GetGamesGo Daily Deal:

Grid 2 - $7.49 (75% off)

Activates on Steam.

ITAD check shows this is the lowest price historically.
It was free as part of a Facebook giveaway a couple of months ago. They gave away 100 keys for 100 days if I recall correctly.

It's good but $7.49 is expensive. There might be a key or two floating around in the Steam Trading Thread for considerably less.

What about Hot Pursuit?
Hot Pursuit is freaking awesome! I'm a huge Burnout fan, and it's basically an updated version of Burnout 2 (minus the crash mode), with a fantastic sense of speed, super arcade-y controls, and a great leaderboards system that makes it effortless to race against your friends' best times (aside from having to manually add them all in game, silly EA). I picked it up for $5 during either the Autumn or Holiday sale, and have enjoyed the heck out of what I've played so far. Definitely worth the price and then some!

One thing of note is that it DOES seem to have some Windows 8 problems, namely some people (myself included) have run into some annoying microstuttering. It's not so bad I can't enjoy the game, but if that's something that really bothers you and you have 8 it might be a problem. Also you'll need to use an external program if you want some better AA/*insert graphics filtering effect* since the in game options are pretty sparse (the game looks decent as is though, I think).

I have 7. I might have to get this then. Is there any cityscape style areas? All videos I've seen just show mountainous regions and desert looking areas. I do like the snowy areas though but want some city or at least town areas to drive through.

uh, I recall you drive through some lumber camps. does that count? Pretty much all the races are in rural/coastline locations, if you're looking for in city racing you'll have to try one of the older NFS games (I hate EA so much for not putting Underground on Steam), or Burnout Paradise which you should already have and is also quite good.

I have it yeah. The city stuff wasn't exactly a requirement or anything. It does suck that Underground isn't on Steam. Neither is Carbon and I love Carbon.

Carbon was the last one I played on consoles, and my first taste of open-world racing. Enjoyed it a lot, but it doesn't stick with me like Underground (which I spent probably more time with than any other racing game ever, save maybe Burnout Revenge, which also deserves a Steam release).

I still have the soundtrack from Underground going around my head, so many great tracks,

Wrong thread. That's what I get for having multiple windows open.
It happens to the best of us... but it is a sure sign of old age. :p

And the best RPG of all time gets even better

Edit: I think I'm about to pre-order a game...for console...for full price...oh Dark Souls 2, you dirty dog
Wut? Hell, at that rate you might as well kickstart a game also... ;)

(And at least with KS it will be cheaper than a reseller will have it at launch and not 60 bucks.)

Edit: Asheskitty, thoughts on the EA Shift (N4S) games? (Also do you remember is Tages DRM active on the Shift 2?)

Underground was awesome I liked 2 even more. One fond memory of from the first though was racing one race in the chinatown area and hitting one bump in the road so fast that I rocketed into the air and blasted right into an archway of one the paifang gates.

I hated Hot Pursuit, I don't like the combat/weapons and it was leaning too far in the direction of sim than arcade for me. I would be trying to do races and doing what I felt was a pretty good job and still never come close to qualifying.

I feel so dirty...but Dark Souls is one of my favorite games of all time, so I've been looking forward to Dark Souls 2 ever since it was announced. I just can't stand to wait a month and a half for the PC version, which would undoubtedly by cheaper...at least buying it for 60 gets the automatic upgrade to the "Black Armor Edition," which comes w/the metal box and soundtrack and stuff.

Some people are reporting One Finger Death Punch Steam keys showing up in the Groupees profile for Be Mine X. It might take an hour or so for them to populate for everyone.

So I'm going to be doing a 10 hour stream (3pm to 1am GMT) on Saturday March 15 to raise money for the Naomi House charity.

What games would you guys like to see us play / giveaway? I'm looking for ideas, nothing is off limits here.

The dev says they should have the keys to Groupees sometime today. It's in the announcement on the greenlight page.
Sweet! Thanks for the heads up!

Just checked my page and not there yet.
Yeah, me too. <twitch, twitch>

I ended up with three Steam copies of Diehard Dungeon (2 from Groupees and 1 from IndieRoyale) if anyone still needs a key.

It's on today's list of games for Playfire rewards.

Edited:  Key is GONE

After a long time focusing only on my 3DS I got back to the PC since I had bought the AMD key for Thief a while back. I have to say that I think reviews were too harsh with the game, as it's a very enjoyable one and a must for stealth fans. There was a lot of nitpicking with this game that I find irritating.

