What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

One day I tried to trade in Kane & Lynch to the same store. The store manager said they already got 6 copies and can't take them anymore. I will go to another store.
i wish. i have 3 fye's in the area, 2 of which i didnt even know existed til recently. they only allow me 1 trade of a game per day so my wife and i went to each of the stores tonight and traded them all in. she doesnt mind going if there is cash involved.

i wonder how long fye will keep these values as i'm sure they are getting flooded with these 2 titles. i'm not complaining though
If not for their prices being so MSRP-y it'd be even better to take credit, since they give 20-25% on TOP of the initial trade value they quote you without having to have a discount/loyalty card like GS.:booty:

The best trade deal they used to do was their brown bad trade special. That added about 45% in credit just for having their special brown bag with your games/dvd's/cd's in it.
One day I tried to trade in Kane & Lynch to the same store. The store manager said they already got 6 copies and can't take them anymore. I will go to another store.
Haha. Same here. My Kane and Lynch for 360 was rejected as the store has too many, ps3 version was accepted, god of war 3 rejected as the store has too many, ufc rejected as way tooo scratched. Time to go find some kane and lynch's to replace my 2 copies of ufc. I have 2 more fye's i can try out to get rid of my 4 copies of kane and lynch. I also learned that the price of singularity is about $3 less than what is listed on secondspin. Actually all the games above are $3 less than listed with the exception of kane and lynch which is $26.40 in-store as opposed to $26.50 online.
If you took credit instead of cash for those though you'd get $33 a copy for K&L2 and another game.;)
I did see a used halo 3 limited edition tin box for $4.99. Girl told me gc value was $32. damn them!

Made one last run tonight & wound up buying the following (not without a fight tho)

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (Wii) $9.99
Overlord II (360) Free

The clerk on duty (which happened to be the shift manager) told me while up at the register that the sale was only valid with 360 & PS3 titles. After talking with the store manager who repeated the same crap, the manager told the clerk to run it & see if it worked. After watching the register do its dirty work, I just stood there shaking my head about the whole thing.

Last grab. Picked up Bioshock 2 and Lost Planet 2 (PS3) for trade bait. The only games left that qualified for the sale were 4 Bioshock 2 (360,PS3), Saint's Row 2, a few crap sports titles and some random PS2 games.

A big THANK YOU to the OP, hawaiiboy, and all contributors to the thread. Thanks to you I added 16 games to my backlog. :D

Going to go trade in my two copies of K&L2 tomorrow. Hopefully the value will hold. Does FYE have any trade promos or sales on used games? First time going to FYE.
Going to go trade in my two copies of K&L2 tomorrow. Hopefully the value will hold. Does FYE have any trade promos or sales on used games? First time going to FYE.
Check the condition on those copies of K&L2 though, since most FYE's will deny them even if they have the smallest scratch.:whistle2:# Although I guess that's not 100% true anymore, since the copy of Dead Rising 2 I picked up tonight using credit has a few surface scratches.

As for trade promos, they used to do the brown bag bonus once a year. They'd give you essentially 45% more on anything in the bag. So if a game was worth $18, you'd get almost $27 for it after that.

But as I said above they give you either 20 or 25% more in credit without a need for a card like EDGE/PowerUpRewards if you decide to take credit instead of cash.:D

Went by a few stores for one last run before the sale ends tomorrow and got:

:360: Overlord 2
:360: The Club
:360: GI Joe
:ps3: Bakugan
:ps3: God of War III
:360: Bioshock 2
:ps3: White Knight Chronicles
:360: Crackdown 2

Thanks again, Hawaiiboy for everything!

:cry::bow: Goodbye once again, sweet BBV thread....If I'm ever on page 2 or 3 of the Deal threads, maybe I'll drop in and say hi (don't call me, though, I'll call you). But I will be looking for you to sashay back onto the front page in 6 months or so for a summer B1G1, or a possible prepack sale. You always know how to get us coming back for more...;)

Thanks hawaiiboy for all the updates. My BBV is horrible at updating prices so there will probably be plenty left over for next B1G1.

I was happy with

God of War III
No More Heroes 2

also, Have anyone heard a bbv cashier say," I can't sell more than 2 copys of a title to a customer" The next day I brough 6 BFBC2 and the manager ranged me up and said nothing about it. Also they will do anything to keep you for returning anything unless its defective. Even exchanges there claws come out. Hope u liked ur games cause you can't give them back, but why would you.

I believe the fine print on the signage says 2 (of the same title) per customer. I don't think they bother enforcing that too much. One cashier had it in her head it was 3, though. I wasn't buying more than 2 of anything there, anyway, but she told me it was 3 per customer so I was OK . Most of them simply don't care.
There is a store policy about 2 of the same title; however, the fine print on the B1G1 14.99 or under promotion sign clearly states 20 games per day up to 5 for the same title.

