Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
2 stores in the OC have PS2 POG items, but nothing else. Valley View / Lampson have 125 PS2 games, and Warner / Bolsa Chica had 90 PS2 games. Nothing I'm interested in so have at.
Thanks for the update in the OC. I went to the one in Costa Mesa on Bristol just now and didn't see anything. Hit up a BBV in Irvine off Jeffrey yesterday and didn't see anythingi there either.

Checked out 2 BBVs in my area. Didn't find any 360 POGs but some PS2 games. Purchased PS2 Guitar Hero: World Tour at one BBV and flipped it at GameStop. I'm proud to say, the game is flippable. Went back to the same BBV to buy another copy and some other PS2 games from another store. I just wish there was more copies of GHWT in my area. At the end of the day, I've turned $25 into a new copy of Punch Out for the Wii. Frickin' sweet!

PS2 -Guitar Hero: World Tour - $2.99 > $15.75 :D
its not that confusing at least where i am. a few stores have some leftovers from the presidents day sale but of the 10 closes stores to me only 3 of them have leftovers. and of those 3 stores they only have 4, 5 and 8 prepacks in inventory. if a store gets any prepacks they will come in boxes of 30. so if ur store is lucky they will get 30 ps2, 30 x360 or whatever but it is always is groups of 30. so having them look up the specific part number will easily identify what 10 stores in the area got anything in.

hey this new system is actually something that helps us out so why dont we take advantage of it i know it makes things easier for me.
Well, I guess I don't want to go in there and tell them how to search for things because for sure they won't know how to do it. But if the right person is working tomorrow I guess I could try it. The store I went to tonight just appeared to have about 5 leftovers from the last sale. I called another and they said they got nothing this week either.
anyone else had there blockbusters with cod4 at 44.99$???
I think that's the normal price so what's the big deal? If you were expecting it to be $6.99 note that that would only be if it was one of these special PREPACK POG games that come in clear cases and have specific UPC codes to be sold as such. We've been over this many times before ;).

oh man this sale again. i had a hell of a time finding a store that got anything during the president's day sale, but im low on gs credit and need to flip my last $97 bbv credit to something. i start my vacation friday so hopefully i find something this time around.

Picked up Baldur's Gate DA II (xbox) and Lego Indiana Jones (PS2) at one location. Will try and check a few more stores today. I hate it when work gets in the way of video game hunting.

LOL, that does suck doesn't it?

Dammit. The only store in my area that got in GOOD POG games(meaning 360/Wii) last time hasn't got anything new in yet. Went yesterday and they still had leftovers from the President's Day sale.

:wall:

Picked up Bully an Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror for $2.99 a piece. They had gotten in a shipment of 360 and PS2 games, but someone had plucked down $90 and got all a whole bunch of the good 360 games (COD4, Halo 3, etc.) What was left was mostly the stuff that got left from the first sale (just more copies).

Why, oh, why did I not stop in on Wednesday when they got 'em....oh well.

The one near me with GR had a number of leftovers yesterday. I went back today and they had a TON of PS2 and 360 POG that were not there yesterday. Probably 75-100. Aside from what was mentioned previously they also had a few copies of Orange Box. No Halo 3. 6-10 CoD4s.

None of my stores got anything in last time but I'm hoping it will be different this time. Hopefully I can pick up some trade fodder and some games I want. Thanks to whoever provided the info.

My store had a couple of GHWT for PS2 marked at $39.99, but when I brought them to the register, they were $34.99.

No $2.99 deal for me.

I suspect you are taking a new copy to the register - the $2.99 deal is on used games, and perhaps only on the pre-packed used games with generic labels, but I haven't been to my local BBV yet to verify. Might stop in tonight.

These prices are only going to be found on the POG games. The games will be in clear cases, and will not have specific game details on them, but rather a generic label. The POG games are only sent to certain stores. You will usually have a hard time finding an employee that knows what you are talking about when asking for these. Good luck.

