This thread will attempt to provide a place to discuss past/present/future PC gaming deals. While mainly focusing on Steam games, any standout sales may also be presented. I will not be updating every Daily/Weekly/etc. sale. The tools to help individuals become a smarter shopper will be provided below.

Hardware talk so a bit of a warning.

New mobo arrived this morning. It was my first time replacing one in any circumstance and it went smoothly. I took my time and triple checked everything and largely found it enjoyable despite considerable apprehension when I pressed the power button :D Everything booted up on first try and no issues to speak of bar what I initially expected: My GPU is officially toast, when power was connected to it, the PSU flashes for a split second and nothing powers up. I imagine it shorted or something as thats the only thing I can think of. Next step: RMA once my move is firmly set. I can't even consider doing it before, so I'm down for the count until further notice. Once I get the RMA sent in it seems MSI's best case scenario is 2 weeks, worst case more like 4.

At any rate, I'll probably join for Drawful tonight since that is not taxing on my onboard video which is actually better with my new mobo, but nothing that will allow me to play much beyond basic games :D

They are putting out small batches of keys apparently as they work on server issues or something. So people have been missing them. They put a small batch on Steam/their website, they sell out and then a few weeks later they put up some more. Sounds like they found an interesting way to get people to hurry to buy keys for an iffy looking EA game, imho. *shrugs*

 
Discovered that my GPU issue (system not powering on while card installed) is a damage prevention measure built into the card. Basically if the card goes on the fritz, it will not allow the system to power on to prevent damaging other components. This is in ref to the Nvidia 900 series, dunno how other manufacturers work.

I had 3 (well 4 if you count the DOA), EVGA 960's all crap out within 2 years. A new one that lasted about a year, a refurbished one that lasted for a month, a refurbished one that was DOA, and a refurbished one that lasted 9 months.

Has anyone tried idling cards recently? Have the new rules changed anything for you?

I have 111 games left to idle, and want to make sure I don't waste my time (as much.)

This place needs custom ratings like 'decline' from RPG Codex.

Only place G1 and 2 don't age well is in the graphics department. And that can be overlooked given how well constructed the game world is in both settings.

Geez; that's A LOT of game-time for $3.

Gothic series is truly underrated.

For me, Gothic 1 is the real gem of the series - as it felt fresh, new, different, and atmospheric as can be. Legendary game.

Sure, Gothic 2 is a bigger + badder G1 - but, a lot of the problems I felt were multiplied quite a bit there (combat system felt more clunky + over-dosage of re-used voice-actors). Still, easy enough to highly recommend...since it's still very good.

Gothic 3 was also good - but ran horribly when it came out. Questing didn't feel as intricate or as interesting as often G2+G3 b/c this felt more like the game was made to be huge in size + with less of the decision-making stuff; like say a Morrowind or Skyrim. Quests often felt like your typical MMO-fests (i.e. kill X guys, find X items, etc). While combat felt MUCH better control-wise, you could easily spam attacks + get an enemy stuck and easily kill them no matter their level. It's best to play Enhanced version to balance the combat.

Great series, easy to recommend. Easy to recommend for those who like difficult + challenging games.

Even more so at $3.

I dunno why someone wouldn't play both Gothic Universe + W3. They are both great, in different ways.

I've been playing W3 of late. Yeah, that game's great so far. Some 13 hours or so total invested into it.

No. Im going to mail it back once I have a moving date. Theres a delay in paperwork, probably leaving next week which compounded all of this bullshit. Was supposed to have left today but the buyer's lawyer didnt have the title from the company yet.

There's nothing to do with the card now other than ship it. Not going to risk ruining a warranty and DIYing when I can get a new one or a refurb thats functional. Was on Toms and also contacted MSI, both said just to RMA it. Another dude on Toms chimed in and had literally the exact same problem I did and there was nothing he could do to fix his.

Yea mine was picked up in Nov '15, so not even 2 full years. Hopefully the new one lasts til I can get a steal on a 10 series.

I think Witcher 1 was great b/c of its story, plot, characters, setting, and the way it did the choices+consequences thing.

Yeah, the W1 combat was different - but eh, it's nowhere even close to what W2+W3 are doing. The combat system in those are tons better.

I think what I liked about W1 was you often wouldn't see your decisions' results for numerous hours later - so you could get stuck having to either stick w/ your decision + result or take the hike to go way back on a save if you didn't like your results. Plus, it didn't really make your choices predictable for decision + results - i.e. doing good stuff results in good results or doing bad resulted in bad stuff happening, like in many other games (i.e. older BioWare games). There were often shades of gray here. Sometimes, getting the best type of result w/ the least casualties or problems was either by doing nothing or doing something evil.

I enjoyed the first Witcher. There were some really well written quests like the murder investigation where your ability to solve it was based on a lot of small things like whether or not you had read a certain book or researched some insect species, etc. Witcher 2 I stopped playing after the first boss which was a QTE derp fest. I also don't think the mass reagent/crafting style of loot fits that game well.

That reminds me about how I got the "bad" ending on W3 and there was no way that I would want to replay 1/3 of the game just to get a better one lol

So Dead Cells is a lot of fun but at the moment there are only six or seven areas and two bosses.  It is great fun but I think it is going to be a while before it resembles a complete experience of any kind.

 
When you make an impulse purchase and immediately regret it while your game takes 7 hours to download.  Grabbed Tekken 7 from cdkeys on an impulse seeing that it had actually released a couple hours ago and wanting to make sure I got the day one edition character since I actually wanted to play her.  Rashly bought it without double checking to see that I could have paid like $3 more and gotten the character for sure.  That might be a new record for personal buyer's remorse.

Oh and you're welcome for it being a $1 tier in an upcoming Humble.

But did you get her? It should be as dlc for the game so you can see it without installing the game.

I nearly did the same thing on CDKeys last night but ended up just ordering it on PS4. Much as I'd like the 1440/144hz, I don't know how much I'll end up playing it and there's no cross play like with Street fighter 5

On my wishlist for sure...but i'll wait till it's ready to come out. I dislike EA games for the most part cause of this.

I had a similar issue in SWTOR when I was a subscriber. The XP boosts are ridiculous. I was literally skipping entire planets so that combat would be somewhat challenging, and doing 4 player group missions solo. That's the number one thing that frustrated me and turned me off to that game. Never ran into it in BDO though.

Remember that as well, while I was subcribed to SWTOR. Went from doing all the side missions as f2p, to just trying to quickly blitz the main missions (and still usually being overleveled for those). Not that I minded as much, find MMO grinding to be annoying personally, then I'll gear grind in Diablo 3 because problems or something, dunno (I'd gear grind in GD but been hooked on the simpler D3, plus not sure i want to dedicate 50+ hours to all my characters to run the story in GD =/).

I'm not really a fan of grinding either, but I will say I prefer grinding to rolling through the game like an unstoppable boulder crashing down a hill. There was no challenge to the point of the game feeling dull and meaningless. I mean, it's an MMORPG, so when you break it down, you're just clicking your hotkeys, waiting for cooldowns, etc, so when it's ridiculously easy... that's all it feels like. When there's something of a challenge, and you're actually forced to consider your actions, item use, healing, whatever, it's a much more engaging experience.

If I ever went back to the game, I'd certainly do so not as a subscriber (that boost is way too high), playing multiple characters and sharing side missions between them (basically character A does side quest A, B, C, etc, while character B does side quest D, E, F, etc). I did that to some extent last I played, but being subscribed still made it annoying, and my favorite, highest level character had gotten to the point of just destroying anything thrown at her (even handling 4 player group missions solo with general ease), so I just drifted from the game entirely.
