Group Buys - Updated 05/20

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales
Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
How is BC2 if you are only going SP with it? Just dont have time for MP with 3 kids! LOL
Not really worth it.
The SP is pretty generic. The MP is amazing though.

Get to pm'ing :p
Not worth it. It lasts a few hours but the bulk of the game is multiplayer.
Thanks guys! Wish I had time for MP, but nice to save the 5 for something else!

Same question on Magicka - how is SP? is it worth it?

dont bother with magicka for sp imo

i disagree on bc2, if you like shooters and military type shooters you shoudl get it, its nothign ground breakign but is better than most imo. its a very good game and my favorite of its kind in recent years.

i cant see any complaints really at full retail let alone its current price.

Just so I'm clear, I'm really just interested in playing minerva's den. Can I buy bioshock 2 on steam and minerva's den on d2d or gfw and it'll work?

I actually really liked the single player for BC2, its kinda of short, about 5 hours long. But it is a lot of fun, I liked it more than most Call of Duty game's single player. The characters have personalities and they dont seem too generic, it's very fun. For $5 i'd say its worth it for just the single player and hey, maybe youll find time later for a couple multiplayer matches here and there even if it's never something you get all to into.
Yes, that is what happens.

Ah, thanks very much. I'm planning to use tickets to get the Guardians of Graxia, Dwarfs, and A Reckless Disregard for Gravity by the end of the promo, if I can. Already got the Delve Deeper prize.
I can't believe Meat Boy is twice the price it was in the last holiday sale. What a shame, I would have gotten it for 3.xx.
A lot of people were pissed off that the game was that cheap. If I recall right, the developer was surprised Steam decided to discount the game so drastically so soon after release.
Man I am loving Spectromancer http://store.steampowered.com/app/22500/ $5 for the game and all of its DLC. Basically if Magic the Gathering and Puzzle Quest had a baby this would be it. (One of the designers is the creator of Magic: The Gathering)
My husband and I are big MTG fans, and he played the crap out of Spectromancer. He wants me to get him the DLC, but we're waiting until the end of the Summer Sale in case there's a daily deal for it.
Getting the ticket for Hoard is frickin hard. And I thought myself good at this game.
I tried horde mode and I fail in seconds. I think I suck at this game lol

For the HOARD ticket, play the last map (spiral) and stay in the bottom right. Keep it cleared and you'll eventually get it. Just shoot the carriages that come down to you and shoot across the gap at the other ones.

Is anyone else having trouble downloading games? Darksiders has been going at half of my max speed and falling to 0 mbps every other minute.

Do the last map. In the bottom left corner just hover over the water between the outermost and center path. From there you can hit most carriages, as well as avoid any knights that want to attack. Move off the spot occasionally to take care of pesky mage towers.

Welcome to a steam sale? Every sale people have trouble with doing their downloads. Some people get their stuff fine (Like I did with tf2 and Lead & Gold) but others get almost no where. My suggestion is either switch to a new downloading zone or wait until after the sale.

I am usually too preoccupied with the sale to really download the games I am buying (Of course I wanted those tickets so I had to) until after.

Its been kinda spotty.

22KB/s for Eve Online
899KB/s for Magicka

Has anyone had some hands-on time with Jamestown? I was sold when I saw the screenshots, but after finding out there was no online multiplayer I've kind of ignored it.
Amazing, 3rd day and still not a single purchase. Cmon Batman AA, Call of Juarez BB and Dragon Age 2!
Are you serious? You could try branching into new games for $1-$5. It's not a big risk. This is the perfect time to try new genres.

I did the Hoard ticket by playing the first map and hanging around the bottom left corner until I got it. Eventually giants start spawning and do all the work for you, and there's not much to threaten you down there.

I just finished Chapter 1 of the game and got a small taste of what it's like (also played a Horde-esque mode online) and so far it's ok.
Basically you go around fighting bad guys and using spells and stuff to kill them and you solve some puzzles involving the spells along the way. For example a really basic one would be
Combine arcana and lightning orbs and launch an area spell to activate 2 generators at the same time to open a door.

So far the game seems worth the $3, but not much more.
I'm glad I didn't shell out the extra $5 for the complete pack.
It's nowhere near my top games but it's pretty good for the price.

Yeah, I eventually found that tip and got through the map. Took me at least six tries, but I finally got the achievement and ticket.
how many more days are these steam deals going to be going on?
The sales go through July 10th, and every day has different Daily Deals which are the focus. Still, there are hundreds of other games on sale.
Are you serious? You could try branching into new games for $1-$5. It's not a big risk. This is the perfect time to try new genres.
I agree. I'm searching for some good cheap games I can try out.
Terraria for sure. But IDK what else. But I guess that's what daily deals are for :p

If you go to the top of the steam client you can select the genre "RPG" and see what they have on offer. During a huge sale this is especially helpful to protect your search from undesirable deals.
Last Remnant maybe
I guess I should have specified something more old-schooley or indie-ish. Like Breath of Death VII and Cthulu Saves the World on the 360.

Both of which are coming to Steam, BTW. I can't think of any already on it, though there were rumors at one time of FF7/8 coming to Steam.

I have a 360, but I'm holding out for the PC (i.e. best) versions of the games. At only $3, this would be a rare day-one (or even pre-order) purchase for me.
Both of which are coming to Steam, BTW. I can't think of any already on it, though there were rumors at one time of FF7/8 coming to Steam.
I already have both of those games through XBLA.

I looked through the RPG list on Steam, and I already own a lot of the lighter fare. Ah well.

I tried 15 times that way, I still couldn't do it :(

nvm i did do it, just no indication in game.
Well didn't buy anything yesterday and today I snagged Darksiders. Still considering Magicka.
Yeah Ive been looking at Magicka for awhile too. Kinda tempted to grab a 4-pack and give some out to friends, but Id like to grab the DLCs.

If people are looking for group buy 4-packs, you'll probably have more luck and faster turnaround by using the Steam group buy thread: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=279563&page=106
(And you'll also stop cluttering up this deal/discussion thread! Win win! :applause:)

How about the Shining Forces?

Personally, I'm hoping the $5 pack will drop by 66%. Yes, I am that cheap: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/7095/

I'm trying to get in a 4-pack myself.
If I were to buy the Unreal Deal Pack, and I already own Unreal Tournament 3, would I get that extra copy to give away to a friend?
Unfortunately no
If I were to buy the Unreal Deal Pack, and I already own Unreal Tournament 3, would I get that extra copy to give away to a friend?
No, there are only like 4 valve games that give you a gift if you already have it.

Does amazon give keys when you get games from them? They have saints row 2 for 6 bucks and I would love to have that, but only if it gives me a key since it can be registered on steam.

Looks interesting. How difficult is it to get up to speed on the rules?

And it's not a daily deal, correct? So it should stay that price (if not go cheaper) before the summer sale is over, right?

Thanks
Ok, I took a chance. Yes it does activate on steam for the 6 dollar saints row 2 :)
Didn't see your post. Depends on the game. If the game is Steam only like Saints Row 2 and Just Cause 2 then all versions will have to activate on Steam. Other games will not.
