks like my online order is still showing full rate.

I know no one cares, but kinda funny. Speak of the devil and he appears:

Horizon-2.jpg

literally three days ago I bought my first copy of Forbidden West for $9.97 haha. This is why none of us should want physical games to go away.

It's a really big deal to me. This is how I gain minor assets, and accrue secondary titles. build a library and catalogue. I've been thinking A LOT about where we are firmly headed with consoles lately, and have come to several major revelations.
Sony is being sued again for this exact reason, or how it relates to digital sales to be clear. Physical games will go away, but the fact is they need to be replaced with a retailer solution to drive competition on price. This is why I lean so hard on game pass because games on digital storefronts not named Steam are inflated pricing because they control the market. I still have Cyberpunk sealed from a $10 sale that happened maybe 3-4 years ago now and yet has it EVER fallen below $20 digitally on Xbox or PS? Yeah, this shit needs to absolutely be regulated at some point which if enough lawsuits pile up, should get noticed.

Surprised to see this topic come back. Triple Click (an excellent podcast) this week talks about the souring videogame industry, and the bleak future that seems likely to lie ahead. Fact is people are buying fewer and fewer games -- and these "black hole" games are simply eating all/most of the precious time folks have. New games are basically fighting over a sliver of a pie, and the AAA budgets just don't work anymore.

Are consoles on the way out? I wouldn't be too quick to say that, necessarily. Analysts have predicted the end of consoles before and they've been wrong every time. May be they'll be right this time but may be Sony will figure out how to re-balance budgets -- manage tighter ships, rein in budgets and move away from AAA games or make games shorter experiences and sell them at lower prices.

There needs to be a reckoning to fix a model that is definitely broken and divorced from the market. You can't spend 8-10 years making a game and pour hundreds of millions of dollars into development when you're ultimately fighting over a quarter of a pie because the other 3/4s of that pie are Minecraft, Fortnite, and Roblox. It makes zero business sense.

Unfortunately, right now, there are little signs Sony and other big publishers know at all what they're doing. WB is almost assuredly toast; Ubisoft is hanging on for dear life; EA survives by preying on people's anxieties and addictions; and Take Two releases two games every three console generations. There is something very broken here. Nintendo is the anomoly, but even Switch numbers show the vast majority of Nintendo Switch owners basically only buy Nintendo games. That works for Nintendo but does that really work for everyone else? And what happens when the Switch userbase gets smaller (and smaller) - especially if Microsoft, Sony, and Steam go all-in on hybrid consoles/handhelds?

It's all a sorry state -- and it's going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better. In the end, a lot of what's happened was self-inflicted. The suits - like in the movie industry - made incredibly incompetent decisions that have devalued the very products they make. From Game Pass to moving exclusives to PC, Sony and Microsoft (though I'd argue it's more Microsoft) has taken this industry in absolutely the wrong direction. They stupidly learned nothing from what's happened to the movie business. They've trained their consumers to NOT spend money, and then they wonder why there is no growth.

The decisions they're making are pushing away the gamers that loved and helped build this industry. Indeed, it's looking more and more like I'm done with PlayStation after the PS5 (been done with Xbox since the 360) since the signs increasingly are pointing to them abandoning disc drives next-gen (or making them an accessory which pretty much makes it a premium product that's going to be sparingly supported). It also doesn't help that Sony keeps chasing service games -- and appears to have one exclusive a year. That all said, I'm not of the opinion that PS5 has been a desert for games. That's just not true. There are plenty of excellent releases (unlike YouTubers and industry journalists, we plebs don't have all-day to play videogames). There is more than enough on PS5 for plebs to play and nowhere enough time to enjoy what's there.

And that is the big fatal fact -- they're aren't too few games. There are too many and no one is buying them.

Well, for physical media guys like me, looks like Switch 2 will be the last hurrah for physical media gamers ... and let's face it, even Nintendo isn't immune to the urge to release unfinished games (see Mario Golf, Splatoon 3) and feed off DLC that should have come with the game in the first place.

