Official Final Fantasy VI Advance Thread. Release date: 02/05/07

Man, I was totally looking forward to the throat-cutting line used to describe Shadow. I think the younger generation who are picking up this title are going to be gypped. I guess it's rated E for everyone so they can sell more copies.

I haven't played the Anthologies version for the Playstation, so I'm curious did they censor that mess too?

After playing the first hour, there are already some differences from what I was told to expect from earlier previews. Namely, the moogle names still have the Mog prefix, whereas I guess the Japanese version used a Mol or Mul prefix.

I am at the floating continent now, and my feeling on the core of the script is that it is everything the old one was, it just explains things more clearly. I feel like the snes version I understood the subtle parts of the story more my second and third time through.

p.s. Woolsey's name isn't THAT well known, but he's the man responsible for localizing FFVI, Secret of Mana, AND Chrono Trigger, so you can see why some people (including yours truly) think he was a big deal. I've even heard rumors he did all of Secret of Mana in little more than a month, though I can't attest to how accurate that legend is.
I think Woolsey is pretty well known. There were a lot of limitation when he did the localization for FFVI. They couldnt add more space for text than what was in the Japanese version.

I find it odd that there appears to be compromises to the translation for this game, mainly due to the fact that FFIV Advance's translation was really good.

how long is this game time wise.

I was wondeirng if i should wait till Monday and hope Gamefly deliverys it (should came friday and still not here)

Or just buy it

if its at least 40 hours long i think it would be a smarter buy

Im talking about start to finsh with no major side tracking
If this is your first time playing the game and you're doing it with little or no walkthrough help, 40 hours sounds about right. How many of the characters you choose to level and how much you choose to level them can obviously effect that number. You can do it in much less than 40 hours if you know what you're doing. I don't think I've ever beaten it in less than about 26 or 28, but I've heard of people speed-running the SNES version in well under eight hours. Of course, that would take a lot of practice. I'd tell you to buy the game, but then I love it, so I'd tell anyone to buy it.

Final Fantasy has sucked me in once again. Forcing myself to stop at the first scenario selection two and a half hours in, or I'll just stay up all night.

Just as fun as I remember.

That's where I am, doing the Sabin one now.

sister never got off till 6pm last night so i didnt have time to run over to best buy. I just wait till monday and hope gamefly delivers it then. Since there is nothing i really see coming out that is MUST PLAY i will probally just rent it off gamefly instead of buying.

i was able to get dragon quest for the Ds game from goozex friday and just played that last night until 2 am ... That game must not be that long cause i put around 7 hours into it last night and have almost 70 slimes (i think out of 100?

dragon quest isn't a very long game it takes around 8-10 hour to beat.

so far, this year release is pretty good gamewith very few "must plays".Couple of decent game like phoenix wright 2,hotel dusk, lunar knights, rogue galaxy, wario smooth moves, final fantasy vi and lost planet.

I think virtua fighter 5,racket clank size matters, zelda hourglass and god of wars 2 will pick up slack for must play games for this year

Game moves a lot quicker when you're 26 than when you're 13... but still as awesome as ever. Got up to the defense of Narshe at around 4 and a half hours.

First trip on the Veldt reminded me of the dozens of hours I used to spend learning Rages.

is lunar knights a PURE rpg game like FF or more like that Bokai sun in your hand game. It looks more like the bokai type game on the previews

the first boktai game was more of stealth action/adventure game which played more like metal gear.As the series progress, boktai ii became more rpg style with more level experience and weapon customization.Lunar knight really plays more like new castlevania games. It undergo a huge overhall in battle system like castlevania games after symphony of the night .Konami want to attact more mainstream fans with simple fast pace battle system with much easier puzzles

Stealth mode is almost non existence in this game, the only stealth method is if you blow the mic, enemies will start moving that area.In order compeste for missing solar senor to sealed bosses, they replace with airplane were you go around in space shooting all sort of baddies.

Overall,is pretty fun game to try.The cutscene are pretty well done.Don't expect a long game it takes about 10 hours to beat and atleast 25 hours to complete if you decide to deal with boss rush mode and 100 floor tower.I think most annoying feature in this game is constantly have to walk back and forth change the weather.

Being this is the third time I'll be beating this game, it only took me 17 hours to complete all the side quests/secrets and such (outside of going to the final area and "secret" dungeon(s), and I think thats way too long. My complaint now being all the weapon name changes so I forgot what to bet at the colleseum and what I need for this and that. Blarg.

Oh well time to spend the next ten hours beating up dinosaurs till I'm 99 ;)

Lunar Knights is Boktai 4, but it got renamed outside Japan because of lackluster sales.

Really enjoying this.. Made the mistake of starting it up before finishing FFV advance.. Needed a break since I'm just mastering jobs by fighting endless Objet d' Art enemies in Castle of Bal basement in that one for a while.

They did a pretty good job with this, I'm very happy with music and everything. Assures me I'll be carrying my micro with me everywhere now.

Ok, I actually forget what to do next LOL

I just finished the Magitek factory...we picked up Terra via our hot ship, and I just went back to Narshe...and that's it. Where the heck do I go next ?!

