PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

Yeah, I've never had a single issue with any PS3 controllers. My main I used for over 4 years and it's the only one I still have... I traded in all my extras back when PS4 launched.

My left thumbstick has a slight peel. I just noticed it yesterday and mine is from day 1.  Too much sprinting in Destiny lol.

So PES 2015 runs at 720p/60fps compared to 1080/60fps on the PS4. There's also rumblings that Shadow of Mordor runs like shit on the Xbone, I find all this odd since I thought the gap was closing. :whistle2:k

Get some geltabz grips before it gets worse, I use them on my black one and they're great. I was considering swapping my black ones out with the Xbone sticks but I read that you lose some resistance when you do so I decided against it.

I'm sending my controller in for replacement for a third time. It's getting awefully annoying
Why are you posting this in several threads? It's coming off a little like astroturfing.

On a similar console war topic, I find it interesting that Microsoft tried to change the narrative that the Xbox was gaining parity with the PS4 specifically on last gen games released on current gen like Diablo 3 and Metro, however #resolutiongate continues as Shadow of Mordor and Pro Evolution Soccer are rumored to be running at 720p on the bone while both are running at 1080p/60 on the PS4.

Cause I'm getting an xbone on the 28th and might switch over to the xbone as my console of choice even if games aren't quite as good looking just because I'm sick of controllers breaking on me. I do play a bunch of fifa though so that might be my problem. On a side note will squirting wd-40 in the l2 button to stop it squeaking harm it in any way?

I decided to get Shadow of Mordor on PS4. Mainly because I keep hearing 1080p/60FPS from sources, and no comment on the X1.

Plus I need a PS4 game to play. $48 with GCU + $25 cert + $10 back. I love GCU lol.

I seriously wish I would have bitten on the xbone when they were giving away gcu. How often do the $60 deals pop up? I don't feel like paying $120 seeing how I doubt I will buy 10 games at full price over 2 years from bestbuy. I feel you about wanting a ps4 game to play. It's sad that the 2 games I'm looking forward to the most are last of us remastered that I just ordered today and the Master Chief collection

I see the $60 happen. I'll have a couple more coming up with witcher and the order.

Most of my multiplats go to X1 since I know more people with one.

You see the only time I really bite on day one games are when it's something I can't wait to play like Uncharted/Infamous/Halo or something I'll play forever like fifa. Otherwise I'll just wait seeing how I'm in no real hurry to play the games. But $12 each new game makes it kinda tempting to just flip on eBay really quick after beating rather then waiting

If you have a friend or family member who games you can split the cost. I split it with my friend under his name after my Best Buy account got banned.

Lazy Devs? I have no idea why Pro Evolution Soccer is 720p when every other sports title is 1080 on the X1.
Xbox fans keep saying resolution doesn't matter so why waste the time and money optimizing code for a fanbase who doesn't appreciate it in the first place?

On a serious note, is PES cross gen and developed on the previous consoles, because it's looking like games that are developed for the new consoles are the ones that are struggling whereas the ported from previous gen games seem to hit? Who knows but the difference still stands and as long as it does the better versions are on the PS4.

So any reviews or anything out for the playstation tv?  If I can hook it up to gigabit ethernet how bad will the delay be playing ps4 games be if I hook one up in another room?  Also can you use a ps4 controller instead of the ds3?

Not sure about the internet but yes you can use a dualshock 4. I was under the impression that you didn't like the Dualshock 4?

that's just showing how dev's are lazy. madden/fifa/nba 2k all 1080 p on xbone but yet pes can't do it is just nonsense. Also games like destiny shows games cna hit 1080 p on xbone. this is not a troll statment i just wish companys would stop being lazy with stuff like this. its been going on for years with ports on pc also.

after playing pes demo i think fifa looks better.

Nah I like the ds4 just not the durability of the ds4. I'll be getting a replacement from sony for the old one and I think i'll reserve that one for any game but, fifa. I don't really care for the ds3 at all though.

What is the reasoning for shadow of mordor of Xbox then? But PC and PS4 get full 1080p?

that's my point and part of it lies on ms for making xbone so hard to code for. this is like ps3 was at start of last gen when games ran better alot of times on 360. its obvious games can be run at 1080 p 60fps on xbox one.

After seeing the troubles Sony had at the beginning of last gen, I don't understand why Microsoft would want to put themselves in that position.

I think you might be a little confused with this... just because a game can run at 1080 P on PS4 and PC does not mean it automatically can on Xbox one. The hardware itself has a max setting that it can get to and facts are facts, the xbox's hardware brings with it lower speeds and processing power. It is not just the coding, with a faster Graphics processor and faster Ram, PS4 at the moment can just spit out higher res a lot easier without slowdown. Until MS figures out this "cloud computing" they claim, you will be hard pressed to see games hitting 1080P on all three platforms.

Don't think "cloud computing" has much if anything to do with 1080p resolutions.

I'll think more games will utilize 1080p/60FPS if the Kinect rumor holds true.

was just going off of MS's normal defense for why games are at lower res, but the Kinect part is apart of that argument... wonder what extra stuff the devs have to do to utilize that memory and if it renders Kinect use at all during the game useless?

i think you might be confuesed on what i said. you are telling me fast moving games like destiny can run at 1080 p but not shawdow come on dude and pes not being 1080 p on x1 is just complete joke and has nothing to do with xbone one power with madden and fifa being 1080 p. xbox one like i said has to be done in certain way to get most max power out of it.

