Where is the weekly ad?
They ended the weekly ad for more rotation of deals. Please check the homepage and deal link for the current deals.

I can't find a trade in value for an item?
It might not be tradable or calling a store to find the value may be the only option.

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

Are there trade limits?
Yes, $500 cash minus some electronic trade ins and or $2000 trade credit in a rolling 30 day period.

Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Do you guys think I should wait about trading in my switch lite or is now an ok time?
There's a chance that they do a trade in offer towards switch 2, but there's also a chance that the switch lite value continues to drop. Values for Switch consoles are historically pretty low at the moment, but I imagine they are getting an influx of switches and they will only continue to get more as the switch 2 launch approaches. So if you're comfortable with the value now and need the cash/credit then go for it. But if you don't need it now, personally I'd try offer up and if I didn't get any reasonable offers then I'd take it to gamestop.

Went into one of the remaining stores around me to pickup a preorder (And burn the little credit I had). Since it’s pro week the game auto got 10% off so the guy tried to slip in the warranty without saying anything. Told him to take it off and his excuse was the system ’automatically’ added it since it was a preorder. That was a new excuse.

He tried to get me to renew pro, but even at $9.99 I wasn’t biting. The sneaky warranty didn’t help.

My pro expires in May and I will let it lapse.

For $10, why not? You'd only need to use two coupons to break even, and then it's free money. You could even given it to a friend or relative since they'd only need the phone number you registered with the account. I wanted to do the deal myself yesterday, but the store didn't have Visions of Mana, the only new game I was interested in buying.

My remaining stores are not near places I normally shop at. Making a trip out specifically to use the $5 does not make any kinds of sense,

I saw some people stack the $10 off Pro when buying a new game with the $20 Pro pricing (and possibly the $5 Pro coupon) elsewhere.

Maybe I'll try that tomorrow if Super Mario RPG is still in stock.
Everything worked except they couldn't add onto my existing Pro membership because it wasn't close enough to expiration. Oh well. I don't expect there to be much utility for a GS Pro membership next year anyway.

took advantage of sale and got 2x vision of mana ps5 and mario rpg switch, through online orders. Both visions of mana were CIB, and mario rpg was cartridge only..

5 years seems like a long time to read a thread without benefiting from it. 🤔
How often are there any deals discussed in here? The latest is cash same as credit...how is that a deal?

Other than some convoluted flipping or people complaining about GS practices...even though said people still go to GS... I am here for entertainment purpsoses only seeing as I stopped trading into GS late PS4 era and have held onto my games.

The times I have gone into GS either item is not in stock, can buy new (but opened), can get off Amazon cheaper. Even when they have deals not going to pay 7.99 shipping and not know the condition of the game...

but again, none of this is new to anyone reading this....and somehow GS survives....it's like Goldblum said "Life, uh, finds a way"

How does trade copy limit work out of curiosity?

Maximum 4 per “rolling 30 days”

.. So if I did 2 copies Jan 1, and 2 copies Jan 14 does it reset Feb 1 or Feb14?

I wish I had bought 2 copies of 3D All Stars and kept one sealed. Didn't expect the value to go up so much because there's at least 10 million copies of it out there. I will probably keep my copy unless the value goes up to something ridiculous like $500.

Not defending GS, cuz they do suck, but in regards to the stuff you're complaining about it's all relative.

Not like they have any fewer deals on games than other places; probably about on par.

And "convoluted flipping", you can be pedantic and say any one facet of the flipping process is convoluted or whatever, but the actual act of trading stuff into GS isn't really that complicated.

People wouldn't be posting here, just to complain, if there weren't any deals or trades were for all intents and purposes dead. You want proof of that, go find the old best buy trade threads and see if people are still posting there.

This times 100. Seeing people complain and continue to shop with GS over the years has been funny to watch. Got to enjoy it before this thread turns into a political thread like others.

