If you're considering the Atelier games, it's worth mentioning that most of them were added to PS Now in the latest update. So for the price of one game, you have a buffet of games you can stream from any PlayStation device (for a month).
Yeah, no I'm not subbing to that, would take me at least a month to beat one of them anyway. And it's only Ayesha, Rorona Plus, and Escha & Logy on Now.

Oh I just noticed, has PSN always had a wishlist? Don't remember seeing that before.

Only added last week or the week before. Only took them years of us asking.

I just saw that Axiom Verge is 30% off on Steam so hopefully that means that the PSN sale is coming soon. Bit weird that he would do a sale on Steam first though.
Last time I asked about a sale on Axiom Verge a few people went nuts. Apparently a discount 6 months after release is the equivalent to "screwing over the early adopters" to them and they say the guy that makes it. The claim is that he will announce a sale well in advance, but I simply don't get that philosophy. If you want to play it early, you pay more. Anyone that considers it worth full price probably already has it. I'd like to play it, but not for $20. Retro style game is worth maybe $15 max to me, but I'd bite in a second for $12. There are plenty of other games out there to enjoy if he doesn't want my $12.

I'm also waiting on a sale on Galak-Z.

Didn't do any research on Ar Nosurge Vita. Will I be able to enjoy it if I

(1) Haven't played any of the previous entries

(2) Like most JRPGs with a leveling/grinding system, and somewhat decent characters and/or story

I recall Atelier Ayesha still has the time limit, Shallie removes it but is not on Vita. So no go on that. Hated the time limit in Rorona and Totori so much that I gave up on the series and didn't even start Meruru.
Like he said, Ar Nosurge can be enjoyed on its own. BUT Ciel nosurge, the prequel to ar nosurge was not localized. So we miss out on a lot of character backstory. You're just kind of thrust in the middle of things. You can make sense of most of it so it's not too confusing. There's a plot summary of ciel nosurge you can read to get the gist of what happened. Also, you'll miss out on some minor things like a particular location/character guest appearance.

Random battles are pretty easy and you don't have to grind too much. Boss battles are a little tougher and annoying.

Characters are the game's strong point. Story is okay if you get all the backstory.

It is a text heavy game though. I warn you, you'll be reading synthesis dialogues and dive events for hours at a time. I do like me some character interaction but when I'm watching it straight for 3 hours with no plot advancement, it can get mind numbing.

Oh and just as a general reminder, Ar NoSurge on the vita includes the DLC content. Since it doesn't say Plus in the title(It does say plus. my bad), it might not be clear that it has more content than the PS3 equivalent. So you should definitely be getting the vita version if you can since they're the same price.

Yes, Ayesha and Escha&Logy have time limits. Shallie is the only Dusk game to remove the time limit. The next game Sophie will also presumably not have a time limit. We are only now getting E&L Plus so give shallie some time. I wager early 2017 for Shallie Plus to reach our shores.

Also, the time limits are easy tbh

I agree they are not too hard. It's just I don't like them when I play on my Vita: sometimes I'm on the train and I just want to wander around and level up a bit for 30 minutes without doing any sort of planning or plot advancement (which is why Disgaea is such a great game to play on the Vita to me). When there is a time limit I always fear I am wasting precious time that could be otherwise used to do better quests or find better items.

Nobody went nuts at you for asking or said it would screw over early adopters. They just stated exactly what the developer has been saying since before release. He even wrote a blog post about the news of an upcoming sale if you want to read about his reasoning, as it seems like he's lived up to his claims that you dismiss.

Yep, we were trying to explain the rationale and that he wasn't obligated to ever put it on sale whether at 6 months and 1 day or 5 years. Think we all wanted it to go on sale and he announced last week it was going to happen soon.

Ok, whatever. It was clear that it was a problem that I asked instead of not having kept up with the game since pre-release. And it was clearly stated that people were tired of it being asked "every week" and "moaning" was expected if the sale wasn't good enough (ironically by the same guy that just asked about a sale on it). But yeah.

I don't dismiss his claims, I just don't agree with them. Is that not ok? I don't demand he lower the price, I'll just pass until he does. That's not a demand, I've just set a personal buy price. And the game isn't so important to me that I hang on his every word and in here, I'll just check every so often. I'd just like to play it, sometime. This is cheapassgamer after all, we're here because we like saving money.

I don't think this is entirely true. I'm sure they don't have total control on pricing, but there is definitely some amount of coordination and encouragement (or incentives to the publishers) that both Sony and Microsoft are handling behind the scenes. The various themed sales are a good example of this.

I do wish they would have more DLC sales, but there's probably a bunch of data to back up the fact that they don't need to put DLC on sale as much or can much just as much money or more by not putting it on sale.

