PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

I love the game as well but I've recently taken a break with the release of Smash Bros. As Mixer said I wish they'd have changed the controls around because I prefer the Assassin's Creed controls for this kind of game.

are you 90 minutes into that one too?
Are you suggesting a game shouldn't be fun within the first 90 minutes and people should be OK with that?

Hearing some really positive things about Shadows of Mordor, but I'm also hearing the boss battles are a huge letdown. At $70 here in Canada, I'll be holding off until this goes on sale once or twice. I'm thinking $50, maybe even waiting until $40.

The last 2 boss "battles" are a joke, but I still really enjoyed the game. I got it with GCU for $48+$10 certificate though, so it was kind of a no brainer. I'll be trading it in on Tuesday for NBA 2K15.

SOM is awesome, it borrows a lot from Assassins Creed and the Arkham series. Definitely the sleeper hit of the year so far, its also a easy plat.

When I first got the game I was into the MP for the Last of Us. Then I took a huge break and couldn't get back into it again. I'm not really into that whole meta game of doing challenges or your group gets sick / infected.
I didn't really pay too much attention to my group after I got the two MP trophies, its not a huge part of the MP IMO.

If you're buying a story-driven game, I would like to think so.

Last of Us is all about pacing. Only played Watch Dogs for like 30-40 mins but it had a great opening mission.

I will probably pick up Shadow of Mordor, it looks really good plus its getting shining reviews. However I figured theres a tonne of games out between now and end of November so this will definitely drop in price soon, plus black friday and sales.

Yeah the opening mission in the baseball stadium was kinda sweet. But, then going to attend you nephews birthday party isn't my idea of fun in a videogame. I'll keep on playing because I already paid for the game

I don't know what I'm doing with Shadow of Modor. I'm not very good with games that involve leveling and I feel like it just threw me into an open world and I'm not sure what I should do, start missions, fight captains, find things, etc.

I actually really liked Watch Dogs and the DLC they just put out was even better. I know a lot of people didn't like it. And I'll agree it was next gen like everyone thought it would be, but it was pretty good. I had a lot of fun playing it, and that's all that matters.

I had the same issue at first, but then I just decided to do whatever I wanted in whichever order I want and I've had a lot of fun.

I suggest advancing the story for the first hour or two and then unlocking all of the forge towers so that everything is available on your map. Then just go crazy with doing the challenges, finding collectibles, taking down captains, roaming around and advancing the story in whatever way you want.

Is anyone experiencing some lag when they receive messages? For example, I'll get a notification that I got a message and when I click on it it takes like 30 seconds to update with the new message. It just started happening this weekend and Its annoying as fuck.

I thought Watch Dogs was great and I was pretty surprised a lot of people were disappointed at launch. I need to go back and play the DLC since I own the Season Pass, but I was very happy with the base game and think it'll be a great new series.

I think it depends on the game.
It prob does. Just what ive noticed.

As far was WatchDogs goes. I found it to be like the first Assassin's Creed. Good idea, but got very repetitive. The story was pretty uninteresting and characters never seemed to develop. Adrian like had no emotion at all.

Watch Dogs was fine for me.  I still need to go back and finish it, but all I wanted to do(with it being so similar to AC in many ways) was be able to climb up a building.  Obviously you're not going to want to try and scale a skyscraper, but not even being able to climb up a regular 2-3 story building was just frustrating for me.

I get that it's not supposed to be AC, but don't give me "lite" parkour elements and expect me to be satisfied.  Give me the full-fledged system or just leave it out completely.

Yup. I noticed it too.

In what I can only consider to be a truly /Facepalm moment Ubisoft has announced that Assassin's Creed Unity will run at the same 900p/30FPS on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Ubisoft has indicated this is "Forced Parity" and their reasoning is simply laughable. Given that this is a Microsoft advertised game you can immediately start wondering if Ubisoft has recently received any bags with money logo's on them.

Assassin's Creed Unity will run at 900p/30fps on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Ubisoft has confirmed, with the publisher opting to aim for platform parity to avoid discussion over any differences in performance.

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff," senior producer Vincent Pontbriand told VideoGamer.com while explaining that it's the consoles' CPUs – not the GPU – that prevents Ubisoft Montreal from improving the game's performance.

Pretty stupid move on ubi's part, all they did was cause a bigger shitstorm. Its one thing if 900p was the best they could do, but to come out and say its forced for parity is BS. I canceled my pre-order, I hope they dont pull this with FC4.

I imagine Microsoft had a hand in the parity thing since the game's marketing is getting funded by them. I can't see Ubisoft making the decision on their owns since there isn't much logic behind it.

I doubt Far Cry 4 will be affected since it's a PlayStation 4 marketed game it wouldn't make sense to give it a brush with parity.

