Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

it’s getting to the point that the people that are buying physical are collecting and are not going to trade the games back in. They are keeping them.

And GameStop gives a pittance for what gets traded in. You can get away with that when you are the only game in town. Not so much when anybody can go on eBay, OfferUp, Facebook marketplace, etc and easily get more.

And let’s not forget people just wanting to avoid the GameStop ‘experience.’ Nobody wants to get harassed to buy Pro, get a warranty, or put down money for a preorder every time they go in. Heck, I bet it takes only one sneaky slipped in warranty and many people say ‘fuck it I’m never going in there again.’

Yeah they really do try to sneak those warranties in. Last year when I was trying to buy a game I told the clerk that I only wanted to apply my $5 monthly coupon. Somehow he redeemed 4k of my points and tried tacking on a warranty while applying (I think) a $3 and $1 off coupon on top of it to make it look cheaper.

When I asked him what he was doing he said "it's a courtesy from me to you, do you want to buy it or not". I just asked him to show me exactly what he did and he got angry, cancelled the transaction and refused to say anything else to me and went to the next customer. I've only had 2 "bad" experiences like that at Gamestop in over 20 years of shopping there, but yeah I can see how that would turn a lot of customers away.

It may be more region/district dependent, but there is a big push to auto-add warranty to any transaction where possible. And if customer doesn't want it, they would rather lose the entire sale. There was a post on the GameStop subreddit not too long ago with a document outlining how to try to convince the customer to accept it. Since they have the ability to redeem the points on your account at POS, it's going to be more common practice. Basically, watch that checkout screen in store very carefully.

Keep getting “We were unable to complete your order due to a system decline" when trying to place an order online, so I'm over it.

I don't understand why anybody interacts with GameStop at all. In the past 15 years or so, each time I've tried, I've gotten pissed off somehow, so I haven't bought anything from GameStop for probably the past 5 years.

My GS actually has everything in stock, but for once I'll be responsible and not buy them, not super interested in them anyways

Visions looks exactly like Tales of Arise to me. I begrudgingly finished Tales on PS5. Got super burned out halfway through as everything was the same over and over. Couldn‘t stomach even bothering to get the DLC for it. I’m hoping Visions of Mana isn’t the same type of gameplay or rhythm.

I actually gave it a whirl last night through the PS premium trial (it's a pretty generous 5 hour trial) just to be sure I wasn't interested. And yea... I'm fine safely skipping it. The impressions had already scared me off from getting it Day 1 to begin with, but now playing it for myself I see they were very much accurate.

I bounced off of Tales of Arise hard as well and even that was far more engaging and flashy in comparison.

Unethical business malpractice is grounds for a lawsuit. Hold onto those receipts with evidence of unauthorized add-ons. Complain to the BBB and to GS customer service. The latter might offer some compensation coupons.

always fun to check in what is going on on the 'Bozo the Clown' show.

LOL at the BBB suggestion. They are not BBB accredited which means they don’t take part in that.
Accredited or not, their liaison(s) conduct investigations and issue resolutions to problems. Tho unresolved, the most recent complaint was made on 1/09/25, the response on 1/17/25; however, the second to most recent did have success in getting their money back for goods and services unrendered.

Got Mana, Mario RPG, and Dragon Age today. Didn’t need them, but good prices. I feel like they will hold their trade values if I play them and dislike them at that price. Wish I could rent them from blockbuster instead.

If anybody needs one, I found a joy con comfort grip for five dollars marked down from ten. Good use of my $5 coupon, since my sister's family just got a Switch and could use one.

Ugh, seeing Visions of Mana for $25 is a real kick in the sack after preordering it and paying full price (minus $5 pro cert) just to get the steelbook.

Granted it was all trade credit, but mine is still sealed...

It's not as good as Berseria was
especially the low stats and dps
combined with hp sand bag enemies and
colossal jumps for enemy levels at part 3.
I ran into Gnome and it was around Iv70-
80 while I was Iv 23-28. still beat it but it
took forever due to its gimmick of killing
everything to get the bosses shield to go down so you can actually fight it. It's a unique idea but very tedious. And some of the enemies you can't even target so they get to free damage you and there's nothing to do about it.

Their continued forced gimmick mc
stuff is getting tired. Lobstermode in Xillia
2, fusion mode in zesty, arm mode in
Berseria and now flame sword mode in
arise-ia.

Never tried Berseria but I've heard good things

I dunno, the only Tales I was ever truly interested in aside from Arise was Symphonia because I played it as a kid and the co-op elements seemed so mind-blowing at the time 🤣, I still need to beat that one...

I loved Beraeria. Definitely one of my favorite PS4 games and one of the best Tales games.

Oh Berseria was definitely a step in the right direction after the mess of zesty. Only negatives were dangerous encounters being super frequent unless you played on certain difficulties to disable them. As I was averaging 2 a battle after a while and just had to turn them off.

The other being the equipment drops. The drops are 1 piece per monster usually for specific characters much like zesty. It already is hard when floors and spawns are rng in the secret dungeon. But you have to kill an enemy typically with a Mystic arte from the character that the monster is dropping equipment for I think. And occasionally party members are kill stealing witches.

But if you aren't going for item completion it probably doesn't matter much.

Jfc though that final dungeon was huge. I think that's one of the few cases where I took a break because of the length.

But yeah Eizen alone made Berseria for me. I can't remember the last time a characters playstyle synced up with me so well.

Them bringing back Vesperia’s burst artes system and giving unique applications to them was nice. Only was it would have been improved is if they had legendias unique compound artes too like senels throws and Jay's ninja kicks that do extra damage against specific enemy types like gods for fallen idol, dragons and such for wyrm wrath or whatever. It did have Chloe valens counters on rockos burst artes. But I was never able to get the timing down for those and the window of effect might be too short for me.

If you ever do get around to symphonia you'll want to play the original Gamecube version. All the Sony ports are worse running at half the framerate. Plus it lost shortcuts saving your moves from different skill trees.

Nice sale. Hadn't set foot in GS most of the month. But I brought MVC fighting collection for $30 and Mario RPG for $25 and used my $5 coupon before it expired. Also found a copy of FF7 Remake Intergrade PS5 (nice to see that it finally got restocked); no problems paying $70 for it to add to the collection, but with the pro sale it got knocked down to $63+ tax (y)

That game is around $45 usd on VGP and pnp games sooo

I need to play Berseria and Vesperia, but Arise really looked so appealing... and then I played it. Then I read the summary of the story beats, hoping that was at least a saving grace over the meat sponge combat. And the leading lady fell into some pretty bad tropes, among other issues.

So I sold it. Quite sad, as visually, it was up my alley.

I beat tales of arise back when it came out and my god that game just wouldn't end. It felt like you were approaching then probably 3 different times just to have it keep going. Over stayed its welcome by easily 10 hours in my opinion.

I saw some people stack the $10 off Pro when buying a new game with the $20 Pro pricing (and possibly the $5 Pro coupon) elsewhere.

Maybe I'll try that tomorrow if Super Mario RPG is still in stock.

I got a steelbook with my copy of Visions of Mana last night. The guy said nobody preordered it so they still had a drawer full of them. Also got 10% off.

It was a gutted copy but it’s not a big deal for this game. It’s been a long time since I got one but it’s not a big deal at this price.
