Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

The games aren't still around where I'm at :p 20 minute drive to find the last copy of Uncharted. R&C seemed aplenty. The store had two copies... Never found Folklore though. Also, it's annoying calling a rental place to see if they have a game in stock. I ask if they have a new copy, they say yes, and I confirm the price, and they say "What? It's a rental." That's the only bad thing about Blockbuster...

Heads up:
For those of you, like me, who picked up :ps3: PURE for 24.99, if you didnt open it yet, Bestbuy has a sale that has it for 9.99. I am contemplating a return to BBV if I can get it at Bestbuy first.

I picked up R&C and Bioshock yesterday. I'm going out to try and find Assassin Creed for the PS3 today. Anybody see Assassin Creed at any blockbuster?

Yeah! I got it for $9.99 at a Gamerush store in Asheville, NC

What the fuck got up your ass? I posted just TWO posts to see if the guy saw anything around my area. It's still related to the thread right? About the BBV clearance. All you got to do is ignore my posts.

Anyways, came back from the closest BBV from me, sales still on but they said they might send the remaining games anytime this week.

There were copies of :
iconps3.gif
Saint's Row 2
iconps3.gif
GRiD
iconps3.gif
Pure
iconwii.gif
House of the Dead 2&3

left at the BBV on Katella&Euclid in the OC, if anyone's interested.

No PS3 Assassin Creed here. Anybody willing to pick one up for me? I'm willing to paypal $18 shipped if anybody is willing. I would also like a non-greatest hits version if possible.

FYI for SJ CAGs, the location on Stevens Creek/Lawrence is shutting down next month according to the rep. They're not taking any more trades.

Also for you looking for Prof. Layton, there's one left there, $10.

Well went on my last BB run for now and here are the results:

Bioshock (PS3) ** finally --
Fallout 3:CE (PS3) always was tempted by this and for less then the barebones copy why not.

was pissed, called a blockbuster last night and asked if they had fallout, lady who answered the phone said they have one used copy left for $14.99.

I did not believe her so I repeated the price to her and she said yeah, 14.99.

I went to the store, looked around for a while and didn't find it.
Finally found their used copy and took it to the register, told me it was 44.99, not 14....

wtf, at least i picked up a 360 GTA4 (used) for 14.99... better than nothing I guess

I can now CONFIRM that this IS the FINAL DAY. There was a big sign up at the Mt. Pocono(PA) store earlier today.

They had 3 copies of the GTA IV SE(2 for PS3, 1 for 360). I grabbed the two PS3 versions and left behind the 360 version, so if anyone is close and wants the 360 version, get there tonight.

What's the price on the Fallout 3 Special Edition? I saw a few people mention it, but I think it was only $50 and not that phenomenal of a % off when I asked for a price check.
anyone know BBV's return policy for used games, more specifically the clearcase 9.99 games?

my copy of viking isnt working.
If they have the same item in stock, they'll do an even swap. Otherwise, it's a STORE CREDIT for the purchase price that's put on your account.

I was so glad to hear about BB's deal here I was finally able to snag Rockband bundle plus picked up Rockband 2 for cheap as well and just exported all the songs. Pretty sweet deal really

its $40 which is a steal IMHO

Artesia/western BBV
Just picked up grid (x360) for $20. Originally a coverted rental but asked to swap for a case and manual version marked 35$.

Saw okami wii for $15 plus a couple of grid. also battlefield BC and fallout 3s for +20$

You have 30 days with receipt if its defective. Otherwise if you just dont want the game, it is the manager's discretion to refund store credit or deny outright.

Dam should have picked up FarCry 2 and Heavenly Sword. Why must I be so cheap?Maybe theyll have new games put out but who knows.
i bought the ps3 Fallout CE on Friday for $39.99. Did they drop it $10 since then?
Mine was $39.99 as well today so maybe yours was mis-tagged for $29.99

I haven't opened my Fallout 3 CE yet. Is the game inside sealed and have a barcode? I'm wondering if I could exchange it for a 360 version to play the DLC. None of my BBVs have the 360 Fallout CE.

Saw signs out at my local BBV that stated that this was the last day of the clearance sale on video games. They also had a list conveniently stapled to their aisles showing the games, qty and their pricing.

only blockbuster could completely fail to understand how to run a CLEARANCE sale.

an end date on a Clearance... unless they send the games back then this is just stupid.

