Target Clearance Thread XXIV

That’s correct, it was Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes. Engage was there as well but did not ring up as marked down

Highly recommend using brickseek to generate scannable UPC barcodes, it makes checking for which of these is on sale a quick process at the kiosk. In my case Advance wars was behind the glass so that was the most convenient way to check its price first
This is a great tip. Zoom in on the barcode and scan it on the in-store price checker.

Target Clear out most Switch games for Switch 2 games.
Think it's a little early to be saying this is why considering even Nintendo states the Sw2 will be "released in 2025". Although leave it to Nintendo to be the last of the consoles to rely on physical media like when they held onto cartridges when everyone else went to Disc...then again, they are still holding onto to cartridges now 🙃

Yeah I think some of it seems to be more nationwide (like Advance Wars 1+2, Smiling Man, Assassin's Creed Mirage) while a lot of the first person Nintendo titles are probably what the store has too many of or such (I didn't see others posting Zelda Calamity, though my store had like 20 copies). I am glad some people got hauls for sure, but it is YMMV for a reason. The one truth is though that it seems physical media sections for stuff like movies, music, and video games aren't as big as they used to be and I do believe will continue to shrink.

Ashwaubenon, WI location had an end cap full of full priced games. Whee. (Yes, i scanned them, but also no clearance stickers on them, so).

Xbox inline section is gone. What they have is what's on that shelf.

EDIT: some of what's on the shelf, like Mirage and Three Hopes, have been reported as being on clearance. Not here!

Similar chaos here in southeast Michigan. Seemingly no rhyme or reason as to what gets clearanced out or when. The most baffling thing to me is the pictures of Animal Crossing, Smash Bros, and Wonder on clearance.

Yeah I have a hard time believing that any Target was clearancing those games out. Something seems fishy about it.

So according to a my friend who spoke to a tech lead California usually gets sales first. Also its no longer structured like old clearance and its these factors:

-Tech lead decides what goes and stays (In the case of one store they threw them all out)
-Usually the first party stuff being removed even if its Echoes of Wisdom didn't sell well or no longer fits the planogram
- OFC employees will hoard.

I've been to like 13(?) stores at this point and what I can say for my area in gatcha terms is

Pokemon S/V (any version), Zelda TItles, Metroid Prime (I WANT THIS SO BAD) =SSR
Pokemon Snap, Pearl, Fire Emblem, Arceus =Rare
Advanced Wars, Emio= Uncommon
3rd party = Common

My haul is roughly 8/10 what I was looking for at this point and if I don't find the rest of the Pokemon games or Metroid I'll be happy with what I found.

I was lucky. I found Animal Crossing on the endcap there was no sticker on it. I used Brickseek for the upc and it came up on clearance but when I went to purchase it, it's was MSRP. Turns out there's a REPACKAGE sticker on it. The lead cashier told my cashier to rip it off and I was able to get it for the clearance price

What is ironic?? is that record albums are now aquiring more shelf space...darn kids...we got rid of those for a reason:fridge:

My partner starting getting into records with the big boom after covid. The odd part is after a little while of playing a bunch, I found utilizing them as obnoxious. One side of an LP is only four songs typically, maybe 15 minutes. Then you flip it or move on to another record. I’d much rather just hit a button on my iPhone and stream the one of a billion songs as much as I want and in higher quality.

I’m all about physical in my media collection though that has come and gone for music unfortunately.

Just throwing this out there.... still looking for; Zelda: Echoes. I have everything posted to trade besides an extra XB3. Will post updated trading list in the trade threads soon.

Checked my local store yesterday. either they got wiped out or all switch games went to salvage. All of the clearance marked games were gone now. And none of the popupar PS5 games people were posting were clearanced.

Rechecked another store I hit ealier a couple days ago since I was in the area, and all the clearance games were gone. Must have went to salvage cause there was nothing. Found a nice Honeywell fireproof chest at 50% and a small locked cash box at 70% at least.

Ya one of my stores that had a bunch of 1st party stuff is now gone the guy told me there was no more games in the back room.
I had barcodes for Yoshi crafted worlds and Kriby return to dreamland scanning at that store for 17.99.

Yeah its pretty wild they dropped everything to 70% then salvaged two weeks later. I had no luck with 1st party switch stuff at the stores I hit.

On a lark, called Shelby Township (metro Detroit) location to see if they had Emio: The Smiling Nan. They did! 🙂 It has been marked salvage. 🙁

Checking inventory is only reliable when x number plus of an item is supposedly in stock at a given location as with every business. The times I've found something that the website says was out of stock in store and vice versa can't find something else that was supposed to be in stock.

I find that target's inventory is pretty reliable. The biggest issue is when crap gets hidden / moved around.

Popped into my closest Target. Hadn’t been there in ages and was surprised to see they still had a pretty full assortment of games for all three systems. Sadly nothing clearanced. Even tried a few of those spotted elsewhere via the price checker and everything still full price.

My "clearance store" I think has salvaged. I went last night to scan some barcodes and they came back with find someone for pricing. Was really hoping to find some of the bigger hits people mentioned (echoes of wisdom most of all).

I believe the switch games went to salvage a few days ago. They seem to all be pulled from my local store. I did a return/exchange yesterday for a circle deal and the rep had to type in prices manually for the games.

