We don't, but if it's going to work, an MMO company probably has the best chance. I mean Blizzard gets away with it so I guess they figure why not?

I definitely understand why a Developer and Publisher of MMO games would want their own client, but they'll also be selling DRM-FREE non-MMO games as well. I just thought it was an interesting approach and from a distance looks something like a hybrid Steam/GOG client of sorts.

Edit to add: It's going to be a niche client if anything.

It's provably because they still can't figure out how to change their game to F2P on Steam while an indie like Reversion figured it out in minutes.

They just have it sitting there with no download even though they ate selling the DLC on Steam and claim technical difficulties.

I need to get back to it - E3 got in my way. But right after E3's done, back to Thief 2014.

If you liked Thief: Deadly Shadows - then you'll really like this. I'm around 18 hours or so into this. It's very similar to that Thief: Deadly Shadows, in terms of having an open-world to explore; some side-missions; and main missions. Gameplay-wise, you basically HAVE to play Stealthy. Garrett no longer has his sword - he's got basically just his blackjack + bow here. There's often numerous stealthy ways to play for taking a mission on or going about the game-world. And you get scored for each mission - for killing; not killing; getting seen; alarms gone off; and things of the nature. If you loved Thief: Deadly Shadows - Thief 2014 feels like a VERY proper sequel to that....and you really should play it!

If you hated Thief: Deadly Shadows - I don't think Thief 2014 will make you a fan of this series. Thief 2014 is even more modernized than T:DS was - with now "Takedowns" allowed (one hit knocks out if you hurt the enemy enough); Focus Mode (X-Ray Mode to see through walls - like Batman: Arkham games); cover system added; no jumping anywhere (jump is now just a contextual thing, when in the right spot - it does it for you).

One of the best things here is - besides the game's preset difficulty modes, there's also a Custom Difficulty Mode. More games should do this. So, if you are hardcore and want to disable things - go right ahead. Tons of options - to disable (one-button) takedowns; UI things; HUDS; focus mode; no killing allowed; etc etc. MORE games should do this kind of thing.


I basically got ultra-addicted to just going around game-world and going through people's homes to steal stuff. That's just a lot of fun here. The way the game makes you feel when doing so is great - it immerses you into feeling like a Thief completely w/ the way Garrett does things so subtlety: the way he takes things; looks at things; moves his hands around paintings to find hidden switches; etc. If there's something this game absolutely nail better than anybody else w/ the whole thief immersion aspect - this is it.

I have a few complaints incoming - minor stuff.

Also, there's something else - the game runs wildly on my PC (i7 950; 1 GB of GF GTX 560 Ti; 8 GB RAM; Win 7 64-bit). Sure, it's always above 30 frames per second on mostly NORMAL settings - and that's good. But, it's all over the place! It's normally anywhere from 40 frames to 60 frames - wildly anywhere b/t the two, causing slow-downs and stutters for a quick moment. Not good. So, I had to lock it down w/ EVGA Precision X to 40 frames just to keep it smooth as silk - and now it runs perfect. The game's atmosphere, look, technical quality, the lighting - yeah, it's gorgeous to look at.

Too many load-screens. Sure, it loads up quite quick on my PC - but dammit, there's just too many of these, when going from hub-to-hub.

The story and characters are nothing special. It lacks depth, namely.

The stuff that I really wish they did focus on in story and character, they don't focus on enough.

I'm gonna get into this a bit, so....SPOILER TAG incoming....

I have no problem w/ the typical "over-powerful person in power treating the city awful" thing that this game and many others have. But, there's something else that gets me.

For those who played, I think Erin getting kidnapped is the most disappointing things to happen to this game, story-wise and character-wise. Sure, she's a tutorial in the 1st mission - but there's a very intriguing dynamic b/t Erin and Garrett. Garrett's the mentor - but he's a mess and kind of lost some steps (he's getting older); so she's trying to teach him how SHE does things. And also, she has a VERY different mind-set - Garrett likes to NOT kill and he just steals stuff; while Erin does NOT mind killing people and she'll go to ANY length to steal what she wants. The dynamic b/t the two when they're on different wavelengths was great - I wish this continued on.

And so far - there you have it. I like the game a hell of lot, despite my few very minor complaints. So far, it's really freaking good.

I got banned from the forum for "spamming" I kept posting the link from the google cache

I did tell him that I wasn't going to sell his game which is what he's all scared people will do. I said I wanted to +1 my steam count, sell the cards for money...playing it was out of the question

it was that post that got me banned for spam

He's deleting any thread or post that references his IndieRoyale response. He's locked that Steam Key thread to prevent any one else from even bringing it up.

Totally unprofessional.

You know what we should do, though?

Use the "report this item" feature to flag this so Valve's moderation team can see that he's hiding threads asking about the keys. I don't know where else we could go about spreading this information.

I just tweeted the dev AND IndieRoyale about it. The IR guys are pretty active on Twitter so they should be able to slap some sense into those guys.

I think you can't post in the forums unless you have some games in your account, though. And please don't do that, it would only make things worse for us.
