Pinball FX 2 - Free Paranormal table from 10/26 to 11/2!!!
It looks like the tourney is on Biolab instead of a Marvel table. Gives me a great excuse to finally learn how to score high on that one. Still a bit confused by it.

All of our Biolab high scores are going to drop like a rock on the leaderboards just like my SoTD score did the first time around lol.
Haha the first thing I thought of when you said a marvel tournament was oh it's gonna be on the Spiderman table with keeping with the multiple modes to rank up your high score.

Biolab huh, I've tried escaping once and I couldn't make it. Augh it was the farthest I've gotten on that table too.

It's been a while since I played, but I suppose I should try to remember how to get points on Biolab since there's a tournament. Any word yet on the prize? Not that I'm likely to win.

Prizes have been announced: http://www.destructoid.com/pinball-fx-2-s-high-score-tournament-offers-slick-prizes-191695.phtml

Those prize packs are pretty sweet :) I bet the competition will get fierce between the big names in this game. If I can somehow get top 10 -25 I will be pleased... Hell even top 50 would feel pretty good.

Good luck everyone. You're going to need it.

I have been playing Biolab the past day or so and best score for the tourney is around 84 million. When I set it it was good for 7th place, since then has dropped to 37th and prolly even further down the list now...

I still haven't been able to reach the wizard mode in this thing... It seems every time I beat all 4 creature upgrades I drain before I can activate the damn thing.

Also if any of you are wondering why your superscore stays the same after playing this one if you played in the first SoTD tourney... Apparently your scores in the tournaments don't stack in relation to your superscore. The bonus is your best score in any given tourney. So you got 100 million on SoTD, you need to top that on Biolab to increase your superscore bonus.

I got the Marvel tables last week and man... this is good Stuff. I love it, the wife loves and the 5 year old loves it. (My daughters are superhero obssesed) Spider-Man is my 5 year old's favorite, my wife digs Blade, I like em all. If anyone wants to add me feel free. I can use some help with my wizard score. :)

Eh I don't know why they have 3 prize ranges with it being 1st, 2nd and 3rd. There's no chance of getting that. Oh well it's still fun to participate in the tournament.

I have also read that there are some smaller prizes that will be given away to random participants...

So everyone has a chance to win this time around :)

Finally grabbed The Final Round achievement on the SFII table, man. That table is rough and I got that achievement on multiball so I still don't know what the hell I did lol. I do know I did it the hard way of defeating M. Bison! I swear the ball moves like chaos on that table.

Been playing the Biolab tournament as much as I can. I have trouble with the reflex shots. Just can't make 2 shots in a row. I don't understand muscle at all. Sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't. The instructions make it sound like you mash the flipper and A button, but I just make shots normally and get it. The brain one is pretty easy, but it's random how many points I get. The wisdom is very hard to get the skill shots consistently. I've only done that one once.

Yeah reflex just means you have to repeat hitting an orbit or ramp. You can see the red light will light up on whichever orbit you need to hit again. Muscles means you have to hit all the lit up targets. With wisdom it is hard to get the skill shot because I think the launch button (right analog stick) is not precise enough. Seems to jump or should I saw pull the launcher down too much at some times.

I wish Zen would release another table pack so every time I load up FX2 I don't have to hear "WOLVERINE."

Bashed the ball around drunk last night on Biolab and doubled my high score

I'm gonna add some more friends today so if you see a request from "nah dew" it's me.

I really wish I hadn't gone friend shopping just to get that dopey wizard outfit. Now I've got friends who I don't know who they are, but some of those are CAGs and I don't want to dump them, but I don't know who is who. I'm still considering going on a wholesale friend dumping and then try to build back up. :)

Don't dump me, Crunc is! Now, people whose GamerTags are different than their CAG usernames... Those are a despicable lot. *eyes bsmiff*
Haha was the wizard hoodie worth it? Looks a bit funky to me so I never wear it.
Lol... yea that thing is pretty ugly.

I am constantly getting random friend requests from people I assume are trying to unlock the hoodie.

I've picked up a few too many friends because of this game. Gonna clear most of them out other than the guys who actively post in this thread...