It plays very similar to Deus Ex Human Revolution (same studio) in terms of exploration: several different paths and hidden stuff to find. On Deus Ex and Dishonored I like to take my time and knock out everyone on a given level so that I have time to explore everything, but on both chapters of Thief I was unable to find all collectibles. Not only are they very well hidden but also it's very difficult to knock everyone out, which come to think of it is far more "realistic" than Deux Ex and Dishonored. I have not played using any combat whatsoever so I can't comment if that is done well (I mean, it's friggin' Thief, why would I want to fight anybody?).

The City itself is a very dark place and quite atmospheric. It's big and I can't really get the complaints about it's size; loading times are not frequent and on the PC are very quick. I mean, Deux Ex HR also had them and that game was very well received. Yes, there are doors you can't go in, but that is true of the original Thief, Deus Ex and Dishonored. Again, no reason to bitch about.

My complaints so far would be the lack of a jump button (you can only climb where the game tells you), the story (not having seen a lot of it actually, but it's nothing worth of note so far), repetitious voice overs from NPCs and a few annoying sound bugs (related to the aforementioned voice overs). I have not found anything to complain about the AI as of yet, and so far there has been no quick time events. Graphics and character models are not that great, but they do the job. Sound is GREAT (I've bee n playing it with headphones).

I would agree with the complaint about Garret not being a particularly memorable character (for me, he was the best thing about the original game, more than the story and lore themselves), mainly because the new voice actor just cannot achieve what the previous one did.

And, for purists, you can disable pretty much EVERYTHING and have a pure original Thief experience: no highlighted objects, no focus, no markers. They even give you more options: no damage, no kills, no saves, there's even an option for permadeath.

Steam says I have played about 14 hours, and that is for only playing the prologue, the first two chapters and the two "The City' segments between the chapters. This is where you find several side missions, and can search the city for loot and collectibles. So there's a lot of content here.

In short, I think that even considering the troubled development of the game Eidos really did try to give us everything they could to make this a great reboot and also give you options to enjoy this game as a more purist experience. I think they have mostly succeeded and have created a very enjoyable game that does not deserve the harsh words written about it.

I just beat Thief, and my main complaint besides one frustrating area at the end, would be that you couldn't change floors in the map. This game really is a must if you love stealth (which I do not like stealth games at all) and is worth playing either way.

Completed with 23 hours of play, most of the sidequests, and total stealth. No killing or getting spotted.

You don't like stealth at all but you completed it with no alerts?

Don't tell it to me... I don't take confession. :p

Honestly, I completely understand... I will likely preorder the PC version. That's not too CAGish.

And I have two copies of Dark Souls... Asian version and the American version. And, technically 3 copies of Dark Souls. (Two on 360 (both collector's editions, one a preorder mistake but I never got around to selling it) and a PC copy too.)

And, honestly, I haven't done shit to warrent owning any of them. The most I've played was the Asian copy of Dark Souls, which I played allot, and realized just how horrible the PS3 controller is on my hands if I have to hold a button done constantly or near constantly. (So once the pain got so bad that I had trouble sleeping and couldn't play video games for 3 or so days... I had to give it up.)

Demon Souls... Just never spent much time with it.

Anyhow, I'm rambling here... back to my point. You're a bad CAG but the fuck cares if it makes you happy. :D

Valkyrie Profile on the PS1 and Stadium Events for the NES as giveaways...

Edit: Oops double post. Straight to hell I go.

Okay, stupid question time...  Can someone log into paypal and try to send a gift to someone...?  I keep getting an error right after it calculates the fee... "paypal is having issues try again later" (or many more words said for that effect) but if I try to send a normal "business" payment...  The screen changes and makes no mention of paypal's issues.  So I wonder if I've annoyed them or not as it been going on all morning.

(You don't need complete the transaction, after you click family and next, the screen changes and that's what I'm trying to see if anyone can reach.)

Considering that most people in the US are at work during the times he runs his Twitchcasts I don't know the a game with animated crack and hooha flashes is really the best choice.
If you're watching Twitch at work, will the content really matter? ;)

Works for me and I actually paid someone just ~30min ago.

I had a hunch the game may be a bit over criticized. The developers were in a tight spot with the game...it wouldve been really difficult to live up to the hopes and expectations.

