Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

These were all new? no way..... I still want Folklore and Lair. Looks like I'm a little too late to join this party to reep the goods.

So anyone know if that 360 Katmari game was also discounted? I know I've seen new copies on display at the stores I haven't been able to get to since the sale...

Being late to the party doesnt matter if you are the only one there. The only way to reap any treasure is actually start looking for it.

Folklore is hard to find in most areas. I still see Lair out there, so that is definitely a possibility if you look or make some calls.

I scored Guitar Hero 3 Bundle with wireless Guitar (PS3) $29.99, Assassin's Creed. Also, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Bundle with wireless Guitar (PS3) $29.99, Agent Clank (PSP) $15, Fallout 3 Limited Edition Tin Box (360) $40, Soul Calibur 4 Limited Edition (360) $30. Lucky i stop by Sears pickup Elder Scrolls 4: GOTY Edition (PS3) mis-mark down $10 and Heavenly Sword (PS3) $20. :)

Had a used, complete copy of The World Ends With You price checked today...still $20 used, $15 new. Hope it drops soon.

Went back to a Blockbuster I'd already been two...they sold a lot...but they forgot to label the clearance PSP games and some of the cheaper PS3/Wii stuff. Since they had the old price tags on them, I got around five $5 games...all have been reported here though.

This store had about 30-40 new PS2 games, lots of old, old stuff, so I may go back once I get a better idea of what PS2 games are dirt cheap. Didn't feel like having them scan everything.

I saw it...I think it was tagged $15 new...not sure if that's cheaper than it was before or not. I know it's $10 used. I remember people buying them for $5 each during the Buy 1 Get 1 sale.

I don't know how you guys get to trade in multiple copies.
Wow I had forgotten they were still doing that, the Blockbuster clearance is really kicking gamestops ass with the deals.
Except GS is getting all the sales and BBV is getting close to none. BBV should be advertising this better, even if it's just a flyer on the door, emails, or having employees tell people.
Great game, lots of play.
I would be very surprised to see it sub $20 in 6 months but if may go GHits for $19.99 which puts it at $17.99 at GS...
I'd be surprised to see any 1st party PS3 GH game sell for $19.99. They are all at $29.99 this gen.

I was actually an Assistant Manager. For Blockbuster 10 years ago or so. When they brought up my account number, it came up as an employee account. No discount though. As far as trading mutliples anywhere, that's YMMV everytime. You can only ask.

If you have multiple stores, then you can trade multiple copies... dont push more than 1 copy per store or you are asking for a big fat ban hammer to fall on your head.

I've traded in both a PS3 and a 360 copy of Rock Revolution at the same time. Clerk didn't even care. I made myself look more suspicious lying that the other copy was my brother's. There's nothing illegal about it, but you know, why make excuses.

Another option is to trade copies at different locations. It's a hassle to have to go through pulling up your account and setting up at a different store, but at least you get to trade more in.
If you have multiple stores, then you can trade multiple copies... dont push more than 1 copy per store or you are asking for a big fat ban hammer to fall on your head.
Wait why will you get banned for trading in more than one copy?

I know FoS got banned, but wasn't that because he was buying from BBV and then trading the games back to BBV?

Blockbuster are quite anal about potential stolen merchandise. Even if you give some decent excuse as to why you have multiple (for multiplayer games I tend to tell them I'm trading my and my friend's copies because we grew tired of the MP) there's a good chance they will suspect theft.

