Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Went to my Blockbuster...couldn't find anything I wanted. Did see SMG for $25, and MGS4 for $30, but I already have both.

If anyone can please find me a PS3 Devil May Cry CE, I'll pay 'em $25 via Amazon gift Card.

Just picked up some games:

Saints Row 2 (360) $34.99
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift (PS3) $29.99
Mario Strikers: Charged (Wii) $14.99

Thanks for all the info!

Went to two BBVs and picked up Blastworks ($9.99) and Warioland Shake It ($19.99.) Also saw other stuff I wanted, but didn't buy, such as Mario Party 8 for $24.99 and Bully (Wii) for $19.99. There was no sign of a used price drop or deal yet.

Got NCAA Football 09 (PS3) for $19.99 today, just wanted a sports game for my PS3 lol. This sale is awesome!

Picked up NCAA football 09 PS3 for 20 bucks....

Well, if it does end this weekend, there may go the USED prices dropping theory :(
Well, if it does end this weekend, there may go the USED prices dropping theory :(
Im not so sure about this seeing out of the 6 stores I went to only 2 knew about it and had something setup advertising this, the other ones were brain dead to it and sticker prices were not current.. Either way it was good even if it was only this weekend.
Well, if it does end this weekend, there may go the USED prices dropping theory :(
Funny, I was also told this is a weekend only sale. This was at the only BB that had all the new prices properly stickered and clearance sale signs up. At the other BBs, the employees had no clue and were surprised when they rung out the prices.

I went to three stores. Wasn't sure about Uncharted. I may go back and try to pick that one up.

But I picked up:
Rock Band (Game Only) - 360 = $9.99
Devil May Cry 4 (Regular) - PS3 = $14.99
Wall-E - PS3 - $14.99
Lego Batman - 360 = $19.99

If anyone sees a Folklore in the LA area, please let me know. :) Or if anyone else wants to pick up an extra copy, I'm happy to pay for it, or trade for another title that I may be able to locate.

Hah we said the exact same point!

It seems very unlikely that it is ending at all as it is simply a continuation of the clearance prices they had before this week - they just bumped everything down a notch (or two in some cases). It could be that the marketing for the sale ends next week but the prices will continue.
I went to 8 different BBV in Orange County, CA (Santa Ana, Fountain Valley, Irvine, Huntington Beach). Most of them didn't really have much, but a few had a decent collection. Was mainly looking for 360 games so I picked up DMC4 CE ($15), Blue Dragon ($10), MLB 2K8 ($10), and Assassin's Creed ($15). Most of the other games I saw on clearance have already been posted here.
Have u been to the one on adams and magnolia, i remembered there was a copy of it there yesterday.

I went to two different stores in Silverdale and Bremerton. I picked up Prince Caspian for Xbox 360 for $9.99. De Blob for the Wii for $19.99, Professor Layton for $9.99, Spore: Creatures for $9.99, WallE for Xbox 360 for $14.99, Sonic and the Brotherhood for $9.99. I was tempted to buy Bioshock for $19.99 for PS3 just for the challenge rooms but I own the 360 version. Must stop spending.... credit limit reached....wallet empty.....

I was able to confirm that this drop started last Monday, 4/6. It would be best if you just ask the cashier for the list of games that they have and then choose what you want. this way you will also see their prices. I asked the cashier if she can give me a copy of that print out to no avail. Thanks for this deal guys, I spent almost $200 already.

hmm. those prices on the first page. are they the trade in values for games? or the cost to buy the game. also, new or used?

havent been to my local blockbuster IN YEARS

Checked out my local Blockbuster hoping for Bioshock, but no such luck. The best they had for PS3 was a single copy of Ratchet and Clank.

Sucks living in a small town =/

Anybody in the Rancho Cucamonga/Upland area, there's still a few good games at the BBV on Carnelian and 19th. 1 copy of Super Smash Brawl, maybe 2 copies of Bioshock PS3, a number of copies of Wario Land, de Blob, and a bunch more.

I found my Assassin's Creed there. Now I'm complete... err.. I mean my BBV shopping list.

if i recall right, the recent pricing are on page 23 or so. the new prices are cheaper than those on the first page and yes they are new games.

