Official Final Fantasy VI Advance Thread. Release date: 02/05/07
Now, I know this is just the rabbid fanboy flaring up in me, but Death Gaze? What the fuck is that about?
I'm going to hazard a guess - Deathgaze may be a more accurate translation, but Nintendo being Nintendo, it was changed to Doomgaze because, well, it didn't have 'death' in it.

Why is that spoilered? I'm glad they're at LEAST keeping the names of the main characters that fans of the original came to love. Death Gaze is no big deal, and I knew full well that it was the original Japanese translation, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. "Doom Gaze" sounds awesome.

I'll have to pre-order this on my lunch break one day this week. I should probably try and finish up FFIII and V by then, but I doubt that'll happen.

Wow, I had no idea this was so close to release. I already stalled on FFXII when I bought my Wii, now it looks like the Wii will be sitting a while. This is probably the first RPG I really sat down and took the time to complete (probably because it's the first one I actually owned and hadn't just borrowed from somebody). And since I never knew about the glitches/tricks I guess I won't be missing much.

Still have my FFIII cart, but no working SNES any more, I can't wait for this damn game.
And FFVI music = :D
Don't get too hyped. Of FFIVA, FFVA, and now FFVIA, this one has the worst ported music. Having messed with the Jap ROM I can say it's faithful, but the way in which the original FFVI so masterfully took advantage of the SNES' sound chip, this just seemed somewhat hollow and lacking on the GBA.

So how bad is it? Like, does the music just sound like it has different instrumentation, or does it sound garbled? I'm hoping that the various extras will be enough to make this remake feel like a better option than the SNES original.

If this one isn't up to par, I have my complete copy on the shelf until I get around to selling it once the VC release is announced.

I just ravaged some poor guy's bandwidth last night to download the full 400MB of FFVI OST, Grand Finale, and Piano Collection. :D

The piano collection for VI is absolutely phenomenal. I might grab the CD of it sometime, but for now, I'm playing the sheet music... I'm so glad they released that.

The US commercial was awesome. With Mog holding monster tryouts, and then zapping all of them into dust.

"Ooooo! Sca-weee!"

Like several others in this thread, I'll be purcashing this when it first hits the shevles. I'll be putting my cheap-ass-ness aside and purchase it at full price. This is the first of the FF series I've played (on the SNES) and absolutely fell in love with it.

Agreed. I'm considering getting an SP just for this. I hate playing GBA games on my DS :(

Just set the the GBA mode to the top screen, there is no reason to play this on an SP unless you cart the damn thing around everywhere.

The brighter screen of the DS > SP

I certainly hope that by "2-D and 3-D Final Fantasys being in different leagues" you mean that FF III / VI absolutely OWNS them. Seriously. 3-D != better game.

And while FF7 was decent, it was really a weak Final Fantasy VI / Chrono Trigger amalgam. Good, but nowhere near either of those two games. I like for my plots to MAKE SENSE.

And for the record, Dragon Warrior VI is easily as good as FF VI. Seriously, go get the patch and play. It's translated enough to be playable to the end. Would be a great choice for a remake or a VC release.

Sarge out.

Paid mine off yesterday. Don't forget to AVOID this one at GameStop/EB! They're charging the absurd $34.99 price for it again! The OP should put this in the title!

I paid mine off at GameCrazy because I had credit there and they only charge $29.99, Best Buy and any other normal retailer should follow with that pricing!

Best Buy has a deal going on where if you buy this with any other advertised DS / GBA game you'll get a $10 gift card.

I was gonna get this and Diddy Kong Racing anyways.. I won't mind a free $10 gift card.

Awesome, thanks for pointing that out. The one time I neglect to read the weekly ads way in advance, and I miss something I'm actually interested in. I'll grab FFVI and DKR, and then probably turn around and use the $10 gift card on Cooking Mama. I think I have a few $5 Certificates to print, too.

Reward Zone Membership is free now, so that's no big deal - everyone should get one anyways. I'm hoping they'll at least allow one GGC to be used.. if they don't, no big deal, since that $10 gift card + another GGC lets me get any other DS game for 50% off if I was so inclined (or a classic controller for wii for $5!).

