Pinball FX 2 - Free Paranormal table from 10/26 to 11/2!!!

Finally beat Sabertooth, gah I still haven't been able to get the bonding achievement lol. I'm getting better at hitting saucers and targets that I need to hit. It's a cool feeling to know when to flip the flipper and it hits exactly what you need. Mind, body and flipper.^^

The first FX2 patch is live... Looks like the R&B scores have been reset. Hopefully I will find some other cool stuff that has been changed...

Still no hot-seat multiplayer for the classic tables :(

Now that the patch has come out, either Mars or Paranormal should be close behind :)

I really need to get some MS points so I can pick up the full version of this game and the Marvel tables. Just reading through the pages has me drooling at the mouth even more for the Marvel tables. I've been the only guy in my group of friends that truly enjoys pinball as much as some of you do.

Wooo, just when you think you've fallen into a phunk and you come up with your all time high score on a table. I love it. Now 112th for Secrets of the Deep! 17th on R&B but I bet that will slide down fast since they just reset that table.
17th on R&B but I bet that will slide down fast since they just reset that table.
That update hurt me. After 1 hr. of play, I was still only hitting about 30% of my old scores.

It's great to see other CAGers who still love pinball. My wife and I go on a local hunt every once in a while to see where we can still find the classic machines. A pizza place near us still has an Addams Family machine but they seem to have bolted the entire table to the floor! Totally messes up the difficulty to have no ability to nudge and avoid a center drain.

I had the classic Pinball FX and just got FX2 to try the upgraded physics on the old tables. It's an improvement but I'm so spoiled now after Williams Hall of Fame. Zen still can't touch how good the physics or table rule instructions are in the Hall of Fame games. Speaking of that, when the heck is Gottlieb finally going to come out on XBLA?

I'm not sure if you can still do some of these wizard achievements with just the classic tables but add me if you want to try. I'll be playing this again soon and might pick up the newer set. I always appreciate others that have the same classic arcade sensiblities.

Oh god I finally beat Akuma on the SF2 table. I also finally grabbed the second achievement Talented Fighter, win a fight on the SF2 table lol.

No I don't think there has been any more tournaments. A friend messaged me and was excited he was the Pinball Wizard for the day. Looks like they reset the Friend's Leaderboards. After playing today I sadly put him down to second place lol.

Oh yes! I finally nabbed the Cookie Jar achievement on Biolab! I made it to that part before but I didn't tilt the table twice and lost my ball before. >

Just announced on the Zen forums a little earlier today...

Mars comes out April 20th, 2011!!!!

Everybody get those points ready :)

I hope that will coincide with a Marvel DLC sale. :) If so I'll buy it all. If not, well I'll probably buy the Mars DLC since it's a lesser amount of points.

I just set the World #1 high score for Mars at 224 million out of the 17 or so people that own it already... lol. Going to try and improve on it tonight.

Thanks again Zen for the early access code :)

Yea it does have a Space Shuttle vibe to it, but every time I play it I can't help but think of Total Recall. Might have to watch that classic Arnold flick tonight.

See you at the party Richter!
is there ANY free tables? so I can at least get some acheivements from it?
You can demo the machines but nothing's free except the FX2 client. If you're into pinball, buying at least one is really worth it and not very expensive... maybe check out Mars when it releases?

Cool to see FX2 finally getting the Mars Table, but I already have it on Zen.

I think it's a pretty easy table compared to the other ones, but scoring is slow.

Yea it is easy to keep the ball alive but 2 out of the 4 main missions are going to give players some serious problems. The Pyramid mission especially. That one is just downright sadistic :)

The Sunstorm mission also is pretty tough to accomplish since the time requirements are so strict.

Was just playing some Pasha and noticed the Mars icon popped up in my FX2 menu with a little star animation on it.