To answer the original question from Ltrain8765, there are DLC sales but lately they seem to focus more on season passes. I "stocked up" on a bunch of season passes a few months ago when there was a big DLC sale for Mordor, FC4, etc.
Well, obviously Sony can say 'we're having a Halloween sale! Put your horror games on sale!" but that is a given and in no way changes the fact they don't control sale games/prices.

The existence of those time limits drives me up a wall and makes the games unplayable for me. Especially later in the game when you decide you want to, say, recraft a tier 1 material and then want to remake everything up the list. [don't remember exact ingredients... but say make better 'water' and then remake everything that uses water. but then you start to wonder if doing all that will take too much time... and I hate that feeling. Pushes me completely away from them... I've tried two, and both times got frustrated by it [even though I didn't run out of time] and just gave up.

But it is going to be on sale in the next few weeks, so there's no need to get on a soapbox about it like it's still a hypothetical idea that may or may not happen. We tried to inform you on the topic and that seems to just get you riled up, so buy it or don't and move on.

Looks like we've got a Tecmo sale incoming with their Atelier, Dead or Alive, Dynasty Warriors, and Deception games specifically being on sale. No PS+ prices for them at the moment.

The preliminary list of this week's sales:
Wasn't there some kind of Tales freebie thing in this post? Was it removed? I knew I should've checked out when I had the chance.

Bought Axiom Verge during the $100 get $15 promo and I don't regret it even though it will be going on sale soon.

Sorry, I didn't realize you worked for Sony. I guess I assumed that a company that takes a cut of every piece of software and hardware that's sold might have some significant influence on pricing, availability, etc. A businessman such as yourself would know better than me, though.

You don't have to work for Sony to know that Sony can't control the prices EA puts games on sale for. I mean, c'mon.

I mean, seriously, your post is ridiculous. "I didn't realize you were an astronaut -- how can you know space is a vacuum?"

You don't need to make/max everything. And you can have the shops sell your S quality items to basically cut down on the time it takes to reproduce them. But I digress. Not trying to sell you guys on it. Just bothers me when people make a big deal out of the easy "time limit" on atelier games and use it as an excuse to not play them, when there are stricter limits/challenges on other games, for instance Persona series which no one ever complains about.

I've played two, quit two, because it drives me up a wall. It doesn't matter if they're easy, or if you know they're easy, because the issue is that it makes me second/triple guess every single thing I do and -worry- the entire game that I'm going too slow, even if I know people like you told me I have plenty of time. But wait... did they craft this too? Am i crafting too much? Should I push on the story or can I grind for materials here? On and on till I just get frustrated and play something that doesn't stress me out like that.

I'm with affa on this one. I played Rorona, quit, played and finished Totori because I really liked Totori as a character. Granted the time didn't give me any trouble but I was constantly wondering if I am doing things in an efficient manner. Then it turns out the true ending takes two playthroughs. Yeah...out of the question. Then started Meruru and immediately started to envision myself freaking out about what to do next every single day, so quit that. Which is frustrating because I really wanted to enjoy the series like I enjoyed Neptunia.

Same problem I have with Lightning Returns, I was so afraid that I couldn't get enough subquests to get the true ending that I had to lay out a time table on excel, and got four days extra in the end that I just slept through them all. Still beat it and got the true ending though, because I liked Lightning as a character.

It's not for everyone. And I know you tried it already. I'm just speaking in general here.

Like, in a game that has you choose one type of skill or another. Or a class promotion. Exit a dungeon you can't go back to and you forgot to grab a treasure chest. Doesn't that all create the same kind of anxiety? Yeah, you gotta make choices that aren't optimal sometimes. Some people just need to have the perfect run and I suppose that puts them off.

I would just say youtube the true ending. lol

New game from the Demon Gaze folks, out here in March. Supposed to be a "western" take on the genre but no idea what that means.

Telltale's head PR guy says The Walking Dead: Michonne is coming out soon:

And how many series are we still waiting on them to finish?

Is Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 for Vita any good?  And is it compatible with Playstation TV?

Nothing else interests me this week. I'm surprised the Playstation Plus discounts are on avatars.

I LOVE the Gaiden games. They both run at 30fps instead of 60 and the second game hitches a little. It's nothing that makes it unplayable as the trade off for portability was worth it for me, but it's something to note. I played 2 on the PS TV, but I'm not sure about 1. I think they're a steal for that price if you like action games. They've both aged pretty well IMO.