If the sale is ending today around here, you wouldn't notice. Found a few gold mines in the five stores I hit today, but I'm only looking for a few things and haven't had much chance before today.

Didn't see this mentioned, but I haven't been keeping up as well as usual:
:ds: Civilization Revolution - $9.99

Really need to sit down and scour the thread to see what flips are viable, since one store easily had dozens of different titles.

I could not resist and had to open it to check out the stuff.... Really like the artbook.. but anyways yes the game inside is sealed and yes it has a barcode and does not say anything like not for re-sell or anything like some bundles do;...The Game that is in the CE version is Basically the same case and everything that comes in the stand alone version.

I don't know about the sale ending today since I didn't see any signs, but most of the Blockbusters I went to had a great selection of these discount games. I didn't see Uncharted or Folklore unfortunately, but I did pick up Mario Super Sluggers and Professor Layton. I don't need more games clogging up my backlog so I didn't bother getting anything else, but the way I figure it, if the sale ends, it ends. If not, next time I'll go to Blockbuster I might pick up a few more games. Hell, I found a BBV still selling those $10 no cover no manual games.

Pretty awesome day today. After months, I went to Blockbuster only to look for Ratchet and Clank but ended up getting the following:

UT3 :ps3: - $10
Folklore :ps3: - $10
Ratchet and Clank :ps3: - $20
God of War :psp: - $15
Secret Agent Clank :psp: - $15

Also saw Crisis Core for $15 but already have that one. It was pretty strange to pay with real money and I even ended up accidentally hitting Gift Card while paying with a Credit Card but it was fun getting a good deal from BBV once again. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread.

Thx. I might try to exchange for the 360 version.

Snagged Lost Planet: Colonies, Pure, and Mario Super Sluggers. Not too shabby. Here's to hoping the sale lasts longer than the weekend..

Well crap I have been too busy to get in there and now its over...

Well i will see if I can check a store or two on Monday and see if they stuck to their guns.

I'm in the same boat. I have the ps3 CE and the 360 regular version. I want the DLC, but i haven't owned a lunch box since i was a kid.

I went to 2 stores Sunday evening and at both they said they did have to send the games back but they didn't have a date to do so yet, so it probably wouldn't be tomorrow. The manager of my local store said if they find out tomorrow they need to send them somewhere she will do it as late as possible as it makes no sense to her either ;).

In any case, there's a good chance you'll still find stuff Monday, anyway.

I traded another Singstar Abba to take all of $2 off my purchase today. But horror of horrors, after going through that $12 and the $2.80 I had left over on my Value Card, I actually used a credit card for the first time since Jan. 2005 at a Blockbuster... My how times have changed...

And still it was so hard to see the awesome selection at the second store I went to that will end up going to waste: Bioshock, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Grid, Lego Batman, etc... All (supposedly) disappearing when it could have hung around and gone through another drop .

I know how you feel IO about using real money to buy stuff at BBV. I had to dig into my wallet for my credit card to buy a game yesterday. It hurt too much not having any BBV value card credits.

Does this also mean that BBV might possibly be doing away with its Trade In program and games altogether and going back to only videos and overpriced snack foods?

The flipping certainly did not help their gaming margins. Not saying I'm not guilty of that, I've flipped a few games to them.

all of the pre-pack games. (clear case games) have dropped in price to $6.99. the stores that did get them probably have a few left so with the wii promo at GS might be a good way to build up some credit.

i will mention this cuz someone will ask this is NOT a ymmv. all bbv that have them the price will be $6.99. most places probably didnt get to it today as there were a lot of other projects so just ask them to scan it and it will show $6.99. just make sure the label says pre-pack on the little white label.

as far as sending the new games back. i have not seen any communication about this at all so although it might be happening it doesnt appear to happening this week because all of the transfers for the week appear on saturday and there was nothing about sending them back. once in a while we get a communcation during the week but not very often.
most likely not.
of course not lol.

well thanks for the info anyways, there were a few there that I wouldn't pay 9.99 for but 6.99 sounds like a good deal.

I haven't been in this thread in awhile but after seeing the big new sale details I swung by one of my local stores and ALMOST bought:

Heavenly Sword $14.99
Wario Land Shake It $19.99

I had them in my hand and walked around with them but ultimately put them back as i'm got alot of other unplayed stuff already and both are rather short I think... I'm kinda wishing now i'd bought them and added them to my gaming shelf though. :) Maybe i'll be back at Blockbuster today...