Kind of funny that besides a photocopied 8x10 flier taped to the front door, Blockbuster really didn't promo this clearance sale, but it's far better than Gamestop's ballyhooed Gamedays, IMO. (And I'm writing that as a fan of GS's sale)

Of course, finding stuff in stuck at BBV is the big pain. I've been to five Blockbusters and didn't see Grid or Assassin's Creed, and I bought the only Uncharted. By next weekend, all the choice titles likely will be gone (if they aren't this weekend).

A small bonus has been several coupons on my reciepts for $1.99 movie rentals (including new releases).

If the clearance sale moves onto used games, I might spend actual money at BBV for the first time in years.

I went to another BB today. All prices are for sealed games:

Saints Row 2 (PS3) - $24.99
Battlefield: Bad Company (PS3) - $14.99
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift - $29.99
GT5: Prologue - $19.99

I picked up:

BioShock (PS3) - $19.99
Ratchet & Clank: ToD - $19.99

Would love, love, love to find GRID and Uncharted at those prices. I haven't paid much attention to this thread because I don't really rent movies, but I opened up an account at Blockbuster about a week ago so I'll have to check this out one of these days.
Used price drops are not CONFIRMED yet. Just buy the new (DONT OPEN THEM JUST YET), and if the used prices drop, then return the new and buy the used. 30 day return policy on unopened merchandise.
All of the receipts (from multiple BBV) I have state there is a $1.25 restocking fee and "Franchise restocking fees may vary."

"Sale may be reversed by returning the product within 30 days of the sale date and paying a $1.25 restocking fee."

If I return a $14.99 game because it drops to $9.99. I do save money, but I have to pay an extra 12.5%.

Anyone have any luck returning without the restocking fee?

"One of these days"? I suggest going on Sunday because a lot of these games will most likely be gone.

DS

Pokemon Trozei - $5
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow - $10
Lunar Dragon Song - $5
Metroid Prime Pinball (w/rumble pack) - $10

Spider-Man Friend or Foe Wii - $10

Buzz The Holly Wood Quiz w/4 controllers PS2 - $15

True Swing Golf DS is $5, not $10 as reported in the OP. I don't remember if it was in the last GR clearance or not...seems like it was and it got restocked locally at $20 again. I do remember it being $3.50 at K-Mart.

You picked up Wall-E & Lego Batman, but skipped Uncharted???
All of the receipts (from multiple BBV) I have state there is a $1.25 restocking fee and "Franchise restocking fees may vary."

"Sale may be reversed by returning the product within 30 days of the sale date and paying a $1.25 restocking fee."

If I return a $14.99 game because it drops to $9.99. I do save money, but I have to pay an extra 12.5%.

Anyone have any luck returning without the restocking fee?
That's in reference to late rental product (it gets converted to a sale and charged accordingly). I asked about the return policy today for new product that's still sealed: their policy is basically the same as any other chain.

I think you are mistaken, that is for rental product. If you dont return your rental in time they "sell" it to you, and you can get your money back by returning it minus a "fee". That is their new policy since they couldnt do late fees any longer.
Hate to break it to you guys but.... "I winnnn!"
-MGS4 9.99
-Wii Music 9.99
-Saints 2 9.99

all used :)
Are used prices YMMV at Blockbuster? Seems like people are finding deals on used prices that are all over the place.

well. for the people who are concerned if they open tommorrow, i did some research on my own, and they should definately be open tommorrow for their normal sunday hours.

Ill probably head down

Thanks for the correction!

I had bought Assassin's Creed for $12.99 earlier this week when it was noted to be on sale, then it dropped to $9.99 for this clearance. I ended up buying another, hoping to return, but then noticed the message on the bottom of the receipt. Thought I might 'bay it, though I preferred not to.

Looks like I'll get to return it after all ...
Anyone else have confirmation that this ends this weekend?
Can't confirm, but based on all the work I saw employees putting into this sale/relabeling at the 5 BBV that I stopped by, I can't image they would "undo" all the stickering on Monday.

Well, I hit 5 BBV's on Friday and went back to 2 of them again on Saturday. Here is my haul so far:

:ps3: Army of Two $14.99
:ps3: Mercenaries 2 $14.99
:ps3: Assassin’s Creed $9.99
:ps3: Devil May Cry 4 $14.99
:ps3: Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 $19.99
:ps3: Metal Gear Solid 4 $29.99

:wii: Boom Blox $19.99
:wii: Wario Land Shake It! $19.99
:wii: de Blob $19.99
:wii: House of the Dead 2&3 $14.99

Still looking for Uncharted and Folklore though.
