My bold prediction is PS+ gets Assassin's Creed 3 for the big August game. Because of Black Flag soon and DLC and plummeting prices.

Wow, another nice haul for EU+.    I second the request for a decent racing game for NA+.  LBP carting I found kinda meh.

Who knows maybe US+ will get something like DMC and Most Wanted. Since they are trying to match EU+ contents so thats quite possible, on the other side Vita doesnt have much love, PSOne then PSP???

I thought I would love every Dreamcast game, and I still have the original system and tons of games, but Iike a few here I just couldn't get into Jet Set Radio. I tried it the second time, and promptly put it away for good.

I hated Datura. That game made me really dizzy. I got it for free, but I wouldn't have paid for it. The game is about 2 hours long, and it plays like an incoherent nightmare.

Oh yeah, this August EU PS+ lineup doesn't match up at all with that leaked info...EU was rumored to be getting DMC and Little King's Story this month.

Well, with my 30 some gold trophies I should be able to win a 1-square cm piece of fabric from the Assassins Creed IV costume.

I didnt even know about this promotion until I went here. I remember seeing a "greatness awaits" link under the "What's New" section when my PS3 started up, but I never clicked on it.

Sony really should do more to promote things like this besides tucking them away under the "What's New" section.

Place contests and fun stuff like this front and center.

I played it back on the Dreamcast and yeah it's aged just like any other old game but it's definitely one of the classics. Feels the same to me now as it did back then just like you. Except I have a lot less patience now and way more games to play haha.

I think for a lot of us, or maybe at least for me, we didn't have but a few games growing up. So no matter how hard it was (Castlevania lol) we just stuck to it and ran on. Now we are spoiled by choice and more of a disposable income. Atleast those of us without kids haha.
I also have 0 patience now. Dont have time to waste replaying a section over and over again. Just want to have fun.

Older folks (33 here) have to realize we all have more options than we did when we were kids in the 80s or even the 90s. And it bears repeating what we all know. Action games were hard as balls back in the day because they didnt have more than an hour or two of content due to the tech.

Thankfully as tech got better and better they could make better and more elaborate games that are much more accessible to everyone. Which in turns helps the industry grow and provide better and better games to all of us. I am glad games are "easier" overall and more people game so I have more to choose from.

I've been gaming since the dark ages too, but i disagree. I like my games hard. I hate being handheld.

I think many games are so simplified today that it's ridiculous. A trained monkey could beat them, because you're forever being pushed forward. I do know what you mean, though... but I don't think it's us 'getting old'. I think it's us playing too many easy games.

Many features - automapping, quest arrows, health regen, constant checkpoints, infinite lives, easy access to game guides online, etc) -- have come into existence that in some ways aid gamers and gaming, but at a price. They not only simplify the games these features exist in, but they condition us to expect handholding. We get used to constantly being pushed forward, so when there's an actual challenge many gamers get frustrated. I love hard games, but even I now sometimes feel lost and frustrated w/o a quest arrow telling me where to go. That never used to happen, and I don't think it's because i'm "older"... I think it's because I've been conditioned to not ever be "lost" in games. Confused? Google it.

I'm not saying all games should force us to map, or that we should get rid of health regen, etc. I understand the appeal of some of these features. But once introduced, these features have changed gaming, and gamers, often permanently, and always in the direction of 'easier'.

Automapping, for example, has changed dungeons in games from twisted mazes of puzzles and death... to straightforward tunnels that occasionally have a slight side-path leading to a chest. Exceptions exist, of course... but they are just that, exceptions.

Backlog doesn't help either, of course. Back in the day you spent all your time on a new game because that's all you had. I'd play games for years, sometimes. Now? Plat and sell. I liked the old way better.

You can always go back and play those old/hard games. They may be even harder now since your conditioned to play easy games. :)

I hear you but I like having more options now and if you really want a challenge most games allow you to change difficulty and other options to make it harder. Just because you CAN play a game easier doesnt mean you have to.

PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD on PS Vita July 30th $14.99

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/07/17/pixeljunk-monsters-ultimate-hd-on-ps-vita-july-30th/

----------------------------------------------

Entering PS Plus in July/August:EU

31st July: Need for Speed: Most Wanted
31st July: Mafia 2
31st July: Spec Ops: The Line
31st July: Lego Lord of the Rings
31st July: When Vikings Attack!

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2013/07/17/playstation-plus-in-august-need-for-speed-most-wanted-mafia-ii-more/
I'd love to see Mafia 2 in NA. Also, Spec Ops would be nice since I missed it when it was on PS+ earlier this year.

I agree with affa. Everytime I see someone say they have no patience anymore or get frustrated easily, I cringe.
I have loads of patience, just less than when I was a kid with no money haha. I enjoy every kind of game, but I'm not going to sit there and try to beat a game on a Castlevania NES style of hardness now unless I'm really in the mood for it.