We tried to inform you on the topic and that seems to just get you riled up, so buy it or don't and move on.
No, I just said, once, that I'd like a sale on it sometime and you in particular said (among others):

That'll save you the need to ask about it every week.
Maybe if you don't want people to get "riled up" you should work on your delivery. I'm sorry others may have asked before me, and I'm sorry I didn't dig through the thread or follow it intently. I'm sorry I didn't own a PS4 yet when all the talk was going on about the developers perspective on sales, or follow his blog. I'm sorry I have an opinion on sale prices. I made a single comment that could easily be answered or direct me to an answer (or even ignored) and you and others treated me like I'm in here every week asking the same question over and over.

I'm glad you run the thread, it's nice to have deals updated regularly, but seriously, if you get short with someone don't just expect they run away with their tail between their legs.

I think you're all overreacting.
I THINK YOU'RE UNDERREACTING!

Is there a reason telltale does the episode route? Why not just release the entire thing at once. They would probably get more work done too instead of switching gears all the time.

I kind of like the episodic format in theory but my problem is that when there is 3-4 months between episodes I tend to forgot what is going on and what characters I'm being nice/mean to, etc. I started episode 2 of Tales of Borderlands shortly after it was released and couldn't remember jack shit about what was going on so I stopped and waited till they all got released. Now I'm playing through it from the beginning and enjoying it far more.

I'm feeling a Thanksgiving flash sale that'll have Axiom Verge included or it'll be free with Plus next month.
I'll go out on a limb and say it won't be PS+. The dev's approach to the whole thing and 30% EU and Steam sales don't indicate that and he said that the NA sale would be coming soon at a similar percentage.

I know nothing about these Atelier games except they appear to be cute waifu JRPGs. What's the deal with them?

Thoughts:

Toukiden Kiwami is the best MonHun you're going to get on Vita. I think it's simultaneously not as good as MH4U but nowhere close to as bad as MH4U. Other people will say "What about Soul Sacrifice?" They're wrong. SSD was wretched.

The Ninja Gaiden Sigma games are pretty damn close to "not a deal." at 5gb. Checking the prices now I realize I cheated Gamestop out of a NGS2+ at NGS1+ prices lol.*

NG3:RE is not even half as bad as people say it is... but that still leaves room for lots of bad. There's some real trash in this game, even the best games in the genre make you go through tedious crap but man, NG3:RE is some serious hot vs cold fun vs trash back and forth. Really worth playing if you like the style. I'm not sure this is a good deal though.

Deception 4 Nightmare Princess is really good but it not being on sale for Vita triggers me.

DW8XLCE is still probably the best mainline Warriors game. DW8E is trash. But SW4 isn't bad and SWC3 is quite good.

*Irrelevant but humorous: Years of trolling "CUHRAZEEE" games lovers by trying to stir up DMC vs NG flamewars has all but destroyed my ability to reason objectively about the NG games.

The Fenix Rage devs are being pushed to change the name of their game because of legal pressure from somebody with the rights to the "Rage" name.
Probably Bethesda, makers of the amazing Scrolls lawsuit
:

Indie game developer Green Lava Studios has been hard at work finalizing the addictive 2D action platformer Fenix 4@93 on the PlayStation®4 and Xbox One, the all-in-one games system from Microsoft. With brand new features, play modes, and fine-tuned gameplay, the frenzied platform experience everyone loved on PC has been perfected for current-gen consoles.

Due to legal reasons, the Fenix 4@93 game name has to change for the PS4 and Xbox One versions, courtesy of an unmentioned game corporation that has claimed specific naming rights to the word 4@93. The three-man Costa Rican team at Green Lava is disappointed in all this legal wrangling, but is not deterred from bringing its wicked-style of gaming fun to consoles this holiday season.

Step into the shoes of Fenix, a really sweet creature of speed and (blocky) cuteness…then feel his boundless rage. He is pissed! You would be too if your village was decimated by a huge explosion (and your game name was legally blocked!), leaving only two survivors: Fenix and the mysterious enemy Oktarus. Fenix will track down this shadowy villain through nine worlds, defeating righteously brutal bosses and hundreds of minions bent on his destruction, on a mission to return order and harmony back to his world.

Winner of the Gamemaker Showcase Game Of The Year award, Fenix 4@93 is in development for PlayStation®4, and the Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft. For the latest buzz and upcoming features, follow Fenix 4@93 on Twitter, and “Like” the game on Facebook.

FAQ

Q: So, a video game company is copyrighting the word “Rage”?
A: We didn’t say that, but seems that way, yes.

Q: That’s pretty lame, don’t you think?
A: There’s evidently a price for lameness that we can’t afford. But thankfully at Green Lava our awesomeness is relatively inexpensive.

Q: Fenix Ra…, er, your game was pretty awesome, how are you making it more so for PS4 and Xbone?
A: More info about what’s new in the upcoming Fenix game will be announced soon, but we definitely made gameplay tuning changes based on all the great feedback from players.

