During the campaign matches, the AI plays the same cards in the same order every time. The rationale is that you'll learn its strategy and come up with a plan to defeat it. Understandable, but you have a random hand each time so you can get thrown hands that are just plain unwinnable. I could get a hand with three nice cards but I know the AI will be nuking my lands on Turn Four before I can cast them so, despite normal appearances, my hand is garbage. So I just wind up restarting matches and cycling cards until I get a hand that can get a toehold. But that's not how the game is actually played and in any real match you'd both have a chance of getting mana-screwed or all enchantments in your hand or something. Or at least you're not basing your play around a predetermined sequence. It just doesn't feel like it's teaching you anything besides how to cheat the system by repeatedly taking mulligans via the Restart feature. Playing random matches against the Planewalkers is a better teacher on how the game is supposed to go.

Anyway, grumble grumble and all that. Still like the game, just don't like how they set up the campaign.

Thx for the info...as a better way to "learn the game" via a single-player campaign-type mode, would you recommend this or something older (all the way back to the orig (Shandilar 2012, now I guess))?

I think the random Planeswalker duels in 2014 work fine and from what I've read, 2014 is a well-made entry into the series (I guess 2013 sucked but never played it). Other people may have less trouble with the campaign or not be as annoyed if they haven't played the card game and so don't have the same expectations on what "should" happen. It could be that I get annoyed because I don't really need to be taught how to fight a mono-red destruction style deck so I more sharply recognize when I'm screwed from the first seven cards.

If someone just wants to play DotP or wants an idea on how the CCG is played, I'd still recommend 2014 and say to play the Planeswalker duels for what the "real" game is like or when the campaign gets too annoying and you need a break. Also, I'm playing on a higher difficulty so what I'm experiencing may be lessened at the novice setting.

Yup, some of the campaign battles are an absolute bitch... Just remember, you do not have to play the same deck all the way through.

He does say straight up that the people fighting through Net Neutrality are shooting themselves in the foot by calling it Net Neutrality... It is extremely boring highly technical jargon and most people will not get it or even stick around long enough to hear it.

*Edit: In all seriousness though, usage of the poorly named 'Net Neutrality' phrase aside, it has been widely reported (well insinuated but close enough) in the news that Comcast throttled Netflix in order to extort money out of them. I would think that would be enough to get people to take notice without having to have it all packaged up neatly in funny entertainment on Youtube but perhaps I expect too much of people.

It reminds me of how I'll tell my sister there's a game the kids might like but they never really take much interest. Then some British youtube talking head with a schtik talks about it and they are suddenly all about it like it's a new thing they just discovered.

Don't mind me, I'm just becoming old and crusty about the way the world works now.  :oldman:

At any rate, I am sincerely glad that someone is getting people to take notice about the whole 'Net Neutrality' thing no matter what it took to get there because it's really fucked up and if people sit and let it slide by like mindless zombies we'll all be worse off for it.

There's that, too. I was being rather stubborn about playing the deck I was playing. Knowing how the AI was going to play, I could have switched to a low mana cost, fast moving deck instead of staying with my White/Green enchantment deck with the friggin' 5-cost flying creatures to avoid those Earthquakes. Another artifact from playing the actual CCG and having a "Can't switch decks mid-tournament" mindset :)

Yeah, me too. I loved John Oliver's reign on the Daily Show last summer, and had been really missing him since, so his new show is right up my alley. For me it combines the best of both TDS and Colbert Report.

Tbh, I didn't really like his run. I think he's funny in general, but he just wasn't working for me as the host. Maybe this show'll suit him better.

Every time a page changes, it sends a message to the cattle prods taped to my nipples. It shocks me into unconsciousness. I'm just going to use this opportunity to plug Warframe again. I've put a lot of hours into the game & still find it to be a lot of fun. It beats every other ftp game I've ever tried hands down. I love the fact that it's soloable or up to 4 player coop. I pretty much just duo with my gf and have thusfar put over 550 hours into it (which I am amazed at - also amazed that my GF has put in nearly 700).

I've spent less than $10 on the game (mainly bought inventory slots for new warframes (basically classes) & weapons - everything else (including new warframes and weapons are boss drops or purchaseable for in game credits & craftable for free)). You only have 1 char, but can switch warframes and weapons at will. You can also mod the warframes and weapons completely.

Anyway, if you like third person shooters, loot (RNG Mods), space, ninjas, super powers, parkour a pretty amazing (newly added) melee system for a tps and a distinctive art style I heartily recommend it. (Neuro - I'm guessing you might like this based on your Mass Effect & Borderlands love - not that Warframe has anything like Borderland's humor).

They are still in open beta & are constantly adding new warframes, weapons, pets (sentinels) and tilesets (all missions are procedurally generated and never the same twice, making all missions infinitely replayable) - with many game types: defense, exterminate, assassination, spy, deception etc.

Additionally, they have mmo-like events in which the players actions actually affect the solar system (side with one faction or another with different results). This is in addition to near daily invasions, where one faction can take over a "mission node" (ship, section of a planet etc) of another. You can choose to fight for one or the other and receive a reward based on your participation. This is, of course, right before you attack them somewhere else.

Oh, and one of the factions that everyone is struggling against (the infested) are basically mutant space zombies (just for cheaplikeafox).

So.. yeah, I bought this pack almost exclusively for the boosters. lol

This booster pack isn't really a reason to play if you weren't interested in the first place.. but it gives you a better starting rifle so your initial experiences won't be quite as hard as ours was (the gun they give you to start sucks. a lot.) The experience & credit boosters will help a lot as well, since the start is pretty much when you'll want to level a warframe so you can max out it's individual powers faster & credits are tight at first (I don't even have to worry about them anymore).

I will say that the first few levels of the game are somewhat difficult & may be off-putting, but it gets much better if you put a little time in. (I have actually learned that after I started playing they give every new player a shield improvement mod that I spent over a week trying to get as a random drop, before almost giving up and then realizing I could buy it from another player for the equivalent of less than 25 cents - so maybe it's better now).

Also it appears that companies are out to cash in on not only old RTS games that I played many years ago (Age of Empires II) but also old RTS games that I've had backlogged for over 10 years (Rise of Nations) by releasing new versions and attempting to get me to double-dip. What's next, Empires of the Modern World HD? Celtic Kings: Rage of War Enhanced? Kohan Redux? Total Annihilation Dubstep Edition?

I've played over 40 hours of Age of Mythology HD just for the campaign. I'm pretty happy about the remake, personally. As long as they're doing updates to great games (like the Age series), I say bring it on.

I'd be pretty happy to see a Total Annihilation HD update too. Throw in Steam Workshop... yum.

Shaq Fu yeah, I'm so good at being cheap that I just got 3 $69.99 console games pre-ordered for $42.99 each due to Amazon.ca glitch. The cheap ass, it's in my blood.