How did all this start anyways? Is someone not allowed to think Jet Set Radio is too hard for them? We're all different types of gamers here in one big cheap ass family! :grouphug: Hug it out!

I think those of you that want games that are really hard are a small subset of gamers. It's not like there aren't games made for that niche, look at Dark/Demon Souls. Most people don't want to play those games but I'd wager those of you saying you like hard games are fans of those.

I've got a couple of screaming kids and when I play games I want to relax and have fun. I don't need more stress in my life.

I finally beat Castlevania NES when i got to college, and downloaded it online.

I had a nintendo when i was 4-6. Beating that game at an early age was borderline impossible. Fate gave me a second chance years later!

I hate easy games. I don't mind difficulty, but i hate games that spoon feed you. In my honest opinion, thats what has diminished the quality of games overall.

Back in my day you earned unlockables. Folks just buy them for $4.99 now

I was only able to beat it as a kid because I spent nonstop hours on it haha. And you know what the worst part of beating it is? You start right back over at the first level. It's like a slap in the face. HA so what you beat the game! Do it again right now pansy!!!

I enjoy the slow, methodical and strategic aspect of some hard games, For instance in FTL, sometimes the RNG will fuck you in the early levels, but if you make it through the first 1/3rd of your playthrough, success or failure likely comes down to your upgrade choices and tactics. You can pause the game, consider your action, then implement it. What I don't particularly enjoy is "twitch hard," having to rapidly execute a long, precise series of moves/actions in order to win. For instance probably my all time favorite most liked yet most hated game is Battletoads. The beatem-up portion with friends is a blast and so fun but the speeder bike level is the worst kind of twitch hard, and I was never able to progress any further because of it, even to this day.

Anytime you have a time limit in order to accomplish something also infuriates me, which is why Dead Rising pisses me off so much.

All games were hard back then, I don't think I beat any nes game other than Rampage, Ikari Warriors and Contra- games with (near) infinite continues and could co-op in order to justify spending hours at a clip in front of a tv.

If Skyrim didn't have a savegame option, fast travel, a map and a questlog, it wouldn't be difficult, it would be a broken, unplayable mess.

Thought I might post this here since a lot of us have vitas. Delete if too off topic. Namco just released the trailer for their new Adventure Time game. When asked why the vita wasn't getting a port, they responded as follows:

LOL. I thought it was hilarious. Brazenly unprofessional and dismissive, but hilarious nonetheless.  Guess they had the balls to say what other publishers won't (though the wii u port is confusing).

how do i check my ps+ subscription? i see no option on the ps3 menu. i used to just load up a free game and look at the expiration date there. However i just used a 1 year card to stack on m y existing sub, and doing that still shows the old 2014 expiration. where can i check on this? i had heard you could stack them, i hope i didnt just waste a code

What kind of masochist hates automapping? I, for one, am happy that I haven't had to break out the graph paper in years. Twisty little passages, all alike? Good riddance.

Wow Namco...just wow. I bet some desk jockey just got banned from using their official twitter account again lol.

It may not seem to cover that, but you can check the expiration date the same way.

that a shame, i prefer a pretty lie like them saying sorry, budget, time constraint, were thinking about it but nothing official, versus nope, why would we bother? not worth the $$$. even if that post was a poor taste joke

It may be in bad taste, but I find the brutal honesty refreshing.
Yeah, but that's simply not how you do things in the business or customer service world. If I said something like that to one of our patients my boss would fire me. And I've seen many people get fired for crap like that in the retail world I worked in for too many years.

That would be like me saying "Oh you don't have an insurance we cover? Who has that insurance anyways though? AM I RIGHT?" LAWL

It's just bad taste all around.

Am I the only person that would like to see Grandia II and III on PSN?  (I would prefer PS2 version of II, but the DC version would be fine, too)

How could anyone prefer that TERRIBLE port of Grandia 2? The PS2 version was horrendous. Muddy graphics, glitches up the ass and was just ugly to look at.

Hah, bravo Namco, bra-frikkin-vo.

I'm confused why you'd prefer the ps2 version haha. But yeah I love me some Grandia. Would be nice to see the rest of Suikoden up there too for people that don't own them physically. I'm never giving up my coveted Suikoden 1 and 2 I was lucky to get lol.

They didn't diss it. They just said that no one has one, which is true.
Damnit I bought something I swore was a Vita...not gonna let Sony con me again! :joystick:

EDIT: You know what that comment just reminded me of? One that would be perfect in a GameFAQs thread! Which I'm sure there are about 20 threads about this exact thing going on there right now with comments like that :p Blah rant over I'm off to bed folks.

There is no such thing as a Vita, Sony just glued some spare nubs on the other side of a PSP and painted Vita on it.

