Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I feel bad for you guys having trouble, I've found quite a few well stocked bbv's. I finally found Assassin's Creed, but it was apart from the regular clearance and marked 20.99. It rang up 14.99 or something, so I picked it up anyway.

I never took part in BBV stuff until today of all days. Saw a :ps3: Rock Revolution at target for $10, rang up as $5, flipped for $19. And there was nothing to spend that on at the store I was at... shoulda went to the other store as it seems clearances are just ending today! Well I'll see about tomorrow I guess...
Tried to get Folklore, but they had 1 used copy for $20, I asked if it was $10 and she said it was only new copies wtf.
Yeah.. most BBVs around me got used copies of Folklore but haven't seen any new copies. About 3 stores had it marked $19.99 for used, but one store had it marked for $14.99. Might just get that used one if I can't find any new copies tomorrow... :bomb:
I haven't been in this thread in awhile but after seeing the big new sale details I swung by one of my local stores and ALMOST bought:

Heavenly Sword $14.99
Wario Land Shake It $19.99

I had them in my hand and walked around with them but ultimately put them back as i'm got alot of other unplayed stuff already and both are rather short I think... I'm kinda wishing now i'd bought them and added them to my gaming shelf though. :) Maybe i'll be back at Blockbuster today...
*Shakes head* Heavenly Sword for $15 is such a deal... even if you have 293402304930 games to play, that for $15 is worth it..
all of the pre-pack games. (clear case games) have dropped in price to $6.99. the stores that did get them probably have a few left so with the wii promo at GS might be a good way to build up some credit.

i will mention this cuz someone will ask this is NOT a ymmv. all bbv that have them the price will be $6.99. most places probably didnt get to it today as there were a lot of other projects so just ask them to scan it and it will show $6.99. just make sure the label says pre-pack on the little white label.
I was going to post about this but forgot. My local store still has a pre-pack Table Tennis for Wii and it was marked $6.99 when I was in there today. So, anyway, there's come confirmation not that it needed any and not that it matters much (I can't imagine there's too many of those out there at this point).
What are pre-pack or clear case games, exactly?
Around President's Day many stores got shipments of disc-only used games in clear cases. All the 360 and Wii games (there were none for PS3) had a sticker that said something like "PREPACK POG W/O COVER ART" and they all rang up $9.99 regardless of the game. While they appeared to be mint, it seems they were actually refurbished ex-rental games. However, they have an excellent refurb machine or process that puts Gamestop's to shame as the discs look mint unless you examine them really closely.

Everyone bought up CoD4, Mario Galaxy, etc as soon as they hit the stores, but many of the lesser titles (especailly those that were no cheaper than their regular used games) have sat around since then. I know of one store with several 360 games left over from that sale - stuff like Earth Defense Force (which was actually more expensive disc-only than it was complete!).
Just picked up two titles at my local one. Add these to the list.

:ds: Contra 4 $9.99
:ps2: Soul Nomad & the World Eaters $14.99
tried finding soul nomad for the longest time, but doesn't seem to be finding it-anybody seen this title in stores around them and want to pick it up for me-you'll be compensated of course.

Oh sure, you were totally oblivious to this sale and walk into a random BBV and find one of the games I wanted from this deal, while I've been to 5-7 of my local ones and I found everything BUT that game(SR 2).:bomb::bomb:

Picked up Collectors edition of SR2 for $25 at Best Buy in Brookfield, WI

For everyone looking for Saints Row 2, the PS3 version dropped along with Dead Space to $29.99 (not a clearance) at Target...just as an FYI.

That may be extreme YMMV seeing the site still has SR2 at $49.99 so its either just your store or the site has not been updated.

Could be. Just thought since it wasn't a clearance that it might be nationwide.

Picked up Mario Super Sluggers for $20. The clearance was still going on at the two BBVs I visited today and there were no signs warning of an impending ending to the sale.

I started to get kind of excited about this, as a few of my local stores have a bunch of these games left. But then I remembered just days after President's Day, they all took off the 'w/o cover art' tags and re-priced them to whatever their normal used prices were. Oh well, I'll probably take a look anyway.

The Monaca, PA store still had some games today. PS3 - Gran Turismo 5, GTA4, Dark Sector, Army of Two, Resistance 2, Ratchet & Clank are the ones I can remember. Looked like a decent selection of 360 games too, but didn't pay too much attention since I don't own a 360. The manager did say they were shipping the games out this week, so grab it before it's gone.

I've seen clear disc used games at BBV that were not part of that deal. Is the only difference between there regular used games and the prepack $9.99/$6.99 that "PREPACK POG W/ COVER ART" sticker?

That's the main difference I've noticed, and I've only seen "prepack" games in a distinctive blurry plastic that made it tougher to read the disc through the case.