BTW, killer game on Spiderman Spy :)

And finally beat your Biolab score crunc, but just by a little (30 mil) thanks to the tourny. When I got that score it put me 5th in the tourney but since have dropped to about 30th :( Definately got better at Biolab though, and now that I know the rules the table is a lot more enjoyable

Yeah you would think they would allow you to group your friends on your friends list. That way you would say these are all the Trials HD people and these are all the Pinball FX 2 people lol.

Thanks KG, I didn't think my Spiderman score was going to register. I lost internet connection, or Xbox Live was lost (satellite connection isn't 100% on all the time), when I was playing Spiderman and I was going to go ape shit if it didn't register the next time I played while connected. Thankfully it did, phew.

Good job on that score Sp8001. I guess I need to make an effort in this tournament. I haven't been playing of late so I'm probably going to suck at it in the short time, but better late then never!

And no, that hoodie was not worth it. The t-shirt is better.

I'd say the hoodie wasn't worth it either. I like the T-Shirt Much better.

I seem to be hitting a brick wall with Biolab. Can't get over 39M. Those strengthing modes are damn hard, especially Reflex and Wisdom.

I know how you feel. I used to log and have 1-3 friends online at most, now it's regularly 5-7 online, and I only really know 1 or 2.

Overall, I'm kinda disappointed with both of the avatar awards. The hoodie is just kinda dumb looking, and something about the shirt just kinda bugs me. I think it's that the sleeves seem kinda short, and my avatar looks weird in it...

For real, where's the cliche big purple robe and hat? Something that would do The Who's song proud!

Finally jumped back in last night. Best I could do on Biolab was 96 million or some such score. I'll try again tonight. I also went back to the Speed something or other game and beat my high score on that, but nothing too exciting about my score there and I can't remember it now.

I'm definitely going to pare down my friends list, but I'll be sure to keep everybody posting here and everybody whom I'm sure I didn't add for specious reasons. If I accidentally delete you, please do add me back again and just let me know who you are (CAG username), either on the xbox or via PM here. All the damn "online" notifications really do get obnoxious, especially when a game has a poorly located notification (I'm looking at you, Bomberman Live Battlefest!) Definitely send me a PM because I keep getting friend requests from strangers due to that ugly friend shopping incident. :) What's worse is that I can't delete my message on the xbox forums as they have a time limit for editing posts, so I'm permanently in there as requesting friends. Sigh.

EDIT:

Ok, I've done it, and there was at least one casualty. Sorry about that 2DMention - I accidentally unfriended you! Please accept my friend request and add me back.

If I deleted anybody else active here, just send me a friend request and tell me who you are, either via xbox messaging or here on CAG via PM. I basically deleted everyone I wasn't 100% sure who they were. I want to restart with a clean slate. I'm now down to 22 friends from... well I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure I deleted 30+ unknowns. Probably some other friendly-fire casualties in there as well, but hopefully not. I have to say, it feels refreshing, having a much shorter friends list....

I'll re-add you when I get home.

I kinda like having an assload of friends. It's always interesting to see what people are doing/playing. Gotta catch em all!

What gets me is that you have a limit of 100 friends. Really? It's 2011. We have systems with 250G HDDs. This isn't 1996 Xband.

Wow after so many months I finally managed to stop the Invasion not once but three times on Earth Defense. Hitting that little hole is extremely hard yet I feel like my brain has found the sweet spot on the flipper now. ^^

I did quite a bit better tonight in the tourney, though I didn't topple Sp8001's score. I had something like 250 million. I'm never going to get... 4+ billion. I'm wondering if the folks getting those scores know something about the scoring that we don't, about some highly lucrative mode or something or perhaps some way to increase the points gotten from the wizard mode. Or something. Or do they just have large amounts of patience (and time)? Playing how I play the game, I think it would take many hours to get to 4 billion.