Aren't there like 4 million vita owners worldwide now? Since our game supply is short, why not port to I and hope to sell a fraction of thag worldwide on the vita.? Should be enough to cover expense.
See above.

You guys are being pedantic. I like my Vita but I'll be the first to admit that its reception is tepid at best. I haven't looked at the figures myself, but I'm under the impression that it's selling less than PSP did at this point in its lifecycle.

I've got a real love for Jet Set Radio. Downloaded it at around 8pm. 100%d by midnight.
I love that game, too, but I am terrible at it. I did finish the tutorial without much trouble. I mainly miss one or two tags and it takes me forever to find them. Now I just need the Shenmue HD remakes. I thought those were confirmed? Or someone found mention of it in steam files or something...I can't remember, but I'm hoping for it.

Ya, there is an infamous anecdote about Demon's Souls, the reason Sony didn't publish it in America like they did in Japan is one of the big wigs in Sony America sat down to play the game, and after 2 hours he was still right where he started. "This is a broken, unbelievably bad game." So the fox said "I didn't want those grapes anyway" and he decided not to publish it in America allowing Atlus to pick up the football and run it all the day down to the other end of the field.

From what I understand, the attach rate is also very high since there are "no games." If you have a niche game, now's the time to release it on the Vita.

I actually got a Vita recently from cowboom....yeah I just realized I want almost no games out. I'll play the PS+ games, and eventually get Muramasa and P4 Golden....but yeah nothing until those niche games come out later this year/2014. I do got some PSN games but yeah that Vita list just doesn't excite me. I may be in the minority but yeah need more games...and I would love the Vita tales games...but we'll never get them esp with the Twitter comment. Oh well I wont regret the purchase since indie games will be a big focus (including a favorite of mine Spelunky)...I just hope after this set of niche games (thank you NISA!) that more good stuff will come.

I hear you but I like having more options now and if you really want a challenge most games allow you to change difficulty and other options to make it harder. Just because you CAN play a game easier doesnt mean you have to.
Almost all games today simply do some sort of damage multiplier / health reduction type 'difficultly' level. Rarely does difficulty affect AI (other than dumbing down already dumb opponents). This usually breaks game balance. Rarely is each difficultly level fine tuned. TLOU did a decent job of it, but even that wasn't particularly difficult even on Survivor due to checkpoints.

I could not disagree more. I love games today because they're an experience, a story that you're an integral part and you move through it to the end. Games back in the day had no story except an overarching goal that you continuously attempted to reach from level to level. I think making difficult games is easy but I'd rather someone craft extra time to give me a sound, story, developing experience that draws emotions and fun and triumphs into one.
I'm sorry, but this is just factually wrong. Many games of the day, especially rpgs like Bard's Tale, Ultima, etc all had relatively deep stories. In some cases, the stories were deeper than today because it was all text (think Infocom) and they didn't need to voice or motion cap anything.

That's just it, though. All games used to be as hard or harder than D*Souls. Now it's a super niche category. That's the casualization of gaming in a nutshell. It's great for the casual gamer. It sucks for those who like a challenge. It is what it is.

What kind of masochist hates automapping? I, for one, am happy that I haven't had to break out the graph paper in years. Twisty little passages, all alike? Good riddance.
I liked that dungeons used to be complex puzzles with riddles, spinner traps, teleport traps, and death around every corner. Compare that to the dungeons of one of the better RPGs this gen - Dragon's Age... in which the dungeons were linear with slight branching for chests. Was DA good? Yep. But we lost stuff in the translation.

Listen, I know I'm in the minority. Demon's Souls was my favorite game this gen. I've ascended in NetHack w/o scum saving. I wish FTL had a hard mode (really, I do). And I realize there are many people out there who have only gamed on IOS, or only gamed this gen. I understand pubs/devs need mass appeal. All understandable. I 'get' why all these features got added, and in many cases, I don't mind them. But taken all together, it's simplified most games into interactive movies. Sometimes they're good (Uncharted)... but I miss the challenge gaming used to offer, especially on consoles.

And despite "difficultly" levels, it's really just not there anymore. Games, by and large, have been absolutely neutered in terms of difficultly, to the point where people call Demon's Souls hard even though every single boss is intentionally exploitable (don't get me wrong, it's still my GOTG).

Did you ever play Legend of Grimrock on PC or the Etrian Odyssey series on DS? Legend of Grimrock had some sort of physical version that came with custom graph paper and the digital version came with a .pdf of it so you could print them if you wanted. If I remember correctly, Phantasy Star was pretty tough without graph paper too. These are all games I like a lot, but I like the Etrian Odyssey games since you can just map it on the bottom screen instead of having to use paper. I'd be interested in seeing more modern games do this.

I think someone mentioned earlier how bad Skyrim would be if it were, basically, a roguelike? I bet there's a mod for that. Time to look.