Finally scored a cheap ass copy of Pure (360) there yesterday (Thanks to Rock Revolution!) They also had SSB for $25 and Ratchet for $20. I don't recall too many other deals there, but they did have a decent amount of games. I'm pretty sure Bioshock PS3 was there as well.

Yes, both of these are the distinguishing characteristics (the POG sticker and the blurry clear case). I've never seen them use those cases for "regular" disc-only used games (which would be priced at regular used price).

Damn, I must have just missed on Bioshock Ps3 - it was gone today. Did manage to snag the last MGS4 though.

Picked up the collectors edition of Fallout 3 (ps3) for $40 at the Painsville, OH Blockbuster. It was behind the counter with the rest of the collectors edition sets (Saints Row 2, GTA IV) so if you want one of those it might pay to ask the associate.

I can confirm that the POG games are $6.99 and also there is a new sign up for the new clearance games for 75% off instead of 50%. Clerk said new games went down in price but I didn't notice much since the BBV I went had a poor selection left.
FYI, my dad just picked up COD4 for PS3 for 25.00 new. YMMV as always.
Thanks, but it's not YMMV. That's the price at all non-franchise BBVs and it's in the OP.

I think CoD4 is listed on the list in the OP for $24.99. It's one of those games thats hard to find new, but if your BBV has it, it should be same price.

Finally caved and bought Sonic Chronicles Dark Brotherhood for $14.99 after staring at it for the past week on the shelf. Now there really is nothing left at the BBV around me.

Seems kind of weird that we had all that talk of Sunday being the last day and now no one is confirming seeing stuff sent back?? Could still happen tomorrow I suppose but it seems awfully quiet here...

Just an FYI, Jericho on 360 is down to either $0.25 or $0.50, I can't remember which.

Socom: Combined Assault on PS2 is also $0.25

Seems kind of weird that we had all that talk of Sunday being the last day and now no one is confirming seeing stuff sent back?? Could still happen tomorrow I suppose but it seems awfully quiet here...

like i had mentioned earlier transfer information is sent to stores on saturday for stuff to get done beginning on sunday. there was no such communication this past week so this is most likely not going to happen this week. like most other stuff at bbv once a communication goes out to 1 store all the other stores get the same info. there was a memo that the clearance games were going to get sent back to the distribution center but it didnt specify when so the signs people see are managers assuming it was going to be this past weekend which it wasnt.

I hope the sale keeps on going for a little while. I bought a disc only Godzilla: Save the Earth for Xbox and it doesn't work (disc is too damaged). I want my $2.99 back haha. I did get disc only copies of Ev il Dead Regeneration and Conker Live and Reloaded for $2.99 each.

Thinking of grabbing Dark Sector and DMC 4. Saw them at a Blockbuster today, but a couple of their stores really dicked around with me a week or two ago and I may have sworn off ever offering them any money again. :D

Sale is still going on here in the Renton, WA area. I went to another location and cleaned them out since, apparently, no one wanted the good stuff. They also had an offer for their exclusive RE5 photo frame with a purchase of ANY new game (had photo frames for GH: Aerosmith as well, got both). Anyway, my haul:

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune [x2]
Ratchet & Clank FTOD [x2]
Folklore [x1]
BioShock [x3]

It was pay day today. ^_^
Yeah, there's definitely stuff still around. I just bought a whole bunch today.
All my BBV are pretty much tapped out now, so I dont think they even have much to send back even if they had to.

I think i'm literally the only person who has bought anything at my local bbv. And they have a ton of stuff left over

I talked to the assistant manager at my favorite store the other night. She told me all about the big haul of $4.99 games she had picked up at the Blockbuster across town when she was working there the other day. :(
I searched north OC and south LA county and could not find a heavenly sword or ridge racer I wanted. Total bust.
I personally did not see either one of those ever in LA.
I hope the sale keeps on going for a little while. I bought a disc only Godzilla: Save the Earth for Xbox and it doesn't work (disc is too damaged). I want my $2.99 back haha. I did get disc only copies of Ev il Dead Regeneration and Conker Live and Reloaded for $2.99 each.
lolwhat? this has nothing to do with the sale, those are their normal used game prices for old-ass xbox games.
Just an FYI, Jericho on 360 is down to either $0.25 or $0.50, I can't remember which.

Socom: Combined Assault on PS2 is also $0.25
Are those TIVs or Sale Prices? I know Jericho is supposed to suck but goddamn! I bought it for $12.48 at target and haven't touched it.

Picked up a new Spiderman and the rest were 'prepack' games. Very nice flip.

First is BBV purchase price followed by GS Base TIV.

:wii:
Sonic Riders $6.99 -> $8
Ninja Reflex $6.99 -> $4
Table Tennis $6.99 -> $7
Spiderman: Friend or Foe $10 -> $10
Japakneez, by 'prepack' do you mean the disc only ones? Just want to make sure I follow you. Thanks.
I think he's talking about the clear case games, which were part of the President's Day sale.