I do intend to keep trying to topple Mr. Sp8001's score, though. :)

I think the wizards in this game are amazing at keeping and controlling multiball... There are some big points to be had if you keep hitting jackpots and super jackpots in Clone multiball because the amount of each jackpot keeps climbing everytime you hit something. The best I have done is 55 million in a clone multiball session and I kept it alive for something like 5 mins... I think some of these guys can easily keep the same multiball alive for 30+ mins while maintaining control. Their scores are pretty impressive.

About new tables... I haven't read or heard anything that hints any release dates on any new content. I would assume Mars and Paranormal will come out within a few months, then after that we should be getting some new Marvel content (summer maybe). Zen is keeping pretty quiet on new content.

At the moment Captain America is in the lead with 3102 votes with Ghost Rider in 2nd with 3068 votes... It's so close. If you haven't voted yet go to http://www.marvelpinball.com/ and cast your vote.

Crunc... Like I told Spy, I love the competition. Crush that score. Good luck buddy. I need to get busy getting some respectable scores on the classic tables which I have neglected since there has been so much new stuff the past few months. And I have to admit the new content (FX2 Core/Marvel) blows the classic FX tables out of the water.

I don't doubt they do that, but I'm thinking that the real points are coming from... the pop bumpers. I've noticed a few times that for some reason the point value of the pop bumpers goes up to 1 million per hit! That's a crazy amount given the scoring of the rest of the game. You can hit the ball in there and get 8 or 9 hits, that's 9 million points each time you shoot the ball in there. The only problem is that I haven't the slightest idea what triggers that point value. I've tried hitting the ball in there over and over but it doesn't seem to go up.
Not particularly on-topic but what is the best pinball game of the last gen? Opinions please.
Are you talking about Pinball FX 1 or are you talking about real pinball machines? If real machines, what do you mean by "last gen"? Do you mean electromechanical, or are you just talking about before Stern became the sole manufacturer? Either way I'm not sure I can really give you an opinion as I have a hard time choosing favorites. Name some games and I'll tell you if I like them. :)

I think by "last gen" he means xbox/ps2/gamecube era... I didn't play much pinball on those systems so I can't really help him out.

On Biolab the pop bumpers raise the score of the upgrade bonus for when you complete a creature upgrade (reflex, muscle, brain or wisdom). I think it maxes out at 12 million but there are ways you can make it go even higher.

Have been in a rut with Biolab so I decided to go tackle Speed Machine. Woo 101M on that table now, 46th! I have the achievement for the wizard mode but I couldn't complete it twice, grrr lol.

The Deal of the Week thread states Pinball Hall of Fame: Gottileb Collection is coming out in January. There ya go, another pinball title.

They do that, but they also give out, normally, 10k points. However, I've seen them at 1 million and it seems to only end once your ball drains. Then you're back to 10k. So if we can figure out what triggers them going to up to 1 million, I think we can compete. :) I'm going to experiment a little tonight.

I hope it's better than the Wii version. The Williams Hall of Fame was great (had it for the Wii before trading it in and getting the PS3 one) but the Gottlieb one didn't hold my interest for nearly as long.

Ok, Pops are normally 1000 per hit, occasionally 10k. I think the secret to the 1 million pops is one of the "mutations". There's one called "Goose Bumps" and I'm guessing that's it, but I'm not sure. It's also possible it's none of the mutations. The problem with the mutations is shooting that darn hole. It's the same one where there's sometimes a countdown for the video mode. Near the bottom right. I can not shoot the thing with a caught ball. It always gets rejected. I have hit it from a ball coming from the left ramp, but I can't get the shot down consistently. You have to hit it once to start the process, then 3 more times to collect a mutation. To make matters worse, if you drain the ball the count resets so you have to start over at 3. The mutation you get once you make those shots is changed by the left loop spinner. I tried and tried to get this intentionally but couldn't do it tonight, though I was pretty easily able to get "goose bumps" as the next award. Biolab is yet another machine in this game that has an exceeding difficult shot to make.

Pinball Hall of Fame's Williams collection was released on PS2, and their Gottlieb collection was on PS2, XBOX and GC. I've never played those versions, but the current gen versions are solid.