I knew it was one or the other or both. I don't know where that one clerk got the idea of it being 3 then. I guess she was just splitting the difference and rounding down ;).

Thanks to hawaiiboy for all of the up-to-date information in this excellent sale. I actually managed to pick up every game I was looking for, snagging what seemed to be the only copies of Folklore, Nier, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and No More Heroes 2 in my area.
Going to go trade in my two copies of K&L2 tomorrow. Hopefully the value will hold. Does FYE have any trade promos or sales on used games? First time going to FYE.
I posted earlier in this thread somewhere, but there is a bonus 20% coupon that your FYE can give you. It's good through the month of January, and gives you an extra 20% credit OR cash trade value. At the FYE I go to, they're sitting behind the cash register

Thank you for your help and iamthecheapestgamer as well. Are people checking FYE values by looking at wherehouse or secondspin? thought I read a post somewhere about it, but did i misread?

I don't know, but whatever you do, DO NOT TRADE TO Wherehouse.com/SecondSpin.com! I traded like 15 games to them, thought I'd be making a boatload of cash, and they rejected all of them! So ticked...

I don't understand, why did they reject the games, I've sent in a good 20 games in recent weeks without a single rejection.

Scratching.. They installed fine to my drive too. Pretty dumb if ya ask me, but it makes me think twice about sending more

Ahh, I actually went out and bought a scratch repair kit and polished all mine before I sent them in. I wouldn't dare send a game in that had more than a single scratch on it. Did they send you the games back ?

I've been asking them, but as of now they haven't told they me they were sent

As did I, though slower this time around.

It always seems to be the same gal checking them in so, I'm sure she's swamped with all the BBV/GameFly Flips. I received another payment today, so things are moving along. The only risk is that with so many GOW3's coming in, I'm sure they can get even pickier.

Yeah. I mean.. I'm not complaining about the speed, for sure... just noting it's slightly slower than normal A week/week and a half is not a problem for me given the holidays and the likelihood that these places are getting flooded. Plus, nothing is as slow as Dealtree during the SMB/Lego Indy days...

Personally, I've been paid for all but one order without a rejection... so I'm not fretting too much.

Crap, Nier for 360 was 14.99? This is what I saw after searching the thread. I passed up several stores that had it tagged for 19.99. I would have loved to have gotten it for 7.50

Okay... I thought of doing this, but everything I read said that the scratch repair kits leave even more scratches on the disc. What type did u use and how were the results?

The results are not spectacular, the scratch is still visible, just less so. I bought the repair goop sold at GS, BBV sells something similar. I think by polishing the disk and making it nice and shiny, makes the disk just looks in better condition and thus more readily accepted.

Have you not learned anything from Target clearance? Never trust the tags to be updated and ALWAYS get it scanned.;)

YMMV on your FYE accepting a printout, but each store i've been to has had them at the register and they are all on plain ordinary paper:

It's an easier way to make money than working a normal 40 hour a week job if you do it often enough and know what to look for.;)

Not a bad job for earning a little side money.

Not in the least. Although I hate that FYE only takes games at ONE store around here anymore. It used to be a fun day out going from GS/EB/BB to each FYE with 2-3 games in hand and exploiting the fact that they take forever to institute price drops and as such the values remain high for stuff for a while after.;)

What do I look for? I remember you talking about penny guides and getting a lot from those ...

FYE bytheway, got another 4 Kane and Lynch's today. I almost feel like I made more money from that game than the game's developers.

Just keep an eye out for MSRP drops, as sometimes FYE/Transworld is behind by two weeks to a month. Although sometimes they drop stuff before then, especially if they received too many.;)

Is that your primary place? I'll get stuff from goozex and send it to amazon, and obviously I'm trying secondspin (which I suspect has something to do with FYE). Gamestop seems pointless unless you use that credit in turn to sell games elsewhere. I'm also trying glyde and just sold a game there. They seem to charge too much, though. 12% plus $1.25 for the mailer, and it takes too long for this to complete (4-6 days for the mailer, 3-6 days for feedback). Dealtree, unless they bring back the $30 for Modern Warfare 2 or Super Monkey Ball is nonexistent, and Gazelle is ridiculous.

Just talking about this makes me sad this sale is over. I should have bought more at the end of the sale, since no one else was buying them where I was at. Last night I saw a bunch of God of War 3's, UFC 2010, Battlefield 2, Dante's Inferno, Crackdown 2's, 4 Mass Effect 2s (9.99 price) .... next time I'm not leaving these games for others b/c they aren't buying them anyway!@#@ The people in my area must be idiots. I would bet a ton of people bought these same games for their kids for christmas at best buy.

I live in tampa and there every where here. Every 4 blocks. I am right in the middle. 3 closed down though, that leaves 5. Also didnt no K&L2 was worth anything. Cover looked funny for a game so I just left them. There were a lot though