Their trade agreement (when I signed up at least) says you can trade up to 2 copies of a single game per day (not sure if that's per store or what) but more than one copy per store per day is going to make you a suspect of theft, especially if you try to trade MORE than two, as you are technically in violation of the trade agreement, and they can terminate it easily.
Yep, nothing in PA either. They do have tons in Ohio... who lives in ohio?!?
Well, Shipwreck for one ;). I haven't listened to CAG Foreplay recently but I'll be sure to catch the next one as he's sure to tell us about all those BBV games he got. See, that's the advantage of having GR stores around you. You can be just mildly aware of this thread and make out like a bandit when they have sales. I have to work hard for every game I find (during this and the last B1G1 on used games too).
Hey IO,
that's funny that you mentioned the "lease" problem. One of my BB and a GR by my parents place, 30 miles away, both said they had leasing problems. I guess they are trying to restructure to save money.
Wlel, mine shut down 2 years ago because of it. It has nothing to do with BBVs financial problems in general - they just had a store that was too big for the amount of sales they got. But man, it was a nice strore. It's too bad I never got any pictures of the interior. It was easily 2-3 times bigger than my local BBV.
Found Endless Ocean and Excite Truck for $14.99 each today.
See, now on the one hand you tell me there's no advantage to having GR stores around and then you post this. These are two games regular BBV stores NEVER carried! By the way, I used to live in the KC area (only for 7 months around 1999-2000) so I'm aware they are pretty much clustered around KC. Still, that makes it pretty nice if you live there. And it still doesn't explain Oklahoma ;).

Hell yea! Thats what makes this forum so great. All the asshole money hoarders buy everything before people who really want the game get the chance!

Okay I see. Maybe I should read that trade agreement :wall:.

Just picked up Professor Layton and Brain Age 2 for $20 total. Huzzah for everyone! Times like these it does my heart happy to be part of CAG ^___^

How much are you planning to sell a USED GTA4 (PS3) for? I managed to get a copy for myself, but a friend wants one, so I was planning to buy one from you depending on price.
fucking bastard
Don't worry, he probably won't be so :D when he discovers how little the profit margin is on reselling Professor Layton and Devil May Cry 4 etc.

Still, those used GTA IVs have probably been there since December, and if they didn't move during the B1G1, then they're probably fair game for hoarding at this point...but again, not a lot of profit to be made there, unless you have built up cheap BB credit.

Or how about you sell them to people who actually want it at cost + shipping + a little extra?

Hey, don't hate. We need an ample supply of Cabela's here... how else would you expect us to get that?

Harsh reality is that, for the most part, he'd be better off doing so because it would avoid the fees, which make your profits less than 1$ with all the nickel and dime fighting that goes on ebay/half.... the only caveat would be those used GTA4s.

I'd just let it go. Sale has been on since the begining of last weekend. If people "really really really" wanted it in the area... it would have been cleared out on day one. My area was cleaned out at the up to 50% sale... so I don't see why everybody is complaining.

Dude, seriously. Never sign anything without at least glancing it over. Who knows what you will sign one day. What if there was a section in there that said "by signing this agreement and trading in games I agree to have my significant other sold into bondage... or something".

What is this society coming to that people expect to be spoonfed everything (for obvious instance wiishopchannels) which is a crying shame actually.

And to dawman45, if you are hoarding (to resell), dont advertise it as people are going to remember your boasts/bragging and will be unwilling to help you in the future. Just like Io had reservations about posting a compiled list for this reason alone. Rather a CAG doing it than a FW or SD.
I'm having the hardest time finding Call of Duty 4 for PS3. I tried all of my surrounding stores with no luck.
i saw it at a PA blockbuster today. 2 actually, and they had a pretty weak selection of games
I MIGHT have a spare copy of Uncharted to unload as I believe my brother picked up a copy of the game today as well. We basically share all of our single player games. Damn mis-communication...

If you haven't been able to find one and have given up all hope, let me know and (assuming I'm going to be unloading it) I'll send it out for shipping+costs or work something else out if you have stuff to trade, etc.
i might take it if you have the spare. Its one im looking to buy from the sale, but havent found yet from 3 blockbusters....

I love all the people flaming the guy. He bought all this stuff 4 days after the sale began, you had plenty of time, if you didn't get it before him, stop bitching.

exactly... only 3 out of the 8 stores I dropped by had any kind of traffic over the weekend as far as games sales go according to the people at the registers. A LOT of stuff was hidden behind the registers in their shelves so I had to ask, ask, ask... Yes I went overboard but the sale started on Friday... any of you actually from my area...? sorry if I "screwed" you..

Well, the trade agreement has nothing to do with it except the part where they say they can refuse trades from you for any reason at their discretion (and without warning). How they implement any sort of "policy" is half-assed at best. Some people get banned if they dared to trade the same game just once to a different store and others can trade in piles of the same game at one store. We've been through all this before. Best bet is to keep it to one of a game per store ever.