I got all excited that maybe it dropped early, but the table's current cost is -1 MSP. When I try to download it, it says I don't have enough MSP and the required balance is 4294967295 MSP

Well, if you had bought it I'm sure you would have been excommunicated from the forum for obviously not being cheap enough.

It's really frightening to know that paying $53,687,091.20 for a FX2 table was literally one click of the "Add Microsoft Points" button away.

I wonder if any youngins put their parents in debt to MS for $53 MM out of excitement for an early Mars release...

I'm pretty sure there is a cap in how many MS point cards you can put in in a day... I wonder how long it would take to attain 53 million.

Is if its even possible to have that many MS points yet?

Anyone else notice this post on the FX2 forum? http://195.56.170.66/forum/showthread.php?t=3055

We know it has been quite some time since a new table release, but we have been making important improvements to the overall infrastructure of Pinball FX2 so that it is a sustainable platform for a long time to come.

Starting this month, you can expect regular table releases, hopefully each month. You all have to understand that creating these tables is no walk in the park, even with all of the experience our studio has. We pledge to only release product when it is ready to go - with the right amount of polish and attention to detail.

Pretty awesome stuff to hear from Zen. They also addressed the super-high current price for Mars on their Facebook page with a great sense of humor: http://www.facebook.com/zenstudios/posts/10150569071435788

Considering how long it takes them to make a table (about 6 months), that's a lot of awesome dev dedication where I will have no question to "donate" my money for their cause.

Edit: I wonder when this will go live?!

Richter: I want that fucker dead!
Helm: I don't blame you, man. I wouldn't want a guy like Quaid porkin' my old lady.
Richter: You saying she likes it?
Helm: No, I'm sure she hated every minute of it.

Enjoy MARS guys ;)

Fun Fact: The actor who played Richter, Micheal Ironside, is also the voice of Sam Fisher... The main character from the Splinter Cell series.

Yes, I like this table a lot. It has great presentation, there are a few multiball modes and I nabbed Shuttle Pilot in like 2 minutes from starting out. I like how you can make a kickback by getting all 3 outlanes lit up (the ones outside the bottom bumpers). Similar to Spider-Man you can keep things rolling if you always keep an eye on where the ball is going to go (light up an un-lit lane to activate kickback). Ball save is pretty easy to do as well, I like the openness of this table, even the ramps give you a little leeway compared to previous tables.

Yeah Ironside was also in Starship Troopers and as the GDI commander in the FMV of C&C3.

Definitely remember Ironside as the teacher\general in Starship Troopers :) Another classic 90's action flick. A little corny at times but still an awesome movie.

Here is a link to the current MARS guide to help you guys out with the missions. It was originally made for the PS3 version of MARS but the missions are identical. Only minor changes in gameplay but huge changes in scoring. (Top score on PS3 is under 300 million)

http://195.56.170.66/forum/showthread.php?t=2471

There is also an "official" MARS guide in the works that should be released before the MARS tournament starts in the next 2 weeks. A couple of wizards from the Zen forums are putting it together. I will link it once it has been released.

Might as well post a link to my review of MARS that I posted a few days ago on the Zen Forums:

Needless to say... I love this table :)

Dang, just got home from work and downloaded Mars. I got 39 million on my first play, and 58.5 on my second! I'm OK at FX2 but by no means a beast like the fella above me, so I feel pretty good about these initial scores :)

Mars is lots of fun and has a great look. This may beat Blade for my favorite FX2 table...
Come on you Apes! You want to live forever? :p

Yeah thanks for the guide KG and ooohh a tournament for this table you say.
Yep :)

I don't know the exact date it starts but it's soon. Prizes haven't been announced yet. You can even verify by going into the tournament section in-game and scrolling to the right I believe.

I find myself yelling at the damn spider for not retrieving my kickbacks fast enough during Sunstorm

Also aggravating about Sunstorm: Sometimes after I fail, I'll immediately knock the ball back into the ship to restart. The mission will start up, lanes light up etc., but the ball just sits under the table for a good 6 seconds. Tilting doesn't help. I guess I'm just restarting too fast for the machine?