I guess Boob Wars is out of the question then.

They could have just come up with a new name and not tried to leech the rabid Thief fanbase. My suggestions included Not Thief, Kinda like Thief, and UnThief but the damn developers never took my advice.

I got, I got it… Burgler.

It could be comedic in nature, like the main character will talk to the player about the stupid shit the game does.

"So I can leap across rooftops, but I can't jump over a 3 foot high box?"

"HAHA! You guards will never find me in this slightly-darker-than-the-rest-of-the-room patch of shadows!"

"Hey player, can't we go save the world village something(!?) rather than filling my pockets with goblets??"

… I think I just want another Deadpool game.

Since we're doing Thief opinions, I think it did atmosphere really well and I thought the story was interesting too. Much of the hidden stuff was not super-obvious-hand-holdy-big-flashing-arrow-here so that I think was a plus.

The AI is pretty much 'LOL Really?'. Not sure what they were thinking there unless they were just really pressed for time. That's kind of a huge thing for a stealth game.

The frequent loading screens on a PC game are eyerolly but par for the course for something fire and foremost around consoles.

I still think it's lazy design though and there are ways around it. Witcher 2 had this system where when you entered a sort of interim transition area it would start to load the next area so the transitions were mostly transparent to the player. And of course you have huge ass sandbox games like Skyrim that can pull off one big area without load screens (towns aside of course). It by no means ruined the game but I definitely think in this day and age they could have done better in that regard.

I like Thief 2014 overall, particularly the atmosphere, but it's not perfect.

It's indeed not perfect; I think Dishonored is the best stealth game of recent times and does a better job overall than the new Thief, but this reboot is really good and not worth the thrashing it received.

I'm considering buying Need For Speed Undercover while it's cheap on sale. Anyone got any good words to throw to me to help me make up my mind about it?
It's not bad... it's just easy. (That could be a plus for some.) I tore through the game 1st-placing on my first try ~85% of the time.

Undercover is terribly optimised and buggy.
Lemmie guess, you're one of those AMD people? Ran just fine on my 2008/9 era Phenom II X3 720 BE and GTX260.

Grid 1 is a better game.

What about Hot Pursuit?
Excellent. Highly recommend. Best NFS post-Carbon. The driving is great and it has a weapon system and pigs on your ass.

No, it's long stretches of road between poke-and-plum towns. It works well for the supercar and weapons focus. The map is quite big and memorable.

I have it yeah. The city stuff wasn't exactly a requirement or anything. It does suck that Underground isn't on Steam. Neither is Carbon and I love Carbon.
Prostreet is the oldest available PCDD (from Origin). There are some nice texture mods and ENB that really make U2 & MW look great. (I've played U2 with them.)

Edit: Asheskitty, thoughts on the EA Shift (N4S) games? (Also do you remember is Tages DRM active on the Shift 2?)
Shift is an awkward sim-cade hybrid. Out of the box, the settings feel odd (cars are featherweight). The AI is very bash-you aggressive. Supposedly it's a decent/good game if you tweak enough settings. I moved on to other racers. I want to revisit it sometime. I can't really recommend it. I'm not sure on the DRM situation. Shift 2 is supposedly very similar to Shift 1.

I hated Hot Pursuit, I don't like the combat/weapons and it was leaning too far in the direction of sim than arcade for me. I would be trying to do races and doing what I felt was a pretty good job and still never come close to qualifying.
What's wrong with you? It's very arcade, though not simplified-arcade.

Some of the timed-runs are a real challenge.

One of WoW's technical feats in 2004 was the large seamless world... travel around a very large continent seamlessly. You only zoned when you were actually switching servers: instance-server (dungeons), or Kalimidor and the Eastern Kingdoms (the two continents) were on different servers (this was apparent when a server crashed taking out part of the world (or the world, if you were "safe" in a dungeon-instance).

And that makes my 950th game. Gonna play it, too. Just 50 more until I can really feel bad about myself :D
Damn you... I just combed my past Groupees bundles for unredeemed bonuses and greenlit additions. (I'm having a low opinion of the greenlight bundles after doing that.) i'm only up to 926. I'm trying to see 1000 as the point at which I should stop trying to grow my library count.

The stream is on a Saturday 3pm-1am GMT. Is the game really that bad in terms of nudity?
