Isn't your retirement age 67? At least as far as Social Security is concerned?
For 100% of SS benefits, yes. You can actually start drawing at 62 for SS as of now but your benefit amount is reduced. Do not expect that to be the same for any of us except maybe Chewy by the time we get there. Many of us may never even see a penny of SS money.

The age you can start withdrawing from a Roth any type of IRA for retirement is 59.5 as of now.

There are rules that allow you to take out of a 401k starting at 55 without penalties.

I really don't ever see myself having children. So if I get married or have a permanent girlfriend at most that will only be two people to take care of. So I'd actually like to retire in my late 50's which I don't think is an overly ambitious goal for myself at this point. I'm only about 4 years away from paying my house off which will be a great first step towards saving more and having less expenses when I am retired.

But yes I believe 67 is the age for full social security, and it will probably be higher than that by the time I'm there anyway.

Time for Seahawks fans to focus on the NBA season...

The NBA doesn't exist around here. Not since they stole our Sonics out from under us.

We do pay attention to struggling franchises though. I hear your Bucks are having arena issues, eh??

Did you guys at the Federal Hat Enforcement Agency help the SSA with it or something?
They just stole all our numbers. You're allowed to wear a smaller hat with a penalty at 62 or no penalty at 67. I don't know about the website specifically though. I've been too busy handing out fines for hat code violations.

None of you just go blow some money on a nice $500 dinner or go to the casino or go on a nice vacation and not worry about money for a few days?
Spending $500 on something that will become poop within 24 hours is the height of insanity to me. If human beings possessed the ability to intensely recall tastes and scents years later then maybe I could see splurging on an excellent "taste memory".

In the meantime though, give me 100 $1 hookerbots over 1 $100 hookerbot any day.

Maybe this would help with the investment?

You could just keep the poop in a box forever. That would probably be worth the $500, right? Actually, hold on, I need to set up an ebay auction.

How my retirement works is you need 30 years in and be at least 60 yo. Works out fine for me because I started there at age 28. Instead of social security, we pay into our own railroad retirement savings, so that's a plus if ss goes down the drain. We get a pension plan after 5 or 10 years of service. I think what I've heard is once retired, we get around 75% of what we were making while working.

You mentioned this earlier, too. Why are you in such a hurry to pay off the house? Unless you haven't refi'ed in the last few years? I love my low rate mortgage loan and plan to hold on to it as long as I can. It's a great hedge against inflation, and money's rarely been cheaper.

beat the second of my feb 4, demon gaze. granted this was a cheap one. since i only had 3 more dungeons to go through. did have to do an extra few hours equipment farming/grinding to beat the final boss. gonna keep playing anyway since there's new dungeons unlocked, and a platinum still to earn.

I don't think I've ever spent $100 on a single meal.  Priciest meal I ever remember buying was in the Space Needle, don't remember how much it was though.

Seriously, do none of you guys just splurge on something sometimes? And I am not talking about video game or other nerd related collectables either. None of you just go blow some money on a nice $500 dinner or go to the casino or go on a nice vacation and not worry about money for a few days?

Oh wait. That's right. You guys blow a SHIT ton of money on "collectables" and thousands of video games you will never play.

the one day I actually did work is the day of finance talk?!?

My work kinda sucks cause I work for a non-profit and instead of 401K its 403B.  And they only just started matching (2%, lol) for employees who have been there 3+ years.  I've been there about 14 months.

The $130 meal I mentioned as my highest was me and the wife.

Individually I've probably hit closer to $75-$80 on my own. That's including a few margaritas, though. Drinks are expensive.

YOU CANNOT HAVE OUR BUCKS! DO YOU HEAR ME SEATTLE?!? THEY'RE STAYING!
You know Wren has an excellent point. Since you enjoy your team from afar, nothing is precluding you from enjoying them just as much when they play in their new palace in Seattle. Besides, it would be payback for your thievery of the Seattle Pilots.

For someone who has said that he is happy with his investments and wouldn't bother with getting the extra money by changing his deductions to get the extra money, it seems to make a lot of sense to pay off the mortgage to me. If he was really going to put that money to work, it could be different.

That's not a bad point. I wouldn't mind rooting for the Sonics. I enjoyed the time I spent at Key Arena for a game in the late '90s. Plus they are green and gold.

Can you explain this? I'm not sure what the benefit is to holding on to the home loan. What does that have to do with inflation?

Apotheon just crashed on me.  I'm also not really digging the combat.  I think that one is going into the digital backlog for a while.  I'm surprised the game didn't grab me, I love games like that.