I asked over the phone for these, and the employee said they weren't doing it at their store. Which makes me think they are, and she's clueless.

Yeah, it's the POGs with the clear cases. There should be a $2.99 sticker on it.

Here's my haul. All GS trade in values before promo's

Metal Slug Anthology 7$
Guitar Hero 2 Rock of 80's 7$
Guitar Hero 3 5$
Star Wars BattleFront II 8$

36$ + tax turned into 102$ + 10 movie cash.

Nice !!!

Star Wars Battlefront II got you $8 + bonus? The GS thread says $5.75! Wow, I almost didn't pick it up because it was kind of iffy at that price. I really need to head in and see what other stores have anything for this sale and hope I'm not too late. I really hope the GS thread was right about FNR3 (at $7.25) as I sure as hell don't want to be stuck with a disc-only copy of that! Maybe I'll pick up that GH III they had, though, since you confirmed the rather old quote of $5 for that one (I passed because the GS thread price date on that was from March or something). I think I'll still hold off on MUA - going for 2x or more here ;).

Wow. I'm gonna go check out the Blockbuster's near me and see if I can flip a similar haul. PS3, here I come?

Well, I went back to my local store and a few of the things I left yesterday were gone (kind of surprised by that!). They had no idea about this new store lookup deal - and the manager was there and she is usually pretty on top of things. Anyway, once I told her the F4 deal she tried it and it worked. Of course she asked me how I knew that - something I usually like to avoid ;).

Anyway, just leftovers everywhere around here except for the one store I called yesterday apparently just got in 30 PS2 games today (my local store got in 30 Tues). I guess I'll stop in there. But man, am I jealous of you people with stores getting 150-200! also, no 360 stuff anywhere. The problem with the inventory locator is that it only shows for the current district. I am right on a district border and there are some good possibilites the other direction (stores that are much closer in distance to the ones she mentioned to me). I guess I'll have to call. This other district didn't get any of the POG games last time even though they have some of the bigger stores. I guess I'll try to call and go from there...

Found a few today at a store that was getting them ready to put out. I was walking out the door when I noticed two boxes (about 50 games total) behind the counter, they were nice enough to let me look through them and purchase what I wanted.

For the 360, I bought -

Bioshock
Call of Duty 4
Halo 3

For PS2, I bought -

Guitar Hero Encore Rocks the 80's
God of War
Alvin & the Chipmunks

$2.99 for the PS2 games, $6.99 for the 360 games (except Bioshock which was only $2.99, because they put the PS2 bar code on it.) I didn't notice that until I got home, or I may have actually pointed it out to them.

Anyway, both employees were super nice, and mentioned that they had picked up a few games too. So, I imagine our biggest competition for the good titles will definitely be the employees.

By the way, I noticed 3 or 4 more Call of Duty 4's in the box they let me look through...so that one may be fairly easy to find if your local store gets these, as others have reported seeing multiple copies of COD4 also.

Traded in the following PS2 games to GS; all prices base TiV -

GoW II - 7.75
SW Battlefront II - 8.00
Dynasty Warriors 5 - 4.50
Spartan Total Warrior - 6.75
GH III - 5.00

Total after bonus (30% towards movie title; would NOT let me trade in towards the batman game since the release date has slipped; and 10% edge) is 44.80 - this came from $15 spent at BBV, not too bad. There are multiple GoW II and SW Battlefront, so I may have to return to pick up some more.

Did your copy of God of War II from BBV have both discs for $2.99? I noticed a couple of copies at my local store, but both only came with Disc 1. Maybe something for people to watch out for.

All of them only came with 1 disc (presumably disc 1). Disc 2 is a bonus disc, so it shouldn't cause any problems trading in (I know it didn't for me). Now I wish I could find a place around here that has CoD 4 for the 360, I REALLY want that one! Only 1 store of 3 has any games and they're only PS2 (though they had some decent ones).