Yeah the spider does take a while and I wouldn't mind it unless I was being timed on something, oh wait. That and I used to find Anti-gravity to be awesome but now I just find it to be annoying with my ball floating down past the flippers where I can't do shit about it! grrr

I thought whenever a ball floats off the table below the flippers in low-grav you get it back, even if the ball save isn't activated. Am I mistaken?

Nah if it's underneath the flippers and above the solid part of the table it sinks. Ok, put up a better score and now I'm 62nd with this table. Still not as good as you KG though.;) I can't for the life of me hit all the drop targets for the Pyramid mission, gah.

I failed and repeated that mission at least 50 times before I finally completed it for the first time, lol. And believe me, it has made me a much better multiball player.

You just have to focus on hitting shots with the very tip of your flippers.

I didn't think it would ever get easier but trust me... it does. In my last game I was able to complete it 1st try both times (never with 3 balls though, just 2). I got to the wizard mode twice that game, but failed miserably both times and didn't improve my top score even though that was the best I have done thus far.

Repeated failing and retrying of Sunstorm and Pyramid missions can really boost your score.

A Patch of Blue, a true pinball wizard, has posted up his guide for MARS and it is very well done and just about complete (he is still finishing up certain parts) It has a lot of the same info that the guide I linked earlier but it is specifically for the FX2 version of MARS. It's a great read and will help you get a better grasp on things ;)

http://195.56.170.66/forum/showthread.php?t=3091

Looks like he got bit by the Total Recall bug too, lol :)

Yeah I hit them with the end flippers but I can't get the consistency of the timing down like the other tables. I usually hit the bumper as I waited just too long. Funny it seems 2 pinballs is my sweet spot as well, three is just chaos lol.

Man after what seemed like hours of playing I drained my 8th ball on Buccaneer lol and checked out my score! 10th overall with 142M!

Hmm side note, maybe not the best time to start a focus based game, man I'm tired and I prob could have gone a bit further if I wasn't mentally drained. You know it's really exciting beating your high score but then that excitement slumps back down as you see the Superscore KG has, holly shit man a billion and some point!!!

Just announced earlier today via Zen Studio's facebook page...

"By now you have all figured out that PSN is not coming back up today and Sorcerer's Lair will be delayed. We've decided to counter-balance this bad news with some AMAZINGLY GOOD news: A new Marvel Pinball table trailer will debut THIS WEEK on Marvel.com. Stay tuned folks, this will be a good week yet!"

Bummer they had to delay Sorcerer's Lair for the PS3 crowd due to Sony's hacker problems. Doesn't matter to me though as I don't own a PS3 (yet...) Good news though... Sorcerer's Lair will eventually be coming to FX2. I'm pleased. This table looks fantastic. :D

What does interest me is the new trailer they are going to debut this week on http://www.marvel.com

My money is on either Captain America or Ghost Rider (fingers crossed for GR) since they were the front runners in the poll right before it closed. But there is always the possibility that Zen will pull something else out of their hat...

I was thinking it could possibly be a Thor table to go along with the upcoming movie releasing next month.

From my understanding... Zen basically has the entire Marvel Universe to choose from. That is an amazing amount of options at their disposal.

Keep your eyes peeled for the new trailer debuting this week on http://www.marvel.com

BTW, awesome game on Buccaneer Spy ;) Achieving a top ten score feels great... You have me slaughtered on the classic tables... Makes me wish I got into FX1 a lot earlier than I did. I got my 360 shortly after the sale they had on it in 2009, and didn't pick it up until a month before FX2 dropped. I still have a lot to learn about the classic tables. The newer ones are quite a bit better IMHO... Also a lot easier for me to figure out. Maybe we could chat it up one night and swap some tips on various tables.

Great to see you on the Zen Forums nah dew :) You'll be able to learn a lot from those guys.