Q: Do you guys need a hug?
A: We’re OK, but…yes, hugs. And cookies.
Holy shitalls is this for real? How the hell do you trademark 'Rage'? So friggin lame. I had forgotten about that scrolls thing. What ever happened with that?

This is definitely the best Fallout of the modern generation. I would highly recommend checking out the other 2 at some point although they'd probably be better on a medium-powered computer than the last generation consoles.
You do know there are other Fallout games other than 3 and New Vegas right? =P Though the first two were isometric RPG's and the spinoffs like brotherhood of steel were kinda action rpg things

Telltale's head PR guy says The Walking Dead: Michonne is coming out soon:

This is what's been keeping me from buying a physical copy of season 2. I didn't want a 'Complete' version coming out like the first had. Does anyone know if they will be releasing a complete version like they did with 400 days for this?

Unlikely. Season 2 has been out on disc for some time and Season 1 had 400 Days with it from the get go. This seems to be a whole side series.

I don't mind not having the max of everything... missing a chest does bother me -- I actually went back with a high level rogue and backtracked through every single dungeon in DA:Origins to open every chest... only to discover all the high level chests that only high level rogues could open contained absolute crap.

But still, that's just a chest. Atelier puts the entire game on the line.

It's hard to explain -- I can play Nethack over and over, and don't mind losing 5 hours of a game to a stupid move or deadly minotaur... it's the game. But those freakin' time limits in Atelier make me want to punch a whole in the wall.

I think it's because the game is so crafting oriented. And you have what, something like 2 years to beat the game? But then you look at going to somewhere, and it's 3 days travel, or crafting something, and it take like 9 days [or whatever]. And I'm like...crap, that's over a week... and I only have 104 weeks [or whatever it is] to beat the game. How can I waste 1% of my time just to craft some stupid sword or whatever. But I want that sword. And not only that, I actually want to re-craft my base materials before i even make that sword, so it's actually going to cost me 2 weeks. Fucucucuucucck you, game.

Ultimately I like crafting and getting everything just right, but the threat of time limit stresses turns the best thing about the game into a stress machine.

I know nothing about these Atelier games except they appear to be cute waifu JRPGs. What's the deal with them?
Plot - really sweet crafting girl goes on an adventure to make friends and such!

Combat -- turn based. not the best ever, pretty standard. You often just make bombs for your crafty girl who throws them and kills stuff... though some friends you meet will help, etc.

Crafting -- where the game shines. Very deep crafting system. Materials have bonuses that can be 'pushed' from tier to tier to create really good stuff. Like, for [made up] example, if you craft water and eggs you get poached eggs. But if you craft holy water and eggs, you get eggs that kill zombies. But if you poach holy water and golden goose eggs, you get.... etc. There's a way to get the store to stock stuff once you make it once, so you can reproduce good base materials quickly.

Quests -- mostly material fetching.

Areas -- areas are mostly for collecting materials. Killling monsters is pretty optional, usually.

Biggest issue -- the games [except maybe the most recent?] have a timer. Travelling to an area costs time, and crafting costs time. If this triggers you, you'll hate the games even if you want to enjoy them.

Personally, I don't like the story but I did like the crafting. Time limits triggered me.

If you're completionist or plating it, you also need to be in specific places at specific times to talk to people, which also annoys me.

They settled:

I don't think the Michonne thing is a one episode spin-off, as I believe it's going to last a few episodes.

So... if I bought something a week ago that's suddenly on sale $20 cheaper today, I don't suppose I could contact customer support and expect any kind of understanding to be reached.

I contacted them one time when I bought a movie and it went on sale for 75% off the next day. They gave me a "one time exception" coupon for the difference in price. I don't know if I'd do it again. It took about an hour long chat (off and on) and a few days for them to send the code. I probably was added to a black list somewhere.

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and tried chatting with a rep and managed to get a similar one-time exception, to be delivered 3-5 days hence.

The Top Sellers for PSN in October is out now. AC Syndicate took the top spot on PS4 with the Uncharted collection at #2 while Minecraft took two spots in the top 10 and Rocket League continues to show staying power with another top 10 finish. PS3 has two Minecraft games at the top of its list along with a bunch of Halloween sale games. Rocket League's DLC took the top two spots, and three of the top ten, for PS4 Add-ons last month while PS3 is all Call of Duty packs and an Evanescence song. Vita's top sellers features Sword Art Online at the top and Persona 4: DAN, Organ Trail, and Heroes of Loot also making the list. Mega Man Legends dominated the PS1/PS2 Classics list by taking the #1 spot.

I'm glad to see a game like Rocket League get real sales in addition to whatever they "sold" being a PS Plus freebie (not to mention DLC sales). I figured it wouldn't get many real dollar sales after it's initial release. Hopefully other developers will see that as a viable sales model for equally good games.