So for everyone finding these games, are they only at the same stores that got them last time round (the President's day sale), or are you seeing them at stores that didn't have anything during that sale?

I check two bbv's today one had four boxes of stuff on the counters. The employees were completely clueless as usual and refused to open the boxes until tomorrow.

I have yet to find any of these so called POGs. Not that it matters too much though since I prefer my games complete; anything I would have found would have been trade fodder.
correct, it is one part # for all of them. i believe the part # is 241392. i'm not at work now so i'm not positive but that sounds right.
I had a BBV employee try to look up the 360 games for me, and he found the number as 241932. Hope the slight adjustment helps someone, and thank you hawaiiboy for giving a heads up on it. He found there weren't any in his district that showed up. I went to another BBV that resides in a different district, but the employee said that only managers can look things up. Love that.

edit: if hawaiiboy or someone else can add the ps2 and wii numbers that would be really helpful and appreciated.

I guess we can consider this the "pro users" BBV thread and let the other one handle all the newbie questions and issues. We're already seeing a lot of confusion over there and I wish schuerm26 luck in dealing with that.

As such, these are "pro user" type questions that I think I can answer a bit:

I saw about 6 of these tonight - it is definitely the most common game from the sale at least around here. Every one of them was just disc one (well I assume it was just disc one - it is possible some are only disc 2 as I didn't check them all that carefully ;)).
So for everyone finding these games, are they only at the same stores that got them last time round (the President's day sale), or are you seeing them at stores that didn't have anything during that sale?
Surprisingly, YES, the same stores! I really didn't expect it to be that way but it appears so. However, it is an even smaller set this time. Roughly half of the stores that got games last time got any this time. Unless more stuff is coming in future shipments this is overall more disappointing that the previous sale (which is why I don't see the need to blow it up as its own thread, but whatever). For example, the only store in my entire area that got 360 AND Wii games last time got nothing this time. My local store only got Wii sutff last time and got PS2 stuff this time.

However, I discovered a few more things with the store inventory system. It does NOT appear to be limited by district. However, they are only given a small list of stores on their screen. I had 3 or 4 different clerks read me off only a handful of stores near them and they seemed unable to look for more. Also, sometimes the stores they listed were not really that close so I'm guessing it skipped stores with 0 in stock (though not sure about that). But I was in one district and they mentioned stores from another at one place). At one store they mentioned that a fairly distant store had 91 (!) of these games (under PS2 I think). Man, I would have loved to get out there but it was late and it was the wrong direction from home. I have never been to this store but according to the manager they sell a 100 used games a week there. That is a big WTF for me, but I'll take him at his word. There are no GR near me so this is a regular store and I find that surprising.

Anyways, after having a slight surge of BBV credit thanks to those Cranium Kabooki and X-Blades trade-ins, I'm now back down to zero and had to use my credit card (gasp!) for the second time ever at BBV! I'm not sure what I'll do if I come across a decent selection of 360 games from this sale (though I probably won't so no worries ;)).

I went to 8 stores in the last two days and only 2 of the 6 stores that got the POG's in on President's Day have gotten their Memorial Day games in. They all say they're expecting a shipment, but they have no idea when its going to come in.

In a bit of irony, i've seen quite a few Blockbuster employees wearing Paul Blart: Mall Cop t-shirts. The reason why this is ironic is due to the quote from Blockbuster CEO Jim Keyes

"First-quarter sales would be lackluster because in last year's first quarter, new DVD titles included hits such as "Enchanted" and "I Am Legend," while debuting releases in the current year have been "good, but not great" in comparison. Theatrical film attendance is up 14% so far in 2009, with six films surpassing the $100 million mark. These films, including "Watchmen" and "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," have pulled traffic away from Blockbuster's stores, especially on important weekend nights
Paul Blart is the reason Blockbuster is failing and Enchanted is the reason why it was "Successful" last year. Riiight.