If you've already talked to everyone there and forgotten, just go back and talk to them again. Otherwise, wait for me to continue playing tonight. ;) I assume Banon would tell you were to go.

got it today off gamefly (with yu gi oh ds game that just came out)

27.99 To keep it price even using the 10 Gamefly bucks i got Still makes it 18 bucks

STill a little too high for me. Hopefully they will drop it a little (find it funny they want 28 bucks for this but only 23 for the yu gi oh game even though they are the same price 30 new)

Since there is nothing new coming out that i need to play I will probally just beat it off gamefly. Unless i get bored with it and then buy it)

I feel like I am under-leveled, I did Lockes scenarios, and Im at the end of Sabin's, and he's at lvl 16, along with cyan at 17..... wheres everyone else at?

Entrance to the Sealed Cave
) at approximately 9 hours and Sabin is my highest level (besides Mog), 22. Everyone else is 17-20.

oh snap, nice.. well I got spanked
when I jumped off the cliff into the falls. on that purple fish thing
I guess I didnt have enough health and it did somethin' that knocked 280+ on cyan and sabin

I never realized how beautifully this game is designed. There are good save points almost every hour, so it works out perfectly for me since I rarely have the time available to veg out in front of the game as I did back in the day.

All I have to do is go whip that mofo's butt. Getting my chars to level 99 via beating Dinos over and over and over and over...

My party: Terra, Celes, Locke and Mog (He is uber with the 4x dragoon jump)

I think they also changed some of Kefka's laugh lines. I could of sworn he said Mwa Ha Ha more then Wee He He or whatever the heck hes saying this time around. Gesthal gets all the Mwa Ha Ha's.

Did anybody ever do a speed run on this game? My brother got through it in 10 hours. Too bad I let somebody borrow the game and they erased over that save.

And too bad I lost the game a few months ago.

Just beat the game. Probably could have finished in 20 hours but decided to level like hell in Dino land. Got bored and ended up just getting 4 chars to 99, then pwning the bosses. Was real fun like the good old days.

I took a "peak" in the "bonus" cave but since it was so late didn't get a chance to fool around with it. If anyone has any tips on the bonus cave, send me a PM or post it here.

One of the bosses,
Specifically, the Skull Dragon, You need to use Rasp on him to kill him, because if you kill him via attacks, he refills his life. I geuss it's a pain in the ball sack of a fight.

I JUST finished the final boss. All of my characters are level 50+, with Sabin/Edgar being 70.

Has anybody seen a cover for this yet? The covers site on the sticky hasn't updated in about a month.
Yeah, the Dragons den is fucking insane. I need to level up my characters more
More like fucking tedious :\ I hate being splitt up into multiple parties just to hold down some switchs. Then you get the wonderful massive random encounters. Wish I had a moogle charm for each party...

I was reading into the Gamefaqs FAQ. Needless to say the first bonus areais going to take awhile to finish. Not sure about the second one, haven't read much into it.

I got past the first 3 dragons, then quit cause of the stupid random encounter rate, because I need to level some. Right now, Shadow, Relm, and Mog are around 60, while Sabin is at a cool 70. I'm going to start on the rest of my chars to build them up for this ridiculous dungeon.

You know there's a quicksave right? You don't have to play until you reach a save point.
You know there's a quicksave right? You don't have to play until you reach a save point.
Yeah, but I haven't had to use it yet. ;)
You know there's a quicksave right? You don't have to play until you reach a save point.
hurray for quicksave, was waiting outside work for 9am to come along and when my boss showed up...quicksave saved my DS from being left on until lunch when Id be able to find a save point.

Goddamnit, I'm farther in the Dragons Den, on the 7th dragon, and he's a fuckER. He casts a spell called Heartless Angel, which brings your entire party down to 1 HP, then casts Saintly Beam, which does 1000 HP to your entire party :| I actually reraised all my characters, then he used Saintly Beam again :|

Yeah I said "fuck it" and finished this game at the dragons den. I got to the zombie dragon and didn't feel like casting a Rasp a billion times to defeat him. That was annoying.

Gota get to the other two gba RPGS I bought: Summon Night 1 and Summon night 2. Also working on Condemened for the 360 and getting SW2: Empires for the 360 soon, so gota divide the time to something else.

This game was still awesome as it was on the SNES years ago. People gripe about the dialogue change, but everything else was there. The music wasn't to be expected 100% there with the wonderful GBA sound chip, so I can't blame Square for the quality.

Still the best Final Fantasy of all time, and one of the best RPGS to date. I don't think theres gonna be another port/better port down the road unless they release it for the Wii Virtua Console, but I'm not gonna buy this game again unless they re-make it in 3d ;)

Well I'm near the final dragon. The optional bosses in the cave are fucking hard. Marlboro Menace being one of them. You kill one, it splits into 2. You kill those 2, it splits into 4.

I geuss theres another boss after you kill the final dragon, but you gotta slog back through to it.

So I beat the final Dragon, and let me tell you: I never want to go through that again.

Edit: I went back to where you fight it, and yes, there is another boss, and this boss is almost, if not harder, then AS hard as the final dragon.

Edit2: Ok fuck that boss, it took me almost an hour to beat him.

got around 10 hours into the game and think one of two ways

1. going to call up FYE tomorrow to see if they got it (got around 200 bucks on gift card there)

2. Return it to gamefly come tuesday.

even though its been 13 years since the last time i played it, I can still remember playing it and i find it sort of boring. SO unless FYE has it tomorrow i will probally return it to gamefly Tuesday.

be nice if gamefly would drop the BIN price

Has anyone seen if there's a Homestarrunner.com reference in this game, and where it is? I'm curious, because I know that 1/2 and 5 had one and I wouldn't be surprised if 4 did and I missed it.