At least we all have our backlogs :) Rant over ...
A lot to unpack there but consoles are done as they were. I think handheld has a future at this point but numbers support PC is growing fast as the console market plateaued. A lot of good will from Valve being a safe haven has to do with it and I do believe MS is leaning into that by growing their catalogue and maintaining availability through back-cap. Suffice to say, Sony has less won a territory so much as had it conceded to them after being stripped of all value.

I honestly don't even care. I've been PC gaming for over 25 years now (as well as owning ever major console) and these "consoles" are basically just PCs in a shell at this point anyway. Microsoft knows it makes more sense to avoid selling cutting edge consoles at a loss just to gain royalties on games when you can just skip the middle man, Sony will realize this too eventually... Nintendo will probably be the last OG console because they knew long ago that you can't loose when you're actually making money selling the hardware along with a shit town of exclusive games and over priced accessories. Them along with Apple and I are one of the few electronics companies that can make a technologically inferior electronics product and still have people pay more than the competition off name alone.
Well, more like Sony may realize it now but are an electronics company first. At that point, do you divest the company to save it or end up like Hasbro choking the life out of it's flagship to save a ship full of trash?

I may be interested in Wilds. I’ve never played any of the MH series before. Was hoping to get the dualsense controller though. Having a hard time importing one at a reasonable price. Even tried day one preorders from Amazon JP and it appears to have sold out instantly.
I'd say this is the best time to dive in honestly, both from refined classes (gunlance is so fucking good right now) and difficulty. However, it is a STEEP learning curve and even though you can go in blind and win during the main story; it will wreck you after the credits roll if you're not prepared to do some research. I myself have been completely derping my way through the game and plan to git gud tonight after some heavy research into the new combos and builds doing well.

Easy to get into, very hard to master. I'd recommend anything with a shield at first to get some practice in with SnS being one of the top picks.

No physical copy = no buy. Maybe there will be a deluxe edition with a physical copy. This doesn't even have a steelbook.

This is the way everything is trending unfortunately. Xbox is even further down the rabbit hole with their newest models don't even have a disc drive, even many of their standard editions are digital only anymore. Only a matter of time before Xbox discontinues physical copies altogether. I'm not sure how they could sell physical copies when they've discontinued consoles that have disc drives. Wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.

Just got charged for AC Shadows CE... I completely forgot I had it preordered. Hopefully the game is good, otherwise, gonna have to deal with the return.

Did GameStop try to scam you with the original higher $280 price? I preordered say one online last year. My preorder still shows $280. I called GameStop customer service who told me they can’t fix the price and take it to a store after it ships to have the local store fix it.

I know the employees at my local store well and they laughed. We all agreed it isn’t the local stores problem to fix the website issues.

Edit:
Looks like GameStop fixed the price and either stocked more or lots of canceled preorders. It’s still available to order today.

No, my order was updated to show the correct price.

EDIT* I was able to hit the cancel button on my order still but just says cancellation in process. Normally when I cancel POs, it's immediate I guess it's them attempting to cancel it.

Silent Hill f steelbook seems to ship to the US with shop app and $40 shipping. Other countries are exclusive to game it seems.

My GameStop online order of AC shadows shipped today. Says march 19 delivery. My in store preorder should be good for march 20.

How does Target handle returns of games that have a pre order bonus like a steelbook? Is it as easy as Best Buy?

How was Best Buy worked for you?

For target, the preorder bonus rings up as $0.05 typically. GameStop bonuses aren’t inventories. Best Buy charges $10 for their preorder bonus.

For Best Buy it depended on the rep, sometimes I would get a full refund or charged $10.

I cancelled my preorder at GS and they shipped it anyway... Now I gotta return it... Bleh. I don't even know where my nearest GS ate anymore either since the two closest ones closed recently.

I still have several near me, i’d about four under 60km.

