Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Rock Band PS3 isn't a bad deal for $54 at Blockbuster...BUT...I just picked up a copy for $35 at Target. Might want to price check their clearance before buying at Blockbuster. I just grabbed it for the extra instruments...already have the game. It was marked $70.

I was all over that Target clearance but the two copies sitting at my local store disappeared the week before they dropped to $35 (which I verified with a UPC printout). Some idiot bought them while they were still $70. Oh well... So given that I had cheap credit, the BBV price was actually lower anyway.

In any case, the days of "it was still tagged $xx.xx" (an older, higher, price) at my local Targets are long gone. They reprice everything the instant it drops. So even if the RB bundles were still around last Monday I'm sure someone would have snagged it before me.

FWIW, I saw another at a BBV I was at last night. It was prominently tagged at a very busy BBV and still sitting there - very strange. Anyway, this store had a TON of new games as I thought they would (high-traffic BBV in rich area of town). However, Heavenly Sword still eludes me and like many others I never saw Uncharted (I already have it but was looking for it for trade fodder perhaps - no big deal). Bioshock, though, has been at nearly every store. I'm thinking $20 is too much for it (even in cheap credit) so I may return it. I mean, I sitll have my $5 360 copy I've never played so what's going to make me play my $20 PS3 copy?.

But otherwise this BBV had some weird new items I never knew they had before. They must have found stuff in storage. One example: Kameo, new, for $9.99. Given that this is not a GR store I found that odd.

In any case, I did manage to snag 2 more RR and trade those in. So now I actually have my credit built back up to $50 in case they have another B1G1 (on used games) sale some time.

Also, I'll post a picture in a bit of the typical DS stock that every BBV around me has. I could not find a single TWEWY, Phantom Hourglass, or any number of other games people seem to be finding a lot of. EVen Professor Layton I haven't seen since the first day. But if you want some Imagine or Petz games, come on over!

Many people bought Professor Layton when they were trying to transfer credit during an earlier 10,20,30 thing at gamstop. Along with the pokemon mystery dungeon time/darkness. It came out to be a 1:1 transfer at the time.

Also, must keep bioshock and play it on the ps3 for trophies!!!

Yeah, I was buying the Pokemon Mystery games for that and they are still all over the place for this sale. I never used Layton for that and I don't really know of anyone else in my area doing BBV->GS stuff like that so that's not the reason. I just don't think there were too many to begin with.

Anyway, yeah, I hear you on Bioshock - but I figure I can get a cheaper used copy at some point.

I went and grabed GRID and Wall-E I said sure why not on Wall-E I can use the gamer points...really happy to find a GRID though

In Woodbridge VA they have a lot of everything except Grid

Guys, I was told today that the New Socom was Software only for 34.99. Anyone else run into this? Also, has anyone either:

1. Checked the used Uncharted Price or
2. Checked Rock Revolution 360 TIV?

I got limited cooperation during my run today so I couldn't get answers to either of these questions.

Didn't see it listed in the OP, but Spider-Man: Friend or Foe (360) and Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise were $9.99 and $19.99 respectively at my BBV. VP:TiP was tagged for $14.99 but rang up for $19.99 for me.

Same here, but they honored the marked price.

USED prices are still higher I believe....employees said they were not dropping

SOCOM for $35 included the headset....I picked it up.

Went to two BB and got Millionheir Mystery Case Files for my girl. The guy told me they are putting out games every week for the sale....made it sound like they have some in the back and not putting it out all at once.

This is how I feel. I agree. I feel the same way about
iconwii.gif
Wario Land Shake It. Looks like I will like both of them, but the backlog is to big to justify for $20 when it will be cheaper used at some point.

io, are you liking Oblivion? I started a day or two ago and think it's pretty cool so far. (Unfortunately, hard to find time to play with wife and kids...) Also, have you found
iconps3.gif
Assassin's Creed? I can't find that one anywhere.
io, are you liking Oblivion? I started a day or two ago and think it's pretty cool so far. (Unfortunately, hard to find time to play with wife and kids...)
Well, I started on, what, Friday? I'm already 25 hours in ;). So, yeah, I like it. I knew I would, I just could never get started knowing it would be a huge time sink. I have many other games like that still waiting for me (given that I prefer RPGs). I could knock out 8-10 regular games in the time I'll spend on this but I'll probably enjoy Oblivion more than those 8-10 other games combined... The discounted DLC finally gave me the push to try it out. I keep buying discounted DLC and then not playing it (like the Mass Effect stuff) so my cheapness clashed with my backlog and finally won out - figured I was going to get my money's worth from those downloads!

I'm trying to complete the guild quests but whenever I just randomly come upon another quest I can't turn it down - so it's been slow going.

(Note that this is tangentially related to BBV since I bought the 360 GotY edition from GS for $18 back when BBV gave $35 for it, installed the expansions on my HD, then traded the game to BBV. Then I picked up a mint used collector's edition, still with coin, at GS for playing. Throw in the half-price DLC a few weeks back and this is a LOT of game for the money I spent ;)).

Anyway, back on topic. ryne - that's a pretty stupid thing for that store to do (hold stuff in the back to put out later). This is a clearance after all. But it could simply be a csse of lazy retagging - they pulled it all to retag and haven't gotten around to doing that for everything. I ran into a case of that last night. The guy then tried to find the list so he could show me what else they had but couldn't find it. It was late so I just gave up on that store - who knows what I missed. But it's pretty stupid of them not to have everything out.