But even then, max power on Xbox is not the same as PS4 and PC... it's not just about "fast moving" it is also about what is going on in the background. draw distances, pixels, etc. That is why one draw GTA V for next gen is the draw distances and having more loaded at a time because of the better power. However, this is what can contribute to the abilities to load more pixels and will thuse change the Res of the game. It is why some PC games at max settings will look better because it can take advantage for the graphics and ram power a PC may have. So when Xbox has a lower graphics card and slower ram, it doesn't matter, if the games uses that power on other stuff, then it may have to bring the res down.

What is up with Sony's customer service repair? Almost everyday they send me an email saying a shipping box is on the way even though I already sent them my system. Also when I try and check the status of my repair, it says I have an invalid service request number even though I copied and pasted it directly from the email Sony sent me.

For all the bashing the rival gets in this thread, I'm not sure anyone really believes it CAN'T accomplish 1080p/60fps, it's more a matter of the fact that it can but doesn't. *My opinion, anyways*

It's probably going to end up like last gen where 99% of games will look nearly identical unless you look at both side by side super closely. I think that you really need to compare top tier exclusives like Uncharted 4 and a new GOW to really get a grasp on what developers can squeeze out of a console

I'm not sure exclusives are a good way to compare graphical power of a console. The multiplats are what shows the differences and provides the comparisons. The exclusives only show what that console can do. Who's to say God Of War, for example, wouldn't look even better on Xbox?

or ryse on the PS4... no way to know with exclusives

Pretty sure the Kinect optimization has already been added to the sdk which is how Diablo and Destiny were able to get to 1080p when they were originally rumoured to run at 900p. And just because Destiny can hit 1080p doesn't mean all games should be able to. Destiny really isn't that impressive graphically, textures looked low res and probably were since they wanted as much parity as they could get across all platforms. I think Assassins Creed Unity is going to tell the tale, new engine made to run on current gen systems, with a marketing deal with Microsoft in place, if it can't run at 1080p then you know the hardware has met its limitations.

Actually we're talking about the limitations of the rival console. And besides, it's not like the ps4 does everything we want it to, either. So sure, they both have their positives but let's not kid ourselves, both systems could *should?* probably be able to do more. Maybe it isn't major things, but little things add up.

We're not even a year yet into this gen's consoles and we're talking about "limitations".
I'm not a game dev and not going to pretend to be one, but from what I've read unlike older console hardware which had a new architecture and sdk that had to be created from scratch and learned for each new machine, these are for the most part machines running on familiar PC architecture and using customized PC sdk's which are already known and mature.

In the past when launch games were released the game was not taking full advantage of all the hardware resources and capabilities that were eventually made available as the programmers got familiar with the architecture and the SDKs began to mature which is why there is such a disparity between launch titles and titles created later in the console cycle, that is not the scenario this gen.

This gen the games are being held back by cross gen and not the reasons mentioned above. Even the Xbox with it's ESRAM has been said to be easy to develop for which is why it's funny when people blame the complexities of the xbone as the reasons for not being able to hit 1080p which is not necessarily the case.

Xbox One and PS4 are both at their graphical walls so to speak. Last generation developers had very complex architectures to work with the chip-set in both consoles has already been developed for years now and it isn't like that where you're going to see games look better and better as it starts to come to a close.

I think the case of PES is clean cut laziness which isn't hard to imagine from a company like Konami. Shadows of Mordor is hard to say but nothing has been confirmed yet it's all only speculation until Digital Foundry gets their hands on it. I'll be really surprised if it is indeed 30FPS/900p because the power gap shouldn't be that large between both systems. I won't use the "Lazy" excuse for every Xbox One game that doesn't hit parity but I can't help but imagine they probably didn't want to waste time specifically working to get more out of the Xbox One version of the game when the PlayStation 4 is the lead hardware choice for many third-party developers.

Honestly if you want the best graphics possible you should be gaming on PC because it vastly outperforms either system and is in my opinion the best gaming platform around. That being said I expect the PS4 will continue to outperform the Xbox One for the rest of this generation and one problem the Xbox One is going to have, similar to what the PS3 experienced is most third party developers will optimize their games for the leading hardware platform (Like the Xbox 360 was) and not put much effort into the other version.

Uhh. It's easy to. The price of a PS4 plus a couple games and its attainable.

It's not nearly as expensive as people make it out to be. Even if you only spend $600-$700 you'll get a build that'll beat consoles in power. Then factor in the fact you have access to insanely cheap games and you aren't paying the $50/$60 a year for online and the investment adds up in the end.

I like the ability to fire up a console in the living room, not have to find drivers for controllers and graphics cards, mess with sliders to get the best framerates etc..  I like trophies and achievements and I don't feel like steams implementation of these is comparable. So gaming on a PC doesn't fit my needs and since the PS4 offers the best gaming experience it is my preference for multiplats. That said I'll be picking up Forza Horizon tomorrow because that's what I also have an Xbone for, exclusives.. well and voice controlling my TV.

Couldn't agree more. I play everything on the Ps4 and use the Xbox for exclusives. I do enjoy the voice controls and some of the features the Xbox has though, like snap and TV integration. Most of the people I know that game do so on the Xbox though, except for the people I know that jumped ship in between generations. I rarely play online and multiplayer isn't something I look for in a game. So I don't really care if I have more friends on the Xbox. Also personally I think Sony gives out better games for free.