Interesting enough, I was told last night at the 2 blockbusters near me that this sale was only going to happen at the Gamerush locations. I went to the gamerush and sure enough they had a handful of 360 titles at $6.99 -- although unless you wanted Blitz2 or Stuntman Ignition you were out of luck. Looks like fail in the Akron area.

I went to two different locations after pre-calling to determine availability. The first location had a poor selection of PS2 games that was either already picked over, or just the bottom of the barrel. The second location had X360 games and more PS2 games, but still nothing solid for flipping potential.

I think I give up on BBV in Phoenix, because I haven't had anything successful in 6 months now. Either there is another flipper/CAG in my area, or we just don't get the selection that others do. I always end up a little late to the party too, a day or two after the discovery, so maybe someone else is just beating me to the punch.

Thats actually not true, I picked up some games last night from a non gamerush store. But it does seem like the stores that got games last time, also got games this time, and they do seem to be the nicer/busier stores. I left some GOW 2 at the store @ magnolia / atlanta last night if anyone is interested, Katella / Euclid also have some stock, so that makes 4 stores in the OC so far.

hit 2 westside cleveland area gamerushes (on lorain) and one said that they got in 12 games for the sale and the other didn't receive any. of the 12 games at the one i saw at least 6 copies of PGR 3&4. So far in NE ohio this doesn't seem like a good sale.

Went to one BBV that always have the games I want earlier today. When I got there, I was quite disappointed. The place has been closed down. Didn't want my trip going there to be waste of time. Decided to have my lunch at McDonalds which is next door to the abandoned BBV. So if any of you North NJ CAGs plan on hitting up the BBV in Oakridge. That place is closed down.

I know I'm exposing my newbness here, but GS will take games without the manual or artwork?? Will they give you the same trade-in value as if they had it?

I stopped at the Newport, KY location & they had 3 BINs that were well stocked-- 2 were full of PS2 games & the other was full of 360 games.

Yes they will take them w/o cover art and manual. YMMV on whether they give you less. Some stores may charge "refurb" fees on them. I actually chanced it and went to the store that has tried to hammer me with those in the past and they took 10 of these PS2 games without charging me fees. That was awesome as it saved me a much longer drive to another GS. The refurb fees are really only supposed to be charged when they actually have to send the games back to physically refurb them - charging them for lack of covers/manuals is pretty sleazy given that they don't provide a discount for games without those things when they sell them. I traded a few used games from the $4 HWV sale a few months back that got hit with refurb fees and I was totally fine with that as they were in pretty bad shape. Just be aware that not all GS clerks will be up front about charging the fees so just make sure to ask what you are getting for each game. They are more likely to tell you about the fees if you do that. Also, you need to be on them like a hawk to make sure they enter them as the correct game since there's no UPC to scan. For example, they told me $1.50 for Transformers because they entered it as the older game and not "Transformers The Game" which came out with the last movie. They corrected that and I got $5.75 base instead ($8.05 after promo + Edge) - big difference! They will also commonly mix up God of War/God of War II, SW Battlefront I/II, etc...

IMO, the only decent use for these PS2 games is to trade them to GS (and get something you really want). While the 360 refurbs that BBV has are pretty decent and hard to tell from new, the PS2 ones are in considerably worse condition. Most of the ones I got either had writing or other marks on the label side or had brown/white gunk caked around the center hole (presumably from the refurb machine). I may keep a FF XII (though that disc looks particularly crappy) to play just so I can keep my FF XII CE sealed. Even if they were perfect, though, I think most CAGs would prefer complete copies of these things. Heck, you could probably take your GS credit and find better versions of the same games there without too much more expense (maybe like a 2-for-1).

The Lorain BBV had good stuff. I picked up DMC4, GTA4, COD4. They had a bunch of other stuff to like Bully, Viva Pinata, and Dead Rising.