I have an extra copy for trade. Mainly picked it up as it has been staring at me all during the clearance and no one grabbed it. Thought maybe another CAG would want it.

EDIT -
Also, I saw TONS of SSBB and SMG out today. If anyone is in the L.A. area and needs them, let me know. Or if you are a far away CAG who cannot locate them, I'd be happy to grab them for trade.

Amazon.com has :ps3: condemned 2 for 12.99, which is cheaper than BBV. Also has :360: for 14.97.

I saw the reviews on :ps3: Guitar Hero Aerosmith and makes me want to return it for Guitar Hero 3 instead. I saw :ps3: Pure which I am rather leaning towards as well. I am on the lookout for Heavenly Sword and Elder Scrolls Oblivion GOTY edition within 20 miles of Norco or Anaheim. Thanks for the lookout.

It was the one on Aborn. Sorry but I didnt see anymore copies, think I picked up the last one.

I can get Lair and Dead Space PS3 if someone is interested. I could as of recently. Have to go back and check of course.

I want the new, new games to get some markdowns!!!

What location did you see :ps3: Dead Space at? My friend has been driving around looking for that one. Thanks.

Just so those of you with nicely stocked GR stores know what the rest of us have to deal with, here's a typical shot of the DS selection at most regular stores. I took this last night, but it wouldn't have been much different on day one either:

PM'd you the location. Also, I picked up Bioshock PS3 there and it was not on the shelf. So, I don't know what else they may have back there. I know they don't have Folklore, which is about the last thing on my list.

I was able to find Bioshock I wanted it new partially because I wanted it really bad, twenty is good price and I wanted the cool slipcover. I could not find UT3 new, I settled on a used copy for 14.99.

Thank you to the OP because I totally lucked out today at 2 BBVs! I found...

Professor Layton $9.99 (new/sealed)
Zelda and the Phantom Hourglass $9.99 (new/sealed)
The World Ends With You (used but in like new condition) for $14.99

I am completely stoked right now because I have been looking for these games for such a long time. I might try another BBV around here to find any other new copies of TWEWY.

I scored a game I originally paid $89.99 last April for for $29.99 today at one of three Blockbuster stores I checked.

The game: A SEALED copy of GTA IV Special Edition for the PS3.

You just can't go wrong for $31.79 after tax.

Unfortunately, one of three stores I checked had the display only box for Saints Row 2, but they didn't have ANY copies of it IN STOCK.

Oh and for anyone NOT finding Folklore during this sale(it's like $15, right?), try Sears as I saw a copy on the clearance shelf today which was marked and rang up as $14.97.

Thanks for that tip. I was at a Sears today and saw NO PS3 games. I'll check another Sears in the near future.

That actually looks better than the DS section at my local Game Rush Store.

Seconded. While my local GameRush now carries more than DS and Wii games, their DS section remains the same: Hannah Montana and about 6 other titles that are all Disney tween stuff or the Petz series.

You're welcome. I noticed that my one close Sears has a little stockroom right in the middle of the TV section, so ask them if they keep any games in the back. If they just blurt out 'they're all out there'(like so many employees do when I go to my local Sears stores), ask someone else perhaps higher up.

The one Kmart by me had their cases overflowing with games at one point, then the one day they went down to a single row of games in each section.

My one friend who came in from out of town sweet talked the one cashier and she brought out a rolling cart loaded to overflowing with older games they stuffed in the back.

Had to head into the office today, so I stopped by a few new blockbusters in Lake Forest, CA and a few of the ones I've been to in Irvine, CA. The ones in Lake Forest had pretty good collections of Wii and PS3 games left. Saw a bunch of SMG, Mario Strikers, and Mario Sluggers for the Wii and a couple of Bioshocks, GTA IV, COD4, and Assassin's Creed for the PS3. The ones in Irvine had a couple of good games left. I managed to trade in 2 copies of RR and picked up the last GH III w/ guitar for 360 at the BBV on Alton & Culver in Irvine.

Well, I guess I should go by my Gamerush store and have a look. I called about TWEWY but they didnt have it. If anyone can trade that one to me, new, Ill have a look for something at GR for you. Just put in a request. I know for sure I can get R&C, and Uncharted (unless they sold out in the last two days, which I doubt).

Well, it is pretty much all Imagine, Petz, High School Musical - just lots of it ;).

But that was directed at those finding FF XII RW, Meteos, Advance Wars, Phoenix Wright, Pokemon Diamond, etc... (Like Rictor).

I may hit up one far-flung store tonight if my son lets me after we go to Guitar Center (I'm already going to two GS stores and he has a low tolerance for my gaming runs - gotta be one of the few kids in the country who hates going to game places ).

Picked up:

:360:
Blue Dragon

:wii:
Boom Blox
De Blob
Mario Strikers Charged

:ps3:
Rachet and Clank Tools of Destruction

Saw: tons of MGS4 and pretty much nothing else worth picking up.

Don't forget that if you're also having problems finding Heavenly Sword at BBV during the clearance, it's also on clearance @ Sears for $19.97.

One of my local Sears had 2-3 copies of it in stock, as well as numerous copies of Civ Rev for PS3.

Since I only buy games for the PS3, I only really checked them. But if anyone does want a copy of either let me know and I can figure out shipping+tax+cost and maybe I can hook some people up.