Finally was able to reach and conquer the wizard mode on the Blade table. I was rewarded handsomely as well with a score of 419M :) 8th place on the leaderboards ATM

Blade is Zen Studio's current masterpiece IMHO

The guy who completely owned all of us (A Patch of Blue) in the tourney with over 140 billion is an active member over on the Zen forums and he wrote up this fantastic guide that explains basically anything you could ever want to know about the Biolab table. Just released today, he is obviously the best source for info on this table other than Zen directly. Here is the link:

Thanks for the link and that guide is insane. I can only imagine how long it took him to play enough to figure all of that out. Not to mention the time it took him to write everything up.

Not particularly on-topic but what is the best pinball game of the last gen? Opinions please.

There wasn't much released last gen. We have:

PS2
Gottlieb Collection
Williams Collection
Flipnic

Xbox
Gottlieb Collection
Pure Pinball

GC
Gottlieb Collection

I'd say by far Pure Pinball on Xbox is the best. Physics aren't quite as good as FX2 or Williams, but close. Good designs too. It also works on 360 and is rather cheap.

Thanks for the info. I looked up Pure and I remember seeing that cover several years and having a good laugh about it. It's only 100 points on Goozex so I went ahead and requested it. Thanks again.

Biolab is one of the easier tables in the Pinball FX 2 Core Collection. While it may seem like a low scoring table, it offers several unique features that can yield extremely high scores.

Yeah maybe for you sir, lol. I can never hit the right orbit when I need to. That's also the case with the mutation hole. It's just like golf if you think about it you can't do it lol.

Does anyone understand this:

Biolab's wizard mode is easy to complete and offers a meager reward with no frenzy. However, the following features can produce incredible scores when used in conjunction:
The bumpers will be increased to 1,000,000 points per hit after 100 hits.

Is the implication here that the point value goes up to 1M per hit after 100 hits, but only after completing the wizard mode, or is this always the case on any ball? Also, if it's only after the wizard mode, is it only for that ball, or for all subsequent balls?

I don't think you need to complete the wizard mode to get the million point pop bumpers... Basically you just need to hit them one hundred times with one ball to get them to score that high. If you lose your ball then you have to start over and hit them 100 times again.

I will be testing this out as it seems like a great way to earn huge points. I wish I would have known this before\during the tournament lol... I might have been able to get in the top 10 or so.

I wish I had taken advantage of it a ton more when I saw it a happen a couple times! In any case, I think I'm glad to know how to do it. On the other hand, it seems like it changes the game into: shoot the ball into the pop bumpers.

I finally got another achievement as I was able to do all the tasks for Iron Man but not once have I made it to Ultimo lol. I think it'll be like the SF2 table where I probably will not unlock the last achievement until a year later (same with Earth Defense but I think that's more to do with the new physics engine). I really like that table, I'd say Spiderman is my favorite followed by Iron Man.

Apparently there is a vote for the next deal thing on the dashboard, and one of them is the Marvel DLC for 400 points. I know where my vote is going tonight!
Apparently there is a vote for the next deal thing on the dashboard, and one of them is the Marvel DLC for 400 points. I know where my vote is going tonight!
That's good news for you... I'll chip in my vote for that as well.

About Iron Man... that is one tough table. I have gotten to Ultimo 6 times I believe, but have failed to defeat him every single time. I hit him about 5 times with fireballs once before I lost my multiball only to find out that you need to hit him 10 times to conquer him. I am going to keep trying and hopefully come out victorious 1 of these times. It seems like Iron Man doesn't get a lot of love from my fellow pinheads. It has been one of my favorites from the beginning.

About Biolab... the pop bumpers seem to be one of the easiest ways to score huge points. Another is if you can max out you bonus multiplier, each activation of clone multiball awards 50 million points at the end of ball bonus. Multiple activations = huge points... And the nice thing is clone multiball is pretty simple to start.

Oooh... so you get 50 million per activation at end of ball? That's huge. I can start clone multiball over and over. So I need to check that rulesheet again about how to increase the multiplier. In fact, it seems like it would make more sense to start multiball, then immediately drain all but one ball. Repeat. Not really a lot of fun, though.