But yea, totally not a bad deal, espicially if you were getting FFVI and want to throw down the $20 for something like Cooking Mama or were really interested in Diddy Kong Racing, because Nintendo's games don't go on sale very often.

I can get a Reward membership for free?

TELL ME HOW, EARTH MAN.

I probably just go to the store for this.

I could pick up Cooking Mama for essentially $10 if that is the case.

http://www.myrewardzone.com/

Free Membership.

Been that way for a couple of months, which is way it seems silly to have these types of deals since everyone can be an RZ member (and should). It takes a lot of points to get a $5 cert now but it adds up quickly if you shop at Best Buy for everything (I do).

But yea, can do this at the store too.

Makes sense because they want to track people's purchases and add people to their mailing lists. That's why they require it for sales... consider it a heavy incentive.
So where is this Best Buy deal advertised? I checked the ad in the paper, the ad online, and the rzone thing and didn't catch it.
It starts Sunday.

I guess I'm the only one who didn't cheat at Final Fantasy 6 when I beat it back in the day. All these glitches/hacks are all news to me.

Going to use this game to break in my new sealed Micro that has been sitting in my closet for a few months. I think the last time I beat this was 5 years ago on a ROM. Loved it but it went to shit during the World of Ruin.

I heard RPGs are really tough on the Micro, because the screen is so small it's hard to read the text. Personally, I've never played one, but it may be something to look into before you crack it open.

Never had an issue playing FF1, 2, or 4 on my Micro.

I do have good eye sight though.

I think it's workable, but a nice GBA SP is preferable.

Getting in that RPG mood again... purchased Summon Night 1+2, and now waiting for this to be released (I just recently beat FFIII, talk about irony). I was watching some of the videos on youtube, and sadly the music quality is slightly lower, but everything else seems the same. Playing it on emulation felt so cheap, but back then I didn't have much of a choice since I was poor/jobless and had no ways of "borrowing" a SNES along with a cart of FF6. Now I will pay my dues by buying a "port" as well as any other ways they wish to exploit my wallet with this gem.

This is my second favorite roleplaying game of all time (Sorry folks, Suikoden 2 *STILL* takes the cake) tied with CT. Final Fantasy 7 was fun, but man Square really dropped the ball compared to the quality in this game.

Can't wait to beat the game again, and this time I'll do it on my GBA player.

I enjoyed Chrono Trigger, but never got to finish it. Is FFVI a must buy? :)

I know that there are random battles in this one plus a lot more party management. (4 parties?)

I've seen the video before

Kefka is the best villain in my opinion

he reminds me of a Joker

he has no motive

no logic

just pure madness
I enjoyed Chrono Trigger, but never got to finish it. Is FFVI a must buy? :)

(4 parties?)
There are only multiple parties at a few points in the game, but personally I thought those were some of the best parts of the game. Have you ever played FFII/IV? It's very similar in style to that game, but improved in just about every way.

Hrm. I had this huge post here waffling on whether or not I'd get FF6A depending on the GBA port's sound quality -- but I think I'll hold off until the reviews before really making a decision. A big deal for me is the improved and much-touted localization/translation.
Off Topic: Check out this Kefka Cosplay
... holy crap. Now that's just awesome. The guy really DOES have it down, even the laugh! (I also cosplay, so seeing awesome costumes and performances really strikes a good chord.)

That Kefka cosplay made me LOL. Usually Cosplayers drive my murder urge up, but that was great. The "mama's boy" comment was the best!

Tuesday can't come fast enough!

Now it's simply a matter of plowing through the rest of Hotel Dusk this weekend so that I'm all set for Tuesday (not that I'm minding such a nice distraction, but this is the wrong topic for that).

Been playing this on my PSP, but I'll prob throw down the cash to own it on GBA, if for nothing else but to own FF1-12 (except for X-2, still gotta hunt down another copy).
So, its looking like there won't be a guide released this time? Can't find anything by Brady or Nintendo.
The fellow at GameCrazy that put in my pre-order wasn't able to locate a guide in their inventory either. Strange that someone wouldn't throw one together, considering it's an old game and 99% of the content of it could be recycled. Seems like an easy buck to make..

In other news, is this gonna be in stores tomrorow or tuesday? Nintendo published games seem to hit on odd days, sometimes mondays..