And when I say Convoluted flipping, I mean the ones where "they" buy these games from (insert store) just to flip for a few dollars, but wait I got 30% pro, plus put some of it down towards a pre-order for a 20% bonus, plus used my $5 coupon, plus bought online for pickup and saved $25 and got a pet monkey.

It is rare that someone posts, hey found PoP-Lost Crown for 19.99 at GS (and yes it is that same price at Amazon, just giving an example)

Ha! I feel ya. I just get deals from Wario64 or SD these days. The few deals posted here get buried.

No really that rare.

Alone in the Dark, Super Mario RPG, and Dragon Age were posted here last week, for relatively cheap.

Before that there was a B2G1 online.

Pretty much nowhere really has "sales" anymore, so not real sure what exactly you're expecting when lack of deals is more so the norm than the exception, no matter the retailer.

Occasionally I bought broken items in 2024 where the trade was higher even with the refurb fee. I simply buy from eBay on my phone, keep a small collection of damaged accessories, am honest about the working / non-working status. And can easily pick up a game or two a month, occasionally a console if I save up. My goal is 33% more trade value than I paid after the refurb fee. Minimal effort for what I feel is a decent return on credit. GameStop has its benefits for me personally.

Those Amazon sales are just matching other retailers including GS. What do you think would happen if the GS sales dried up? That's why I was boggled at someone passing on $10 Pro renewal. Amazon would just be MSRP if they didn't match other retailers, or you could pay whatever third-party sellers charge. Other retailers have already started to phase out physical media, so once Walmart or Target does too, I hope everyone likes digital games, because that's all there'll be unless you don't mind paying the premium for limited print games.

This is why I have been stocking up on PS4/PS5 discs. If consoles go digital, I'm tapping out.

I built a mega PC rig not long ago, 4090 founders, 5950x, 64GB of ram... I've played two games on it. I have a huge collection of PC DVD games, and found out none work on modern PCs. I won't buy digital/steam so my old converted PC DVD to digital library just sits at this point.

I used to think I'd never buy digital but it doesn't bother me on PC or PS5 now. I'm still 100% physical on Switch, but PS5 games lose their value so quick that I'll buy digital if the price is right. Especially with older games. Like I was wanting to play the Shadow of the Colossus remake a couple months ago. It went on sale for $10 digitally while a preowned physical copy is at least $20+ anywhere you look. If I had bought it physical it would have felt like setting an extra $10 on fire. But if I'm buying a brand new game and it's the same price physical/digital I'll always buy physical.

Oh boy...if the PS5 games lose value so quickly (and yea, they do) as soon as you're talking about older games, in your example Shadow of the Colossus they have likely hit their floor price. In this scenario spending $20 for physical makes more sense than $10 digital because that $20 game will likely remain $20 or increase with time. You mentioned setting $10 on fire, that's what you intended to prevent but it's what you did in the end 😁

What's crazy for me is I have a Steam Deck, obviously all digital. I bought the deck to have access to my library of Steam games (had not had a gaming computer for years and years and still no computer at home and yes a lot of those games did/do not work on the deck, but hey I have access).

Yet when it comes to the PS5 i must have physical. I claim the PS+ games each month, but can't recall the last time I fired one of those up. I tend to forget about them. High on Life might get played. Actually DL'd it :ROFLMAO:

That is such an overkill PC lol.

yeah it is… I switched to Mac a decade ago and recently got the urge to get back into PC gaming, so I went all in and just built the best for its time. This was when the AM4 platform was dominant and the 7 or 9 series AM5 CPUs weren’t out yet.

Going back in time, with the current prices of the 4090 founders on the secondary market, I should have bought spares! I had a couple of opportunities to do so though I’m very much against flipping and reselling so I never bothered.

I do have a large steam library from years ago, and did re-buy some of my older classic titles for under $5 each since my DVD-ROMs no longer work (I loathe double dipping!). As it stands, the only two PC games I’ve played since I built the rig are battlefield V and command and conquer remastered anthology.

