You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

From what I remember they do those 50$ extra towards console trade in periodically as well. But usually the trade values lower during the promo. Assuming that they weren't already low to begin with. or they require specific consoles to do the bonus. Plus all the items included to do the trade or it gets refused and such.

Generally it doesn't sound worth the effort.

Gamestop's slow march to oblivion continues. All the GS stores except one near me have closed shop. Pretty sure the lone one standing will too be gone in a little while. The huge drop in games traded in as the physical market shifts more and more to being a premium/collector market, the less and less trades work and forget about keeping enough inventory. May be Gamestop can recreate itself into a VGP or LRG but it's fast running out of time, and most customers (like me) moved on a long, long time ago.

I haven't stepped foot in a GS in years but peek into this topic now and then. Remember the good times when GS was filled with PS2 and PS3 games. Sad to think those times are gone and never coming back.

They should've done that years ago. Many have pointed that out, years ago. They could've been a national chain for specialty games, imports, and retro (properly), like the stores they bought and replaced, but they decided to go mass appeal and that's what excellerated their issues.

To be fair, they kind of tried the LRG publishing approach, before LRG existed, but it was such a small attempt I don't think most were aware of it at the time.

I think they missed the boat of becoming a VGP. VGP has all the connections to get reprints made, some it feels like it took some convincing (NIS), but they are known now for getting reprints. They also ship worldwide. So they have a larger market.

i think the market served by LRG is also not open for another player. Truly feels like that market is contracting. Depending on what happens with the new administration and the economy, it could go into a collapse. Job uncertainty does not lead toward buying any shovelware up for offer.

Additionally gs was shady about doing reprints and practically illegal activities in the past. given that they reprinted the games to sell as used so they could skirt msrp. and flooded the market till people stopped being dumb and actually noticed. I don't think many people would want to buy anything from them when they could get it anywhere else without the numerous hassles of shopping with them.

They'd have to secure exclusivity for whatever reprints to corner the market on those. And I doubt that'd be possible.

A lot of great points raised by everyone.

Yeah, I remember GS dipping their toes into self-publishing. It was a smart move but one GS then failed to commit to. Agree it's probably too late.

As for the future of LRG, agree that the market for collector/small physical game runs is probably also on the decline. The worst part for games is that the platform holders truly hold the gavel. It's not like movies and TV where there is a generic bluray/4k player. For games, who buys a PS6 disc if Sony doesn't allow for printing them or flatly doesn't provide a disc drive? You're out of luck and at the mercy of the platform holder. That's where it's all headed, unfortunately, which certainly spells doom for Gamestop.

May be once the patents end for PS2/Xbox/GCN and so forth, you'll see a small surge of third party console makers get into the space, and folks looking to play those games and indie devs printing new titles for those third party consoles. Doubt it'd be that huge a market, but I do think a lot of gamers today would welcome this.

Controllers also feel premium and don't require batteries compared to XSX/XB1/360.
I can still use my 360 controllers wirelessly. That's the benefit of not having difficult to replace built-in batteries. And when the batteries in my newer Xbox controller die mid-game, it's only 30 seconds to replace them then I'm back to action. Not having to be tethered to a charging cable feels pretty premium to me!

When my Stadia controller finally dies, I won't replace the battery because it's a royal pain where you have to disassemble the entire thing.

Who doesn't have two controllers for the ps5. One on stand by when the other controller is about to die.

Selective quoting isn't a good look on you.
And so is gaslighting.

OP made the implication that 360 controllers being wireless is an advantage over the PS5 controller when their main argument is utilizing replaceable batteries. Sounds deliberate when they also mention "[n]ot having to be tethered to a charging cable..." 🤷‍♂️

Probably wasn't clear enough, but I was comparing 360 controllers to PS3 controllers in today's world. All batteries die with age, doesn't matter how much they are used. What I was getting at was if you want to play on a PS3 with original controllers, you most likely will have to have them plugged into either a charger or the console to use them because the batteries are dead and unchargeable. Or go through the whole process of replacing the battery, which takes A LOT longer than 30 seconds. With the 360, I just need to drop in some fresh eneloops and I'm good to go.

In 20 years from now, PS5 controllers and even XB Elite controllers probably won't work wirelessly anymore due to dead batteries. If they're used as a wired controller though, they'll work.

My whole point was wireless batteries don't make a controller premium. There may be other things that make it premium, but it's not the type of battery a controller uses.

Making it sound like it’s a huge hassle to replace PS3 controller batteries - a few screws and a prying tool. It’s not that labor intensive. Heck getting to my fridge’s coils to clean up the dust is a lot more work. And that I do twice a year.

In case it helps anyone, with cash same as credit, you will get the 10% Pro bonus value when choosing cash. I think there were some questions regarding that.

They had an option to use Venmo, which was more convenient than getting the prepaid card. I traded in a bunch of amiibo figures and some random games I had collecting dust.

hey guys, can you suggest some ideas for what i can use my $5 monthly coupon on now? it seems like whenever gamestop gets pokemon boosters, there’s always someone waiting to buy them all

Question, if a GS store shows something as being "1" in stock, does that mean it's actually just 1 in stock? I feel like there was a period where stores only only show stock if the actual stock was above 1, meaning they actually have 2 (or more) units of whatever I'm looking for.

Wanting to buy a new game but not wanting a gut copy.

Should have 3 in-stock, unless inventory truly is off and they haven't had a count lately.

More store closures, they show 6 closed days, so I am not certain if already closed or closing soon

It could still be a gut. Those gut copies from closed stores went somewhere.

That Mt. Vernon IL closure is a gut punch for a large part of Southern Illinois. That moves the closest GameStop about 50-60 miles away.

It could still be a gut. Those gut copies from closed stores went somewhere.

Ah... got it. Sucks, my closest GSes closed and the now closest one is in a mall and I just simply hate mall (trashy area). Guess not worth the risk unless I NEED to use up my month PUR.

I HIGHLY recommend their NSW grips, very solid hard plastic build. Been playing Elder Scrolls Blades the entire week for hours without cramping up. From $10 to $5 post-coupon is a steal (stellar deal)!

yes. GameStop website is usually ‘fake news’. A store said “one 2 left” of a game recently. When I got there there the new manager said they had plenty of copies, over 10.

Damn!!! They shut down another gamestop that was closer to me ;-; Now it's just my main story, but I'm afraid they will do the same this year too.