My online preorder did ship as I did that one day one last year in May 2024, in case it was rare or hard to get. then I did an in store as well, moreso to ensure I get a mint version as I don’t trust anything shipping anymore. the last time I had a CE shipped from gamestop, which was the only option as no store had stock, was Metaphor PS5. A warehouse or store employee purposely destroyed it and cut it deeply with a box cutter before they packed and shipped it.

The store exclusive Steelbooks for Ubisoft games shifted to Target from GameStop starting last year with SW Outlaws.

I wonder if the Target Steelbook is the same as the one in the GS exclusive CE?

Completely different. I can post some photos. The target steelbook artwork is the box artwork for the GameStop ce.

seems no one's that interested in ac shadows huh. I played a bit and it's good gameplay and graphics wise. not near ghost of tsushimas lvl of course

i’m interested and already own a few editions. i just wont be playing it any time soon.

i expected it to be significantly better than Tsushima based on Ubisoft being the originator of this type of game. I loved Tsushima though it got stale after a while as the interior environments and the looting was very repetitive. I’m currently playing Stellar Blade and I hope an auto loot feature is added to shadows if it isn’t there already.

I played through the prologue last night, and I'll say that I actually thought it was substantially better than I was expecting. Playing in immersive mode (no English) definitely helps make it feel more authentic. I'm not finding the graphics on the characters overly perfect but as a whole the game is beautiful. The coloring and the way the scenes in the prologue are all laid out work really well. Controls feel good both on the free running and climbing as well as the combat.

In a way it feels fresh for me but I think that may be because I've separated myself for so long now from the franchise. Last game I really played was AC Syndicate. After that I tried Mirage but tbh I thought it completely sucked. I know they were going for the "classic AC" feel but it just played like shit I thought

wtf, foreign copies of games are knock offs but you measure distance in km?

Wow, 4 within 60km... guess I shouldn't complain, I have 20 within 30 KM (that's 18 fake miles), but I also have a very dense area and traffic can be a bitch.

and you see no irony in that?

Grew up in the US. My collection has always been esrb/NA based. Yet I travel worldwide and chat international daily. I’ll be away international next week and have to use global measurement systems.

Games are typically made in the US or Japan so I only collect those regions. UK/Europe editions are different specifications so I don’t collect those.

I just can't with you anymore.

walkin up to united arabs yelling them that their games aren't real.

The banter here is quite funny. I grew up with region locked things. So I’ve only ever collected the same region my console is from. Sure I use a funny term, fake is not true to the word.

If you offered me free uae or pegi games, I would not add it to my collection. I’d rather pay for ‘proper’ esrb versions.

My copy won't be delivered until Monday. Maybe I'm alone, but I'm not looking at it compared to Tsushima. I just want to play a new AC game.
Well, my copy came today...with no steelbook and no preorder DLC. There's no point in ordering a Ubisoft game if the preorder bonuses don't come in, since they drop in price so fast.

From Target (since you mentioned SB)? Didn't realize there's supposed to be DLC, I just got the game and steelbook in my package. Is it supposed to be emailed out like BestBuy normally does or is the game itself different (my copy doesn't say anything about preorder DLC on the box).

Oh, yes, sorry I didn't specify. From what I saw online there's supposed to be a card or something in the package for the dlc, but others didn't get it, specifically from Target. All preorders from anywhere included the extra mission and future expansion dlc.

I spoke with Target support. The first guy didn't even know what a steelbook is. Took describing a steelbook and literally spelling it out about 5 times before he escalated it. The next guy took about 20 mins before saying they could do nothing and offer nothing. So I'm returning it. I want to play it, but I have enough (like some Game Pass games before my sub expires in June) that I can wait for the usually Ubisoft price drop.

I thought mirage was a cool change. Not a big fan of the open world games they've made. I skipped Valhalla and odyssey I think was the name. I enjoyed black flag and mirage was good enough. Could be better though. I Guess so far im not that immersed with ac shadows yet cuz the story isn't anything special and it's open world. I'm playing it on Japanese and it's not bad so far