I have no problem buying digital if it's the only way to get a game, when it goes on sale, but if there's a physical version I'll always choose physical unless it's a ridiculously cheap price and I really want the game.

The price thing goes both ways. Sometimes digital can be cheaper, sometimes physical. It depends on the game.

Ironically, I've accumulated so many digital PC games just from freebies either outright (GOG, Epic, Steam) or part of another subscription (Prime), that I'm looking at a handheld PC only because I'm more likely to play them there than turning on my PC and sitting at my desk.

Anything digital over $5 bothers me

HOL has a physical release now

I NEED 3440x1440p120fps

There's no reason to believe the value will go up much. Sony's first party games dating back to PS1/2 aren't worth much either. Their digital re-releases of older games are the best way to play them now anyway due to added trophy support and QoL improvements.

Also, it's literally a crapshoot on whether or not a game becomes valuable someday. You could have 400 PS2 games sitting on a shelf and 390 of them may not even be worth the disc they are printed on at this point.

Outside of Nintendo exclusives, low print limited editions and obscure Japanese games most games will never be worth much.

The only time I’ll ever buy digital if physical is an option is if it’s with “fake money” (like MS rewards, banked up credit from the $5 coupon working on digital currency). If I have to spend actual money on digital games, only when theres no other option or it’s insanely cheap.

Buying games really based on their future value is just silliness. So much of this mass produced stuff is garbage. Buy based on what you want to play. If you're looking for actual investments, look at an IRA.

I'll never understand the bonkers "value" some folks believe is in this space. Much of it is manufactured, and the corporate suits are exploiting it for all the FOMO they can.

I have a large physical library (nearly 900 titles), but also have a much larger digital library, thanks to nearly two decades of deal hunting.

Steam is readily more secure in longevity than any console digital storefront to date. GOG is obviously the best choice, since you can fully back up an offline executable for future install and usage.

I say be economically minded and never spend more on a game, whether physical or digital, that you would miss or otherwise be sad if it was lit on fire. More so with newer games that get reprints from shops like VGP or have affordable imports.

The latter stuff, unique imports, limited print titles, etc. will be interesting to see how their pricing matures given GameStop may not even carry some of that currently, leaving it to private sales on the aftermarket entirely.

Then again, when the apocalypse comes, most of us will be either dead or too busy scavenging for a new water chip for our vaults to play video games.

As a veteran here on the forum, and a lifelong gamer, I have a massive collection and “backlog”.

When I was a kid (teens) 20 years ago, I had the wherewithal to collect. if I love a game I’d buy a play copy and sealed extra copy. Same with toys, the original Star Wars episode 1 figures. Play figures and sealed figures.

Today my collection has sealed PS, PS2, PS3 games, GameCube, xbox original, Xbox 360, and countless of all the other consoles open. My rule I made over the years is I only open a game when I’m ready to play it. Where I get burned though is on DLC as often the code insert could expire by the time I open it. The only ‘screw up’ in my eyes is opened my vita collection and pre installed all my games years ago so none of those are sealed now.

it isn’t intentional to ‘hoard’ games, I just buy a lot especially with deals, and with finite time nowadays I never get to my backlog. Case in point: I now own 117 PS5 games, 8 of which are opened and played.

stop, my PTSD is kicking in. I can't imagine what I looked like trying to dampen that sound while my parents were sleeping and I was sneaking online in the middle of the night. How do you stop a sound that you don't know where in the hell it's coming from?
I just remember everyone yelling everytime someone used the phone and it disconnected. Or something like that.

Or occasional bubble in pricing. P3p going for 400 and fire emblem por hitting 800. Xenoblade 1 and metroid prime being around 3x msrp. I nearly considered parting with my copies. but both p3p and fire emblem are in my top 10 favorite games and I just recently replayed them during the time frame where they were going for that. I did however jump on smt4a going for 145 was that was too ridiculous to not pass up.