It seems like poor PR to suddenly announce this out of the blue. This is one of those things I'd just keep quiet until the game launches, it doesn't sound like a lot of PlayStation people are happy and I can see Ubisoft losing a lot of preorders over it.

If it was the other way around (forced to be 900/30 because PS4 couldn't handle it) is be just as annoyed. Not even sure if ill get this AC since the series as a whole has started to get stale. Why we need 2 within a week is beyond me.

Not just this but it's an annual series like CoD. The series has been pretty much the exact same game since part 2 came out

Shadow of Mordor proves Unity can run at 1080p on the PS4, and the Ubisoft statement all but confirms a version was gimped for the sake of "parity."  So I guess all future Xbox One co-marketed deals will include a parity clause?  And Microsoft fans wonder why there is so much disdain for their beloved company. #PS4noparity

Forced parity for a game that is being advertised as being made specifically for next gen is a slap in the face.  I'm really offended.  I'm cancelling my preorder for that POS now.

Just doesn't make sense to develop Unity specifically for PS4 and Xbone and then pull back the reigns on the game to "avoid discussion."  That's just BS and they're just half assing the final product.  I'll just give Rockstar my money then and invest in GTA V for my sandlot fix next month.

Yeah, not going to bother with AC. I was iffy anyways but that kinda seals it.

Im pretty much annoyed with Ubisoft as a whole after what they have done with Rayman Legends, Watch Dogs and now this.

I predict that this will change by the time the game launches.

Either they will find a way to make in better on each system or there will be some sort of patch that gets released within two weeks of launch.

But yeah, that's pretty crappy of them to do to begin with.

Not really. People are free to make whatever choices they want for whatever reason they want. If you want to still buy it go ahead.
I could understand if the game was going to be unplayable or one console received a bulk load of content that the other didn't, not over pixels and essentially "bragging rights".

For me its a lot of other reasons as well as this one. But really, there is no reason to not make one verison as best as it can be because the other version can't do it. Id feel the same if it was the other way around as well.

If enough people care about it, ie if it hurts their bottom line, they'll change course. If not, Ubi will pocket the MS money and call it a day. This is a slippery slope. If consumers don't care about such things then I can see publishers like EA or Ubi giving us a lesser product.

Then again, if the best graphics possible is what you are after you need to game on a PC.

You can't just compare the two games and assume if one was able to accomplish 1080p the other can. Assassin's Creed Unity will generally be a more "Packed" open world game with giant cities filled with thousands of NPC's all rendered together. That takes a significant strain on resources to accomplish.

I've played Shadows of Mordor and while you can find large clusters of enemies together I expect ACU will have a far greater amount packed in one area. Additionally Shadows of Mordor is generally a waste land (From what I've seen so far) where aside from occasional camps and buildings there is just open plains to roam across, this is different from the cities ACU will have which are more taxing on system capabilities because you have hundreds of buildings packed together combined with having to render thousands of shadows generate light from each of them.

Honestly I was upset earlier but having checked back and seen that AC4 was the same resolution at launch as Assassin's Creed Unity this is probably expected due to the larger resources strain. I think Ubisoft's PR is just generally crap and they didn't approach the situation right.

It's pretty stupid of Ubisoft to cripple the PS4 version because of the fucking Xbox One, but I'm honestly less upset about this than I am about Bungie's always-on DRM for Destiny... I'll probably still pick up the new Assassin's Creed (since I really like these games), but I'm not sure when I'll pick it up. I was honestly leaning towards buying it at launch until this.

I think AC Unity will flop. It is coming out on the same day as Halo Master Chief Collection. Majority of Xbox One owners will be spending time in multiplayer on that game (I know I am). Last gen isn't going to help them out in sales, since they can't play it, and they got AC Rogue coming out the same day. That pretty much leaves the PS4 (Pissing off PS4 owners ain't going to help) and PC with that week open. Dragon Age, Project Cars, Far Cry 4, WWE 2K15, LittleBigPlanet 3, and GTA V all coming out the week after leaving no breathing room.

Ubisoft title + 2 weeks out from Black Friday + avalanche of titles in November = crazy sale on Black Friday.

Yeah I don't expect it to sell well at all, that delay is going to hurt them since all of the high profile games are going to launch very close to the release date. PS4 gamer's will back away from the game due to this controversy and PC gamer's already known that Ubisoft's PC games have been optimized like crap. I expect the game will get a significant price cut on Black Friday since it's likely going to get lost in the sea of much better games to play.

I buy every Assassin's Creed at launch cause I'm a huge fan but I'll be voting with my wallet this time and going Dragon Age at launch instead. I'll Black Friday unity this year.