My local Target must not have participated in this round of clearance. Been checking multiple times. All games were still at regular price or had a small markdown (not 70% off), or on sale. Used the in store price checker and mobile app. Did however find Xenoblade Chronicles 3 that showed “please see employee for price”. This is meant to be salvaged, btw. They did let me buy it for $14.99.

Went to my local store about 2 weeks ago & they had 1 copy of AW1-2 that scanned at 41.99 & most of the other titles weren't marked down yet. I left it there and returned 2 days ago & AW was gone & a bunch of games had been marked down finally. Most were undesirable titles like Paw Patrol World & the like. I did find Emio for 14.99 & Demon Slayer Sweep the Board for 17.99 though. No dice on any Pokémon, Zelda, or Mario stuff though. I'm open to trade for AW 1-2 if anyone has a spare, DM me if you can help!

Man I didn't know people wanted ADV 1-2 so much I've been skipping ever since I got my copy. Idk how many stores have stuff left since I took a break for the week but I can keep my eye out.

I'm only missing Link's Awakening, XB3 and Metroid (I've given up on any form of scarlet and violet DLC or not)

I have an extra XB3 I'd trade for Alan Wake 2 PS5 if you have an extra or can get one. Let me know.

This is annual for them. You should see the board game section when they do a nationwide clearance.

Although I’ve said this here prior. And recently. It’s either the manufacturers, the retailers, or both working together and colluding. They’re purposely trying to get rid of the physical market to turn everything digital and control the people with subscriptions. Just look at the music industry. No more CDs. No more tapes. Vehicles don’t even have disc players anymore, neither do PCs. Want to listen to music in your car? Better be subscribing to pandora spotify or apple music.

Now look at the move industry. No more discs in stores. Amazon runs the Blu-ray and 4K market now. And we see $65 steelbooks because there’s no competition any longer. Oh but wait! You can subscribe to Disney. Or Hulu. Netflix. Peacock. And countless others.

The music industry already changed to streaming. Movies are just about there. Next is console gaming.

I mean, streaming is really convenient though. I've held onto my blu-rays for years, but realized recently I haven't actually watched a physical disc in probably 20 years. The only reason any of the discs are even open is because I wanted the digital codes. My Xbox doesn't have a disc drive, and I haven't missed it. The Game Pass combined with cheap digital games is just too convenient.

Physical won't completely die until console makers stop adding disc drives to their console, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were left out of the next generation of Xbox and Playstation systems. Nintendo will have carts in the Switch 2, but who knows about their next console?

There's the argument you don't own anything after a console dies and the digital store goes down, but at that point the systems are usually hacked and there's custom firmware out there and everyone is playing roms. Also, at least Microsoft has been good about letting us keep our digital purchases from one generation to the next. Sony has been okay at it for games that are compatible with their hardware. Nintendo has been the one making us rebuy the same games over and over again.

As a collector, the death of physical makes me sad, but as a gamer, my playing habits don't really align with my collecting habits.

I'm a physical media guy; I don't buy digital games and never will. The way I see it, there is plentiful content on disc/carts -- more than enough than I can enjoy in my lifetime. That said, I agree that physical media is not the future and that while blurays and carts will stick around for some time still, it's inevitable they'll all be fazed out eventually.

It's disappointing. I do think subscription services have devalued games (and movies), a big reason why the business model is broken, having publishers keep chasing free to play games (because fewer and fewer folks will pay $50-60 for a game at release), and why the industry keeps laying off folks left and right. It's all collapsing and don't get me started about Microsoft.

Said this before - no game company has done more to harm physical media than Microsoft. Microsoft has no issue driving everyone to PC because that only improves their bottomline. And of course, cloud gaming works to their advantage, too, because they conveniently dominate that space as well.

I feel like AI is also part of that reason for the lay offs.

I absolutely agree with you about subscription services devaluing games. Microsoft has devalued their entire catalog with game pass, and too often when a 3rd party game goes on sale people now just say "I'll wait for it to come to game pass or PS+". Not to mention that Sony remasters their games so often now which instantly makes the older versions worthless.

Went to my local Target to see if they actually started marking any games down, and it was a bust. Still regular price or on sale (not much of a discount). I did find 3 copies of Emio the Smiling Man hidden behind other games (one that you have to pull case in front to get games behind once unlocked), to be told by employee they can’t sell it, since it came up $0. Asked if I could buy at last discounted price…still no. She was all smiles. Say she’ll end up keeping them for herself.

Its too late probably. Markdown deadline is done. Most stores have even sent them all to liquidation.

Yeah, these drops are pretty much dead now. Either the games are still at full price or they've been pulled for salvage. I scanned a few barcode at the in store scanner and it says see associate for price, not a good sign when that comes up. The only way you might get lucky is if you get an associate that scans the game & if it has the clearance sticker they might sell it to you for that price. I once got a game this way when it rang up as 0. You just have to luck out with the right associate.

I saw ones with like repackage or as is stickers or something like that that were clearly just clearance after what seemed to be the salvage date, like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 but $41.99 so maybe if they classified it wrong you'll still get lucky

Decided to do a last hurrah for a few stores I missed because sketchy AF at the evening and so far everything has been salvaged (switch wise) or MIA

Did find a bunch of Epic Mickey PS5

One more store and I'm calling it quits.

Edit: Deal is dead here everything got changed to repacked or full price discontinued
